<br />With its aggressive stance, classic lines and deep-throated growl, it'd take a really breathtaking array of exotic machinery to let a car like the Jaguar XKR go by unnoticed. Unfortunately for Jaguar, that's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-mega-gallery/">exactly what rolls up Lord March's lawn</a> every summer for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The stoic British marque has a long history of participation in the event, and came this year with its 225mph XFR and a host of rare classics. But apparently eager to make its mark, Jaguar turned up with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/">special-edition XKR</a>, painting it a retina-burning shade of lime green with orange decals, just to make sure it got noticed.<br /><br />The Goodwood Special upgrades the stock XKR with a lowered suspension, retuned exhaust, 21-inch alloys and satin graphite trim replacing the chrome. But the real treat is under the hood, where Coventry's finest have squeezed out a further twenty ponies from the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 for a total of 530 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque. Considering that the (anything but) ordinary 510 hp version rockets to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, the extra power promises to take the sport coupe into even more rarified territory. Unfortunately for the time being the Goodwood Special remains a one-off, but Jaguar is reportedly keeping its ear to the ground for enough feedback to offer a limited production run. <br />In a press release announcing the cars it would be taking to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jaguar's own Mike Cross has officially confirmed the coming of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/28/jaguar-to-make-a-roaring-lion-xkr-goodwood-special-mooted/">Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special</a>. We noted before that it would be louder and faster and detailed in satin graphite, but now we find out it will get a lower ride height over 21-inch wheels and - are you ready? - "a unique Lime Green paint scheme and XKR exterior graphic" as shown above. Alrighty, then.<br /><br />That hard-to-miss car will join a few more trailers of Jaguar goodies, including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit-2009-faster-pussycat-jaguar-xfr-pounces-on-bonneville/">225 mph Bonneville XFR</a>, a 1957 Long Nose D-Type, a Le Mans winning C-Type, and the one-of-a-kind Jaguar XJ13. Goodwood is just around the corner (July 3-5), and you can read all about Jaguar's plans in the press release after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Jaguar]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jaguar officially announces XKR Goodwood Special... in lime green</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/">Jaguar officially announces XKR Goodwood Special... in lime green</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 18:58:00 EST. Called, fittingly, the XKR Goodwood Special, it will get more power than the standard XKR's (shown above) 500 horses, and more audible snarl than the current exhaust emits. <br /><br />Because Jag is said to be reconsidering the car's brightwork treatment, the Goodwood Special will wear a satin graphite detailing package that could foreshadow a future running change (we know we could do without the metal surrounds on the car's front skirt nostrils). The car is still being finished so there's a good chance it won't be seen until just before the event, but we always look forward to a cat that scratches harder and roars louder.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=20178">Pistonheads</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/28/jaguar-to-make-a-roaring-lion-xkr-goodwood-special-mooted/">Jaguar to make a roaring lion? <br />About 20 minutes after heading south towards the Mediterranean, traffic on our four-lane roadway stops abruptly. The bus we have just passed pulls up on our right and an officer is standing in the middle of the roadway, waving the morass of motorists through - until we reach the head of the pack. He points at us, then motions towards an unpaved turnout where a handful of squad cars are accompanied by a dozen police officers.<br /><br />We pull the white, droptop XK into the dirt lot, twist the rotary shifter into Park and within seconds we're being berated by a young officer with "CADET" embroidered across his upright baseball cap. Our French is about as good as our Klingon, so after realizing we don't speak the native tongue, he snatches our documents and leaves us to stew.<br /><br />A few minutes pass, at which point an older officer approaches and asks in perfect English, "Do you know why you are here?" We tepidly shake our heads as he informs us we were doing 60 km/h in a 40 zone. Our wallet recoils in horror as we remember the advice given to us earlier in the week: "The police in France are very strict about speed limits. The fine can run upwards of 1,500 euros (a little over $2,000) and it is payable on the spot." Just as thoughts of frantic phone calls, maxed-out credit cards and the atrocities that await us in a Parisian jail cell begin to flood our minds, the officer cocks his head sideways, realizes we're a pair of dimwitted Americans and simply says, "Please be more careful."<br /><br />So begins our time with the foursome of Jaguar's newest offerings, and we haven't even sampled the 510-horsepower XKR and XFR yet.