Good news has been in short supply for General Motors so far this year, but increased demand for its new products shows that the worst of times may be in the rear view mirror. <em>Automotive News</em> is reporting that GM may increase production of four new vehicles due to heavy demand. The new-for-2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/11/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-equinox/">Chevy Equinox</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/first-drive-2010-chevrolet-camaro/">Camaro</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/review-2010-cadillac-srx/">Cadillac SRX</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/16/first-drive-2010-buick-lacrosse-looks-to-breathe-life-into-old/">Buick LaCrosse</a> are reportedly under consideration. Equinox sales are so brisk (13,157 sales in August) that GM is considering adding production of the efficient crossover at a second plant. Expanding Equinox production could also happen if GM adds a third shift to its CAMI facility in Ontario.<br />
<br />
One reason for the potential production increases stems from this summer's Cash for Clunkers bonanza. Inventory is now so low for many vehicles that a bump in production is inevitable. GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson reportedly told AN that the company knew it would have to eventually bump production and that its new products have done the best job of outstripping demand. GM is likely hoping that these fresh faces are hot enough that a sustained production bump is necessary, which may mean that some laid off employees could be called back to work.<br />

<br /> With the tagline "America, we have re-ignition," Cadillac is out to reintroduce itself to buyers. After bursting out of their underground bunker, the spot showcases all of the models in the line - and at least one to come. The ad has begun to hit the airwaves, and it features what appears to be the production version of Cadillac's much-anticipated CTS Coupe. <br />
Volvo's new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/04/review-2010-volvo-xc60-delivers-on-looks-and-lux-handling-to/">XC60</a> sits at the top of the pack when it battles head-to-head against the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/la-2008-2009-audi-q5-makes-its-north-american-debut/">Audi Q5</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/mercedes-adjusting-glk-model-mix-options-list-to-kickstart-sale/">Mercedes-Benz GLK350</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/review-2010-cadillac-srx/">Cadillac SRX</a>, says Edmunds in its latest four-way comparison. The entrants, each new members of the expanding Compact Luxury Crossover segment, were all selected for the battle based on size and their less-than-$40,000 starting prices. Veterans such as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/05/2008-acura-rdx-a-sports-car-in-a-cuv-costume/">Acura RDX</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/06/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-bmw-x3-3-0si/">BMW X3</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/20/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-infiniti-ex35/">Infiniti EX35</a> were left home as they aren't rookies to the field.<br />
<br />
With a resolutely last place finish, the Cadillac SRX was clobbered over its outward visibility, weight, lack of overall space (despite being the largest of the bunch), and cramped second-row seating. The fact that the Edmund's test car was a base FWD model didn't help either. <br />
<br />
Tied for second place were the GLK350 and Q5, both praised for their power, ride, and handling. The Mercedes came up short in overall utility, while the Audi took some hits for its electric power steering. <br />
<br />
According to the testers, the XC60 "won by a hair" thanks to its generous cargo capacity, second-row comfort, and "safety features galore." While the Swede offered plenty of power, it suffered from poor fuel economy and less-than-satisfying handling. So, how did a not-fun-to-drive Volvo CUV climb to the top of the comparison (one that Edmunds says, "none of our editors would personally choose")? You'll have to <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/strategies/2009/08/comparison-test-audi-q5-cadillac-srx-mercedes-benz-glk350-volvo-xc60.html">read their story</a> to find out.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2010 Cadillac SRX - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br /> The first generation Cadillac SRX brought General Motors' premium brand into the crossover segment, providing better fuel economy compared to similarly sized SUVs while also delivering significantly improved driving dynamics. We bought into that first-generation, rear-wheel-drive SRX when we reviewed it way back in 2007, but the luxury car-buying public apparently wasn't all that interested. Sales of the sharp handling SRX never took off, largely keeping Cadillac off of the luxury crossover gravy train long dominated by the Lexus RX 350.