What would a new toy be without tons of new toys to accessorize it with? That's the question Mopar asked about the 2013 SRT Viper, and they answered it with more than 50 Mopar add-ons to go over, in and under the 640-horsepower coupe. The straightforward and inexpensive includes the $158 black leather shift knob, $205 door sill guards and $325 fleece-lined car cover in a choice of three colors.

Things hot up with the cat-back exhaust for $668, the $880 carbon fiber engine cover that can be tastefully paired with the exposed carbon fiber brace at $3,175, or the StopTech brake rotors that will run you $1,445 at each axle. Top-dog fettling happens with racing exhaust that mimics a straight pipe for $1,005, the 5-into-1 headers for $3,495 and six-point harness that hasn't been priced.

Get details on those and more in the press release below, and check out the visuals in the SEMA gallery above.
Continue reading 2013 SRT Viper with Mopar accessories shines at SEMA

2013 SRT Viper with Mopar accessories shines at SEMA originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 31 Oct 2012 11:29:00 EST.
We haven't stopped swooning over the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins and their corner-carving magic. For those overseas who enjoy the rear-drive coupe under the Toyota name as the GT86, things just got a little corner-carve-ier. This GT86 TRD is everyone's favorite rear-drive, boxer-engined Toyota, albeit fitted with a full selection of Toyota Racing Development parts.

The GT86 TRD gets a more aggressive air dam, side skirts, rear diffuser and a trunk lid spoiler. There are also stainless steel rear diffusers and buyers can choose from two different sets of 18-inch TRD aluminum wheels.

Inside the cabin, the driver is rewarded with a center console-mounted pushbutton start and new leather-wrapped shift knob, but things get more interesting under the skin. The TRD version features added stabilizers and an adjustable shock absorber and spring set. Other TRD kit includes front and rear monoblock brake calipers, upgraded brake lines and a high response muffler.

Of particular note is the TRD Door Stabilizer. It employs a spacer that automatically fills the strike gap in the door when closed, which Toyota says improves torsional rigidity. This feature is claimed to be an industry first, and we're curious to know if it provides a noticeable improvement in stiffness.

The GT86 TRD showcar is fully packed with all this gear, but it's also being used to promote the TRD performance line, which allows GT86 buyers to pick up any of these parts individually throughout Europe. Given the accessory-happy lineup currently over at Scion, it'll be interesting to see if the full catalog of TRD performance line parts makes its way into the FR-S brochure. For now, check out our photos of the more aggressive GT86.
Continue reading Toyota GT86 TRD boasts added performance gear, industry-first door stabilizer

Toyota GT86 TRD boasts added performance gear, industry-first door stabilizer originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 11:31:00 EST.
When using or wearing branded gear is cause to ask yourself, "Um, too much?" the answer is usually a resounding "Yes." If you're incapable of responding to this question honestly, then Porsche Design has created a new suite of accessories for you. The Colors of 1968 collection celebrates the available hues of the 911 at the close of the sixties: Tangerine, Polo Red, Irish Green and Ossi Blue.

In addition to the predictable $60 t-shirts and a themed messenger bag (above), you can also snap up future dust-collectors like the Porsche Design "Speedminton" set.

Described as a mix of badminton, squash and tennis, Speedminton still boils down to the genteel art of whacking birdies at an opponent, something we're sure you'll be instantly remarkable at with your black carbon-composite rackets and candy-corn-colored shuttlecocks.

Also available are new additions to the Porsche Design Driver's Selection Martini Racing collection-inhale-which should elevate the golf-course parking lot rivalry between you and your Ferrari-jacket-wearing counterparts to Bloods vs. Crips intensity. More details about the latest Porsche Design swag can be found below.
Continue reading You can now buy your very own Porsche Design Shuttlecock

You can now buy your very own Porsche Design Shuttlecock originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 23 Jun 2012 17:04:00 EST.
The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and that means that a volley of stars-and-stripes themed consumer goods are locked, loaded and headed for your nearest big-box store. But while your neighbors will likely have more red, white and blue napkins, balloons, paper plates and leisurewear than you can shake an unread copy of the Constitution at, odds are they won't have one of these on their motor home. Behold the Glorystache, a giant creeper mustache soaked in America and trimmed in red fringe. It almost brings tears to our eyes.

