<br />
Recently, we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/19/choices-nissan-gt-r-or-ford-mustang-gt500/">ran a little poll</a> in which we asked which car would you prefer: A <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/gt+r">Nissan GT-R</a> or a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/06/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-1-living-on-the-liv/">Ford Shelby Mustang GT500</a>? The results - which aren't too surprising - had just over two thirds of you rooting and tooting for Godzilla. And that's all fine. However, someone pointed out that the contest should have been between Godzilla and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/08/first-drive-2010-shelby-super-snake-as-good-as-a-ford-mustang-g/">new Shelby Super Snake</a>. Well guess what?<br />
<br />
Thankfully, <em>Motor Trend</em> has totally obliged you. In this video, the 412-horsepower and 393 pound-feet of torque (at the wheels, people, at the wheels) Nissan GT-R takes on the 635 hp and 581 lb-ft of torque Shelby GT500 Super Snake do the quarter-mile. The results? We're going to make you jump to find out, but we aren't surprised. At all. But then again, we've driven both cars (in fact, this appears to be the exact <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/27/review-2010-nissan-gt-r-does-godzilla-have-a-soul/">2010 GT-R we drove</a>). We will however say hats off to our buddy Ed Loh at MT for making such a fun video. Click here to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/07/video-godzilla-vs-super-snake-mt-pits-nissan-vs-shelby-in-am/#continued">watch it</a>. <em>Thanks to Pete for the tip!</em><br />

<em><strong><small>Classic Recreations Shelby GT500CR - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Earlier this month during SEMA, Oklahoma-based Classic Recreations announced that it had scored a licensing deal with Carroll Shelby to build a continuation version of the legendary Shelby Mustang GT500. At the time of the announcement, we didn't know much about the car, aptly named the GT500CR, except that each would come with an official Shelby serial number and be included in the Shelby Worldwide Registry. <br />
<br />
However, thanks to new information recently released by Classic Recreations, we now have the preliminary details for the GT500CR. Three separate models will be available, starting with an Intro model that comes standard with a 427ci V8, 150-hp nitrous system, upgraded suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, Tremec five-speed manual transmission, Baer brakes, and more. One step up from that is the Performance package that also gets items like upgraded seats, larger rear wheels, and a coilover suspension system. At the top of the range is the Venom model, featuring an intercooled supercharger system that boosts the V8 to 780 horsepower, along with other performance upgrades. More details about the GT500CR can be found in Classic Recreation's press release posted after the jump, and we've included the original renderings of the car in the gallery below in case you missed them the first time around.<br />

<br />
A few months back we were lucky enough to roll around in a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NissanGTR/">2010 Nissan GT-R</a>. On our way up to a pre-burnt <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/07/another-station-fire-bummer-angeles-crest-highway-closed-indefi/">Angeles Crest Highway</a> for the now infamous <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/27/jonny-lieberman-joins-the-autoblog-crew/">flip-flop-gate</a> photoshoot, yours truly began explaining to our intrepid photographer Drew Phillips just exactly how Nissan's latest and greatest is faster than a speeding Gallardo, more powerful than a F430 and able to leap tall canyon roads without breaking a sweat. And on and on and on. When I finally shut up, Drew asked me, "Would you take a GT-R over a GT500?" Whoa...<br />

Here's one we've been hearing rumors about for quite a while - an EcoBoosted V8 Mustang. Put another way, a twin-turbo, direct-injected, V8 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ShelbyGT500/">Shelby GT500</a>. The first rumor we heard was about a twin-turbo 50th Anniversary Edition 2014 1/2 Mustang, which would be the very definition of the word "Sweet!" We asked about this mythical car point blank to several fairly high-ranking Ford execs, only to be stared back at in silence. Although one dude - who shall remain nameless - did crack a knowing smile and asked, "Who told you that?" <br />
<br />
Regardless of our shoddy scooping, <a href="http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2009/11/could-an-ecoboost-shelby-mustang-be-coming/">The Detroit Bureau's Paul Eisenstein</a> is now claiming that according to several unnamed sources, Ford is considering such a beast of an engine. Good idea? We think so. Not that there's much wrong with the GT500's current supercharged 5.4-liter monster, especially as it's pretty underrated at 540 hp. But it is a little long in the tooth being essentially a ten-year-old Ford GT power plant with a couple of changes. Not that current GT500 owners care, but at full clip, the Shelby gets... how to put this kindly... abso-fricking-lutely abysmal mileage. <br />
<br />
We also know that while the current <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/taurus+sho">Taurus SHO</a>'s EcoBoost V6 makes an impressive 365 ponies, 600 horsepower is there for the asking (a little tuning, sure, but the engine can do it). With that in mind, can you even imagine the levels of sound and fury a twin-turbo V8 could unleash? Eisenstein doesn't mention it, but Ford wouldn't be slapping turbos on the old 5.4-liter or the older 4.6-liter modular engine. The EcoBoosting would be applied to the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/coyote+v8/">5.0-liter Coyote V8</a>. When General Motors introduced LS3 V8 a few years back, it was noted by many that the intake manifold looked suspiciously like it was designed with forced induction in mind. We've heard similar rumors about the Coyote. <br />