<br /> <br /> Cadillac hopes to change its crossover fortunes with the introduction of the all-new 2010 SRX. This time out, the SRX is very different from the one it replaces, with a fundamental shift from a rear-wheel drive platform (with available all-wheel drive) to a front-drive setup (also with available AWD). Along with that shift in powered wheels, the 2010 model goes with smaller, more efficient powertrains. Cadillac doesn't try to hide the fact that the new SRX is gunning for the RX, but GM's designers and engineers didn't want to simply copy the strong-selling Lexus. Cadillac wanted its crossover to be more expressive inside and out, with state-of-the-art tech and superior driving dynamics. Does the new SRX have what it takes?<br /><br />Follow the jump to find out.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/">Review: 2010 Cadillac SRX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010srx_review000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010srx_review001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010srx_review002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010srx_review003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2010-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/2010srx_review004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Chris Shunk / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/review-2010-cadillac-srx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2010 Cadillac SRX charts a new course for thick part of the market</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/review-2010-cadillac-srx/">Review: 2010 Cadillac SRX charts a new course for thick part of the market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 11:55:00 EST. <br />Cadillac invited a handful of local media to its Milford, MI proving grounds for an early "preview" drive of the second-generation SRX crossover. The first official media launch won't happen until late May, just ahead of the mid-summer on-sale date, but GM wanted to provide a sneak peak at the chassis and hardware underpinning the new SRX. Contrary to popular opinion, the SRX and the Saab 9-4X aren't built atop the Theta platform used for the Saturn Vue and Chevy Equinox. Both vehicles uses a mix of Theta pieces, bits from the Epsilon II platform and a host of new components to create a new premium crossover architecture.<br /><br />Unfortunately, Michigan weather just didn't want to cooperate with the SRX. After an early event was cancelled due to unseasonably warm weather in February, GM decided to let us loose on a 50-mile local road loop to show off the SRX's new chassis control and vehicle dynamic systems. Read on to find out how it fared.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/">Preview Drive: Cadillac SRX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-cadillac-srx-fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/06-cadillac-srx-fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-cadillac-srx-fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-cadillac-srx-fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/preview-drive-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-cadillac-srx-fd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/06/preview-drive-2010-cadillac-srx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview Drive: 2010 Cadillac SRX takes a swing at Lexus' RX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/06/preview-drive-2010-cadillac-srx/">Preview Drive: 2010 Cadillac SRX takes a swing at Lexus' RX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 19:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Monterey debut - Click above for a high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />After speaking this morning with Cadillac's product communications manager, David Caldwell, we've fleshed out some near-term product plans for General Motors' luxury brand - in particular the timetable for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/15/embargo-8-15-pebble-beach-2008-cadillac-unveils-2010-cts-v-spo/">2010 CTS Sport Wagon</a>. The automaker's Lansing Grand River plant is scheduled to begin building the stylish rear-drive load lugger in early May, and the first examples should be at dealerships around Memorial Day (May 25), or perhaps early June.<br /><br />Cadillac's first-ever U.S-market station wagon (no, the SRX crossover doesn't count) is expected to offer a reasonable 25 cubic feet of space beneath its rakish rear glass, and while it rides on the same 113.4-inch wheelbase as its sedan counterpart, the wagon will actually be .3-inches shorter. The model looks to be particularly important for GM's fortunes in Europe, where the luxury division is still struggling to gain traction against the entrenched domestics. While being something of a fringe interest in the U.S., sport wagons do solid business in Europe, and the overseas-only <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/12/frankfurt-2007-cadillac-bls-wagon-has-got-back/">BLS Wagon</a> has played largely to lukewarm reviews. Back home in the States, Cadillac expects just 20 percent of CTS customers to opt for the estate version, while the European model mix is slated to be more along the lines of a 60 percent/40 percent split in favor of the wagon.<br /><br />So... what about the CTS Coupe? As we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/gm-postpones-cadillac-cts-coupe-until-summer-2010/">reported in January</a>, the stylish two-door's production plans remain firm for next year, despite company-wide cutbacks and rumors to the contrary. While that's still later than Cadillac had originally hoped, officials say the delay will give them the opportunity to focus on launching the Sport Wagon as well as the 2010 SRX replacement. No official word on the likelihood of a CTS-V Coupe or Sport Wagon, but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/27/spy-shots-cadillac-cts-v-coupe-spotted-testing/">mules of the former have already been spotted</a>, so perhaps we'll get lucky.