<br /> While we patiently await the release of<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/25/spy-shots-vw-robust-pickup/"> Volkswagen's Robust pickup truck</a> on this side of the equator, our upside-down neighbors to the south have received a VW pickup of their own. Called the Saveiro, the truck seen above is made in Brazil exclusively for the South American market to compete with the likes of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/fiat-tempts-latin-american-and-european-audiences-with-strada-ca/">Fiat Strada</a> and Chevrolet Montana (not to be confused with the Pontiac-badged minivan). <br /> <br /> For 2010, the Volkswagen Saveiro has been refreshed to look more like the rest of the VW range. Power comes from a flex-fuel 1.6-liter engine, producing 101 horsepower on gasoline or 104 on ethanol, which is a popular fuel in South America. For our part, we don't mind waiting a little longer for the Robust (not that we're likely to get it in the States), but you can check out the Saveiro in the gallery below.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/">2010 Volkswagen Saveiro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/0-saveiro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="0-saveiro" title="0-saveiro" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/1-saveiro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="1-saveiro" title="1-saveiro" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/2-saveiro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2-saveiro" title="2-saveiro" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/3-saveiro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="3-saveiro" title="3-saveiro" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-saveiro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/4-saveiro_thumbnail.jpg" alt="4-saveiro" title="4-saveiro" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.carroonline.net/index.asp?codc=3757#">Carro Online</a> via <a href="http://www.autoblog.it/post/21744/volkswagen-saveiro">Autoblog.it</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/25/less-than-robust-volkswagen-releases-new-saveiro-ute-in-south-a/">Less Than Robust: Volkswagen releases new Saveiro ute in South America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 25 Aug 2009 10:27:00 EST. So when the circus rolls into town, you can bet Germany's giant auto industry will embrace the opportunity to reveal their latest. Audi's tipped to unveil its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/A5Sportback/">A5 Sportback</a> and revised <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/A8/">A8</a>, Mercedes is expected to unveil its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/EClassCabrio/">E-Class Cabrio</a>, BMW the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/X1/">X1</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/5SeriesGT/">5-Series GT</a>/Progressive Activity Sedan... even Opel is anticipated to unveil its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Astra/">Astra</a> in Frankfurt. But according to the latest reports, Volkswagen is preparing to upstage them all with four new models.<br /><br />First up is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Robust/">Robust</a> pick-up truck <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/21/spy-shots-volkswagen-pickup-prototype-runs-the-ring/">recently spied</a> undergoing testing at the Nurburgring. A more versatile version of VW's midsize hatchback called the Golf Variant is tipped to join the show stage, too. But the real excitement is in the pair of hot hatches set to make their debuts in Frankfurt. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/07/vw-planning-new-golf-gti-and-r-variant/">Golf R</a> is anticipated to pack a 265-hp 2.0-liter TFSI with all the trimmings, while a mini-Scirocco based on the Polo could also be in the cards, packing a 180-hp 1.4-liter four. Of course, it's entirely possible that one or more of these could drop off the card for the upcoming show in September, but either way, Volkswagen looks set to make a big splash in Frankfurt this year, and of course we'll be on hand to catch it all for you.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.nl/autonieuws/11659/Volkswagen-primeurs-voor-Frankfurt">AutoWeek.nl</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/11/volkswagen-to-debut-four-new-models-in-frankfurt/">Volkswagen to debut four new models in Frankfurt?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 11 May 2009 18:29:00 EST. At one point, the regular cab version was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/26/rendered-speculation-volkswagen-robust-pickup/">speculated to have buttresses</a>, but we'd be surprised if there was that much difference between it and the dual cab. This hauler is about nothing other than good, solid -- and probably cheap -- transportation. Even the name "Robust" will be changed by the time it's introduced, probably to something like Plain White Pickup. <em>Thanks for the tip, Gavin!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.wheels24.co.za/Content/News/Future_Models/7/ea676c9f9903478b95c7f25dbc385fc9/VW%20double%20cab%20for%20'09%20-%20new%20spy%20pics">Wheels24</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/25/spy-shots-vw-robust-pickup/">Spy Shots: VW "Robust" pickup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 25 Jul 2008 08:32:00 EST. The vast and versatile loading area of a pickup, while a selling point in the US, is seen by VW as a sales liability on Euro soil. The vehicle's sales potential didn't stand up to analysis by the automaker, which cited oil prices as the culprit for shifting market desires. The Volkswagen Robust is still underway, with the program ramping up to churn 90,000 pickups out of VW's Pacheco, Argentina plant starting in 2009. It looks like Europe will still be graced with funky working vehicles that take the place of our pickups - <em>vive la difference</em>!