<br />
In the Ford booth at SEMA this year, we spotted a matching set of 1967 and 2010 Shelby GT500 Mustangs. White with blue stripes, they looked incredible even in the unflattering lighting of Central Hall. The 1967 example is a verified Shelby original, number 3139 in the Shelby Registry. The 2010 GT is a one-of-a-kind special edition done up in the same Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes as the old-timer. It has been dubbed the Patriot Edition and features a host of aftermarket changes that make it more closely match its ancestor.<br />
<br />
While stopping to check them out we noticed a big sign nearby, telling us they could both be ours. Apparently, this duo is being raffled off to raise funds for the Healing Heroes Network, a charity that benefits injured Veterans. So buying a ticket or 10 is a chance to win these fantastic Shelbys, <em>and</em> support a worthy cause. Sounds like an easy decision to us. If you'd like to donate, buy tickets, or just find out more about the cars, the charity and the auction, check out this <a href="http://winthemustangs.com/">website</a>.<br />

<br />
Yes friends, that Shelby. As in Carroll Shelby. And the racing, muscle car building legend has agreed to permit <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ClassicRestorations/">Classic Recreations</a> to relaunch a continuation version of one of America's most iconic performance cars, the 1967-68 Shelby GT500 Mustang. Before we get too much further, allow us to remind you that Classic Recreations is the shop behind <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/19/eleanor-1967-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-review/">Eleanor</a>, the car that prompted our own Jonathon Ramsey to comment, "Eleanor is the hottest piece of car we've spent a weekend with in quite some time." Trust us, that's high praise.<br />
<br />
Details and exact specifications are, well, <em>fuzzy</em> for the time being. But rest easy, as Classic Recreations owner Jason Engal claims, It retains the most iconic Shelby elements everyone loves with modern performance and supercar level horsepower." As Eleanor puts out anywhere between 535 and 770 horsepower, you can expect the GT500CR to do at least that. Maybe more important to Shelby fans is that each car, "[W]ill leave the shop with an official Shelby serial number, badges and will be included in the official Shelby Worldwide Registry." This of course includes Carroll's all-important signature on the rocker panel. More when we know more.<br />
<br />
<strong><em>Update</em></strong><em>: It's official. Release posted after the jump.</em><br />

Last year, the winner was given the title of "Best Handling Car," though this year they are switching the name to "Best Driver's Car." That works. <br /> <br /> Without getting too much into the metrics they used (it's an <em>eighteen page</em> article), <em>MT</em> went with a combination of outright speed, braking performance, lateral acceleration data and subjective seat of the pants driving impressions (plus Pobst's excellent feedback) to rank all ten cars in order. Without giving away the winner, we will say that we enthusiastically agree with their findings. <br /> <br /> Cases in point: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ChevyCamaroSS/">Chevy Camaro SS</a> is dead last. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/BMW135i/">BMW 135i</a> is second to dead last. The world-beating <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/CorvetteZR1/">Corvette ZR1</a> ends up one place <em>behind</em> the truly superlative <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ShelbyGT500/">Shelby GT500</a> and the uber 'Stang isn't even the top American car. Meanwhile, the plucky little <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MazdaMX5Miata/">Mazda MX-5 Miata</a> finishes higher up than all the cars we just mentioned -- including the mystery Yank tank. In fact, the only gripe we have is that last year's third place car -- the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MazdaRX8R3/">Mazda RX-8 R3</a> - wasn't brought back for a second go round. No one's perfect. That said, you should consider this article a must read. <strong> <br /></strong>We already know the 2010 Shelby GT500 is incredibly quick. In our initial performance test of the car, we ripped off a 12.9 second pass despite our lack of drag racing experience, a slippery track and a stiff headwind. With an experienced driver and prime conditions we have no doubt that Shelby's latest muscle car can break into the 11's. At the time, we thought to ourselves that the car's 540 horsepower number was probably underrated, and it turns out we were spot on. <br /><br />While we haven't had the chance (yet) to strap a new GT500 to a dyno, <em>5.0 Mustang &amp; Super Fords</em> jumped at the chance as soon as they had one in their possession. The results didn't surprise us: 478.53 horsepower and 470.43 lb-ft torque at the rear wheels on a hot and muggy day in Florida. Much can be argued about exactly how much power is transferred from the flywheel to the back rubber, but the traditional calculation of a 15% loss puts the GT500 at over 560 bhp. Interestingly, it's still quite a bit less than the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/16/gt500kr-underrated-5-0-mustang-magazine-dyno-tests-the-king-of/4">Shelby GT500KR that 5.0 tested last year</a> despite the same official power rating. Even so, we're happy that Ford is now underrating their pony cars and preventing power-rating debacles like the one the SVT Cobra created back in 1999.<strong><br /><br /></strong><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/">First Drive: 2010 Ford Shelby GT500, Part 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010shelbygt500fdp2_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010shelbygt500fdp2_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010shelbygt500fdp2_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010shelbygt500fdp2_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/first-drive-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-part-2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/2010shelbygt500fdp2_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.mustang50magazine.com/6563529/miscellaneous/strapping-the-latest-shelby-to-the-rollers/index.html">5.0 Mustang &amp; Super Fords</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/08/dyno-tested-2010-shelby-gt500-lives-up-to-540-horsepower-rating/">Dyno Tested: 2010 Shelby GT500 lives up to 540 horsepower rating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 08 Aug 2009 14:07:00 EST. <br />Coinciding with the 35th Annual Ford and Team Shelby Nationals in Tulsa, OK, Shelby Automobiles has released a barrage of new models including a 2010 version of the GT500 Super Snake (above). Most of the models are based on the previous generation Mustang, either the Mustang GT, Shelby GT or GT500 that current owners can bring to Shelby to be modified. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/2109795/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr000_opt.jpg" class="right border" alt="" /></a>First up is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108961/">Shelby GT/SC</a>, basically a Shelby GT with a supercharger, upgraded brakes and triple gauges on the dash. Next is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108965/">Shelby GT/SR</a> (right), which is essentially a GT/SC model fitted with additional equipment for racing like BFGoodrich R compound tires, a one-piece aluminum driveshaft, front brake duct kit and an adjustable suspension.<br /><br />If you want to Shelbify your regular Mustang GT, you can opt for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108969/">SuperCharged package</a> that includes a supercharger, upgrades brakes, suspension and exhaust, 18-inch tires and more. You can also spec out your Mustang to SR spec, which adds similar upgrades to the GT/SR model. <br /><br />Have a GT500 that needs more Shelby stuff on it? You can now go with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108975/">GT500SE</a> (Special Edition) package that includes a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels and hood grille inserts, Ford Racing suspension, Borla exhaust, 20-inch wheels and tires, and more. And what if your GT500 is a 2010 model? Well, Shelby is now offering their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108952/">Super Snake package</a> for the latest GT500 that, among other things, offers a 725-horsepower supercharger upgrade.<br /><br />Overwhelmed? So are we, but follow the jump to dig through all the upgrades and information for each vehicle. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/">2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/">2010 Shelby GT/SR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/">New Shelby models for 2009</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbygtsc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Shelby GT/SC" title="Shelby GT/SC" /></a></div><br />[Source: Shelby]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/shelby-unveils-six-new-models-including-2010-gt500-super-snake/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby unveils six new models including 2010 GT500 Super Snake</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/shelby-unveils-six-new-models-including-2010-gt500-super-snake/">Shelby unveils six new models including 2010 GT500 Super Snake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 11:28:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Shelby GT500 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Ford has managed to eke out an extra 2 miles per gallon on the highway from the heavily revised <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010ShelbyGt500/">2010 Shelby GT500</a>, bringing its EPA estimated figures to 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Sure, it seems rather unlikely that buyers considering a muscle car will be all that concerned with fuel economy, but we'll take what we can get, especially since the fuel economy increase is accompanied by a bump up to 540 horsepower and a stump-pulling 510 lb-ft of torque. Plus, an increase in highway mileage means fewer stops on long trips, and that's always welcome in our book.<br /><br />Now, all of this is fine and dandy, but we all know the real reason this car exists is to obliterate its tires on every 4.3-second blast to 60 mph. Fortunately for fans of ridiculous straight-line acceleration, the revisions that make the latest Shelby more fuel efficient also also end up contributing to its ability to accelerate. The biggest change that helps on the highway is numerically lower gearing in the transmission for the fifth and sixth cogs, which, combined with a 3.55:1 axle ratio, allows the baddest 'Stang to boast improved acceleration in the first four gears to go along with the lowered RPM highway drone made possible by the last two gears.<br /><br />Ford also points to a refined air intake and a revised twin-disc clutch as reasons that the 2010 Shelby GT500 is a step above its predecessor, and we also took note of the vastly superior interior that's standard in all new Mustangs when we last looked at the GT500. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/">Click here</a> to read all about it, and click past the break for the mpg-touting press release.