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/">2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x10ca_ct014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/x10ca_ct001-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-cts-sport-wagon/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/x10ca_ct002-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/cadillac-cts-sport-wagon-production-to-begin-early-may-cts-coup/">Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon production to begin early May, CTS Coupe still on track</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 19:30:00 EST. <br />We're technically embargoed from telling you anything about the new 2010 SRX, but that hasn't stopped Cadillac from releasing a teaser video on YouTube of the new wreath and crest CUV sliding around in the snow. Set to replace the current SRX that didn't sell well despite being a perfectly competent machine, the new SRX will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show as the latest model to continue Cadillac's resurgence as a brand that actually matters in the marketplace. The new SRX promises to be much more appealing to the mainstream, especially if you like drifting on frozen lakes, and really, who doesn't? Check out the vid <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/video-sneak-peak-at-2010-cadillac-srx/">after the jump</a> and let us know if you think the new SRX will do better than Cadillac's first attempt.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7meaKmW6Vk&amp;eurl=http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/12/2010-cadillac-s.html">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/video-sneak-peak-at-2010-cadillac-srx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Sneak Peak at 2010 Cadillac SRX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/video-sneak-peak-at-2010-cadillac-srx/">VIDEO: Sneak Peak at 2010 Cadillac SRX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008 17:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-res gallery of the Cadillac Provoq Concept</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Through some circumstantial evidence, "rumblings" and tea leave-reading, <em>Autoweek</em> has come to the conclusion that General Motors may unveil a new Cadillac model at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/DetroitAutoShow/">Detroit Auto Show</a> powered by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/ChevroletVolt/">Chevrolet Volt</a>'s range-extending hybrid powertrain.<br /><br />Rumors of a Caddy-badged Volt have been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/26/rumormill-cadillac-to-get-its-own-volt/">circulated since earlier this year</a>, with Bob Lutz and other GM execs hinting at the possibility of new hybrid model joining the Cadillac line-up. Lutz told reports back in September that "there's definitely room" for an eco-conscious Caddy and that "there's going to have to be some kind of dramatic environmental statement" from GM's luxury brand. So what form could it take?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/14/opel-and-vauxhall-versions-of-volt-to-be-built-in-u-s/">Opel and Vauxhall versions of the Volt</a> are already planned, but a Cadillac variant would likely be a small- to mid-size crossover. Just such a vehicle is slated to arrive in the second quarter of 2009 - the next generation SRX -- inspired by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/08/ces-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-revealed/">Provoq concept unveiled earlier this year</a>. While the Volt is supposed to carry a price tag of around $40,000, the range-extended, plug-in hybrid CUV from Cadillac would be priced significantly higher, and that could help GM recoup some of the costs associated with the Volt's advanced drivetrain development. We'll know for sure in a few weeks time.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/">Cadillac Provoq Fuel Cell Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/x08cc_ca033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/x08cc_ca034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/x08cc_ca035_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/x08cc_ca036_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/x08cc_ca037_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/">Detroit 2008: Cadillac Provoq concept - Live Reveal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cadillac-provoq-concept-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cadillac-provoq-concept-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cadillac-provoq-concept-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cadillac-provoq-concept-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cadillac-provoq-concept-detroit-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/cadillac-provoq-concept-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20081218/FREE/812189985">Autoweek</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/18/rumomill-cadillac-volt-coming-to-detroit/">Rumormill: Cadillac Volt coming to Detroit?