Final Pagani Zonda F Roadster delivered to Ukraine

First introduced way back in 1999, the Pagani Zonda has had a nice long run. Twelve years, to be precise. Now the Huayra - also named after a wind, like its predecessor and so many Volkswagen models (Scirocco, Passat, Bora, etc.) - is upon us. But before the Zonda speeds off into the sunset, Pagani had to finish fulfilling orders for the outgoing model.

While we can't say for sure that what you see here is the very last Zonda, we can tell you it is the last Zonda F Roadster - one of the ultimate expressions of the original, with the 600-horsepower 7.3-liter AMG V12 and an open roof.

This last of the 25 units built is decked out in purple carbon fiber and is being delivered to one very extroverted customer in Ukraine. We think we may have found where the Joker has been hiding all this time.

Wait, this is the Pagani Zonda of motorcycles?

The bike in this video is selling itself as the Pagani Zonda of motorcycles. We're a little at a loss here, because we thought the Pagani Zonda of motorcycles would be something awesome, terrifying and well made. Think Freddie Spencer edition Honda CBR1000RR, but with JATO boosters and a hand-tooled leather saddle.

Instead, we got this lump. An uninspired, V-Twin-powered slug that looks like an afterthought of the Orange County Choppers crew. Luckily for the rest of the world, only five of these things will be built. So the likelihood of one ever assaulting your eyes in person is nil. Check out the video after the jump.

Evo takes a spin in the Pagani Huayra

The crew from EVO magazine managed to talk their way into a ride in the newest piece of insanity from Pagani. The Italian automaker is currently in the midst of endurance testing the Huayra for U.S. certification, and as a result, five of the cars are currently frolicking around Europe racking up precious kilometers. Pagani recently hosted a few of the company's customers at Sardinia, and EVO's Harry Metcalfe jumped into the passenger seat of the carbon fiber creation for a quick blast down the road. Fortunately for all of us, Metcalfe taped the whole experience.

The video shows the best look yet at the vehicle's adaptive aerodynamics, complete with plenty of active flaps that pop and dance as the Huayra builds speed. There's also the delicious sound of the supercar's twin-turbocharged 6.0-ltier V12 barking out 720 horsepower, too. The noise is nothing if not intoxicating. Pagani Huayra leaked on magazine cover?

We've now seen three teasers of the upcoming Pagani Zonda replacement, dubbed "Huayra," or "C9" internally. The official details and images have yet to be released, but it appears that the first uncovered image of the Huayra has appeared on the cover of CAR magazine's Spanish-language edition.

We still don't have any details about the new Zonda successor, though the magazine's cover lines tell us that the car will cost about 1 million Euros and production will be limited to 20 units annually. If this is the production car, we're certainly not unhappy about the addition of gullwing doors to the Pagani design, though that front end is indeed a bit... mouthy.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for official images and data as the weeks progress. Your guess is as good as ours at this point for things like power numbers, 0-60 times and interior fittings, but since this car does replace the Zonda, we'd expect nothing short of earth-shattering figures.

It looks like we may have an inkling as to what Pagani will call its next supercar. According to the Italian web site Al Volante, the company has gone through the hassle of registering the name "Huayra." The nearly unpronounceable moniker sticks the company's tradition of branding its products after the famous winds of the world (not unlike many Volkswagen and Maserati models). In this case, Huayra is the word for "wind" from the ancient South American language of Quechua. Either that, or the company's marketing department threw alphabet soup at the wall until they came up with a suitable smattering of vowels and consonants.

