<br />
Why on earth would you deliberately shoot a Rolls-Royce and try your darnedest to blow it off the road? Well, because it looks like fun, that's why. But at a third of a million dollars, you should have a better reason than an appetite for destruction and a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket like so many rounds from an assault rifle. <br />
<br />
Fortunately, Mutec has such a reason. The German firm armors up luxury sedans and vehicles of all kinds for customers around the world. In this case, they've worked an undisclosed amount of bulletproofing and bomb-resistant armor into an extended-wheelbase Phantom, and then went to work on it with more fire power than Donald Trump commanding a marine batallion. And since we're not likely to do the same in this lifetime, we might as well enjoy the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/video-german-armor-company-blows-the-crap-out-of-a-rolls-royce/#continued">after the jump</a>, with our thanks to Patrick and Julio for sending in the tip.<br />

Like, say, run a caption contest. You would think that anyone able to afford something as (frankly) laughably priced as a Phantom would send the domestic servants out to schlep home pallets of toilet paper in the R63 AMG. But hey, times are tough so maybe they laid off the domestic servants. Or sold the R63 AMG. Anyhow, talk about culture clash.<br /> <br /> And now, as we do, we'll start you off with a few not-so-funny, deprived under duress captions of our own, knowing full well that y'all can do much better. <br /> <br /> <blockquote>
<div style="text-align: left;"><strong><em>Maybe if I park three spaces away from everyone else, I won't get any poor on me.<br /> <br /> It's actually a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/the-geely-ge-is-how-you-say-um-really/">Geely GE</a> and on sale inside for $99.99.<br /> <br /> Sam Walton's heirs pay a visit to the family business.<br /> <br /> The filthy rich have a constitutional right to cheap Chinese crap, too.</em></strong><br /> <br /> <strong><em>Do you have any five pound tubs of Grey Poupon?</em></strong></div>
</blockquote><br /> And there you have it - ha ha ha! Think you can do funnier? Show us below in the comments. The winner will receive 15 laps around a Walmart parking lot in a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Or not. <em>Thanks to Matthew for the tip!</em><br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.bloodhoundrealty.com/BloodhoundBlog/?p=9538">Blood Hound Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/caption-contest-rolls-royce-phantom-at-walmart/">Caption Contest: Rolls-Royce Phantom at Wal-Mart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 15:20:00 EST. <br />Pebble Beach may still be in full swing, but Canadian auction house RM is already gearing up for its next big event. Come this October, RM is setting up shop in London with a serious docket of classic automobiles on offer, the extent of which they're just revealing now.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/1928-rolls-royce-phantom-i-jarvis-torpedo-1/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/rm-phantom_250.jpg" alt="" /></a>One of the most prominent vehicles to cross the auction block at the upcoming event will be the 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I (pictured at right). Nicknamed the "Jarvis Torpedo", chassis 17EX is one of three made, and was owned by the Maharaja Hari Sigh Bahadur, ruler of Jammu and Kashmir in India, where it remained through the Seventies before returning to Europe for an extensive restoration. Since then it's appeared at various prestigious shows, including Villa d'Este in 1996 where it was named the most beautiful Rolls-Royce at the show, and Pebble Beach in 2004 to celebrate the company's centenary. <br /><br />Racing fans will undoubtedly be more enthralled, however, by the 1950 Aston Martin DB2 (above) that'll be up for grabs at the RM London auction. Raced extensively at Le Mans and the Mille Miglia, this factory works racer also served as personal transport for Aston chairman David Brown (for whom Astons still carry the initials DB). Along with a 1914 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Boattail Skiff, a 1962 Chaparral 1, the only right-hand-drive Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster ever built, a '67 Ferrari 330 GTC Zagato and more, these are just some of the most intriguing motorcars scheduled to cross the auction block late this coming October, which you can read about in the press release after the jump.