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 20:01:00 EST. With all the baggy covering gone from this prototype, we can clearly see its styling closely mimics that of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/08/ces-2008-cadillac-provoq-fuel-cell-concept-revealed/">Provoq Concept</a>, which Rick Wagoner introduced at CES last January. There are a couple of areas where the realities of production have toned down the concept's flair, but the vehicle's overall shape and detail remains. Built on GM's Theta Premium platform, the new SRX replaces the old model that was larger and a surprisingly poor seller. It was surprising because the old SRX was an athletic CUV that seemed to offer on paper what buyers wanted. This new model appears to be a smidge smaller and will likely offer more fuel efficient engines and a smoother ride. Look for its official debut in the coming days and weeks, but for now glance at our gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/">2010 Cadillac SRX - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cadillacsrx.ch1.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cadillacsrx.ch2.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cadillacsrx.ch3.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cadillacsrx.ch4.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-cadillac-srx-spy-shots/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/cadillacsrx.ch5.kgp.ed_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: KGP Photography]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/13/spy-shots-cadillacs-new-srx-caught-with-minimal-camo/">Spy Shots: 2010 Cadillac SRX caught in full glory</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Aug 2008 14:25:00 EST. That perspective is set to change, as Cadillac plans to drop the slow-selling STS and DTS models, and instead focus its efforts on creating another CUV, a new mid-sized sedan and an entry-level RWD offering.<br /><br />The plans to redesign the SRX crossover have been nixed due to poor sales, and in its place a new V6-powered, five-passenger CUV, likely to be dubbed the BRX, will go on sale in 2009. More importantly, Cadillac plans to focus its sporting credentials by expanding the CTS lineup to include both a wagon and a coupe, all in an effort to sway consumers interested in the segment-leading BMW 3-series.<br /><br />Going after the Bavarian boys won't be easy, so in addition to the expansion of the CTS line, Cadillac's replacement for the STS and DTS will take aim at the BMW 5-series, with a high-performance RWD sedan. That, coupled with a proposed entry-level sedan will round out the new Cadillac lineup.<br /><br />Although the Automotive News article doesn't cite a timeframe for this somewhat radical proposal, we'd expect to see some of Cadillac's new wares popping up in quick order, beginning in Detroit next year.<br /><br />[Source: Automotive News - Sub. <p>While Cadillac's latest offerings have been significantly improving the iconic American luxury marque's appeal, the SRX, despite being a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/">very good car</a>, has been a bit of thorn in its lineup. Fortunately its replacement, earmarked for a 2011 launch, is shaping up to be a car-length or two in the right direction. </p>
<p>Instead of the rather van-like current model, the replacement is reportedly taking a smaller form to target the likes of the BMW X3, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLK and company, which may come as a shock for American buyers who are more attuned to Cadillac SUVs of Escalade proportions. Although designed with the European market in mind, unlike the BLS sedan, the new crossover will be offered in the US.</p>
<p>Although the new crossover will share in Cadillac's current "Art &amp; Science" design language, with a sharp crease running up the hood flanked by vertical headlights and slab-sided flanks et al, the SRX replacement is expected to have a more rounded greenhouse. </p>
<p>Sharing its platform with Saab's upcoming 9-4 crossover (itself a replacement for the likewise larger 9-7x) and some mechanicals from the General's latest and versatile Epsilon platform, insiders predict a range of engines including GM's latest direct-injection 3.6-liter V6, a new six-cylinder diesel, and the possibility of hybrid and ethanol power alternatives.</p>

There were only 22,000 SRXs sold in 2006, which equals about one-fifth of Lexus RX350 sales. Disappointing sales and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/04/04/new-cadillac-srx-gets-delayed/">pushed back</a> updates fed speculation that the vehicle could even be phased out. </p>
<p>However, looking at this mule leaves evidence that there may be more SRX in our future. The large mesh air-intakes up front replace the lower light assembly found on the '07 model and the addition of V-Series brakes and wheels look darn cool on pretty much anything. There are some sweetly-revised tail lights and the headlights look tweaked as well, while somebody over at Cadillac has a sense of humor, as the SRX is sporting a set of Buick Lucerne portholes at the A-pillar. The holes <em>could</em> be helping to increase air-flow for a bigger, badder engine. We can only hope, but we doubt they're meant for production. An earlier <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/">Autoblog review</a> of the SRX was very favorable, and we're hoping to see more SRX Caddy's in the near future.</p>

