<br /> Not a lot of people would look at a full-size van and think, "I bet I can make that thing perform like a sports car." Sure, many major manufacturers have had similar dreams of grandeur with their full-size <em>SUVs</em> - sometimes with halfway decent results - but nothing on this scale that we can think of. On the high-riding, dirt-spitting side of things, Porsche's Cayenne Turbo S comes to mind as an SUV with the speed and handling of something a lot smaller, but vans have been mercifully exempt from these types of projects for the most part. Until now.<br /> <br /> Starting with a Volkswagen T5 Transporter, German tuner TH Automobile dropped in a (much) hotter engine and tweaked the handling a bit, creating the VW TH2 in the process. They decided to go with a Porsche mill, presumably to keep things in the family. However, when you realize that the Porsche engine in question is the 560 horsepower, twin-turbo, 3.6-liter flat-six of a 996 GT2, you think, "That poor Cayenne doesn't have a prayer."<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/video-hot-box-th-automobiles-volkswagen-multivan-takes-on-po/">Follow the jump</a> to see a video of this van in action, going head-to-head with the bogey Cayenne. The footage is from the German show <em>Grip</em>, and the audio's in German, so unless you <em>sprecken sie Deutsch,</em> you'll have to just enjoy the video. Don't turn off the audio, however or you'll miss the sounds of this beast in action.<br /> <br /> The TH2 matches the Cayenne's 4.8 second 0-100 km/h run, and has the same 280 km/h top speed, but it's not a whole lot cheaper than the Porsche at 113,000 Euro. But if you have the scratch, TH will build you one. So <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/video-hot-box-th-automobiles-volkswagen-multivan-takes-on-po/">follow the jump</a> for the embedded YouTube clip and check out the <a href="http://www.thautomobile.de/index_en.htm">TH Automobile website</a> to see their other vantastic offerings.<br /> <br /> [Source: Grip via <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK3hoQ2TKF0&amp;feature=player_embedded">YouTube</a> via <a href="http://germancarscene.com/2009/09/27/vw-th2-multivan-vs-porsche-cayenne-turbo-s/">German Car Scene</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/video-hot-box-th-automobiles-volkswagen-multivan-takes-on-po/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Hot Box - TH Automobiles' Volkswagen Multivan takes on Porsche Cayenne Turbo S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/video-hot-box-th-automobiles-volkswagen-multivan-takes-on-po/">VIDEO: Hot Box - TH Automobiles' Volkswagen Multivan takes on Porsche Cayenne Turbo S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 12:33:00 EST. <br /> You know what the biggest problem with Porsche's 997 Turbo is? Too slow. They're like German desert tortoises. Just kinda clumsy and always in the way. 480 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque rotating all four wheels might <em>sound</em> fast on paper, but it just isn't. Understanding this, Porsche came out with the more powerful GT2. However, 530 horsepower is still like standing still and rear-wheel drive is for drag racers. You need the traction of AWD, and something with more power than some <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/review-2009-cadillac-cts-v-supercar-performance-everyday-driv/">dirty old Cadillac</a>. A lot more power.<br /> <br /> Meet the Switzer Perfomance P800 997. Here's the quick stats: 800 hp, zero-to-sixty in less than three seconds and the quarter-mile in just a smidge over ten seconds. Now that's <em>fast</em>. Oh yeah -- the P800's AWD, too. No one is going to mistake you for a Mustang with a blower. Where does an extra 320 hp vs. stock come from? Custom GT30 turbochargers, <span class="il">Switzer</span> MONSTER intercoolers, electronic boost control, fancy headers and exhaust, plus a carbon clutch pack. We'll take it. In yellow. <div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>9ff BT2 Porsche 911 GT2 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />With the Porsche Carrera GT long out of production and the anticipated <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/18/rumormill-porsche-planning-road-going-rs-spyder/">roadgoing RS Spyder</a> still a ways down the pipeline, the performance mantle in Stuttgart is held up buy the 911 GT2. Boasting 520 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a 206 mph top end, that may be enough for some, but not for everyone. Not by a long shot. Following the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/18/wimmer-takes-all-680hp-porsche-911-gt2-goes-up-to-221-mph/">Wimmer RS GT2</a> sporting a hefty 680 horses and capable of reaching 221 mph, two additional Porsche tuning houses have taken the roadgoing racer even further with upwards of 800 horsepower.