<br />The Alfa MiTo will finally get the punch to match its 8C Competizione styling when Alfa Romeo unveils the highly anticipated MiTo GTA at the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March. And the guys over at MINI's John Cooper Works had better pay attention.<br /><br />According to emerging reports, the MiTo GTA will offer more power for less cash, deriving 240 horsepower - 31 more than the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/24/first-drive-2008-mini-cooper-s-jcw/">JCW</a> and 90 more than the current strongest MiTo - from its 1.8-liter turbocharged four, with a sticker price some &pound;2000 less than the JCW. The MiTo GTA will also retain Alfa's trick Q2 electronic differential to get the power down to the ground, while benefiting from more aggressive styling touches including sharpened lines, blistered wheel arches to house the bigger rims and possible some two-tone color options for a racier look. Sources also suggest Alfa could cut weight down by using aluminum and carbon fiber body panels. The deal is further sweetened by the prospect, given the Fiat group's new partnership with Chrysler, that the MiTo GTA could make it Stateside, so stay tuned. In the meantime you can check out the galleries below from our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/22/north-american-exclusive-first-drive-alfa-mito/">first drive of the MiTo</a> in Italy.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/">First Drive: Alfa MiTo</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_bl-st_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_bl-st_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_bl-st_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_gt-st_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-alfa-mito/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_bl-st_15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/">Alfa MiTo - Centro Internazionale Guida Sicura</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_cr_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_cr_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_cr_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_gt_01-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/alfa-romeo-guida-sicura/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/mito_gt_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/237160/">Autocar</a> via <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090121.015/alfa-mito-gta-headed-for-geneva">WCF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/22/watch-out-john-cooper-alfa-mito-gta-to-bow-in-geneva/">Watch out, John Cooper: Alfa MiTo GTA to bow in Geneva</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 22 Jan 2009 09:28:00 EST. After the unveiling of the production <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/04/geneva-2008-alfa-romeo-8c-spider/">8C Spider</a> along with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/07/geneva-2008-updated-alfa-romeo-brera-and-spider/">updated Brera and Spider</a> came the<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/25/geneva-08-preview-alfa-also-showing-updated-159-sedan-and-wagon/"> revisions to the 159 sedan and Sportwagon</a>. <br /><br />Like its two-door counterparts, the changes to the 159 consist of a few small updates that don't interfere with the model's stunning lines. Better ergonomics and new electronics update the interior, while weight reduction where the car meets the road should help the car's driving dynamics slightly. Most importantly, however, the tweaks which Alfa Romeo announced for the 159 range gave us and our cameras another reason, as if we needed one, to get reacquainted with one of our favorite European sports sedans and wagons. <p>We here at Autoblog would like to thank Alfa Romeo for releasing updated versions of the Brera and Spider models. Not because we're that excited about the minimal updates themselves, but because it gave us another excuse to stop by the Alfa booth and gawk at this pair of stunning two-doors, whose beauty in the Alfa Romeo range is rivaled only by the luscious 8C, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/04/geneva-2008-alfa-romeo-8c-spider/">the roadster version</a> of which Alfa also unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a>. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2008-alfa-romeo-brera/686216/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/web-07alfabrera-geneva.jpg" /></a>As we brought you back in late February, the updates to the Brera and its Spider counterpart are modest, limited mostly to removing weight from the rolling stock. Modest improvements, which we'll let interested parties read about in more detail in our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/24/geneva-08-preview-alfa-romeo-debuting-updated-brera-and-spider/">preview post</a> and attached press release, but with a vehicle this breathtaking, as you can see from our images in the gallery below, we're glad Alfa kept the changes minimal in addressing some of the vehicle's dynamic shortcomings without tinkering with the styling.</p>

<p>All the big rollers came out for the game this year in Geneva, but Alfa Romeo raised the stakes yet again with the unveiling of the production version of the breathtakingly curvaceous 8C Spider. Take the term "production" with a grain of salt, though, as only 500 examples of the roadster will be built, making this one of the few chances we'll have to see and bring you this exemplary piece of exotic Italian machinery first-hand. </p>
<p>Newly-appointed CEO Luca de Meo was on hand to unveil the ivory roadster to the throngs of anxiously awaiting scribes and photogs, but that didn't stop us from shooting the 8C until our hands started to tremble. Check out our best shots in our high-resolution gallery, laid out with the thumbnails below for your viewing pleasure, along with the press release excerpt after the jump.</p>