The Glorystache's creators are more than a little tongue-in-cheek about their invention. Carstache, the Glorystache's San Francisco-based inventor, proudly says that the patriotic automotive facial hair has been inducted into the Absurd Automotive Accessory Hall of fame alongside classics like fake bullet holes and spinner rims.

The company's site even features an image of honest Abe Lincoln brandishing a Glorystache in one hand and an AR-15 in the other while riding a Grizzly Bear. We're certain the image isn't altered in any way. Head over to the Carstache website for more information.
Carstache proudly presents the Glorystache originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 25 Jun 2011 15:48:00 EST. For those of you that roll like this - and we know you're out there, so stand up - Motionlite retractable lighting provides another way for you to accessorize your alloys. Wheel illumination is exactly what it sounds like: an LED mounted on a power telescoping six-inch arm in the wheel well throws photons in seven different colors on your rims. The system is remote-controlled and universal, so it'll work anywhere, anytime. All you need is $499 to make it yours.

When BMW debuted the X6 M last year, we were initially a bit skeptical about how the porky crossover (still having a hard time calling it a Sports Activity Coupe) would be received by enthusiasts. However, after a good deal of seat time, we learned that while the X6 M is ridiculously unnecessary, it's a total blast to drive, especially on the track. Now, enthusiasts looking to get some of the X6 M's mystique without shelling out $89,000 can have their own unique version of the X6, thanks to new accessories from BMW Performance.

The list of optional modifications starts with two different power kits, depending on which engine the stock X6 is equipped with. xDrive35i models gain an additional 20 horsepower and 37 pound-feet, bringing the total output to 326 hp and 332 lb-ft. The xDrive50i gets a bit more oomph, with power increased to 448 hp (up by 41) and 479 lb-ft (up by 37). Keep in mind, these power figures are based on of the 2011 X6, which has slightly different powertrains from the current model. What does it all mean? Six-cylinder X6s will be able to do 0-60 runs in just 6.5 seconds, and V8 models will do it in just 5.2.

From there, BMW Performance offers an aerodynamics kit, which includes a revised front bumper, side sills and an insert for the rear bumper. Other aero options include a rear spoiler, matte black rear fins, and a black front grid. Additionally, a new set of 21-inch light-alloy wheels are available wrapped in much sticker rubber. Interior tweaks include a new flat-bottom steering wheel with alcantara coating, as well as aluminum pedals. Given that Bimmer accessories are anything but cheap, plan on writing a substantial check if you're looking to go all-out with the extra toys.

X6 owners can pick up their BMW Performance accessories through the automaker's dealer network, and all modifications are fully backed by BMW's warranty standards. For the full details, click through the jump to read the official press release.

Swiss firm Zai makes high-zoot skis. When the company teamed up with Bentley, the result was an even higher-zoot ski kit called Zai Supersports, composed of handmade skis and poles, and a ski bag.

The skis themselves feature a special carbon fiber material called "Zaiìra" on top, with a natural rubber core, chromium-steel-infused carbon fiber for the twisty bits, and Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites to round out your lust for exotic materials. The poles use the ExoGrid tech usually associated with the world of golf clubs.

There will only be 250 pairs made, and because you knew they wouldn't be cheap you won't be surprised by the $9,800 purchase price. Get all the facts in the press release after the jump, and pretty pictures in the high-res gallery below.

2010 Porsche calendars and diary -- Click above for high-res image gallery

Porsche has released info and images on its three calendars and diary that will be happy to keep you company throughout 2010. Two of them are especially focused on the Panamera, because damn it, you're going to like that car whether you like it or not...

The Driver's Perspective calendar provides images of various models, highlighting the Panamera, and comes with a collector's coin "which shows the motto and the year." The Designed 4 Ambition Calendar was hatched by the designers at the Development Centre in Weissach and is focused on "extraordinary sporting performance and individual exclusivity," taking its subject as -- you guessed it -- the Panamera. It comes with a CD-ROM that also holds a short film and a screensaver, and there will only be 4,000 made.

Finally, the One of a Kind calendar take behind-the-scenes peeks at classic cars, like the Martini Racing car pictured above, of which only one was ever built. You can find out more about the calendars and the diary in the release after the jump, and check out some of the images in the high-res gallery below.
The mechanical timepiece has a chronograph and tachometer function (to measure velocity) inspired by the Auto Unions that helped define the Audi adventure: the second hand's numerals are derived from the tach in the Auto Union Type C Grand Prix racer.