Until now, the next Pagani has simply gone by the internal code name C9. And while the company has been kind enough to share a strange video teaser with the world, hard facts about what we can expect from the Zonda successor are few and far between. There's some indication that the beast will pack a mighty V12, and we'd be surprised if it didn't have enough horsepower to melt asphalt at a whim, but otherwise, we're completely in the dark as to what to expect. The Pagani C9 is coming and it will be here sooner than you think. Slated to arrive in the beginning of 2011, the C9 figures to be a beastly V12-powered supercar ready to pick up where the Zonda leaves off... if it ever actually leaves. Before we get a good look at the production C9, Pagani has decided to go the teaser route. It's giving us a glimpse of... something, and it's doing it in video form rather than close-ups of a headlamp or a wheel lugnut.

It's hard to tell exactly what to look for in the video, but you have to watch until this most subtle of teasers all the way to the end to find it. Hop the jump to view the java-flavored clip. Thanks to all for the tips!

Another day, another special-edition Zonda. Pagani has been crankin' them out seemingly without end, each one-off commissioned by one wealthy client or another. Examples have included the PS, Uno, Tricolore, HH, 750 and RAK editions, and have now expanded to include yet one more: the Zonda Absolute.

Reportedly commissioned by a customer in China, the Absolute edition has nothing to do with the vodka brand of similar name, but packs just as much of an intoxicating punch. Bare carbon fiber and a Tricolore Italian-flag stripe running up the nose and over the roof-mounted air intake set it apart in a package that's probably as close to the track-bound Zonda R as any street-legal version yet.

As we said before, it's that time when everyone starts rolling out their year-end "Best of" lists and revisits their favorite rides of 2010. Top Gear is in on the action, naming its annual award winners. Its list, as you can see, is diverse and loaded with forbidden fruit (at least for those of us in the U.S.)

While you might be at home recovering from a Turkey-induced hangover, the dedicated spy photographers of the world are out and about, dutifully catching glimpses of new cars as they are tested. One lucky lensmith caught a camouflaged Pagani C9 being put through a rigorous testing regime.

And rigorous it is, with a reported 500,000-plus combined kilometers having ticked off the odometers of the four prototypes and one test mule. Pagani wants to hit 700,000 kilometers before the car shows its unmasked face, which looks almost Fisker-esque in the photos you see here.

The Pagani C9 is powered by an AMG-developed V12 engine, which is not related to the V12 found in the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. Rumor has it that the V12 powering the C9 produces over 700 horsepower while also lowering C02 emissions to sub-supercar levels.

We're still calling it the C9, but the real name will be revealed sometime in the next few weeks. Pagani's Zonda replacement, whatever moniker it might wear, should make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2011. If that happens, you can be certain we'll be on hand to capture it from every angle.

Pagani Zonda RAK commissioned by German dealership

Few cars can hold a candle to the immense performance capabilities of the Pagani Zonda. Few can touch the number of versions that have come along the way, either. First came the C12, then the C12 S, the C12 S 7.3, the Zonda F, the Zonda R Clubsport and roadster versions of just about each one. But that's not even accounting for the special editions - often limited in production to a single example - that have followed since.

The Cinque and the Cinque Roadster have been followed by the PS, Uno, Tricolore, HH and most recently the 750. Each has been built to the exacting specifications of the wealthy client who's commissioned them, and now there's another: the Zonda RAK.

Like previous editions, the Zonda RAK is distinguished by its unique color scheme: bright yellow in this case, covering the body, the brake calipers and even the top-stitching on the interior. It's otherwise mechanically similar to the five-of-a-kind Cinque edition, packing a 700-horsepower version of the AMG-sourced V12 engine.

The Zonda RAK was reportedly commissioned by a dealership in Germany - Auto Salon Singen - which is putting it up for sale at €1.85 million, equivalent to over $2.5 million. If you've got the cash sitting around it can be yours. Or of course Automobili Pagani would be glad to create one to your tastes.

Start Wearing Purple: Pagani releases one-off Zonda 750

One of these days, we'll turn around and find that the last of the one-off special editions of the Pagani Zonda has come and gone. And that'll be okay, because by then we should have its oft-spied and highly-anticipated successor (tentatively dubbed C9) to ogle instead. But that day is not today, as yet another specially-commissioned Zonda has hit the interwebs.