<br /><strong><em><br />UPDATED: New images added to both galleries below</em></strong><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1950-aston-martin-db2-1/low/">1950 Aston Martin DB2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1950-aston-martin-db2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/lf09_r118_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1950-aston-martin-db2-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/rm-db2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1928-rolls-royce-phantom-i-jarvis-torpedo-1/low/">1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I 'Jarvis Torpedo'</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1928-rolls-royce-phantom-i-jarvis-torpedo-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/rm-phantom_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Image: Simon Clay/RM Auctions" title="Image: Simon Clay/RM Auctions" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1928-rolls-royce-phantom-i-jarvis-torpedo-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/lf09_r111_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1928-rolls-royce-phantom-i-jarvis-torpedo-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/lf09_r111_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: RM Auctions]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/rm-gears-up-for-automobiles-of-london-auction-with-rare-rolls-ro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>RM gears up for Automobiles of London auction with rare Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin classics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/17/rm-gears-up-for-automobiles-of-london-auction-with-rare-rolls-ro/">RM gears up for Automobiles of London auction with rare Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin classics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 08:28:00 EST. <br />With seemingly ever luxury automaker under the sun going after BMW's coveted balance between sport and luxury, it's a little ironic that BMW's own uber-luxury marque is the one to focus purely on cushioned comfort. But not everyone wants that out of their Rolls-Royce, or so Hamann is evidently betting. The German tuning firm has tweaked everything from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/22/bmw-x6-to-the-extreme-the-hamann-tycoon/">Bimmer crossovers</a> to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/20/dark-magic-hamann-ferrari-f430-black-miracle/">Ferrari supercars</a> and everything in between, but has now turned its attention to the Rolls-Royce Phantom range.<br /><br />Few details are available at this point, but from what we can tell, Hamann has treated the Phantom saloon and Drophead Coupe to a set of 23" rims in case the standard 21" wheels weren't big enough, apparently ditching the self-righting emblem hubs in the process. A power boost is also said to be in the mix, bringing the 6.75-liter V12's output up from 460 horsepower to a more stately 535, and torque up from 720 newton-meters (531 lb-ft) to 835 Nm (615 lb-ft). With the electronic limiter removed, the Hamann-tuned Phantoms are said to be good for 300 km/h (187 mph), to be controlled from the plush interior via a specially-crafted sports steering wheel. Proving that the love affair is still very much still alive is this, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/the-geely-ge-is-how-you-say-um-really/">Geely Excellence (GE) Limousine</a>.<br /><br />Despite the obvious aping of traditional Rolls-Royce styling cues (square-rigged waterfall grille, Spirit of <strike>Imitation</strike> <em>Ecstasy</em> hood ornament, wool carpets, etc.) there is some innovation here, in the form of the rear seat "throne," a kingly perch that forms the literal centerpoint of the car's unorthodox 1+2 seating arrangement.<br /><br />In any case, the 17.5-foot Goliath is widely expected to be the first offering from Geely's new sub-brand, YingLun, or ENGLON (a melding of "England" and "London), but for the moment, the Chinese automaker is stopping short of confirming production. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/">Geely GE Limo</a></strong></p><a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/chinese.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/autoblog_cn_img_0085_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/chinese.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/autoblog_cn_img_0087_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/chinese.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/autoblog_cn_img_0092_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/chinese.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/dsc_1352_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://chinese.autoblog.com/photos/ge-limo-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/chinese.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/dsc_1351_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/">Geely GE</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01_geely_ge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02_geely_ge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03_geely_ge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04_geely_ge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geely-ge-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05_geely_ge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><small><strong>Photos copyright (C) 2009 IceBin / Weblogs, Inc<br /><br /></strong></small></em>[Source: Autoblog China]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/21/shanghai-2009-geely-ge-goes-for-baroque-again/">Shanghai 2009: Geely GE goes for baroque. <br />It's hard to feel bad for something as stately as the Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan, but the model that relaunched the most distinguished of British automakers under BMW's patronage has soldiered on without a complaint while all the others got the attention. Since its introduction in 2003, the Phantom has spawned the Coupe and Drophead versions, as well as the Extended Wheelbase model. And with the Silver Ghost due to arrive soon, the Phantom must have started to feel a little left out.