Also novel is the fact that the hour hand resides in the upper inset dial -- the large hands are the second hand and chronograph. The watch face is enamel and the crown is diagonally fluted like a gear, and the back cover is glass. The Tachoscope comes in two flavors: white gold and platinum. Thankfully, the back cover is glass so you can see where your €14,900 ($19,800 USD) has been spent if you plunked down for white gold, with the platinum edition setting you back €24,900 ($33,000 USD). Only 100 examples will be made, and you can read all about them in the press release after the jump.

[Source: Audi]
Continue reading Audi centennial timepiece celebrates 100 years on four wheels with four hands

Audi centennial timepiece celebrates 100 years on four wheels with four hands originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 28 Mar 2009 11:02:00 EST.
The folks charged with recasting perceptions of a brand aren't unlike home run hitters: a lot more misses than hits, but when they do hit it's often spectacular. This particular at-bat with Vauxhall, however, is probably a foul tip at best. The folks at the brand behind the griffin, whose logo was redesigned last year to be more dynamic and contemporary, has teamed with British shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey to create a Vauxhall Collective "luxury driving set."

Kelsey is from the Jimmy Choo/Mulberry end of the fashion spectrum, and was asked to create line that celebrated "the great British Road trip." That's what he did... if you're going on a road trip with a '70s-era Elton John or Liberace. The three pieces - steering wheel cover, studded driving gloves, and keychain - will run you £195 (US $284). If you think these are for you - and you know who you are, but we can't believe you drive a Vauxhall - there will only be a limited run of 25, so you better get ordering.

Gallery: Jonathan Kelsey Collection for Vauxhall

[Source: Vauxhall]
Continue reading Vauxhall unveils high-fashion accessories by Jonathan Kelsey

Vauxhall unveils high-fashion accessories by Jonathan Kelsey originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 08:02:00 EST.
Click above the see the full lineup of Mustang accessory wheels

Don't like the stock wheels on the new Mustang? No worries. Over at the Ford booth at this year's Detroit Auto Show, the 'Stang has its own little area dubbed "Mustang Alley" featuring a display of hoods employed through the years (pretty cool) and a "Mustang Garage" wall with the full lineup of accessory wheels available for the new pony. Ford Racing has offered a variety of wheels before, but this is something else entirely, as it seems Ford would like to redirect some of those aftermarket bucks right back into the coffers at Dearborn. Some of these are really good looking - the gold 20-inchers above look particularly great in person - and we've got the whole lineup posted in the gallery below. Well, neither have we. But that hasn't stopped Maplin Electronics from coming up with a portable, 12-volt microwave that you can operate through your cigarette lighter or hooked up directly to your car battery.

The 14-inch wide, 10-inch high stainless steel heater-upper can crank out 175W when plugged in to the cigarette lighter. When you don't have time for all that slow roasting and need to get your ham cooked quickly, connect the portable microwave to the battery -- terminals included -- and you'll get 660W of fast-cooking power. We can only hope this contraption is an answer to a question no one was asking. However, if you want to be king of the tailgating party, your crown will only cost you £69.98.

[Source: Daily Mail]
Mobile microwave takes Mhz and hot food on the go... originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Jan 2009 16:33:00 EST. If there's any automaker for which such a move fits, it is Subaru (has anyone even seen a Porsche or Mercedes mountain bike in the wild?). And it's not the first time a Japanese car concern has jumped into the bicycle biz: Bridgestone had a seriously good range of road and mountain bikes in the '80s and '90s. However, Subaru's effort will be outsourced, built-to-order, and expensive. The hardtail chromoly steel steeds will run you $3,880. For that price - even for a limited edition with decent kit - we aren't sure why anyone would opt for it over a fully-suspended Ellsworth or Ventana for the same money.

[Source: Bike Radar]
Subaru getting into bicycle business originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 24 Dec 2008 14:54:00 EST.
It appears that the current NISMO Fairlady Z S-Tune GT might have a replacement waiting in the wings when the new Z car (370Z here in North America) arrives on scene. The photo above is now making the rounds on the web, and at the very least, it indicates that NISMO will probably have accessories (like the body kit shown) ready to go for the Fairlady Z's JDM launch.