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/">Detroit 2009: 2010 Shelby GT500 Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/001_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/002_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/003_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/004_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/005_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ford]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-squeezes-out-an-extra-2-mpg/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Ford Shelby GT500 squeezes out an extra 2 MPG</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-squeezes-out-an-extra-2-mpg/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 squeezes out an extra 2 MPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 08:59:00 EST. Of course, how could we forget the sordid tale of a company building licensed replicas of the Shelby GT500 Eleanor featured in <em>Gone in 60 Seconds</em>, only to be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/unique-performance-raided-by-local-police/">shut down by the police</a> after its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/27/round-4-unique-performance-execs-face-25-felony-charges/">shady business practices</a> were uncovered before most cars were delivered. More than a few ex-customers that lost out on their prized vehicles surely haven't forgotten about the deposits they put down on the cars, and last year, a group <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/carroll-shelby-sued-by-unique-performance-customers/">sued Carroll Shelby</a> in an attempt to recoup their investments.<br /><br />To help smooth things over, Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc. has agreed to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/08/shelby-severing-ties-with-unique-performance/">new licensing agreement</a> with two auto shops in Texas so that the series of continuation GT500SE and GT350SR cars can be completed. Each finished vehicle will get an official serial number from Shelby along with inclusion into the Shelby Worldwide Registry. While the offer is being made royalty free, customers will still be required to pay for the completion of the cars.<br /><br />[Source: Carroll Shelby Licensing]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/shelby-okays-production-of-continuation-cars-for-former-unique/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby okays production of "continuation" cars for former Unique Performance customers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/shelby-okays-production-of-continuation-cars-for-former-unique/">Shelby okays production of "continuation" cars for former Unique Performance customers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:58:00 EST. <br />One of Ford's biggest buzz vehicles this auto show season has been the Mustang. From the debut of the redesigned <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mustang-officially-unveiled-live/">2010 model</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> last November to the reveal of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-the-shelby-gt500-arrives/">2010 Shelby GT500</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> last month, Ford has managed to steal back much of the muscle car spot light that's been occupied by the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro for the last couple of years. The 540-hp Shelby GT500 is the new reigning king of production Mustangs, and one person more than any other is responsible for its visual transformation from family friendly Mustang GT to I'll-eat-your-children-without-chewing Shelby GT500. His name is Rob Jensen, and he earns points from this peanut gallery for keeping <a href="http://robjensendesign.com/?cat=5">his own blog</a> at <a href="http://robjensendesign.com">RobJensenDesign.com</a>. Jensen recently sat down with our friends at <a href="http://www.idsketching.com">idsketching.com</a> for <a href="http://www.idsketching.com/2009/02/10/interview-rob-jensen-ford-design/">an interview</a> and revealed some salient details about the Mustang's design process, as well as offered advice for budding industrial designers. He also handed over a digital stack of early GT500 sketches that shows the design's gestation from a unique perspective. Check out the whole batch in our <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/1355483/">high-res gallery</a> and let us know if you think that the GT500 unveiled in Detroit was the right one.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 design sketches</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/003_gt500sketches_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/002_gt500sketches_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/004_gt500sketches_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/005_gt500sketches_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-design-sketches/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/006_gt500sketches_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.idsketching.com/2009/02/10/interview-rob-jensen-ford-design/">idsketching</a>, <a href="http://robjensendesign.com">robjensendesign</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/13/gestation-of-a-gt500-lead-designer-shares-early-sketches/">Gestation of a GT500: Lead designer shares early sketches </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 12:31:00 EST. <br />Tonight at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California, Carroll Shelby and Co. unveiled what is by far the most radical Mustang ever built for the street. Named after Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, who drove a top fuel car for Shelby in the 1968 season, the new Shelby features a 750 horsepower (over 800 on race fuel) version of the GT500's 5.4-liter V8 thanks to an upgraded Kenne Bell supercharger. <br /><br />Other modifications include a custom fiberglass full tilt front end, a Shelby rear drag wing, eight-point roll cage, six-piston front brakes, rear seat delete, coilover springs, custom Bogart wheels, and much more. Did we mention it's STREET LEGAL? Pricing comes in at a stout $99,995 to upgrade a currently titled car or $149,995 for a complete car. Production will be limited to just 100 examples. More details on the car and the history between Shelby and Prudhomme can be found in the press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">UPDATE</span><span style="font-style: italic;">: Video of unveiling added after the jump.