Not just any house, mind you - that'd be like a Greenie stripped of their Starbucks intravenous drip, Livestrong bracelet, and Macintosh laptop. If it's backwood rancher/Eagle Scout that you're looking to portray, no domicile will do better than a log cabin. Of course, while the outside says 1885, modern log cabins are a luxury item commonly purchased as a weekend home for the well-heeled, or as a retirement home. Canada-based Pioneer Log Homes has just launched a UK branch, and customers that purchase a model called "The Anchorage" will be rewarded with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited left in the drive when construction's done.

The two products definitely go together. Both the home and the 4-wheeler look like they could've been hewn with the same axe, offering a certain rugged charm. We like the idea, mainly because a vacation home is a delightful aspiration, as is a Wrangler. Pioneer says you don't have to be a millionaire to afford one of their homes, with a starting point of £650 per square meter. Let's see, multiply by two, divide by nine, hot damn - that's actually not terrible! At today's exchange rate, that square meter cost works out to about $150 per square foot. You could always turn around and sell the Jeep to pay down the mortgage.

press release after the jump

[Source: Pioneer Log Homes]
Continue reading Thanks for the massive debt, here's a Jeep: Buy a log cabin, get a Wrangler

Thanks for the massive debt, here's a Jeep: Buy a log cabin, get a Wrangler originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 25 Jul 2007 09:01:00 EST.
DaimlerChrysler clearly spent big this year at the Detroit show. The Mercedes-Benz "cars on ice" display was impressive, but the Jeep's presence was even more so. In addition to the trippy waterfall - we swear, it was making shapes - the neo-Flinstones display had a new Wrangler Unlimited mounted on the side of a big faux-rock tower. You look up and think, "whoa, there's a Jeep up there", but for those left wondering how they did it, this brief two-and-a-half-minute video shows the inside story. Not as simple as you might think.

Starting tomorrow (Monday, September 18), Jeep will air five new TV spots. The first clip to surface is this crazy "Lizard" ad, which shows a lizard in the desert, puffing up to challenge an old Wrangler. The Wrangler puffs up even bigger, scares off the lizard and settles down to the shape of the new Wrangler.

The ad reminds us of Jurassic Park, where a Jeep faced off against a similar lizard. Dennis Nedry (played by Wayne Knight, "Newman" from Seinfeld) only wishes his Jeep had stood its ground the same way.

The four other ads will feature two gorillas grooming, a bird hunting for bugs, an insect-like Wrangler rock-crawler and a hip-hop urban spot.

Not only is the new Wrangler as capable as ever, it's also less expensive and has more content than the Wrangler it replaces. As part of Chrysler's effort to bring the vehicle's MSRP down closer to its actual transaction price (thus eliminating troublesome incentives), the Wrangler starts at just $18,765, down $285 from the 2006 model and with $1,715 in more content. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon drops an even more impressive $1,840 while gaining $1,255 in content. Across the lineup, the average Wrangler price drop averages out to around $1,200, and the all-new Wrangler Unlimited 4x4 four-door is just a few grand up from the base two door at $20,410.

Chrysler boasts that more content than ever comes standard, including a much needed engine upgrade thanks to the new 202-hp, 3.8L V6; Jeep's electronic stability program (ESP); Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM); anti-lock brakes; and multiple door and top configurations.

Jeep's official unearthing of the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited left us wondering how long one needs to bury a standardtwo-door Wrangler before it up and sprouts a second set of doors. Alas, that question went unanswered. Whatwas made clear is that a high-pressure fire hose is an effective means of extracting a buried SUV, andthat if Jeep's PR folks are handing out plastic ponchos, it's wise to accept one.

While we thought that the full doors (shown in Jeep's official press release) appear a bit awkward when thetop is removed, the half doors (shown in pics after the jump) definitely look to be the hot ticket for toplessmotoring.

Jeep has released a spate of photos of its new 2007 Wrangler Unlimited four-door, which we should be seeing in themetal within a few hours here in New York. The Unlimited boasts the same modular-style removable top that engenders alot of added flexibility, functioning as a t-top of sorts, a targa, and full-blown, wind-in-the-hair convertible. Besure to click on the jump for more views inside and out, and click on each image for suitable-for-framingimagery.
