Our sides were still hurting from the Bob Lutz interview on the Colbert Report when we read through the GM vice-chairman's thoughts on having appeared alongside the pseudo news anchor, whom he referred to as a "comic genius". We managed to stop laughing long enough to note of Lutz's recollection that Colbert had done a series of television commercials for the automaker's service division, Goodwrench. The ads were done just a few years ago, when Colbert was still on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart before he had his own program. They weren't bad, and we've got a couple of the clips after the jump for your entertainment.

Apple pie, baseball and Bob Lutz. It doesn't get much more American than that. So why did it take this long for Maximum Bob to appear on the Colbert Report, the most Lincolnishly patriotic show on television? Well the GM vice-chairman pulled up onto the set for last night's episode of the Comedy Central mainstay to talk about the new Chevy Volt.

Of course we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise any more than we already have, but if you missed Colbert last night, then just follow the jump to see Lutz actually at a loss for words (!) while he tries to explain why you can't drive a plug-in hybrid while it's actually plugged in.

As with all episodes of The Colbert Report, it will also be replayed several times tomorrow and we expect the segment to appear on Comedy Central's website, as well. We'll be watching it when it first airs this evening, though, and figured you might want a heads up in case you were planning on going to bed early. Suck it up, drink a Pepsi to stay awake to watch Maximum Bob try and get a big Colbert Bump for the 2011 Chevy Volt.

UPDATE: Just finished watching the segment. You can count Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert among the disgruntled, as he revealed on The Colbert Report this week that he'll have to wait months to replace his ratty 550 with 4,000 miles for a brand spanking new Lime Green 599 GTB Fiorano (with a platinum Jesush fish on the bumper, of course). Ever the schemer, Stephen announced he's willing to trade his spot on the kidney donor list to anyone at the front of the line to buy a Ferrari. Only Ferrari faithful with potential renal failure need apply.

Check out the clip from The Colbert Report after the jump in case you missed it.

[Source: Colbert Nation]
Continue reading Even Stephen Colbert has to wait for a Ferrari

Even Stephen Colbert has to wait for a Ferrari originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 16 May 2007 14:32:00 EST.

On last night's episode of the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert did something he doesn't often do: talk about sports. Turns out that fans of the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Junior Hockey League have it in for Colbert. After beating up on Stephen's team, the Saginaw Spirit, fans tossed teddy bears on the ice, a personal afront to Colbert who suffers from a well known case of bear-phobia. In retaliation, Colbert reminds the Oshawa fans that General Motors, whose Canadian HQ is located in their town and after which their team is named, is not doing so well in the market these days. In fact, he warns that they shouldn't get too cozy in that shiny new arena GM built for them, as it could be stripped for parts. In a not-so-subtle way, Colbert then provides his fans with a link to General Motors' Q3 Earnings Statement in PDF form on the Colbert Nation website. You know, just in case anyone happens to be at Saginaw's home game on January 26th and feels like tossing a copy on the ice when the Spirit stuff a puck down the Generals' throats. Behold people, this is the power of Colbert.

For those going to the game on the 26th, here's the link to the PDF file.
Stephen Colbert asks fans to toss GM's Q3 Earning Report originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:01:00 EST. Though most of us eagerly await the arrival of the Saturn Astra from Opel, there is one person in the galaxy who still holds the dear departed Ion close to his heart... Tek Jansen of Alpha Squad 7! If you're not familiar with Tek Jansen, then you don't watch the Colbert Report on Comedy Central and should therefore be chastised. A few days ago Stephen Colbert introduced Episode 5 of Stephen Colbert Presents: Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7 - Operation: Homecoming's Doorstep: Cat on a Luniharp, a Tek Jansen Adventure. Despite having deinduced the cardioid thrusters on the Bizlarnian Battle Wedge, Tek's only response to being fired upon by the enemy ship is, "Saturn Ion!" Seriously, I've laughed at this clip all day, which means either that I'm working too hard and have gone crazy or Stephen Colbert is a comedy genius.

[Source: ColbertNation]
VIDEO: Tek Jansen drives a Saturn Ion originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 09 Dec 2006 12:24:00 EST.