<br /><br />But Rolls-Royce isn't about to forget its core product, so it's giving the Phantom a mild update for the 2009 model year, just to show they care. On the outside, the revised Phantom gets a new bumper with a shallower stainless steel grille like those on its two-door compatriots. Rolls has also added such luxury touches as LED lights in the door handles and three new sets of aluminum wheels for customers to choose from. Inside, the impossibly luxurious cabin gets some updates to the entertainment system and redesigned interior door panels. Full details are available in the press release after the jump, with photos in the gallery below.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/">2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/rolls_royce_phantom_facelift2009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/rolls_royce_phantom_facelift2009-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/rolls_royce_phantom_facelift2009-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/rolls_royce_phantom_facelift2009-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/rolls_royce_phantom_facelift2009-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/16/phantom-gets-a-phacelift-rolls-royce-sedan-updated-for-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Phantom gets a Phacelift: Rolls-Royce sedan updated for 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/16/phantom-gets-a-phacelift-rolls-royce-sedan-updated-for-2009/">Phantom gets a Phacelift: Rolls-Royce sedan updated for 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 14:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for a high-resolution gallery of the Rolls-Royce Sapphire</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The bespoke department at Rolls-Royce has come up with another special edition Phantom to go along with the already released Phantom Pearl, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/01/rolls-royce-silver-ghost-turns-100-commemorative-phantom-unveil/">Phantom Silver</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/23/no-you-cant-afford-it-rolls-royce-phantom-tungsten/">Phantom Tungsten</a>. This one is the Phantom Sapphire, and unlike its rarefied stablemates, it gets built on the long wheelbase spaceframe.<br /><br />The Milori Sapphire exterior wraps itself around two options of interior treatment: navy blue leather with seashell highlights, or seashell leather with navy blue highlights, and each is finished off with walnut burr veneer inlaid with a diamond-pattern. For those in the back enjoying themselves, a cool box below the rear seats will chill two bottles of bubbly in an aluminum billet receptacle. When it is time to imbibe, the parcel shelf hides hand-engraved crystal tumblers, and time is kept with a Rolls-Royce clock set with a diamond-shaped sapphire. And for the driver - who should never be left out of events like this - a Conway Stewart fountain pen set and solid silver key fobs that come in a lacquered, walnut veneer box. The price: No object. <em>Thanks for the tip, James</em>!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/">Rolls-Royce Sapphire Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/01_rr_sapph_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/02_rr_sapph_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/03_rr_sapph_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/04_rr_sapph_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-sapphire-edition/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/05_rr_sapph_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.sybarites.org/2008/12/23/rolls-royce-phantom-sapphire/">Sybarites</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/26/rolls-royce-does-another-special-edition-phantom-this-time-in-s/">Rolls-Royce does another special edition Phantom, this time in Sapphire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 15:30:00 EST. So why not combine the two to create a cell phone store in the back of a Rolls-Royce Phantom? That's evidently what some well-heeled entrepreneurs in India did, purchasing a Phantom instead of a brick-and-mortar storefront, painting it up, and traveling the hillsides hawking mobile phones. It got caught in this regrettable pose - with rocks bracing its tires, because after getting a flat tire, the provincial tire shop had <a href="http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super-cars-imports-india/26889-mobile-store-rr-phantom-tvm-wasn-t-such-pleasant-sight.html">no idea how to fix it</a>. But back to the ingenuity, mad props to the folks who came up with this: more attention-getting than <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0706787/">Aishyarwa Rai</a>, more convenient than Domino's Pizza, and more comfortable than... a real store. What they can't seem to pinpoint is exactly what kind of sharing the two marques will be doing, and whether or not the resulting super Bug will be a supremely high-powered four-door to compete with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. If the two brands do indeed share something, like <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/23/spy-shots-updated-bentley-arnage-in-spain/">the next Arnage's platform</a>, for instance, that might make sense. But just a few months ago, Bugatti said that its next product would be even <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/03/bugatti-the-next-one-will-be-even-more-expensive/ ">more expensive than the Veyron</a>, and lead man Josef Paefgen has also said that there will be no inexpensive Bugatti. <br /><br />A $400,000 sedan wouldn't be inexpensive, true, but compared to $1.6 million for a Veyron, it's a flat-out bargain. Besides, the $242,000 Arnage T, after all the bespoke options, would come perilously close to a $400K Bugatti in price, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/21/spy-shots-2010-bentley-arnage-grows-to-target-phantom/">the next Bentley Arnage is growing</a> in order to fight the Phantom. So if a Bugatti sedan with Bentley underpinnings were that close in price to a Rolls Phantom... then who's Bentley meant to get in the ring with? <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/bugatti-and-bentley-building-rolls-royce-competitor-ar65086.html">TopSpeed</a> via <a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2008/10/bentley-bugatti-working-together-on.html">German Car Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/rumormill-bugatti-and-bentley-join-forces-to-battle-rolls-royce/">Rumormill: Bugatti and Bentley join forces to battle Rolls-Royce</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 15:59:00 EST. <p>Wealthy customers in the United Arab Emirates seem to have a penchant for special editions of the most expensive luxury saloons. As if it wasn't enough to get the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/01/leaked-maybach-62-landaulet/">Maybach Landaulet revealed</a> right there on their home turn, one Arabian customer recently ordered a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/14/a-matter-of-taste-rolls-royce-delivers-golden-drophead-coupe-to/">custom gilded Rolls-Royce Drophead</a>. Now Rolls-Royce has followed up with a special edition of its Phantom limousine targeted specifically for the UAE.</p>
<p>Called the Peony edition, the bespoke Phantom borrows its name from the indigenous Asian flower that symbolizes royality in ancient Oriental culture. The car features a special two-tone pearl blue exterior and Seashell interior, emblazoned with the peony floral motif. It even comes with a complementary bottle of perfume specially crafted by Emirate fragrance specialist HIND. The special edition was created by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Program, which does the bulk of its business with Middle Eastern customers. No word on how many will be built or how much it costs, but if there was ever a case of "if you have to ask, you can't afford it", this is it.</p>

According to EDAG, the firm that's created everything from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/16/detroit-show-wrapup-edag-pontiac-solstice-wagonlet-in-the-flesh/">Solstice wagon</a> to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/28/edag-luv-concept-revealed/">LUV</a>, Rolls-Royce's overtly wealthy clientele have a problem with ingress and egress when entering the luxurious confines of the back seats. Rolls' engineers purposely made the C-pillar extra-thick to give passengers more privacy and security, but that means passengers have to duck down (guffaw!) to get in. EDAG has come up with a solution that involves fitting an articulating carbon fiber roof that rises up at the push of a button so occupants can walk right in and sit down. EDAG will be displaying their modified Phantom in Geneva next month and we'll be sure to score some seat time in the back if the tuner allows.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">EDAG's press release is available after the jump.</span><br /><br />[Source: EDAG via <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080213.016/rolls-royce-phantom-by-edag">World Car Fans</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/">EDAG Rolls-Royce Phantom</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/9080213.016.mini9l2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/9080213.016.mini7l2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/9080213.016.mini6l2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/9080213.016.mini8l2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/edag-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/9080213.016.mini5l1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/13/edag-realizes-the-uber-rich-dont-like-to-crouch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EDAG realizes the uber-rich don't like to crouch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/13/edag-realizes-the-uber-rich-dont-like-to-crouch/">EDAG realizes the uber-rich don't like to crouch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 11:58:00 EST. We got a taste of this last Summer. It's fun. If the standard Phantom is not enough of an attention-getter for you, Mutec will take your car, add a divider behind the front seats, and stretch it an additional 1100mm (43 inches) to make it a proper limousine. This also makes it the approximate length of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, but what do you care? You won't be driving anyway. You'll be in back with three friends (or celebrities, or world leaders, or captains of industry), enjoying the revamped, face-to-face 4-seat configuration while you sip bubbly, broker multimillion-dollar handshake deals and gossip about how Jay-Z's Maybach is <em>so</em> completely pedestrian. <br /><br />[Source: Mutec via <a href="http://www.sybarites.org/2008/01/24/rolls-royce-phantom-stretched/">Sybarites</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/">Mutec RR01 1100mm Phantom Limousine</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/rr1101_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/rr1101_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/rr1101_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/rr1101_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mutec-rr1101-phantom-limousine/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/rr1101_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/03/the-right-way-to-roll-s-phantom-stretch-limo-by-mutec/">The right way to Roll(s): Phantom stretch limo by Mutec</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 03 Feb 2008 13:02:00 EST. Word on the street is that, while the DHC is built for leisurely cruising from the yacht club to the golf course, the new model will be more driver-focused. A driver's Rolls? Interesting...We'll just have to sit tight until March when the new mega-coupe is scheduled to debut at the Geneva show, two years after the concept's unveiling at the same event, to find out more. In the meantime, follow the link to check out the shots in depth. <br /><br />[Source: EVO via <a href="http://automobilesdeluxe.blogspot.com/2007/10/aaa-rolls-royce-tests-next-coup.html">Automobiles De Luxe</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/12/spy-shots-rolls-royce-fixed-head-coupe/">Spy Shots: Rolls Royce fixed-head coupe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 12 Oct 2007 11:33:00 EST. With all that extra cash at the top of the food chain, cars with big price tags are flying off the shelves. Aston Martin has gone from making only a handfull of cars to producing over 7,000 per year, and Bentley has been riding the wave with its Continental and Flying Spur. The once financially challenged Rolls-Royce is also getting in on the game, enjoying a 22% increase in sales that's driving its Goodwood factory to the brink. Extra shifts and longer work hours are the result for rank and file, but we're sure most of them don't mind the extra coin. With the introduction of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/28/rolls-royce-officially-announces-phantom-coupe/">Phantom coupe</a> based off of the 110EX concept from Geneva coming in the next few weeks, the chaps from south England may need to break new ground just to fulfill demand. <br /><br />It seems the ultra-luxury automaker isn't concerned with overpopulating the world with Rolls Royce luxury, either. The company is preparing a new lineup for 2010 that will expand Goodwood's offerings while also increasing the number workers employed. We may yet get a Rolls for more than <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-rolls-royce-phantom/">a week</a>, but then again, maybe not.<br /><br />[Source: Motoring News]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/09/high-rollers-snatching-up-phantoms-as-fast-as-goodwood-can-make/">High rollers snatching up Phantoms as fast as Goodwood can make them</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2007 16:03:00 EST. Driving on the 'Ring certainly requires concentration, but for a drummer, sometimes you've just got to find the beat. So, when the drums come in, you're going to be compelled to tap along on the rim of the steering wheel, no matter what. Nick Mason impressed his passenger, a reporter from the <em>Times of London</em>, with his ability to multitask like this. Mason, the man on traps for Pink Floyd and noted car nut, had taken to the German racetrack to test himself. The challenge was to complete a single lap of the Nurburgring in the time it takes for half of "<em>Shine On You Crazy Diamond</em>" to play. While he didn't quite make it, a good time was likely had by all. <br />The Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of those things that breathes air so rarefied, one's imagination runs wild. It's not hard to envision a factory perched atop Mount Olympus that's staffed by gods turning solid blocks of unobtanium into these individualized rolling spectacles. Remarkably, the Phantom is actually the work of mere mortals. Some are in Germany, the rest in England at Rolls-Royce's Goodwood factory where these cars are hand-assembled with an incomprehensible attention to detail. Massive in form, decadently appointed, stratospherically priced and absolutely, positively unmistakable, each Rolls-Royce exiting this facility is an event in and of itself. The experience is reserved for the select few who can cover the significant cost of entry, but sometimes there are exceptions. Like me, for example. The Car Gods (and the good people at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America) saw fit to place a two-tone silver Phantom in my care for a weekend. When it pulled into my driveway, I couldn't help thinking my life had turned into a rap video.