SEMA 2007: 1,000 HP ProPane Chevelle by Mothers

Click image for live gallery from SEMA

It seems that a lot of companies are realizing that unless your horsepower claims are in the four-digit range, they barely get noticed anymore. With that in mind, the team at Mothers Polish cooked up a very special 1970 Chevelle SS hot rod with 1,000 HP under the hood. And it happens to be powered by propane gas, hence the "ProPane" name. Jim Holloway from Mothers came up with the concept, Chip Foose did the design, Johnny Omundson of Obrothers Design handled the engineering, Haigh Blocks & PPI (Propane Performance Industries) were responsible for that 527 ci Chevy small block, and Paul Gonzalez of PGCC did the build. The result is one of the cleanest and cleanest burning resto-mods we've seen.

Follow the jump for the press release and build sheet.

Craigslist Find of the Day: Propane-powered '86 Suzuki Samurai

It's coated in new flat black paint, has a set of driving lights mounted to the fenders, is lifted two inches, and has removable doors. It also has a range of 290 miles per tank of fuel, and a full tank only runs the owner twelve bucks and change. That's because this '86 Samurai's been converted to run on propane, and since its wee little bed is outfitted with a pair of forklift-style storage cylinders. The buyer also gets the original carburetor in the deal. $3,500 cash, a Buell XB motorcycle, or an inboard-engined ski boat are all it'll take to get this LPG 'Zuki into your driveway. It's located in Dalton, GA (32 miles outside Chattanooga, TN; 88 miles outside Atlanta) and you can read the original listing here.

Thanks to "mehugtree" for the tip!

Roush introduces a propane-powered F-150

click image for a high-res view of the ROUSH F-150 LPI and some of its components

Though mentioning ROUSH usually conjures up images of high-performance Mustangs, the company that Jack built is embarking down a different path with the introduction of a Ford F-150 that runs solely on propane. The ROUSH F-150 LPI (Liquid Propane Injection) starts as a $6,5000 option with a standard 20-gallon fuel tank, though an optional in-bed 50-gallon tank is available for those who need a larger range. ROUSH claims the system, based on the 5.4L Triton V8 engine, will produce the same horsepower and torque as its gas counterpart. While propane-powered vehicles traditionally get lower fuel economy, they produce 30 to 90 percent less carbon monoxide and 50 percent fewer other toxic emissions according to the National Propane Gas Association. Propane is also the cheapest fuel alternative to gasoline you're goine to find, and there's already an infrastructure in this country to deliver it. ROUSH developed the truck in 14 months, which is a testament to the speed at which an OEM can move when it's not as large and lumbering as one of the traditional automakers.
