<br /><a href="www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/1116905/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/23_vwsp2_opt.jpg" alt="" /></a>Back in the 1970s when Volkswagen was trying to evolve from The Beetle Company to something more, the Type III was developed to go gunning for the mainstream. VW's Brazilian division was essentially it's own little fiefdom; with the market closed to imports and only Karmann Ghias to offer as sports cars. Even the spiffy and rare Type III Ghia was no longer too impressive by 1971. Division head Rudolf Leiding saw the need for a newer sports car and pushed through <a href="http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2007/07/01/hmn_feature17.html">Project X</a>, which used the Type III underpinnings and placed an attractive and modern coupe body atop the floorpan. Leiding was called back to run Volkswagen proper, but his modern coupe saw some success, and around 10,000 were produced making VW fans worldwide envious of the Brazilian market. <br /><br />With the revival of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Scirocco/">Scirocco</a>, it seems only natural that interest in other sporty 1970's VWs would be piqued. Designer <a href="http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/2008/top-2008-Volkswagen-SP-2-Concept-Design-by-Marcelo-Rosa.htm">Marcelo Rosa</a> has whipped up an updated vision of what a new SP2 might look like, and we like it. The idea is much like the upcoming Camaro - paying homage to the past without going completely retro. Some of the detailing is a little slavishly accurate and wouldn't fit with where VW's current style direction is going, but there's always room for a vehicle that pulls on the heartstrings; this is the company that makes the New Beetle, after all. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/">Marcello Rosa VW SP2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/05_vwsp2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/00_vwsp2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/01_vwsp2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/02_vwsp2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/marcello-rosa-vw-sp2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/03_vwsp2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/10/volkswagen-sp-2-concept-revives-vw.html">Carscoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/24/rendered-speculation-volkswagen-sp2-redux/">Rendered Speculation: Volkswagen SP2 redux</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 24 Oct 2008 10:29:00 EST. Big screen tough guy Sylvester Stallone is no different, and since he hasn't had a <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">good</span> financially successful picture since Demolition Man, he was probably pretty excited when Volkswagen of Brazil came calling. Following the jump are two VW commercials for the VW Gol hatchback. The first one is a minute and a half long, and features a Rambo-style helicopter vs. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/coming-to-america-vw-polo-may-come-stateside/">sub-Polo</a> Gol battle royale. And the second one involves a group of curious onlookers honing in on the Gol as it sits parked on the side of the road. Both ads feature a rough-looking Stallone showing up at the end, and even though he only utters a few words, a Portuguese-speaking dub is needed. Hillarious, and kind of sad at the same time. <span style="font-style: italic;">Thanks for the tip, Carlos!</span> <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://argentinaautoblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/dos-estilos-publicitarios-para-el-nuevo.html">Argentina Autoblog</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/30/video-sylvester-stallone-shilling-for-vw-in-brazil/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Sylvester Stallone shilling for VW in Brazil</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/30/video-sylvester-stallone-shilling-for-vw-in-brazil/">VIDEO: Sylvester Stallone shilling for VW in Brazil</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 18:58:00 EST. Brazil will see the revisions first. The front fascia is smoothed out following the deletion of the grille bar and the relocation of the driving lights (they're more low-profile and spaced farther apart). The CrossFox side graphic gets reduced in size and is joined by the stylized fox logo, too. And that, friends, is the extent of the changes. The 103-horsepower four-cylinder underhood is unchanged, as are the rest of the car's mechanicals.<br /><br />You can check out the current pre-facelift CrossFox in the high-res gallery below, and if you're interested, you can read more about it at <a href="http://www.vwbr.com.br/Automoveis/?idModelo=33805">VW Brazil</a> (Portuguese) or <a href="http://www.volkswagen.cl/templates_showroom/crossfox/index.html">VW Chile</a> (Spanish). All we know is that the CrossFox looks pretty cool to us. Add it to the list of forbidden fruit we'd love to have a shot at.<br /><br />[Source: El Diferencial via <a href="http://blog.worldcarfans.com/index.cfm/8070524.004/2008-volkswagen-crossfox-facelift">WorldCarFans</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-crossfox/low/">VW CrossFox</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-crossfox/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/vwcrossfox001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-crossfox/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/vwcrossfox002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-crossfox/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/vwcrossfox003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vw-crossfox/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/vwcrossfox004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/29/brazil-vw-crossfox-facelifted/">Brazil: VW CrossFox facelifted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 29 May 2007 19:46:00 EST.