Called the 750, this edition is based on the five-of-a-kind Zonda Cinque, but sets itself apart with an unmistakable magenta paint job and a redesigned rear window to accommodate that giant overhead fauxhawk air inlet. Specific details have not been announced, but given the one-off's name, it could be packing a 750-horsepower version of the Mercedes-Benz AMG-built 7.3-liter V12 engine. Or the 750 could stand for something else entirely.

The supercar is currently undergoing construction, commissioned by an unspecified Middle Eastern buyer. Color us surprised... which happens to be a similar shade of purple.

Jeremy Clarkson has created a new two-disc video titled The Italian Job, where the Top Gear host goes it alone with some of the best supercars money can buy. The video will feature Jezza hooning around Imola and Fiorano in typical shouty, animated fashion - and with good reason. He's got a range of dream cars at his disposal, including a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Pagani Zonda R, an off-roading Lamborghini Gallardo and a V-8 Ariel Atom (nevermind that it isn't Italian). Actually, the preview alone contains more vehicles than we care to list. There's even a helicopter to capture the action.

The goal of Clarkson's adventure is to prep the TG host for his first-ever Classic Touring Car Race in England against 20 experienced drivers. And while the two-disc DVD (or Blu-ray) doesn't go on sale until November 15, we've got a 4:36 preview with just about everything we could ask for. While Pagani continues to roll out special editions of the outgoing Zonda, we've been seeing just as many spy shots of its replacement undergoing development testing coming in. This latest batch, however, just might be the best look we've had at the new C9 yet.

Expected to launch sometime next year, the highly anticipated new Pagani supercar is expected to feature a 6.0-liter V12 custom built for the niche Italian automaker by Mercedes' AMG performance division, packing some 700 horsepower. This batch of spy shots was snapped while the test prototype - camouflaged with duct tape but wearing its own gull-winged sheetmetal - was undergoing high-altitude testing somewhere in Southern Europe. Italy's equivalent of America's Blue Angels is called the Frecce Tricolori, or Tricolor Arrows. Otherwise known by its official name, the 313th Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, the aerobatic team celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The squad recently brought the smoke and cartwheels with its fleet of Aeromacchi MB-339 jets, while Pagani added a little extra razzle-dazzle by taking its special edition Tricolore Zonda to the Rivolti Air Force base for some fun-and-gun. Even with the new model around the corner, Pagani has no problem putting out special editions of the current Zonda faster than Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's. The latest came in the form of the Zonda HH, a one-off blending the best bits from the Zonda Cinque edition and the Zonda F Roadster in a delicious blue package that looks about as drool-worthy as they come.

The big question on enthusiasts' minds, though, was just who commissioned the latest unique Zonda. Initial speculation based on the name had it that Hugh Heffner had ordered the special supercar, but those rumors can now be put to rest as the real buyer has been revealed as David Heinemeier Hansson.

The 30-year-old software guru is the brains behind such programs as the Ruby on Rails web-dev platform and the 37signals software firm. Heinemeier Hansson is based in Chicago, but since the Zonda was never homologated to U.S. specifications, reports indicate that the owner bought a vacation home in Italy just so he could drive the thing. Now that's dedication.

The latest special edition Zonda to come from Pagani is set to be delivered to one ludicrously wealthy American later this year, but before the official wraps come off, a sneak peek of the Zonda HH has arrived online.

There's still no word on who the one-off convertible is being built for, but the proud poppa has detailed his commissioned creation over at TeamSpeed and, as reported previously, it's a keen amalgamation of the Zonda F and Cinque.

The HH starts with the Zonda's carbon-titanium tub, and from there the owner has picked the best bits from the Pagani parts bin. Carbon ceramic brakes hide behind center-locking wheels, while the Cinque's 680-horsepower AMG-sourced V12 resides out back, with spent hydrocarbons shuttled out a titanium exhaust system and sending power to a proper manual gearbox.