</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/">Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby unleashes 750-horsepower GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/">Shelby unleashes 750-horsepower GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Feb 2009 00:42:00 EST. <br />What's the price of fame? When the subject turns towards famous movie cars, a vehicle's presence on the silver screen invariably adds some intrinsic value to the vehicle's worth, and there are few movie cars in recent memory more recognizable as Eleanor, the 1967 Ford Mustang fastback from <em>Gone in 60 Seconds</em>. According to the studio, a total of eleven Eleanors were created for the flick, and only three of those machines made it through filming unscathed. The car you see here is one of those machines, used for close-ups with Nicholas Cage. In this case, the car's sundry list of components isn't all that important, but for those that care, there's a 351 cubic-inch Ford V8 underhood, mated to an automatic transmission. The gavel fell, fees were tallied and the car's new owner was exactly $216,700 poorer after Saturday night's bidding was finished.<br /><br />Don't forget to check out this past weekend's complete coverage of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction</a> in Scottsdale by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/barrett-jackson">clicking here</a>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor Movie Car</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/eleanorbj09_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/19/barrett-jackson-2009-gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-movie-car/">Barrett-Jackson 2009: Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor Movie Car</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Jan 2009 10:28:00 EST. <br />If you were watching the Barrett-Jackson auction on SPEED on Saturday evening, you might have noticed that a fairly important car wasn't shown crossing the block - the first retail production 2010 Shelby GT500. Did they auction the car off during a commercial? Nope, in fact the car wasn't auctioned at all. We, among many others, were disappointed not to see the car sell, especially with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/barrett-jackson-2009-first-retail-production-2010-chevrolet-cam/">first Camaro selling earlier in the evening</a>. We asked around, and the official word from Barrett-Jackson is that Carroll Shelby caught a cold in the last few days and was unable to make it to Scottsdale. Since both Ford and Shelby wanted Carroll to be there when the car was auctioned off, the sale was rescheduled for the Palm Beach event in April. By that time production GT500s should be rolling off the assembly line, so instead of the winning bidder buying the rights to the first car, Carroll Shelby will pick out the options and colors and sell the actual vehicle. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Let's make this perfectly clear. As much as Mustang fans (this author included) would like it to be otherwise, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/">2010 Shelby GT500</a> does <em>not</em> use an aluminum block. At least a couple of times over the past few weeks, there have been online reports that the cast iron block of the last generation has been ditched in favor of the lighter material. These reports are incorrect. <br /><br />At the Ford preview briefing just before Christmas, we explicitly asked SVT chief engineer Jamal Hameedi if the block had changed, and he told us that it remains iron. When the aluminum rumor popped up yet again yesterday, we contacted Ford spokesman Alan Hall, who repeated the iron refrain. Whatever Ford's reasoning was for keeping the hood closed on the GT500s at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>, it is not because they were hiding an aluminum block. The reason for the iron block is that the aluminum unit from the Ford GT is designed for a dry sump lubrication system and there is nowhere to package the oil reservoir in the production Mustang. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_01_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_02_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_03_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/10shelbygt500_36_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_04_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: Ford, <a href="http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=476622">The Mustang Source</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/2010-shelby-gt500-uses-cast-iron-not-aluminum-block/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 uses cast iron, NOT aluminum block!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 10:36:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />When Ford introduced the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/13/first-drive-2010-ford-mustang-gt/">2010 Mustang</a> at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> in November, marketing boss Jim Farley promised the next chapter in the Mustang story would be revealed at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a> in January. Well that time has arrived and to anyone who has been following the Mustang pattern over the last several years, it should come as no surprise that it's the Shelby GT500. Just like the last iteration, the new GT500 is the most powerful factory production Mustang ever. <br /><br />Like the more prosaic Mustangs, the GT500 is mechanically an evolution of the older model. Just as Ford used the current-gen Bullitt model as the starting point for the 2010 Mustang GT, the lessons learned from developing the limited edition GT500 KR fed directly into the latest Shelby-badged variant. Output of the