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XKR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Damon Lavrinc / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/29/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr-xkr-and-one-of-the-best-v8s-on-the-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR, XKR and one of the best V8s on the market</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/29/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr-xkr-and-one-of-the-best-v8s-on-the-2/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR, XKR and one of the best V8s on the market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 11:58:00 EST. The fine can run upwards of 1,500 euros (a little over $2,000) and it is payable on the spot." Just as thoughts of frantic phone calls, maxed-out credit cards and the atrocities that await us in a Parisian jail cell begin to flood our minds, the officer cocks his head sideways, realizes we're a pair of dimwitted Americans and simply says, "Please be more careful."<br /><br />So begins our time with the foursome of Jaguar's newest offerings, and we haven't even sampled the 510-horsepower XKR and XFR yet.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/xfrjag2010004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XKR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/jagxkr2010005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Damon Lavrinc / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/29/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr-xkr-and-one-of-the-best-v8s-on-the/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR, XKR and one of the best V8s on the market</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/29/first-drive-2010-jaguar-xfr-xkr-and-one-of-the-best-v8s-on-the/">First Drive: 2010 Jaguar XFR, XKR and one of the best V8s on the market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 11:57:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Jaguar XKR</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<p><br />Emerging from Jaguar's press conference yesterday from a cloud of manufactured smoke and amidst the too-loud blare of the Gallagher Brothers were the stonking new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/10/detroit-2009-jaguar-unleashes-2010-xkr-this-kitty-has-claws/">XKR Coupe</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/10/detroit-2009-jaguar-unleashes-2010-xkr-this-kitty-has-claws/">Convertible</a>.<br /><br />While the exterior receives subtle changes (new front and rear bumper designs, LED taillamps), the real news is under the hood. More than just an augmented supercharger, the blown XKs receive Jag's all-new Gen III AJ-V8 that's supercharged and features direct injection, which makes it good for 510 brake horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. That newfound power helps the 3800+ pound XKR reach 60 miles-per-hour in just 4.6 seconds. The new XKR also enjoys the same interior theater experience upon startup that debuted in the XF, including air vents that rotate around and the flush JaguarDrive gear selector.<br /><br />In our time with the current XKR, we always enjoyed the shape and the interior as well as the ride, but were somewhat underwhelmed with the performance and handling. The new R promises to rectify at least the power deficiency versus some other European performance luxury coupes, so we're hoping that the handling comes along for the ride. Check out the gallery of live shots below and the press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-white-lightning-jaguar-shows-510-bhp-xkrs-w-vid/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/">Detroit 2009: 2010 Jaguar XKR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010xkrlive_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010xkrlive_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010xkrlive_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010xkrlive_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/2010xkrlive_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/">2010 Jaguar XKR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jaguar_xkr_2010_opt_18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jaguar_xkr_2010_opt_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jaguar_xkr_2010_opt_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jaguar_xkr_2010_opt_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-jaguar-xkr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/jaguar_xkr_2010_opt_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><em><font size="1">Live photos copyright (C)2009 </font></em></strong><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><em><font size="1">Drew Phillips</font></em></strong></a><strong><em><font size="1"> / Weblogs, Inc.</font></em></strong></p>

The new XK, long due for a serious refresh, will show up in 2009 with the minor addition of the JaguarDrive selector a la XF and the major addition of a diesel engine to boost fuel economy and sales, along with two new V8s. <br /><br />Since Jaguar's 2.7-liter V6, which puts out 204 hp and 320 lb-ft., is only getting bored out to 3.0 liters it probably won't match the numbers put up by BMW's 3.5-liter, at 286 hp and 427 lb-ft. But the larger lump should goose the horsepower number and seriously increase torque (we hope) at least to the level of Audi's 3.0-liter V6 diesel, which turns out 240 hp and 369 lb-ft.<br /><br />If diesel economy and pump prices still don't register with you, there will still be two gas options to fuel the fires. The 4.2-liter V8 goes away to make room for the new 5.0-liter with 400 hp, and if you want whipped cream and cherries on top, hit Jaguar up for the supercharged XK-R with 500 hp.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Jaguar-readies-new-diesel-XK-sports-car/">CAR</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/01/spy-shots-jaguar-xk-diesel-under-development/">Spy Shots: Jaguar XK diesel under development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 09:35:00 EST. Now, the regular XKR is a delectable conveyance that combines endless sex appeal with eye-widening performance. Put plainly, it is an absolute hoot to drive. The XKR-S takes all that goodness and ramps things up a bit. The 420-horsepower blown V8 is unchanged, and the XKR-S has the same 0-60 time (4.9 seconds) as its standard counterpart. What does change is the electronically governed top speed. Adding the "S" also adds 19 mph to the cat's top end, now 174 mph.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-jaguar-xkr-s/677684/"><img width="250" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="188" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/jag_xkrs_hi21vlo.jpg" alt="Jaguar XKR-S" /></a>Among the myriad other changes made for the XKR-S are the addition of big Alcon Performance R brakes, a retuned suspension, and a host of visual and aerodynamics upgrades, such as new wheels with retro-logo caps, a new front splitter, side skirts, a new rear spoiler, and a rear diffuser insert. Inside, what was already a very nice cabin becomes opulent, with new interior trim, a higher-end audio system, updated instruments (to accomodate the higher top speed) and other sundry niceties. The current <a href="http://autos.aol.com/jaguar-xkr-2008:9356-overview">Jaguar XK-R</a> isn't enough to really challenge cars like the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/aston-martin-v8-vantage-2006:8117-overview">Aston Martin Vantage V8</a> or <a href="http://autos.aol.com/porsche-911-2007:8565-overview">Porsche 911</a>, so Jag is cooking up a hotter version -- an XK-R-R?</p>
<p>With ECU and engine modifications, the forced breather should be good for more than 500 HP and a 180+ MPH top speed. With that kind of heat -- an 80+ HP jump over the current XKR and 120+ more than the Vantage -- the car will get to 60 in 4.5 seconds. It is expected to take cues and more from Jag's GT3 race car, yet while it is thought to get racing-style bucket seats and carbon fiber trim, it will still be appointed like a Jag. Outside, a new front air dam is the only change that has been spied so far.</p>

Ask for the best large or midsize luxury saloon, however, and you will not get a car crowned by a leaping jungle cat. Read Dan Roth's review of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/06/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-jaguar-xk-convertible/">2007 Jaguar XK Convertible</a>, and you'll wonder just how the current XJ, S-Type and X-Type can be sold under the same brand as the XK Coupe and Convertible.<br /> <br /> So what happens when you add an "R" to the XK? For one, the price jumps by $11,000 to $92,500. Aside from that, the high-performance version of Jaguar's sexy drop top kicks things up a notch from mild to medium strength. As good as the XK is, does the additional consonant make that big of a difference?<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/">2007 Jaguar XKR Convertible</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/-2007-jag-xkr-convert-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/-2007-jag-xkr-convert-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/-2007-jag-xkr-convert-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/-2007-jag-xkr-convert-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/-2007-jag-xkr-convert-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/30/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Jaguar XKR Convertible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/30/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-jaguar-xkr-convertible/">In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Jaguar XKR Convertible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 30 Aug 2007 12:04:00 EST. Expect pricing to be firmed up sometime towards September, when the GT is set to be released.</strong>
<p nd="1"> </p>
<p nd="1"><a href="http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/04/19/maserati-granturismo-95k-puts-it-head-to-head-with-jaguar-xkr/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/maserati_granturismo.jpg" /></a></p>
<p nd="1">At the Chicago Auto Show, Maserati PR man Jeffrey Ehoodin said "We are not an exotic." In case that didn't get the message across, Maserati has put its money where its mouth is, pricing the new GranTurismo at $95,000. That slots the Maser in above the Jaguar XKR convertible and below the BMW M6 Coupe and Mercedes CL.</p>
<p nd="1">Maserati discovered that people thought their cars were as expensive as DB9's and Continental GT's. That's great for the prestige stakes, but awful for the bottom line. The GranTurismo is, in fact, $18K cheaper than the cheapest Aston Martin, the V8 Vantage. Though the Maserati is short 15 hp to and .7 seconds slower to 60 than the XKR, what you get instead is a rolling sculpture designed by the man who penned the 599, usable rear seats, and the Maserati cachet that everyone else seems to think costs so much. And even though you don't see too many XKR's on the road, you're guaranteed to see even few GranTurismos -- if you're into that sort of thing. To all those folks who wanted Maserati's but thought they couldn't afford one, when the car arrives in June, you can come on in from the cold.</p>

