<br />In news that will doubtlessly result in a chorus of "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/19/pontiac-defends-decision-to-sell-g3-in-u-s/">We told you so</a>" forehead-slaps from critics who noted the arrival of the Pontiac G3 with disdain, word is that General Motors has a bumper crop of the Korean-built subcompacts sitting on its lots. <br /><br /><img width="252" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="190" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/pontiac-g3-kick-me-250.jpg" />How many? According to <em>The Wall Street Journal</em>, nearly a two-year supply at current sales rates. In the course of doing some research, writer Neal Boudette discovered that GM has 3,479 unsold G3 units clogging up its dealers and vacant lots. Combined with the knowledge that dealers sold just 141 units of the car in March (or one unit for every 19 of GM's 2,700 Pontiac stores), that means that GM has a supply of these Chevrolet Aveo5 twins that will last them 617 days, meaning that if the automaker stopped building new units, they would still have a supply that would last them until December 16, 2010.<br /><br />In all fairness, the G3 just came to market in February, and it often takes some time for a new model to take hold. It could well be that GM is planning a big marketing push for the car, but we've seen no evidence of this thus far, and in these cash-strapped days, it would appear that the General probably has bigger-margin fish to fry.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/">2009 Pontiac G3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x09pn_g3001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x09pn_g3002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x09pn_g3003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x09pn_g3004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-pontiac-g3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/x09pn_g3005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/autoshow/2009/04/07/pontiac-g3-the-reprise/">The Wall Street Journal</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/14/report-gm-already-has-nearly-two-year-supply-of-pontiac-g3-at-c/">REPORT: GM already has nearly two year supply of Pontiac G3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 12:59:00 EST. <p>One day before the press converge on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a>, General Motors has released pricing on its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/14/la-2007-2009-chevy-silverado-hybrid/">2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/03/chicago-08-preview-2009-gmc-sierra-hybrid-follows-suit/">2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/18/2009-pontiac-g3-wave-excitement-has-left-the-building/">2009 Pontiac G3</a>. The full-size hybrid pickup trucks each feature GM's patented two-mode hybrid drivetrain with a 6.0-liter V8 under the hood. Assisted by an electric motor, the trucks are rated to tow up to 6,100 pounds. Fuel economy is impressive for a pickup -- they are rated at 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway (2WD) when unladen. The base price for the Silverado is $38,995 (including a $975 destination charge). The Sierra barely undercuts it with a starting price of $39,365 (including $975 DFC). Production on the pickups starts in December, with delivery to dealers starting in early 2009. If trucks aren't your thing, pricing on the all-new Pontiac G3 hatchback will squeak in at $14,995 (including $660 DFC), making it the least expensive car in Pontiac showrooms. While you'll drive home in air-conditioned comfort sipping fuel at 32 mpg on the highway, don't expect much in the way of driving excitement.</p>

<br />As you may know, Pontiac has finally decided to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/18/2009-pontiac-g3-wave-excitement-has-left-the-building/">sell the Korean-built G3 five-door hatchback</a> in the U.S. On sale elsewhere in the world as a Daewoo and as the Pontiac Wave in Canada and Mexico, the G3 is basically a Chevy Aveo5 with a different nose and red gauges. It's brand rebadging in the grand old GM tradition. Jim Hopson, Manager of Pontiac Communications, has recently attempted to defend the G3's insertion into Pontiac's lineup on the <a href="http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives/2008/09/pontiac_g3_-_addressing_the_rumors.html#comments">GM Fastlane Blog</a>. The G3 is basically a badge-engineered version of the Chevy Aveo, itself a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/13/frankfurt-preview-look-out-the-new-chevy-aveo-5-door-wants-to/">relatively new design</a> in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/09/2009-chevy-aveo5-and-aveo-sedan-will-start-at-12-120/">five-door trim</a>. While the front-end and grille of the Poncho may actually be a bit nicer looking than the in-yer-face gaping maw of the Chevy, it still features those unfortunate and ungainly fake side vents. Yuck. <br /><br />Considering that the G3 would be rated at a <em>relatively</em> good 25/34 with the auto and 27/34 with the standard five-speed stick, we wouldn't be surprised if the G3 did eventually make it into U.S. showrooms nationwide. The G3 could be a fuel efficient, entry-level stepping stone into more expensive options at combined Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealerships.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=130072#2">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/01/pontiac-g3-not-coming-to-the-u-s-yet/">Pontiac G3 not coming to the U.S... yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 01 Aug 2008 15:59:00 EST. After decades of the practice damaging its brands, GM may sell the Pontiac G3 in the U.S. The G3 is nothing more than a rebadged version of what we know as the Chevy Aveo that's sold in Canada as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/24/2009-pontiac-wave5-unveiled-in-montreal/">the Wave</a>. It's rebadged and sold elsewhere in the world under various brands, but we don't see those here in the U.S. The new subcompact would supposedly bolster the offerings at combined Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealers by adding a new fuel-efficient vehicle to the mix. Oddly enough, however, the G3 only achieves marginally better fuel economy than the already-available <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-vibe/">Pontiac Vibe</a>, itself a slightly redesigned version of the Toyota Matrix, thanks to its diminutive four-banger and old-school four speed automatic tranny. Curiously enough, you can already EPA numbers for the G3 sedan and hatchback at the government's <a href="http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm">fuel economy website</a>, which could be further support for the notion that it will be sold in the U.S. soon, or may indicate that it's sold in a U.S. territory like Puerto Rico. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080602/ANA06/806020358/1205">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/02/sigh-pontiac-g3-may-be-headed-for-u-s/">Sigh.
