If you were disappointed by reports that BMW was planning to retire the award-winning, high-revving V10 engine from the current M5 in favor of a twin-turbo V8, well...we can't really blame you. It's one heck of an engine, and we'll all miss it dearly. But all is not lost. The Bavarian automaker is hard at work on the next 5 Series, and with it the next-gen M5. And now spy video footage of the uber-sedan lapping the Nurburgring has surfaced.

With all the swirly camouflage, it's hard to tell much about the car's styling. You can expect it to follow the lead set by the new 5 Series Gran Turismo, though. But the engine - well, just follow the jump, watch the video and tell us if you're not hearing that telltale turbo whine. Thanks for the tip, Paul!
In this instance, one such reader-turned-paparazzo (apparently in Italy, no less) caught on video what appears to be some sort of Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake test mule.

Looking something like the product of a one-night-stand between said Porsche and either a Volvo C30 or an original BMW Z3-based M Coupe, the supposed mule is wearing all black, but apart from that, it appears to be undisguised. Of course, this could be a one-off made by someone with no official connection to Porsche (Rinspeed, anyone?), but then again, it could be a harbinger of a model to come. What do you make of it?

Catching a glimpse inside Ferrari's top-secret Fiorano test track in Maranello is a rare treat. Catching a developmental test mule for an upcoming supercar on video is another matter entirely. But as Ferrari prepares for the anticipated debut of the successor to its F430, the proverbial cat was bound to leap out of the bag.

You'll find the full video after the jump, where you'll be able to discern a few key differences between this and the F430 it replaces. We won't speculate on the cosmetics, as those will all have changed by the time the veil is lifted in Frankfurt, but there are a few mechanical giveaways worth noting. The big air intakes protruding from the rear end, along with the larger exhaust pipes, should help the enlarged, direct-injection V8 eclipse even the 430 Scuderia's 520-horsepower output. A redline approaching 10,000 rpm should also help the cause, which could be managed by the California's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to replace the F1-style robotized manual. Follow the jump to watch the footage for yourself.

[Source: World Car Fans]
Continue reading VIDEO: Ferrari F450 test mule caught in two-minute spy footage

VIDEO: Ferrari F450 test mule caught in two-minute spy footage originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 16:56:00 EST. It was accompanied by a Jaguar XJ mule and shepherded by a fleet of Land Rovers charged with blocking the all-seeing eye of someone's Sony Handycam. Fortunately for us, they failed. The driver of this particular prototype XF-R couldn't keep his foot off the throttle, as at different points in the video you hear the growl of a big displacement V8 and the accompanying scream of a supercharger. Other than vents in the hood to let that 5-liter V8 breathe, the body modifications look to be exceptionally tame. With 500 horsepower, however, its acceleration should be quite the opposite. Follow the jump to check out the video.

[Source: YouTube via Carscoop]
Continue reading Spy Video: Jaguar XF-R caught on tape

Spy Video: Jaguar XF-R caught on tape originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 18:01:00 EST. Our new friend Ryen was able to briefly catch a cloaked mule on highway 60, leading through Phoenix, Arizona yesterday, and although the video after the jump is brief, the VQ37HR-powered coupe does look a bit shorter than its predecessor, lending credence to the rumors we've heard since 2007.

As reported previously, the 370Z will be powered by the same 3.7-liter V6 found in the Infiniti G37, so output should be up and over 330 hp, with torque cresting the 270 lb.-ft. mark. The new Z will be shortened by five to seven inches, losing about 220 pounds in the process.

Hit the jump to view the video and check out BestCar's recreation here.

Gallery: Nissan 370Z teasers

Continue reading Spy VIDEO: Nissan 370Z caught in Arizona

Spy VIDEO: Nissan 370Z caught in Arizona originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 12:29:00 EST.
Sound the alarm and turn up your speakers - Ferrari has a security breach. Someone managed to get a good vantage point with a video camera over the company's private Fiorano test track in Maranello and caught the oft-photographed test mule of the upcoming new Ferrari model lapping the track at full throttle.

Known internally as project F149 and alternatively referred to externally as the Dino or GT California, the new model is expected to feature four seats and a retractable hard top. Although rumor has it that Maserati may be delegated the assembly (including the 4.7-liter V8 it makes for the GranTurismo S and Alfa 8C), this beast sounds every bit like a purebred stallion. Follow the jump to see for yourself.

It's deliciously ironic that the spotters were rolling a Mustang when they were strafed by a bestriped mule in white. It looks good out in the wild, intimidating, even - quite appropriate for a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs. For most production cars from major manufacturers, one of the inevitable stops along the way is California's Death Valley for hot weather testing, and the Scirocco's no different in that regard.

It's been caught on video going through its paces in the desert valley over at Auto Motor und Sport. Propulsion for the Scirocco will come from a range of engines starting with a 115hp FSI four-cylinder to a 250 hp VR6, with prices starting at 25,000 Euro. You can catch the video over at the Auto Motor und Sport website.

[Source: Auto Motor und Sport]
Spy Video: VW Scirocco takes to the heat of Death Valley originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 10 Sep 2007 15:05:00 EST. Well, the spy shot Gods have blessed the offices of Inside Line with footage of the GT-R in motion and although we can't embed it in this post, you can click here for the full vid.

Two interesting tid bits are brought up in the video and accompanying text: First, the new Turbo 911 playing chase car is a clear indicator of what class of vehicle the GT-R hopes to compete and second, the shots of the GT-R accelerating from a standstill reveals that this current mule is equipped with some form of automatic tranny.

Click on for the full sensory GT-R experience!

[Source: Inside Line]

Related Posts:
