<br />The Chevy Volt isn't quite ready to be unleashed on the public, mostly because its powertrain is entirely different than anything General Motors -- or any other automaker -- has ever produced. An extreme amount of testing is required, especially for the batteries, before GM is ready to put its Volt into dealerships. Having this extra time before pushing the car out has its advantages for the design team, which is free to make small, incremental changes to bits of the Volt that may have needed a little tweak here and there. For instance, Bob Boniface and his crew have revised the production car's center stack with an altered LCD screen perched up top with a hood that matches the one over the gauge cluster. The new screen has smoother edges and looks more integrated into the dash. Boniface says that many people thought the old screen design was movable, which it wasn't.<br /><br />There are also new vents positioned vertically on either side of the iPod-like central cluster that hold all of the Volt's controls. Those buttons now offer a more tactile sensation in the form of "pill-shaped targets" on each control. Also included in the revision are new audible that sound when buttons are activated. While all of these alterations seems rather minor, we appreciate each of them and think this equals a big improvement over an interior that we already liked.<br /><br />

The interior, however, is all about how the driver interacts with the vehicle. And with the Volt, GM designers attempted to pull off a Buck Rodgers meets Apple iPod theme.<br /><br />A quick glance at the futuristic Volt interior shows a very unique approach to integrating design and technology. The first thing we noticed was that GM decided to use two seven-inch LCD screens, with one working as the main driver instrument panel (no gauge cluster here) and the other for everything from navigation to tracking battery charges. Both screens are user configurable, and two different configurations can be saved for two different drivers.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/video-walkthrough-of-2011-chevy-volt-interior/">Follow the jump</a> for more including a video demonstration of the Chevy Volt's interior by one of its designers.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/">2011 Chevy Volt - Interior</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-interior02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-interior03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-interior09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-interior04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt-interior/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-interior01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/">2011 Chevy Volt - Live Reveal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/00_voltlive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/01_voltlive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/02_voltlive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/03_voltlive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevy-volt-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/04_voltlive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/video-walkthrough-of-2011-chevy-volt-interior/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Walkthrough of 2011 Chevy Volt interior</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/video-walkthrough-of-2011-chevy-volt-interior/">VIDEO: Walkthrough of 2011 Chevy Volt interior</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 16 Sep 2008 13:57:00 EST. All we have to go on for this image posted on the <a href="http://forums.thecarlounge.net/zerothread?id=4002755">Motivemag.com forums</a> is the image itself, which is part of a display panel at what appears to be a sneak preview of the vehicle for god knows who. What we see is a sleek, all-white center console with virtually no buttons. The controls appear to be touch sensitive instead, leaving the face of the console as smooth as a Frigidaire. Good luck installing an aftermarket stereo in this one. Completely flush air vents flank the console, which stands out in contrast to the black dash panel. On top of it all sits the information display, seen here showing the relationship between the "range extending" engine and lithium-ion batteries. What say you? We all know the production Volt isn't going to be as wild as the concept, but does this innovative center console meet your expectations? Also keep in mind that this might not be the real deal, but it seems to be from all appearances. <em>Thanks for the tip, Brandon!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/">Production Chevy Volt</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/voltfrontxg7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/volt-t2-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/005_voltspyprod_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/003_voltspyprod_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/production-chevy-volt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/001_voltspyprod_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></em>[Source: <a href="http://forums.thecarlounge.net/zerothread?id=4002755">Motivemag.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/28/spy-shot-chevy-volt-interior-maybe/">Spy Shot: Production interior of Chevy Volt (maybe)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 28 Aug 2008 15:21:00 EST.
