If you've ever sunk a Saturday afternoon watching a Wheeler Dealers marathon on BBC America, we don't need to tell you the show is plenty addictive. A tag team salesman and mechanic snag slightly run-down cars and SUVs, fix a few simple problems and flip them for a profit in the UK.

Now it looks as if the Discovery Channel is set to unleash an Americanized version of the show. Fast N' Loud follows a shop as they seek out classic cars and trucks, customize them and work to sell them at a profit. It looks a bit like American Pickers met Pimp My Ride and Overhaulin in a bar bathroom and this is the fruit of their rendezvous.

We will, of course, tune in if for no other reason than the guys look to have gotten their hands on an early '50s Oldsmobile Coupe. That's one of our favorites. The show premiers on Wednesday, June 6 at 10 p.m. Eastern on the Discovery Channel. Scroll down to check out the teaser for yourself.
Continue reading Fast N' Loud is Wheeler Dealers, American style

Fast N' Loud is Wheeler Dealers, American style originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 23 May 2012 19:30:00 EST.
Speed TV's Dumbest Stuff on Wheels is coming back for a second season later this month, and in case you don't know what you're in for, they've put together a "Best Of" compilation from Season One. It's a simple concept, though: really bad ideas + wheels.

We're sympathetic toward the folks attempting trics, because after all, crashing is part of perfecting. But the guy riding his motorcycle through the waiting room? And the lass above, headed straight at the camera like Toonces the Driving Cat? Not gonna end well. Follow the jump for five minutes of tragic hilarity.
Continue reading Dumbest Stuff on Wheels compilation makes Season 1 reruns redundant

Dumbest Stuff on Wheels compilation makes Season 1 reruns redundant originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 17:35:00 EST.
The show's called India's Got Talent, and we're certainly prepared to say that India's got The Warriors of Goja but we're not sure if what they have is called talent, bravery or just plain crazy. The aforementioned warriors put on a lengthy display of what, in a circus, would be called 'amazing feats of strength' that includes breaking rocks on every part of their bodies with sledgehammers and eating florescent light bulbs.

Admittedly, most of this seven-minute long video doesn't have anything to do with cars, but then they bring out a Maruti Suzuki five-door and use a comrade to show tricks that, off the set, would probably be both illegal and fatal. And in the middle of the stunt, they randomly add a motorcycle to the mix. As said by the person who uploaded the video, "I have no words for this.. just AMAZING." That's about right. You'll find it all after the jump, the Maruti action starts at 2:40.
Continue reading Indian talent show goes overboard with Suzuki

Indian talent show goes overboard with Suzuki originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 19:13:00 EST. The premise has the show's two hosts, Tom Stuker and Roe Hubbard, swooping in with just five days to turn lackluster sales into a success story.

So far, the network has eight episodes planned under the tentative title "Car Lot Cowboy." Sure, the world needs another reality TV show like it needs more famine, but we'll reserve judgment until the show airs sometime next year. Still, something tells us this isn't likely to enjoy the same success as the interminable "Survivor" franchise.

Spike TV is an MTV property, and is responsible for such gems as "Deadliest Warrior," "Manswers" and "Repo Games." "Car Lot Cowboy" should fit right in.
Spike TV readying reality show about turning around car dealers originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 07:57:00 EST. The General Lee soared into our hearts 32 years ago today - Click above to watch video after the jump

On this very day in 1978, a stunt man on the set of new show called The Dukes of Hazzard made television history. Of course, he didn't know it at the time, but the sight of him soaring through the air would become an icon. Well... not him specifically, but the car he was driving. We can only imagine what that bright orange Dodge Charger sounded like as it roared to the dirt ramp before leaving the ground and touching down 82 feet later. It was totaled upon impact, but its legacy is still going strong three decades later.

The show debuted in 1979 and ran for 6 years. During that time, the General Lee (yes, the car) received 35,000 fan letters every single month. More than 300 Chargers were used over the course of the show, and most of them ended up trashed.

As you read these words, we know you can hear the first few plucks Waylon Jenning's guitar and picture the Duke boys evading capture to make their way the only way they know how. Stop imagining it and check out the video of the show's intro after the jump.
You know what TV producers love? Cheap, sensational content. That, incidentally, is the Internet's number one export. Marry the two and you have TLC's newest special: Out of Control Drivers. We'll let you guess what the show's about. If you're a viral video junkie, you've likely seen a lot of these - maybe all of them - already. Still, this is can't-avert-your-eyes stuff, as demonstrated in the two videos embedded after the jump.

The first promo is just a highlight-reel trailer for the show, designed to whet your overall appetite for vehicular mayhem. The second video is a full segment showing what happens when a sleeping driver takes an unplanned detour through a gas station. Spoiler alert: things get ugly. Fast.

Out of Control Drivers airs tomorrow night at 9 PM and 10 PM Eastern on TLC. We're certainly not about to skip True Blood to watch this, but we'll toss it in the DVR queue for future viewing. Hit the jump for the previews.
That's right, you can now catch Speed, Trixie, Spritle, Pops, and even Chim-Chim from the comfort of your own work cubicle.

Savvy followers of Speed Racer and the awesome Mach 5 will know that 52 episodes originally aired from 1967-1968 on U.S. television sets, meaning Hulu is only missing one (Episode 31, Part 1 of "Gang of Assassins"). All of the rest of the 24-minute episodes, plus the theme song, are on the site. So, what are you waiting for? Thanks for the tip Brenton!

[Source: Hulu]

Hulu adds 51 vintage episodes of Speed Racer originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 19 May 2009 08:05:00 EST.
Click above to watch episodes of Top Gear Russia

The Russians have succeeded where the Americans have failed: they got a local version of Top Gear on the air. It's got all the familiar elements: fast cars, oddball challenges, timed laps, beautiful shots, beautiful women, explosions, mayhem, and it's even got The Stig, who drives in Russian. Some suggest the versions without subtitles could be better than the versions with, if you aren't attuned to Russian humor. Check out the unsubtitled shows after the jump; if you don't speak Russian and you really have to know what's up, look here.

[Source: Final Gear]
Continue reading Top Gear Russia debuts, hide the women and vodka

Top Gear Russia debuts, hide the women and vodka originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 22 Mar 2009 17:26:00 EST. Cutting insight mixed with hilarious wit, drop-dead gorgeous imagery and a whole lot of fun and passion make it the perfect car show. When Top Gear does a Car Of The Year, we sit up and pay attention. They have yet to name the overall winner, but the category champions are in. While the only surprise we found was the Ford S-Max making the list as Best Big Car, the choices have a bunch of desirable iron not found on this side of the Atlantic. A couple of Citroens made it, as did the Land Rover LR2 - any of which we'd love to have over here, especially the Citroen C6. We're not sure we agree with every choice though - the Gallardo is the obvious choice as dream car, but we're pretty sure that means nightmares. Of course, the driving is grand, and they have Ferrari represented as well, so there's no shortage of Italian engine music, always a good thing.

Top Gear's COTY Awards... one we actually care about originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 13 Dec 2006 13:26:00 EST.
