<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/">BMW</a> was one of the biggest corporate supporters of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/london+olympics/">2012 London Olympics</a>, earning the right to be its official car sponsor. But it wasn't just ponying up a few dozen <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/7+series/">7 Series</a> for the IOC that got it this plum gig. BMW made a commitment to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/01/bmw-unveils-armada-of-vehicles-for-london-olympics/">meet specific CO2 emissions targets </a>for the vehicles it provided.<br />
<br />
BMW supplied about 4,000 vehicles to the London Olympics organizers, everything from motorcycles to electric <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/mini/">Minis</a> to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/activehybrid+5/">hybrid 5-Series</a> sedans to diesel <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/x5/">X5</a> SUV's. Our sister site <a href="http://translogic.aolautos.com/2012/08/15/translogic-110-london-2012-bmw-olympic-fleet/">Translogic</a> went to the Olympics to get a taste of the breadth and depth of the BMW Olympic fleet.<br />

<br />
It looks like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw">BMW</a> may be spreading its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/activehybrid">ActiveHybrid</a> technology to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/3 series">3 Series</a> line in the near future. <em>Autobild</em> is reporting that a battery-laden model will debut shortly after the 2012 3 Series arrives on dealer lots early next year. The report suggests that the company's forced-induction four-cylinder will also show up behind the headlights of the 3 Series in everything but the mighty 335i. The top-of-the-line 3 will continue to boast inline six-cylinder power for the conceivable future. Meanwhile, the hybrid variant will work with a version of the company's straight-six mated to tech from the ActiveHybrid <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/7 series">7 Series</a>.<br />
<br />
That means that buyers should be able to look forward to an additional 15 horsepower from a small electric motor as well as the boost of instantaneous torque. Chances are the system will use the same 120-volt lithium-ion battery pack as the big 7 as well. Or at least it will if the report turns out to be true. Right now, <em>Autobild</em> is working off of whispers obtained from unnamed sources within the shadowy halls of BMW headquarters, so take this hybrid 3 Series rumor with a grain of salt.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/29/next-bmw-3-series-to-get-hybrid-option/">Next BMW 3-Series to get hybrid option?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 11:01:00 EST. <br />
According to BimmerFile, if you're on of the tens of people looking for the Ultimately Confused Driving Machine, you should act fast to pick one up at your local dealership. The 480-horsepower, 575 pound-feet-of-torque-producing mutant <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/first-drive-2010-bmw-x6-activehybrid-is-technologically-impress/">X6 Active Hybrid</a> has reached the end of its confused life. The hybrid wagon is certainly powerful, but it's also heavy. In fact, it weighs 400 pounds more than the non-hybrid X6.<br />
<br />
Anyone who opted for the BMW X6 Active Hybrid couldn't claim they wanted a more efficient ride. The hybrid version is barely more efficient around town when compared to both the non-hybrid six-cylinder and V8 versions. So could the Active Hybrid owner claim they wanted the extra performance? Nope. The X6 Active Hybrid starts at $89,775, which puts it a hair ahead of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/10/first-drive-2010-bmw-x6-m-bimmer-builds-a-highrider-gt-r/">the 555-horsepower X6M</a>.<br />
<br />
There will be no weeping over the loss of this awkward attempt at sporty efficiency.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/19/bmw-x6-active-hybrid-cancelled-with-a-quickness/">BMW X6 Active Hybrid cancelled with a quickness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 18:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>BMW M7? - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />It seems like every 12 months rumors of an M variant of the BMW 7 Series surface, and this year things are no different. A decidedly aggressive looking 7 Series mule was caught testing in Germany with a slight power bulge tacked onto the hood and a new fascia sporting a set of gaping air intakes and a sculpted splitter. Peer passed the twin-kidney grille and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/2051860/">you'll discover what appears to be a front-mount intercooler</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6-m-and-x5-m/1470403/">similar to the unit</a> fitted on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/04/new-york-preview-bmw-x6-and-x5-get-the/">X5M and X6M</a>, and that could mean this 7er is packing the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, putting out 555 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. <br /><br />Although the wheels and brakes appear to be upgraded, the traditional quad exhaust found on all modern M cars <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/2051866/">is missing</a> - something that even the M-fettled SAVs had when they were undergoing testing. That small point has KGP considering the possibility that the prototype is actually packing BMW's Active Hybrid system, which is due to arrive early next year. Either way, there's a good chance BMW will unveil whatever 7 Series is up its sleeve at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> this September.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid">Spy Shots: BMW M7? 7 Series Hybrid?</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01-bmw-m7-hybrid-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02-bmw-m7-hybrid-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03-bmw-m7-hybrid-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04-bmw-m7-hybrid-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m7-7-series-hybrid/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05-bmw-m7-hybrid-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/02/spy-shots-bmw-m7-prototype-or-7-series-hybrid/">Spy Shots: BMW M7 prototype or 7 Series hybrid?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 02 Jun 2009 14:57:00 EST.
