<br />
The driver who <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/04/video-why-you-should-never-follow-other-cars-too-closely/">very nearly filmed her own death</a> has been interviewed by NBC's Today Show after video of her shocking road debris accident went viral. Wendy Cobb of Shelby, North Carolina was driving on April 1 when the accident happened.<br />
<br />
Cobb says she was using her cameraphone to film two trucks who were holding up traffic so she could report the incident. As Cobb turned her phone toward the road in front of her, the truck and trailer in front of her kicked up a 2x4 lying in the road that shattered the windshield of her <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sedona">Kia Sedona</a> minivan and very nearly impaled her. Luckily, Ms. Cobb's children weren't with her when the accident happened, or the results may have been far more tragic. According Cobb, the only injury she received was a tiny glass cut. Damage to her car was limited to the hood and windshield.<br />
<br />
Cobb says she hasn't watched the video since the day of the accident, but has received plenty of emails from people who still think it was an April Fool's prank - check out the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/05/video-driver-of-shocking-road-debris-accident-interviewed-by-nb/#continued">after the jump</a>. <em>Thanks for the tip, Adam!</em><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Just how clean are rental cars? - Click above to watch the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/04/video-hyperbolic-report-compares-rental-cars-to-public-restroom/#continued">after the jump</a></small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Rental cars don't have easy lives. They can be abused and flogged by nearly anyone who wants one, and most of the people who drive these vehicles have the "it's not my car - who cares" mentality. However, a new study from the folks at <em>The Today Show</em> takes a deeper look into the overall cleanliness of these vehicles, pointing out some really interesting facts about the levels of bacteria found on the most commonly touched surfaces (steering wheel, gear shift, door handles, etc.).<br />
<br />
The results are slightly shocking, and true as they may be, we find it a little odd that the reporters have compared the sanitary levels of these cars to that of a public restroom. We'll agree that it's absolutely unacceptable to find food crumbs, sticky messes, and even vomit (yes, vomit) in a ready-for-duty rental car, but we must remember that sharing germs is an inherit risk when you use anything that's moved around to hundreds of people each year. It's an interesting study nonetheless, and you can see the full details for yourself by watching the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/04/video-hyperbolic-report-compares-rental-cars-to-public-restroom/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br />

<br />
Right after <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a> officially <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/01/toyotas-remedy-for-recalled-pedals-announced/">announced a remedy</a> for its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/toyota+recall">sticking accelerator pedals</a> this morning, company President and COO Jim Lentz could be seen on television sitting across from Matt Lauer on NBC's popular <a href="http://today.msnbc.msn.com/">Today Show</a>. While Lauer isn't typically a hard-hitting interviewer (Is he? We don't regularly watch the show, but <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_in_the_World_is_Matt_Lauer%3F">"Where in the World is Matt Lauer?"</a> has us thinking he's no Edward R. Murrow), he does kick things off by asking Lentz if he can guarantee one particular Toyota customer whose car has already experienced sudden unintended acceleration that her car will be safe. From there, Lentz gives the answers you'd expect any exec under siege to give, which is to say we don't learn much that we don't already know. Lentz does say that "...we're confident that... between those two things [the floormat and pedal recalls], this will be under control." <br />
<br />
He also claims that the first time Toyota became aware of sticking pedals in its vehicles, or at least the first time that the company could duplicate the sticking pedal problem, was October of last year. Like a good interviewer, Lauer brings up the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/24/la-times-details-toyota-history-of-concealing-safety-issues/">Los Angeles Times article</a> that contends Toyota knew about the issue long before then. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/01/video-matt-lauer-interviews-toyota-pres-jim-lentz-on-today-sho/#continued">Follow the jump</a> to see how Lentz reacts.<br />

Welburn previewing the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>'s coming attractions, including the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/detroit-preview-2010-buick-lacrosse-breaks-cover/">Buick LaCrosse</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/30/gm-reports-10-000-camaro-pre-orders/">Chevrolet Camaro</a>. Most newsworthy, however, was the designer's willingness to pull back the sheet - albeit partially - on what looks to be a production-bound version of 2007's Chevrolet Beat concept. Welburn promised that the car would be unveiled at the show in Cobo, leading us to speculate that the Beat may come to the States after all. <span style="font-style: italic;">Check out the Beat concept's high-res gallery below, and video footage from the show <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/video-welburn-teases-naias-bound-production-chevy-beat-on-today/">after the jump</a>.</span><br style="font-style: italic;" /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept">New York Auto Show: 2007 Chevy Beat Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/0chevybeat_may07_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/0chevybeat_may07_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/0chevybeat_may07_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/0chevybeat_may07_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-auto-show-2007-chevy-beat-concept/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/0chevybeat_may07_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/28556043/#28557109">MSNBC</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/video-welburn-teases-naias-bound-production-chevy-beat-on-today/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Welburn teases NAIAS-bound production Chevy Beat on Today Show</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/video-welburn-teases-naias-bound-production-chevy-beat-on-today/">VIDEO: Welburn teases NAIAS-bound production Chevy Beat on Today Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 09:56:00 EST.