The current Fairlady Z S-Tune complete car is equipped with all manner of NISMO goodies (underhood, suspension, brakes, interior, exterior -- the works), and you can pretty much write it down that they'll do something similar with the new ride as well. It's more a matter of when than if. Anyway, we expect to hear much more in the days to come, since the 370Z's official unveiling in L.A. is just around the corner. Thanks to Chuck for the tip!

[Source: 370Z Tech]
First look at new NISMO 370Z? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 10:01:00 EST. The Azentek SmartMirror has a four-inch touchscreen on the right for a 2D and 3D text-to-speech GPS display. It's also offers Bluetooth connectivity, a call log, and caller ID. It has two video inputs, one that can be used for a rear view camera, and an SD card slot in case you want to record... well, whatever you might want to record with your rear view mirror.

The only thing missing from the mirror is availability -- it's been so popular that Azentek can't supply enough of them. The company says that will change later this year when you'll be able to get it at major retailers. The other potential hitch: it'll cost you $800 to do what your phone, TomTom, and regular mirror already do.

[Source: Engadget]
Azentek nav-equipped SmartMirror coming end of year originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 09:03:00 EST. Huzzah! Not only does the fluting on the bags echo the fluting on your Arnage's seats, but the luggage trim is done in knurled aluminum. The entire set consists of a briefcase, large and small suitcases, a washbag, and a weekend bag. You can expect to pay £4,300, before options. But then, if you're an Arnage owner, you're probably more concerned with finding out if you can get leather to match your seats. Or have all those other LP560-4 owners made it too hard for you to use the Phone Number Collecting Set? If so, STRUT could have just the right bit of jazz to put the rage back in your bull.

An 11-piece accessory kit in carbon fiber and steel includes grilles for the front, side, and rear intakes, and the engine cover and bumper vents, as well as a STRUT shield for the front of the car. According to STRUT, the accessories give the Lambo "a disctinct, personalized appearance," because pulling up to the party in a Gallardo just wasn't distinctive enough. The price of personalization: $25,000 for the basic set, $35,000 if you gotta be a baller and choose the titanium edition. And no, that doesn't include the STRUT wheels -- those are $9,000 extra.

Gallery: STRUT Gallardo Collection

[Source: STRUT]
STRUT creates jewelry for your Gallardo originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 16 Jun 2008 19:01:00 EST. If the performance of its cars doesn't kick you in the gut, the prices will likely induce at least some swooning. A better use for this barf sack - which appears to just be an inside joke to the folks at Sant'Agata - would perhaps be toting the finest of chocolates. Too bad that they're out of stock (probably forever), so even if you wanted to toss your cookies into what's undoubtedly one of the highest performance puke diddies available, it's not possible. The time honored tradition of hanging your head out the side window after a particularly hot lap in, say, the Reventon is always an option, though. We wonder if they offer napkins?

[Source: Lamborghini via Motor Trend]

April Fools already? When the production tweaks are being given to the basic car, the Accessories wizards are in there too, mocking up and trying out different creative ways to offer some pizazz at the parts counter. What we're most excited about in this video is the appearance of the new Camaro with some extra goodies. You don't get to see much, but the shroud of Auburn Hills gets pulled back just enough to show off ground effects done up in clay. The rear spoiler also appears to be different, though it's never actually shown. If customized Camaros of the past are any indication, we expect the hottest item will be the big peeing "Calvin" for the rear window and those ridiculous blackout head and taillight covers - this time, they'll be available with a GM part number, w00t! Top tippage, Tim!

[Source: 5thgen.org]

Continue reading GM making sure Camaro accessories are ready

GM making sure Camaro accessories are ready originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 09:57:00 EST.
Now you don't have to leave the lovely visage of your favorite ponycar languishing in the dark of the garage anymore. California Car Cover Company is offering shelves that pay homage to Shoebox Chevies, '59 Caddies, C3 Corvettes and '65 Mustangs, so you now have a boomeriffic place to stash various and sundry little bits that would otherwise clutter a more pedestrian shelf. Prices range from $19.99 to $79.99, far less than even a set of sparkplugs for the old clunker that's spent the last decade and a half leaking on your driveway, and we bet that it'll take less time to mount one of these to the wall than it will to get that old Quadrabog rebuilt and tuned.