supercharged 5.4L V8 has now been cranked up to 540 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and the handling is claimed to be better than before. Check out everything that's new on the GT500 after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_01_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_02_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_03_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/10shelbygt500_36_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_04_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Preview: 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 bites back</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/">Detroit Preview: 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 bites back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 01 Jan 2009 00:01:00 EST. Last year, the very first <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/barrett-jackson-2008-2009-corvette-zr1-1-goes-for-a-cool-milli/">Corvette ZR1</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/barrett-jackson-2008-right-to-own-first-dodge-challenger-srt8-s/">Dodge Challenger</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/19/barrett-jackson-2008-first-2008-shelby-gt500-kr-sells-for-605/ ">Shelby GT500KR</a> all went across the block, and earlier this month it was announced that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-retail-production-2010-camaro-to-be-auctioned-by-barrett-j/">first retail 2010 Camaro</a> would be available to the highest bidder. Not to be outdone, Ford has announced that a trio of their new offerings will be up for auction, the highlights of which will be the very first 2010 Mustang GT and Shelby GT500. This announcement all but confirms that the car will make its debut a few days earlier in Detroit. Also up for grabs will be the first 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. Proceeds for the auctions will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, providing more justification for collectors to bid on the vehicles.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/">2010 Ford Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/00_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/01_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/02_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Barrett-Jackson via <a href="http://www.mustangblog.com/index.php/2008/first-2010-mustang-and-2010-shelby-gt500-to-be-auctioned-at-barrett-jackson/">MustangBlog.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/28/first-2010-shelby-gt500-being-auctioned-at-barrett-jackson/">First 2010 Shelby GT500 being auctioned at Barrett-Jackson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 12:29:00 EST. <p>With most of the attention at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LAAutoShow/">LA Auto Show</a> given to the Mustang, you'd think Ford would ride that wave of publicity as long as it could. However, it appears that Ford will be making more Mustang news before the 2010s even hit the showroom floors. At the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-2010-mustang-officially-unveiled-live/">live unveiling of the 2010 Ford Mustang</a> last week, we thought we caught Mark Fields hinting at the possibility of more Mustang news coming out of the Detroit Auto Show this January. Sure enough, we watched the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/14/ford-to-unveil-2010-mustang-live-on-speed-tv/">unveiling again on Speed TV</a> and listened carefully for any mention of a new Mustang for Detroit. Sure enough, Fields says that Ford "will reveal yet another chapter in the Mustang story" at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. </p>
<p>We've thought through what this new Mustang could be, and we're down to two possibilities. The first is the next generation Shelby GT500. Spy photographs have been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/12/spy-shots-2010-shelby-gt500-snapped-again-more-revealed/">snapping prototypes</a> running around Detroit since early summer, and if Ford keeps the same powertrain setup as the GT and V6, then it would simply be be a matter of making the cosmetic changes. The second possibility is an all-new variant of the Mustang, most likely a concept that would later hint at a production version. Since we are purely speculating, we're going to go ahead and say what we'd like to see: Boss Mustang, 5.0-liters, 400 hp and a six-speed manual tranny. A Mustang commemorating Parnelli Jones' 1970 Trans-Am win would be perfect except that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/27/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-saleen-parnelli-jones-limited-editi/">Saleen already did it</a> two years ago. Mark Field's wording seems to hint at something all new, but the possibility of a new motor could have potential buyers waiting another year to make a purchase. It looks like we'll just have to wait until January to find out. </p>

<p>In the hustle and bustle of SEMA last week we missed the announcement that Shelby Automobiles will be sponsoring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motorspeedway in March. The race will actually be lengthened to 427 miles and will be called the 'Shelby 427'. We think it would be more historically appropriate for Shelby to sponsor a road racing event, but the company's proximity to the race track and the better marketing reach make NASCAR a logical choice.</p>
<p>In conjunction with the sponsorship, Shelby will be offering a 427 package for the GT500. Hoping for a 427ci engine conversion? So were we, but prepare to be disappointed. The 427 package will be a simple badge job and will include "Mr. Shelby's personal autograph as well as many other event-related add-ons." Those who purchase the package will also receive race tickets and the possibility to serve as the race's honorary starter. Full details on the race and the 427 upgrade package are in the press release after the jump.</p>