While the Monterey Blue exterior and yellow accenting is a go, the design is still be fleshed out and the man behind the HH hopes to have it in his possession by year's end, complete with the F's front clip but minus the massive rear-mounted air intake. In the mystery buyer's own words, "that was a little much."

Another limited edition Pagani Zonda teased

There are a few invariable constants in the automotive universe more unshakable than the parade of special-edition supercars. Pagani has done its part to abide by this law of nature by planning to churn out yet another unique version of its Zonda. The new model is a sort of "best of" selection of parts from around the Pagani shop and boasts the same 678 horsepower V12 from the Cinque, bolted to an honest-to-goodness manual transmission.

The company managed to keep weight down to a feathery 2,667 pounds thanks to bodywork from the Zonda F, and dipped the car in a buyer-specified Monterey Blue paint. The company calls the car the Zonda HH, and if you're thinking it sounds like something you wouldn't mind sticking in your garage, too bad. The car is a one-off beast built just for one very affluent (but so far unnamed) American buyer. The guy had a hand in picking every last one of the parts bolted onto the car, and from his choices, we're guessing he knows what he's doing behind a wrench. So far we only have a few teasers to drool over, but supposedly more news is coming soon. Stay tuned.

The visuals to go with the "record." Pagani blasted its Zonda R over the Nürburgring for the purposes of testing production components. Removing all the mystery from the endeavor, the in-car video shows the view out the window as the driver of the R resets yet another bar at 6:47. We put "record" in quotes simply because this flier isn't road legal, so we're in all kinds of gray area. But it beat the Ferrari 599XX, and that's feat unto itself. Another day, another spy shot of the upcoming Pagani C9 hypercar...and another revelation, this time from Autoweek.nl. We've been waiting rather impatiently to see what Horacio Pagani will give us to replace the dearly beloved Pagani Zonda, so every nugget that drops has us straining to see if the sequel will be even half as good as the original. The Zonda is revered by many, so the followup needs to be something really special. That kind of buildup tends to put a lot of pressure on designers, particularly at a small automaker. One way to avoid the heat is to design to avoid direct comparisons - Think of the McLaren MP4-12C and its iconic F1 forebearer. Another is to give the new car something to make it stand out, something like gullwing doors.

This latest spy pic - and another posted with the one above over at Autoweek.nl - clearly show that the C9 will be sporting upward swinging hatches. With Pagani's reverence for Juan Manuel Fangio and the resulting ties to Mercedes-Benz, the introduction of the new SLS AMG and the need to differentiate between old and new Pagani models, perhaps this shouldn't be much a surprise. It does, however, fill in one more piece of the puzzle - and the finished product is looking better by the day.

The V12-powered C9 is expected to make its official debut by the end of this year. In the meantime, check out another look at this prototype by visiting our friends at Autoweek.nl.

Report: Pagani planning lightweight V8 supercar for 2015

Horacio Pagani isn't accustomed to sitting still. The Argentine-Italian supercar-maker has been tweaking successive versions of the Zonda since its creation, and recently took the Nürburgring lap record with the track-focused Zonda R. But that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to things to come for Pagani.

Next on the horizon is the tentatively dubbed C9. The successor to the current Zonda is expected to get a twin-turbo V12 made specifically for the Modenese firm by Mercedes AMG, not the decommissioned supercharged V8 from the SLR as previously speculated. But don't discount the idea of an eight-cylinder Pagani just yet, as fresh reports from Europe suggest that a second model could be in the works to slot in below the C9/Zonda and give the niche automaker a two-car lineup.

As is often the case with such reports, details are scarce at the moment, but the formula calls for a smaller, lighter-weight package than either the current Zonda or the upcoming C9. Sources don't expect the sprightlier Pagani to arrive before 2015, but as the sayings go, good things come in small packages...and to those who wait.
