We've driven our fair share of Mustangs, but it's a rare occasion that we get to drive one at the track. That's part of the reason why we made the seven hour trek from Southern California to Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA, to get behind the wheel of Roush's new 427R Trak Pak Mustang. What's so special about the Trak Pak? For starters, it's got a supercharged V8 packing 435 horsepower and an abundance of race-ready items like an adjustable suspension, carbon fiber wing, and 14-inch brakes that all make it ideal for the weekend warrior who wants his vehicle to handle the daily grind and track-day floggings. With only 100 being built, this may be one of the few opportunities to see one in the sheetmetal, let alone to drive it on the track. While inclement weather the night before threatened to ruin the trip, we were blessed with a rain-free day, allowing us to explore the limits of the Trak Pak'd 427R. When Roush pulled the wraps off its new P-51A Mustang, we ventured a guess that it wouldn't take too long to sell out the 100 being produced for 2008. After all, it's the most powerful Mustang ever produced by Roush at 510 horsepower, and the car's personal connection with Jack Roush's love of both planes and automobiles is sure to make it an instant collector car. Well, it turns out we were right. In fact, Roush has received so much interest in the car that it has bumped the production to 151. It doesn't sound like much until you consider that's more than a fifty percent increase from the originally planned run of 100 cars.
While pricing hasn't even been announced yet, expect an MSRP of just over $65,000. That gets you Roush's latest supercharger, forged internal engine components, a custom lower and upper intake manifold, a custom fuel rail and high flow injectors, upgraded duel throttle body, and a high-capacity intercooler good for at least 510 horsepower. The P-51A also gets a Roush body kit, 14-inch brakes, upgraded interior, 18-inch wheels and tires, and a paint scheme inspired by the 357th Fighters Group that was legendary in WWII.

Say what you want about all the numerous types of Mustangs, but you have to admit that this is one that deserves the attention. Roush's latest Mustang, the P-51A, is the most powerful one to date at 510 horsepower and 510 lb-ft torque, and features styling cues based off of the P-51 fighter plane that played a key role in World War II. The new Mustang features completely forged internals including pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft that allows for higher horsepower from a brand new supercharger system. The 3-year/36,000 mile warranty is also retained on this macho muscle car. Visually the P-51A is a stunner, with a Roush body kit, black high flow grille, a silver and green paint scheme replicating the airplane, and red and yellow shields that pay tribute to the 357th Fighters Group. Only 100 will be produced at a price tag just north of $65,000. Seeing how Roush hasn't had a problem quickly selling out of its previous special edition Mustangs, we'd venture to guess that this one will go pretty quickly, as well.
Roush has come out with a new variant of its ground-pounding 427R. the 427R Trak Pak Mustang is designed for drivers who want to track their road cars on race weekends and such. Naturally, a host of changes have been made which differentiate the Trak Pak from the standard 427R. The 427R's plenty powerful (435 hp/400 lb.-ft.), but to make it really track-ready, Roush bestowed the Trak Pack with improved cooling, enhanced chassis rigidity, a fully-overhauled suspension, upgraded 6-piston brakes, and a new aero kit with an optional adjustable rear wing (as shown above). New 18" wheels, extra-sticky rubber, and unique graphics cap off the 427R Trak Pak's imposing look. The interior is similarly upgraded with a performance gauge package, shift light, short-throw shifter, leather sport seats, and aluminum pedals. Roush expects many buyers to use the 427R Trak Pack as a daily driver in addition to flogging it on a closed course, hence the presence of the comfort items like the leather seats. Pricing's been set at $58,245 and production will be limited to 100 cars, which will start becoming available later this summer. Follow the jump for the complete skinny from Roush, which calls the 427R Trak Pak its best-handling Mustang ever.
We all know that Jack Roush's company builds hot Mustangs that look good and go fast. Enter the ROUSH 427R: the most powerful Roush Mustang to date. This new fire-breather is based on the already-impressive ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang, but improves on that car's power numbers as it tacks on an additional 12 horses for a total of 427, hence the name.
The requisite body kit is standard, as are chromed 18" wheels, a stripe package and exclusive badging. In addition, the 427R gets an all-new suspension tune. Buyers can work with Roush to fully personalize their rides by choosing from an assortment of Roush accessories ranging from items like a gauge package to full leather seating.
