Like the versions that preceded this latest iteration, the new fortwo BRABUS is a trick-looking little ride, sporting the German tuner's Monoblock VI alloys, a lowered suspension, flared wheel arches, and a sport exhaust system. BRABUS pedals, gauges and a 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters complete the look. If the Xclusive package is selected, additional skirting is added outside, and inside, the seats are leather-shod and heated, with additional leatherette and aluminum-look elements sprucing up the surroundings.

Power comes from a 98-horsepower turbocharged inline 3-cylinder that affords brisk performance (for a smart) with a 9.9-second 0-62 time and a top end of 96 mph. Fuel economy in the combined cycle is 45 mpg even with the extra punch, and it emits just 126g/km of carbon dioxide. Prices range from €16,490 to €22,430 depending on body style and trim packages. Once again, the butchiest-looking smart fortwo is also the coolest of the bunch, and it's stil a miser at the pump, to boot.

[Source: smart]
Continue reading New smart fortwo BRABUS: More power, still stingy

New smart fortwo BRABUS: More power, still stingy originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 19:31:00 EST. The smart fortwo Brabus gives the European motoring public what it has come to expect from the company, a high-performance version of the fortwo sporting a 98bhp/103 ft-lbs. of torque version of the car's three-cylinder engine. That 103 ft-lbs. of torque is 100% available to your right foot at 5,500 RPM, but considering the car weighs only 1,700 lbs. or so, the estimated 0-62 mph time of under ten seconds seems reasonable. The car is lowered 15 mm on a Brabus tuned sport suspension and tucks a larger set of "Monoblock VI" wheels within wider fender flares. A sport exhaust system and new fog lights round out the exterior package. The inside of fortwo Brabus also gets a number of new styling cues straight from the Brabus handbook of tuning: a new shift knob, pedals and hand brake handle.

The smart fortwo Brabus Xclusive, meanwhile, focuses on luxury in addition to sport. It gets all the aforementioned goodies of the standard fortwo Brabus, plus a new front spoiler, side skirts and tinted clear glass headlights. Your bum will be warmed by heated leather seats and shifts can be snapped off in a hurry thanks to a new three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters. The Xclusive also gets special head/thorax airbags as standard equipment. Unlike most two-toned fortwos, the Xclusive will only be available in all black or all silver.

[Source: smart via eMercedesBenz]

Gallery: smart fortwo Brabus and Brabus Xclusive

Geneva Preview: Brabus unveiling two smart fortwo models originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 14:02:00 EST.