Cadillac will be having a big European re-launch at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, showing a bunch of new and revised products. The new 2008 CTS that was unveiled to much praise in Detroit in January will make it's European debut in Geneva. The SRX cross-over has been something of a wallflower for Cadillac since it's initial introduction, gathering little attention or sales. A revised version will debut in Switzerland likely wearing a new grille, similar to the the one that adorns the new CTS, and definitely equipped with the upscale cut-and-sew interior. The SRX also inherits the six-speed automatic from its STS-V and XLR-V brethren.<br /><br />[Source: General Motors]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/">2008 Cadillac CTS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/cadillac-cts---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/cadillac-cts---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/cadillac-cts---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/cadillac-cts---11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-cadillac-cts-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/cadillac-cts---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/19/geneva-preview-cadillac-goes-to-switzerland/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Geneva Preview: Cadillac goes to Switzerland</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/19/geneva-preview-cadillac-goes-to-switzerland/">Geneva Preview: Cadillac goes to Switzerland</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Feb 2007 18:28:00 EST. Based on our time spent behind the wheel, we're guessing that a lot of the angular crossover's buyers are satisfied customers. Marketed as an SUV upon release, Cadillac later relented and has (correctly) positioned the SRX as a CUV. After all, the SUV moniker summons mental images of a vehicle that might not offer a forgiving ride for its occupants. The SRX is the opposite of all that.<br /><br /><em>Follow the jump for the review in full. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/">Autoblog Garage - 2007 Cadillac SRX</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/abgarage_07srx_hr_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/abgarage_07srx_hr_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/abgarage_07srx_hr_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/abgarage_07srx_hr_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/abgarage_07srx_hr_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Cadillac SRX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/29/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-srx/">In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 Cadillac SRX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jan 2007 11:55:00 EST. GM press release and additional photos (all hires) have also been added.</strong><br /><br />One of the SEMA project cars mentioned in GM's release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/20/gm-bringing-27-rides-to-sema/">last week</a> was a Cadillac's SRX design study prepared with input from women's fashion designer <a href="http://www.danabuchman.com/collection.htm">Dana Buchman</a>. A quick perusal of her 2007 collection reveals that the Tribeca denizen's clothing designs are classy and understated, themes that she carries forward in her SRX show car.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/2006_sema/0611_2007_cadillac_srx_dana_buchman/photo_02.html">Automobile magazine</a> notes that the Buchman SRX was a decent starting point, seeing as it had the new-for-2007 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/12/caddy-draws-on-history-for-richer-interior-in-the-2007-srx/">"cut and sew" interior</a>, which is attractive on its own merits. After seeing the Dana Buchman treatment, however, one hopes GM finds a way to justify a run of special editions, as she transforms the passenger cabin into a truly lush, chocolate-themed environment. <br /><br />She used leather, silk, and suede to elevate the surroundings to a higher level, and it's a feast on the eyes. Brownstone leather covers the seats, dash and upper door panels, while lighter Cashmere-colored hides trim the consoles and lower door panels. The aforementioned silk is what the carpets are made of (not at all practical, but good-looking as applied here). The Cashmere tone reappears in faux suede on the headliner , pillars and sun visors. A snakeskin fabric pattern lines the storage bins and outlines the vanity mirrors. We particularly like the quilted seat pattern, which looks like something you'd find in a Mulliner-enhanced Bentley, and the shiny chrome trim on the center stack surround, steering wheel, and corner vents looks completely appropriate here.<br /><br />The back seats are custom 40/40 buckets, and their occupants can enjoy refreshments from the custom refrigerated snack/beverage drawer in the rear center console, which also incorporates aluminum-ringed cupholders set in "Cocoa granite" Corian (the countertop material). Though not mentiones specifically in the release, the Corian also appears to adorn the forward center console and dashboard trim as well. Autoblog can be read on-the-go thanks to a KVH mobile internet system with Wi-Fi capability, and Cadillac's SRX theater package provides additional on-road entertainment capabilities.