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/">Review: 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage071_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage070_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-rolls-royce-phantom/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>All photos (C)2007 Alex N&uacute;&ntilde;ez / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-rolls-royce-phantom/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-rolls-royce-phantom/">Review: 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 01 Oct 2007 12:04:00 EST. Today, Rolls-Royce made its official announcement confirming this new addition to the Phantom lineup. If the eye-popping <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/30/officially-official-2008-rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/">Phantom Drophead Coupe</a> is any indication, the new, enclosed Phantom Coupe should be a dead ringer for the 101EX concept car that previewed it back during the 2006 Geneva show. Power will be identical to the other Phantom models, with 450 horses and 531 lb-ft of torque coming from the car's 6.75L V12. According to Rolls-Royce, the Phantom Coupe will be more driver-oriented than the sedan, with a shorter body and suspension/power tuning that places a slight emphasis on sport compared to its siblings. The Phantom Coupe will complete the Phantom lineup for Rolls-Royce, giving its customers a car for every occasion. It will be priced somewhere between the Phantom and Phantom Drophead Coupe.<br /><br /><img width="250" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="200" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/07rrphantom_abgarage-tease.jpg" alt="2007 Rolls Royce Phantom - Autoblog Garage" />This also seems like as good a time as any to inform you that we recently had the 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom in the Autoblog Garage (that's it at right). We refer to the customers who will be taking delivery of the first five Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupes, which rolled out of Goodwood this week. Each of the initial five cars shown above is fitted with the optional brushed steel bonnet trim and teak decking, making an already impressive car even more opulent. Meticulously hand-built, boasting a powerful 12-cylinder, mildly softer lines than the Phantom saloon, and rearward-swinging doors, the Drophead Coupe might well be <em>the</em> ultimate arrival vehicle -- big, bold and laden with panache. One thing's all but certain: when owners pull up to the valet in their new open-topped Rollers, chances are they'll be left right in front. This isn't one you hide in the back lot with the Toyotas, you see.<br /><br />[Source: Rolls-Royce]<br /><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/">2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/rr_phan_dhc_xhr_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/rr_phan_dhc_xhr_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/rr_phan_dhc_xhr_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/rr_phan_dhc_xhr_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/rr_phan_dhc_xhr_16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/20/first-customer-rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupes-ready-for-del/">First customer Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupes ready for delivery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 20 Jul 2007 20:04:00 EST. Some 6,000 Silver Ghosts were produced from 1907 to 1925 , and as you can see in the photo at right (click it to enlarge), they varied greatly in style. We're completely smitten with the wood-bodied boattail behind the group of owners in the middle of the photo (we zoomed in on it in the photo gallery below). <br /><br />To celebrate the Silver Ghost's 100th anniversary, Rolls-Royce is producing a highly-limited run of commemorative Phantoms. Dubbed the Phantom Silver, the car carries a &pound;22,000 premium over the standard Phantom and features a custom Ghost Silver finish. Its list of other specific features (follow the jump for full details) includes 21" wheels with chrome center caps, a solid silver Spirit of Ecstasy, a solid silver keyfob, white-faced gauges, a matching clock, and more.<br /><br />By the time you've read this, they'll probably all be spoken for. <br /><br />Press releases after the jump. <br /><br />[Source: Rolls-Royce]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/">Rolls-Royce Phantom Silver</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rrsivghostphantom002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rrsivghostphantom004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/rrsivghostphantom003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/silverghostcentenary_hires_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/rolls-royce-phantom-silver/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/silverghostboattail_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/01/rolls-royce-silver-ghost-turns-100-commemorative-phantom-unveil/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost turns 100, commemorative Phantom unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/01/rolls-royce-silver-ghost-turns-100-commemorative-phantom-unveil/">Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost turns 100, commemorative Phantom unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 01 Jun 2007 12:33:00 EST.