<br /><br />First up to bat is American Porsche tuner Switzer Performance, which fitted a new set of Garret GT30R turbos, tweaked the ECU and replaced the exhaust system to the tune of 800 horsepower, which is all the more impressive considering that they achieved the figure running on regular old 93 pump octane. <br /><br />But if that ain't enough to satiate your super-Porsche cravings, along comes 9ff with an even more bonkers tuning kit for the GT2. The same firm behind the svelte, extreme GT9 supercar has taken the GT2 up to 850 horsepower, and has supplemented the extra boost with carbon fiber body panels and a downforce-increasing aero kit. 9ff claims its latest rocket sled will run up to 62 mph in three seconds flat and top out at a stunning 240 mph, but the gearing can be tuned according to the customer's specifications to either optimize acceleration even further or augment the top speed. It even looks nifty in Gulf livery. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/gt2-can-play-at-that-game-9ff-and-switzer-each-tune-out-800-hp/">Follow the jump</a> for a press release and video from Switzer, or click on the thumbnails below for a high-resolution gallery of the 9ff GT2.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/">9ff BT2 Porsche 911 GT2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/523508_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/6328378_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/5320522_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/4147915_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/9ff-bt2-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/817880_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/gt2-can-play-that-game-9ff-and-switzer-each-tune-out-800-hp-por/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GT2 Can Play That Game: 9ff and Switzer each tune out 800+hp Porsche 911s</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/gt2-can-play-that-game-9ff-and-switzer-each-tune-out-800-hp-por/">GT2 Can Play That Game: 9ff and Switzer each tune out 800+hp Porsche 911s</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 19:01:00 EST. <br />As if the Porsche 911 GT2 wasn't fast enough in stock form, German tuning house Wimmer Racing Technology has unveiled a new &euro;30,000 ($40,000) package for the Stuttgart supercar to take its already superlative performance to stratospheric levels. <br /><br />With a re-calibrated ECU, upgraded turbos, new cylinder heads, camshafts and a custom exhaust, the Wimmer RS GT2 produces a whopping 680 horsepower and 642 lb-ft of torque, capable of propelling the twin-turbo rocket up to sixty in a scant 3.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 221 mph. Accompanying the engine mods are a carbon-fiber aero kit, H&amp;R suspension and 20-inch Sportec wheels. Check out the details in the press release after the jump and the images in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/">Wimmer RS Porsche 911 GT2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/00-wimmer_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/01-wimmer_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/02-wimmer_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/03-wimmer_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wimmer-rs-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/04-wimmer_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/wimmer-porsche-gt2-evo-680-ps-fuer-den-porsche-911-1257692.html">Auto Motor und Sport</a> via <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090515.002/porsche-911-gt2-bi-turbo-with-680hp-by-wimmer-rs">WCF</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/18/wimmer-takes-all-680hp-porsche-911-gt2-goes-up-to-221-mph/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wimmer Takes All: 680hp Porsche 911 GT2 goes up to 221 mph</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/18/wimmer-takes-all-680hp-porsche-911-gt2-goes-up-to-221-mph/">Wimmer Takes All: 680hp Porsche 911 GT2 goes up to 221 mph</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 18 May 2009 10:01:00 EST. That news didn't go over well in Germany, where team Porsche insinuated that Nissan cheated by using a non-standard GT-R to achieve the supersonic time. Porsche even took a bone-stock GT-R to the 'Ring and its chief test track driver could only <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/porsche-accuses-nissan-gt-r-of-cheating-the-ring/">manage a 7:54</a>. Nissan <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/nissan-defends-gt-r-ring-time/">defended</a> its time as legit and has provided solid evidence to support its case, but Porsche established enough doubt for <em>Drivers Republic</em> to bring a GT2 and GT-R to the famed N&uuml;rburgring to see which vehicle was faster.<br /><br /><em>Drivers Republic</em> put both cars in the hands of an accomplished N&uuml;rburgring veteran, Chris Harris, who is also the author of this excellent article. Both vehicles were stock, except the Japanese-spec GT-R had its limiter removed. The Nissan also had Bridgetone rubber at the corners, which are actually different than the stickier Dunlops that Tochio Suzuki utilized during his 7:29 run. Nissan claims the soon-to-be-standard Dunlops are five seconds faster, but that's when in the hands of Mr. Suzuki who is one this planet's preeminent 'Ring racers. The track was wet during the run, which you would think favors the AWD GT-R, though Harris claims the GT2 felt faster in a straight line. You're probably dying to know which vehicle came out on top, and while we will tell you that one car was nine seconds faster than the other, you'll have to follow the read link below to <a href="http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driversrepublic/thetruth030/">find out for yourself</a>. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/">2008 Porsche 911 GT2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/frank07_porschegt2-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driversrepublic/thetruth030/">Drivers Republic</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/drivers-republic-attempts-to-answer-which-is-faster-on-the-ring/">Drivers Republic attempts to answer which is faster on the 'Ring, GT2 or GT-R?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 12:59:00 EST. <p><a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/VideosWallpapers/Videos.aspx?AR=231915&amp;CT=V"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/gt2_opt.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><br />What do you do with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/gallery-2008-porsche-gt2-pics-aplenty/">Porsche GT2</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/05/10-second-stock-c6-corvette-z06-on-run-flats/">Corvette Z06</a>, and an abandoned aircraft runway? That's obvious: you line both cars up, nail the throttle and crown the victor. Thankfully, that's exactly what the chaps at <em>Autocar</em> did when they pitted the new GT2 against the Z06 on a long piece of straight pavement. No timing lights, no start/finish line, just two guys with heavy right feet and a camera crew to capture the action.</p>
<p>To refresh your memory, the GT2 is the hottest car currently in Porsche's inventory. Under its decklid, a 3.6-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder powerplant pumps out an impressive 530 hp and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. The Chevrolet Z06 has been in showrooms a bit longer, but nothing holds back its 7.0-liter eight-cylinder engine packing a 505 hp punch with 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Oh yeah, we should mention (before you all point it out) the German costs about <em>twice</em> as much as the American. </p>
<p>We won't tell you who wins the Porsche vs. Chevrolet battle, but we will say the contest will be significantly more "balanced" when the blokes can bring the upcoming 620 hp <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/15/detroit-2008-up-close-with-the-corvette-zr1/">2009 Corvette ZR1</a> to the tarmac. <em>Thanks for the tip Mike!</em></p>

<p>Porsche is the biggest name in endurance sportscar racing worldwide, and its racing engineers plan on keeping it that way. Following the introduction of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/06/porsche-unveils-gt3-cup-s-racer/">GT3 Cup S</a> comes a new-and-improved version of its big brother, the GT3 RSR. The most powerful 911-based racer Porsche makes, the RSR produces 465 horsepower from its 3.8-liter flat-six, and revs all the way to a 9400rpm redline. Although the engine carries over unchanged from the previous version, improvements have been made to the aerodynamics, suspension and transmission. Most visible is the new front end, with additional "flick" spoilers, enhanced air intakes and aerodynamically-optimized air outlets. The suspension offers a wider range of adjustability, and the RSR now features the six-speed sequential gearbox from the even-badder <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/01/porsche-unveils-the-2007-rs-spyder/">RS Spyder sports-prototype</a>. </p>
<p>Despite its alphanumeric designation, the GT3 RSR actually competes in the GT2 class, where it will face stiff competition from the likes of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/06/corvettes-to-challenge-porsches-and-ferarris-in-alms-gt2-in-2008/">Corvette C6R</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/19/ferrari-f430-gt2-ready-to-take-on-challengers-in-2008/">Ferrari F430 GT2</a> and the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/04/aston-martin-racing-releases-sketch-of-vantage-gt2/">Aston Martin Vantage GT2</a>. <br />Thirty-five orders for the new GT3 RSR have already been placed, at nearly &euro;350,000 apiece, and are being filled by Porsche's Weissach workshop. Check out the images in the gallery below and the press release after the jump.</p>

Everything is relative, though, and "more" is always the operative word when it comes to Porsche's GT2. So, how does one squeeze fifty additional ponies from an such a powerplant? Considering all the different challenges - emissions, durability, drivability, and fuel economy - it's certainly not an easy task. Fortunately, Porsche has no small amount of experience squeezing more power from turbocharged boxers, and that knowledge was put to good use on the new 2008 GT2. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/">2008 Porsche GT2 intro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/gt2_engine_03a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/gt2_engine_04a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/gt2_engine_05a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/gt2_engine_06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-gt2-intro/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/11/gt2_engine_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/13/2008-porsche-911-gt2-introduction-engine-technology/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2008 Porsche 911 GT2 introduction: Engine technology</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/13/2008-porsche-911-gt2-introduction-engine-technology/">2008 Porsche 911 GT2 introduction: Engine technology</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2007 13:03:00 EST. Our live pics, as good as they are, don't do the amped-up 911 Turbo variant justice. How does one capture 530 HP and a 204 MPH top speed in pictures? Click on the gallery below that contains 34 new images to find out. Back in the '80s, these pics would have plastered our bedroom walls. Today, they're our new desktop wallpaper. That would be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/16/officially-official-2008-porsche-911-gt2/">2008 Porsche GT2</a>, the most fierce piece of hardware that Stuttgart has to offer. We already know its specs: 530 horsepower from a twin-turbo version of the automaker's famous flat-six, 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, a 204-mph top speed, and 18.8 mpg makes a nice cherry on top. Numbers on a page didn't prepare us, however, for the awesome presence of Porsche's new GT2. Take a look at the rear rolling stock, for instance, which look Viper thick at 325mm across. Actually, Vipers wear 345 in the rear, but the Porsche's rear rubber is tucked inside a much smaller derriere. Or how about those ginormous disc brakes, which we guess are carbon ceramics based on the fact the calipers were painted yellow. The seats, as well, are bolstered like a big bear hug, while being as thin as your favorite lawn chair to save weight. <br /><br />We poked around the empty room in which Porsche will officially unveil the GT2 in public tomorrow, but were eventually tossed out like a used set of the GT2's rear tires. Check out the entire group of pics we managed to nab in our gallery below, before getting the big boot, that is.<br /><br />[Source: Porsche]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/">2008 Porsche 911 GT2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2009porsche911gt2_hi05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/frank07_porschegt2-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/10/frankfurt-2007-2008-porsche-gt2-caught-behind-closed-doors/">Frankfurt 2007: 2008 Porsche GT2 caught behind closed doors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2007 17:35:00 EST. <p>From its 530 hp, low curb weight of 3,179lbs, and 204 mph top speed, the 2008 Porsche GT2 is a supercar in every sense of the word. Heck, even its &euro;189,496 sticker places Porsche's most potent 911 in the land of the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/ferrari-f430-2006:8125-overview">F430</a> and the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/lamborghini-gallardo-2007:8941-overview">Gallardo</a>. Where the Ferrari and the Lamborghini can't match up against the GT2 is where it matters most, on the track. Not just any track, either. We're talking about the track by which all great sports cars are judged... the vaunted 'Ring. Porsche claims the new GT2 can lap the legendary 14-mile course in a mere 7:32, which is 10 seconds better than even the 599 GTB. That ridiculous lap time puts the GT2's average speed at over 110mph, which is just sick. Must be the Titanium exhaust. The 2008 Porsche GT2 is scheduled to appear in Frankfurt in September, and the newest 997 will hit European streets in November.</p>

They're clearer than the ones included in the brochure sca, which you can view by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-gt2-brochure/">click ing here</a>. The car'sessentials break down as follows:<br /><br /><strong>2008 Porsche 911 GT2</strong><br />
<ul>
    <li>3.6-liter twin turbo flat six</li>
    <li>530 horsepower at 5,600 rpm</li>
    <li>505 lb.-ft. of torque  from 2,200 to 4,500 rpm</li>
    <li>0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds</li>
    <li>0-100 mph in 7.1 seconds</li>
    <li>Top speed of 204 mph</li>
    <li>Curb weight:: 3,175 lbs</li>
    <li>Titanium exhaust</li>
    <li>6-speed manual gearbox</li>
    <li>Launch control system</li>
</ul>
The brochure spells it all out in greater detail, but suffice to say that the new GT2 is one of the most serious sports cars to come from Porsche -- ever, and it appears to be more than worthy of the "Respect Required" tagline the automaker applies to it. Click the gallery below for the newest photos. We'll add to it as more become available. <br /><br />[Source: Carscoop]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/">2008 Porsche 911 GT2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/porsche997_gt2_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/porsche997_gt2_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/porsche997_gt2_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/porsche997_gt2_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-911-gt2/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/2008-porsche-911-gt2-official-lo-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/14/first-official-images-of-the-2008-porsche-911-gt2/">First official images of the 2008 Porsche 911 GT2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 14 Jul 2007 09:29:00 EST.
