Click above for galler of all six Scion SEMA cars

Scion's been a perennial SEMA attendee for the last five years, with customization being a central tenet of the brand. This year, the cool-seeking Toyota nameplate is bringing a sextet of vehicles, three each of tCs and xBs, all customized. The xBs were sent out to customizers to get thematic treatments. The three art cars embody different ideas; one's a camper in the vein of Westfalia Volkswagens, another's been chopped and dropped to create a lakebed hot rod, while our favorite is an ersatz Roach Coach. Blaine Fontana was responsible for the camper conversion, while Jeff Soto whipped up the salt flats car, and Kenton Parker decided to celebrate the xB's non-curvy shape with the foodservice conversion.

Bonneville speed trial cars serve as inspiration for one of the customized tCs, as well. Scion distributed three tCs to customizers for the 2008 Scion Tuner Challenge, with the winner to be announced during SEMA. Eddie Hahm of "Fast Eddies Garage" fame took it retro and created an homage to a time when hot rodding meant more than mounting dubs and a bodykit. Fatlace founder Mark Arcenal dreamt up a DTM racer, while John Pangilinan made an even more butch looking tC with his widebody design. These six cars are sure to be just some of the Scions at SEMA. Indeed, there will be several other custom Scion models at the brand's booth, like an xD with its top chopped. We'd be down with some of these customs, even if underneath it all, they're still Scions.

Gallery: Scion at SEMA 2008

[Source: helloscion]
SEMA Preview: Scion bringing a six pack originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 09:57:00 EST. If the mean-lookin' SEMA concept shown above is an indication, however, maybe Toyota isn't planning on having to wipe egg from its face much longer. The image comes from a print ad running in the current issue of AutoWeek, and the rig pulling the race trailer is a Tundra Double Cab prepared by TRD for heavy hauling. It boasts a custom suspension, 17" wheels wrapped in 37-inch tires, a front end graced by a custom bumper with an integrated winch, and a revised grille surround that deletes that silly fake intake the production Tundras come with. Power comes from a blown version of the truck's 5.7L V8 making 500 horses, and TRD hopes to have that supercharger available as a dealer-installed accessory soon. Mike Levine at PickupTruck.com has also heard rumors of a dually HD Tundra concept, but that's not mentioned in the ad, which you can see a full scan of at TundraSolutions.com. We'll just have to wait and see what else Toyota brings to SEMA on the truck side of things, and our crack squad of bloggers on-site will bring you tons of coverage from the show floor.

[Source: PickupTruck.com]
SEMA Preview: TRD builds a heavy-duty Toyota Tundra originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 21 Oct 2007 09:32:00 EST. But the short, Hummer H2 SUT-like bed in back seems more useful as a beer cooler than for hauling sizeable quantities of stuff. GM recently saw the limited appeal of the H2's diminutive bed and appears to have given the forthcoming H3 SUT more room for junk in its trunk. The FJ Cruiser's tiny bed is further limited by the lack of a passenger compartment pass-through.

Other features of the concept include 33-inch Mickey Thompsons on 18-inch AR wheels, TRD brakes, TRD exhaust and a droppable rear window.

(Photo gallery after the jump)
Continue reading SEMA: FJ Cruiser Soft Top

SEMA: FJ Cruiser Soft Top originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 01 Nov 2006 16:27:00 EST.
