While we generally spend most of our time at SEMA walking through the halls of the convention center, there's some pretty impressive cars outside, as well. Take this wild 1944 Mack fire truck, for example.

Built by Tom Stark of Precision Designs, the truck has been fitted with a 2005 Viper SRT10 V10 engine mated to a Dodge 48RE automatic transmission. The stock Mack axle remains up front, but the rear suspension and axle from a 2008 Ram truck resides out back. Other features include Dodge Ram SRT10 brakes, 24-inch American Force wheels and custom leather seating.

Lest you think this is just a show truck, Stark tells us that the owner plans to actually drive the thing. He is even going to make the trek from his home in Kansas City to the Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, Ohio come July.

You can see the Viper-powered 1944 Mack fire truck in detail in the gallery above.
Viper-powered 1944 Mack fire truck is one wild ride originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 20:00:00 EST.
Red Letter Dodge, the official Dodge blog, has an oh-so-short clip of a Viper-engined 300C doing a circle in a parking lot. Not a donut, mind you, just an out-and-back. The video itself is rather underwhelming, so don't say you weren't warned, but since it comes from an official outlet, we have to imagine that there'll be something far more compelling soon enough. For now, to get a taste of what a 300C hiding a Viper V10 looks and sounds like, check the vid after the jump.

UPDATE: And all that speculation (and hope) was for nought: reader Viper GTS-R wrote to let us know that the car was a project out of Florida and is nothing official. It is a manual transmission and Viper GTS-R also guesses that the engine came from a Ram truck, not the snake. Thanks for the tip, Viper GTS-R

Legendary Motorcar Company built a Super 'Cuda for SEMA - no, not with a modern Dodge Challenger, with an actual Barricuda - and then decided to find out what it could do. The car is stuffed with engine and rubber: A twin-turbo Viper V10 with at least 1,000 horsepower, along with 345-series, 19-inch tires in back. So about the only place they could test it properly was Chrysler's Chelsea, Michigan proving grounds. For good measure, the folks at LMC brought a Ferrari Enzo along as well.

Needless to say, in a straight line drag, the Super 'Cuda owns the Enzo. The green monster and its turbine howls raced through the air so quickly that the windshield molding came off and the hood lifted by three inches. When it came to top speed, however - and in all likelihood, real-life cornering- the Enzo took the round, going 218 mph to the 'Cuda's 208 mph. The 'Cuda probably could have gone faster, but vintage aerodynamics and driver heebie-jeebies put paid to that. Get all the action in the video after the jump. Thanks for the tips, everyone!

Proving that there's more than one way to shoehorn a massive 8.0-liter Viper V10 engine into a motorcycle is a certain Allen Millyard from the United Kingdom. We sorta prefer the industrial brute force look of the original Dodge Tomahawk with its unconventional suspension systems and leaning four-wheeled design, but Millyard's creation is unarguably truer to the established motorcycle ethos - two wheels, a powerful engine and not much else.

Predictably, Millyard's creation features one of the longest motorcycle wheelbases in recent memory, though there's little way to avoid that with ten giant cylinders hung between the two contact patches. It could be argued that you don't really need any gimmicks when packing 500 raging horses into such a light machine, and that's probably true. Still, we're thinking the next logical step for this insane motorcycle should include a couple of turbochargers and a quick shot of nitrous... and maybe a sidecar. Click past the break for a couple of videos (*NOTE: Second vid is sans audio).

[Source: Motorcycle News]
Continue reading VIDEO: Millyard Viper V10 - One more way to <strike>kill yourself quick</strike> stick a honkin' engine on two wheels

VIDEO: Millyard Viper V10 - One more way to <strike>kill yourself quick</strike> stick a honkin' engine on two wheels originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 16:59:00 EST. Dodge Viper SRT-10 - Click above for high-res image gallery

Way back in 1987, Chrysler bought up a troubled Lamborghini, and within two years put it to work developing a V10 engine program that would eventually give birth to both the Dodge Viper and the Lamborghini Gallardo - two of the first ten-cylinder engines on the modern market. Two decades later, the tables have turned: instead of buying up struggling Italian automakers, it's Chrysler that's troubled and the Italians are coming to the rescue. And now reports suggest that the replacement for the Viper's V10 could be derived from Ferrari's next-generation engine program.

Chrysler's original plan was to sell of the Viper business, but since no serious offers came through, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is reportedly keen on taking advantage of the sportscar's standing as the company's halo vehicle. But rather than have Chrysler shoulder the entire burden of developing the next-generation Viper, the engine program could be derived from the same modular powerplant that will propel upcoming Ferraris and Maseratis.

Ferrari has essentially had four engine designs in its history: the Colombo design was in use from the company's beginnings all the way through the '90s. The Lampredi engine was used on a handful of vehicles in the 50's before being phased out. The Dino engine spawned V6, V8 and V12 versions and was in use until just a few years ago, while the current Ferrari/Maserati engine powers everything in the both companies' current ranges as well as the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Its 90-degree replacement will likewise offer variable configurations: a flat-plane crank V8 for Ferrari, a cross-plane crank for Maserati and a pushrod V10 for the Viper.

We love Ford Mustangs of all shapes and sizes, and the age-old adage of "the more power the better" definitely applies. Scott Vanderschoor, a regular on Bang Shift forums, is working on one hell of a pony car; one that carries the panache of a 'Stang and the power of a Dodge Viper - with a pair of turbochargers providing a little additional motivation. Unsurprisingly, Vanderschoor reportedly needed to move back the firewall a half foot to make room for the massive 8.4L V10 engine, but we're guessing the labor will pay off with some absolutely incredible power numbers.

Hit the jump to see Vanderschoor's big beast as it turns over on camera for the first time. The sound is a bit different than you'd expect from a typical Mustang V8 growl and we're guessing that it has a little more oomph under the hood than most pony cars on the road - even before Vanderschoor tuning gets sorted out. This is one Mustang project we're looking forward to seeing more of!
I'm a sucker for restomods as well as anything with the Viper V10, so this two-tone 1970 Challenger in the Dodge display was right up my Mopar alley. Built by Delaney Auto Designs of Shreveport, LA, this modified Mopar features a Mopar Performance V10 crate engine pumping out 585 horsepower mated to a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. An independent rear suspension is also sourced from the Viper, and brakes have been upgraded to Wilwood front and rear discs. Paint was done by PPG and is a mix of Dodge SRT8 black and Lamborghini yellow. Click on the gallery link to view high resolution shots from the show floor.