<br /><br />Outside, the car's DuPont Gold Mist finish dovetails nicely with the brown and tan theme inside. It also sports 20-inchers, an Eibach suspension that drops the car 1.5 inches, Brembo stoppers, and an upgraded cat-back exhaust system by Corsa. Dana Buchman may design women's clothing, but this SRX has a unisex appeal (well, OK ... maybe not the snakeskin linings) . Nice is nice, no matter how you cut it. The Dana Buchman SRX Sport looks to be a serene oasis in the maelstrom of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/20/outrageous-c6-corvette-set-for-sema-debut/">billion-watt stereos, horrifyingly garish bodykits, and highly-inappropriate lambo doors</a> that will join it on the floor at SEMA. <br /><br />(Press release, Photo gallery after the jump)<br /><br />[Sources: Automobile magazine, GM]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/30/sema-peek-cadillac-srx-by-dana-buchman/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SEMA Peek: Cadillac SRX by Dana Buchman - UPDATED</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/30/sema-peek-cadillac-srx-by-dana-buchman/">SEMA Peek: Cadillac SRX by Dana Buchman - UPDATED</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 30 Oct 2006 10:33:00 EST. Just one day after <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/10/roll-reversal-hummer-rolls-out-of-a-foreign-country/">the first HUMMER H3s rolled off the assembly line</a> at GM's Struandale plant in Port Elizabeth, General Motors today announced it's bringing Cadillac to South Africa. </p>
<p>The first models to be offered in "the rainbow nation" will be the overseas-market BLS (based on the Saab 9-3), the SRX crossover and the STS sedan. The Caddys will be sold through a direct distribution network, with new dealerships opening in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.</p>
<p>GM also markets several Chevy models, Saabs, Opels, Isuzus and Suzukis in South Africa, and operates two manufacturing plants in Port Elizabeth. With all that love for the liberated republic, don't be surprised if GM shows up as a major sponsor when South Africa hosts the FIFA World Cup in 2010.</p>

It'll appear in showrooms at the end of the year, joined by the all-wheel-drive STS, which will be offered for the first time. Also in '06, the Cadillac BLS gets a 6-speed manual and the automatic is given a sport mode. <br /><br />After the ball drops in Times Square, Q1 2007 will see the arrival of the SRX with its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/12/caddy-draws-on-history-for-richer-interior-in-the-2007-srx/">spiffy new interior</a> and a rear-wheel-drive version. The rear-driver supplements the AWD version that is currently available on the Continent. The product blitz concludes with an attack by Cadillac's V-Series cruise missiles. The 448-horse, wind-in-your-hair XLR-V comes first, followed by the even more potent STS-V (476 hp) shortly thereafter.<br /><br />Why is Cadillac throwing down the gauntlet with a bunch of V8-powered machines in Europe, where smaller cars and diesel power dominate the roads? Well, their stated goal of producing vehicles that equal or surpass the quality of their European competition is no secret. For them to do that, they're going to have to go play in the competition's backyard.<br /><br />Besides, no one says a peep about the European automakers' vehicles that Cadillac is competing against, many of which are available with thirsty gasoline V8s of their own. For Cadillac to make progress on the other side of the Atlantic, they have to bring their best, which is precisely what they're doing. We'll keep an eye on how things go.<br /><br />(Cadillac press release after the jump)<br /><br />[Source: Cadillac via Inside Line]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/08/cadillac-set-to-fortify-european-lineup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cadillac set to fortify European lineup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/08/cadillac-set-to-fortify-european-lineup/">Cadillac set to fortify European lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 08 Sep 2006 08:06:00 EST. <ul>
    <li>The
Cadillac recall, which affects the 2005 model year SRX SUV and STS sedan, points to an incorrect welding of the toe
links in the rear suspension. The problem could potentially cause a crash. 23,000 Cadillacs may have been
affected.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>The Saab recall affects the 2001 Saab 9-3 (pictured). The NHTSA bulletin states that
fuel lines and fittings in the vehicle were damaged during manufacturing. 11,000 vehicles may have been affected.<br
/></li>

While there will be two different versions of the Sport package
available on upcoming SRX revision, and the Escalade ESV will receive a Platinum package (with heated and cooled
cupholders, <em>natch</em>), don't expect any of the automaker's V-series magic on Caddy's two-box vehicles. Too bad -
while we're not sure that the 'sclade really needs more than 403 HP, it would have been interesting to see what could
have been&nbsp;if a slightly detuned LS7 made its way between the frame rails. And what better way to poke rival
Mercedes in the eye than to drop the supercharged Northstar into the SRX?&nbsp;</p>