The rationale for this plan was simple: Jaguar's R-badged offerings made more money per unit, for both the automaker and the dealers, than any of their other models and if they could make Jag the "supercharged" brand, there might have been a light at the end of the financially troubled tunnel.<br /><br />During the exploratory phase, Jag's engineers worked up a few supercharged X-type prototypes while the marketing crew was hard at work trying to gear advertising towards their new mission statement.<br /><br />In the end, the X-types were either crushed or thrown into storage, numbers didn't crunch as intended, executives began getting squeamish -- especially at the prospect of the inevitable comparos between Jaguar and other high- performance luxury brands (ahem, BMW), and eventually, the entire plan was shelved. Considering that the goal was to make Jaguar a niche player, selling a small amount of unique vehicles at a profit, it's disappointing to see that the brand is now just selling a small amount of vehicles.<br /><br />[Source: Autoweek]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/jags-stillborn-supercharged-savior/">Jag's stillborn supercharged savior</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 07 Feb 2007 08:33:00 EST. The same people who brought us the Le Mans-winning Bentley back in 2003, Apex has taken on a new partner and been reformed for this venture. Should be refreshing to see this legendary name return to racing, especially in something that mimics the road cars so closely.<br /><br />The Jags will join showroom rivals such as Aston Martin and Maserati on the tracks of Europe next year without official factory support but with Jaguar's blessing. The process of turning these new aluminum-bodied, supercharged Jags into race cars will start immediately at Apex's Buckingham, England shop. They are expected to be ready for the first race next season.<br /><br />[Source: Crash.net]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/06/jag-xkr-to-join-gt3-in-2007/">Jag XKR to join GT3 in 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 06 Sep 2006 10:27:00 EST. In addition, Jaguar's acceleration claims put the coupe at 60 mph in 4.9 second and the convertible in 5.0 seconds. <br /><br />The fat cat has lost 154-lbs. in R-trim, tipping the scales now at 3,671 lbs. The suspension gets stiffer spring rates all around and an additional brace between the rear shock towers. The new XKR's aluminum monocoque construction contributes to a 30-percent stiffer coupe and 40-percent stiffer convertible. Bigger brakes can be seen through the spokes of 19-inch wheels (20-inchers are optional) and benefit from ABS, electronic brake force distribution, and brake assist.<br /><br />Reportedly the XKR will arrive in showrooms this December, which is a great time of year to put your new high-performance convertible up for sale. If you want an XKR convertible and don't mind driving around with icicles on your 'stach for awhile, the droptop should go for around $92,000. The coupe is expected to be $85,000.<br /><br />[Source: AutoWeek]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/29/jaguar-xkr-info-and-pics/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>More Jaguar XKR info and pics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/29/jaguar-xkr-info-and-pics/">More Jaguar XKR info and pics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Jun 2006 15:01:00 EST. Don't know who is getting canned over this rather large leak, but official pics of the Jaguar XKR that was supposed to make its world debut at the British Motor Show in July have made their way onto the world wide web. From what we know the XKR will come with a supercharged 4.2L V8 developing 416 horsepower. Available in both coup&egrave; and cabriolet versions, the hardtop will be able to reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds with the droptop not far behind at 5.3 seconds. The ferocious cat's terminal velocity will be electronically limited to 155 mph.<br /><br />Pricing for high-po XKR will be EUR 94,990 for the coupe and EUR 102,990 for the cabriolet. The visual changes lend a new look to this precocious cat that appears remarkably show worthy. From the hood scallops to the mesh grille and air intakes to the aluminum-trimmed air outlet aft of the front wheels, the XKR's got style aplenty.<br /><br />[Source: autoblog.it]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/29/jaguar-xkr-the-cat-s-out-of-the-bag/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jaguar XKR - the cat's out of the bag</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/29/jaguar-xkr-the-cat-s-out-of-the-bag/">Jaguar XKR - the cat's out of the bag</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Jun 2006 01:49:00 EST. The automaker is keeping mum on the car's specifics for now, but expect additional information to trickle out as we get closer to its July 18 unveiling. That the big reveal is happening on the company's home turf only adds to the building anticipation and makes it an early favorite to be the star of the show. <br /><br />What we <em>do</em> know is that the new XKR was designed at Jaguar's Whitley Product Development Centre in Coventry, and will be built at its Castle Bromwich facility in Birmingham. Like it's XK sibling, the XKR should be lighter and faster than the vehicle it's replacing. <br /><br />As for how it looks, all we've got is a teaser for now, but as soon as we get our hands on more pictures, we'll share them with you.&nbsp; <br /><br />[Source: Jaguar]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/12/supercharged-jaguar-xkr-to-make-british-international-motor-show/">Supercharged Jaguar XKR to make British International Motor Show debut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Jun 2006 20:04:00 EST.
