President Obama will visit Indianapolis, IN on Friday, rescheduling a trip to Allison Transmission, a global provider of commercial-duty automatic transmissions and hybrid-propulsion systems, that was delayed due to budget negotiations. The White House says that the President will tour Allison's facilities before speaking to workers about the importance of slashing oil imports, while also addressing the immediate need for a cleaner and more secure energy future.

Future vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover could use a flywheel-based hybrid powertrain now that the automaker is reportedly working with British transmission specialist Torotrak, the same company that helped develop the KERS hybrid system that's currently being tested in Formula 1 racing. General Motors announced earlier this morning that it has agreed to sell Allison Transmission to two private equity firms. The Carlyle Group and Onex Corp. will purchase both the commercial and military ends of Allison, all for the bargain price of $5.6 billion.