<br /><br />[Source: Forbes]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/06/volkswagen-kills-plan-for-pickup-in-europe/">Volkswagen kills plan for pickup in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 06 Jul 2008 10:01:00 EST. These are the first shots that we've seen of the truck, internally called the Robust, wearing its own skin. This version is a quad-cab with a short bed, though we know from a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/hecha-en-argentina-first-official-drawing-of-vws-new-pickup/">prior rendering</a> that a two-door standard cab with a regular-sized bed will also be offered, as well as two- and four-wheel-drive versions. The truck will be built at factories in both Argentina and Hannover, Germany for markets around the world, though VW has not said if it will ever see a dealer lot in the U.S. The Robust looks to be about the size of a Ford Ranger, which makes us hope that VW does decide to sell it in the U.S where the market for a small, efficient pickup is ripe for the taking. Check out more high-res spy shots of the 2010 Volkswagen Robust in the gallery below. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-robust-spy-shots/low/">2010 Volkswagen Robust - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-robust-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/w_vw_robust_apr08_priddy1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-robust-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/w_vw_robust_apr08_priddy3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volkswagen-robust-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/w_vw_robust_apr08_priddy5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Brenda Priddy &amp; Co.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/22/spy-shots-2010-volkswagen-robust-pickup-caught-wearing-its-own/">Spy Shots: 2010 Volkswagen Robust pickup caught wearing its own sheetmetal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 22 Apr 2008 12:56:00 EST. While the name is still unconfirmed, the pickup's front fascia is kind of a no-brainer. Expect VW to port over its corporate mug, complete with gaping maw, shallow air dam and headlamps that add a bit more sport to the Touareg's sedate lenses.<br /><br />When the Robust goes on sale in 2010 it's likely to be available in both two- and four-door versions, powered by a slew of new common-rail diesel engines and possibly a gasoline-powered V6. Two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants are a distinct possibility, but some version of the Robust coming Stateside is unlikely.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2010/vw/robust/rendering/robust-pickup.html">Pickuptruck.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/26/rendered-speculation-volkswagen-robust-pickup/">Rendered Speculation: Volkswagen Robust pickup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 13:28:00 EST. That's an official VW render of the company's new pickup, internally called the Robust. It's hanging at an event called ExpoAgro in Argentina, where the truck will be built. The banner on the left says "The VW pickup for the field." VW isn't playing around with the model, either, having invested a billion pesos into its Pacheco factory to get ready for the vehicle's 2009 or 2010 launch.<br /><br />The render presents a neat profile that looks low to the ground -- more ute than pickup really, much like the VW Rabbit pickup from almost three decades ago. We do find the rear sloping roof a bit odd, seeing that it would eat into quite a bit of bed space if the line continued into the bed. But it's just a render, so we don't want to read too much into it. With carmakers putting <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/video-ed-welburn-says-camaro-interior-to-be-better-than-concept/">fake interiors in test mules</a> nowadays, for all we know, the Robust render could also be a hat, or a brooch, or a pterodactyl. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://argentinaautoblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/primicia-mundial-primer-boceto-de-la.html">Argentina Auto Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/hecha-en-argentina-first-official-drawing-of-vws-new-pickup/">Hecha en Argentina: First official drawing of VW's new pickup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 16:29:00 EST. No, according to <a href="http://www.thecarconnection.com/blog/?p=816">The Car Connection</a>, it's a Toyota Hilux body atop Volkswagen's upcoming Robust pickup. And before you VW fans get too excited, it is not intended for sale in the States. But truck shoppers in South America and Africa will be able to choose between a V6 or common rail diesel in both 2WD and 4WD versions. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thecarconnection.com/blog/?p=816">The Car Connection</a> via <a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2008/02/vw-robust-spy-shots.html">The German Car Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/20/spy-shots-2010-vw-robust-pickup/">Spy Shots: 2010 VW Robust pickup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 11:31:00 EST.
