It took two years to build it in reality, ten seconds of montage to put it together on screen, and about ten minutes to steal it. In a rare automotive example of life imitating art imitating life, the Nissan Skyline that Paul Walker drove in the latest Fast & Furious movie was stolen from its storage facility in Los Angeles.

Although dressed up to look like a full-on R34 GT-R for the movie, the car underneath was actually a lower-spec GT-S. Reports indicate that thieves, evidently knowing the car was inside, broke through a metal door and ripped off that specific car, leaving the rest but sideswiping a Studebaker and a Porsche Boxster on the way out. And to make matters worse, the car, valued at around $75,000, wasn't even insured. Considering the movie grossed $72.5 million in opening-weekend box office sales alone, we doubt the seventy-five grand will be terribly missed.

Amazing what a huge opening weekend at the box office can do. After debuting with a record-breaking $72.5 million haul in its first few days, the fourth installment, Fast & Furious tapered off a bit last week at $28 million, but that hasn't slowed the franchise one little bit.

In an interview on Friday with Los Angeles radio station 104.3MYfm, star Paul Walker said that a fifth installment is practically a sure thing now: "This was supposed to be it - but without question, Vin and I will be coming back, we're making the fifth one and we're going to Brazil." We hate to say we told you so, but... well, we did.

Based on the results of our previous poll, we're guessing that most of you will be up for another go assuming the trailers and buzz show it to be at least as good as the current film. But what do you think? Is a fifth installment with some Brazilian flair worth doing? Will you see it if they make it? Take our poll after the jump and let us know.

It may well be that in its fourth installment, Universal Pictures' 'Fast & Furious' franchise has finally hit its top speed. According to preliminary estimates by Media by Numbers, the Vin Diesel/Paul Walker/Jordana Brewster/Michelle Rodriguez street racing vehicle cranked out a shocking $72.5 million dollar payday over the weekend.

To put that in proper context, CNN reports that this figure is the best April film opening ever, blowing away 'Anger Management' at $42.2M, and it easily dusts the opening weekend of 'Fast 2 Furious" ($50.5M), previously the series' best outing. Perhaps most jarring is news that the $72.5M earnings would make it the best opening for a car-related movie ever.

One thing's for sure - with a showing like this, we're betting that Hollywood execs are already on the phones this morning commissioning scripts for a fifth film - if they don't have a drawer full of 'em already.

The Fast and Furious franchise started off with a monumental bang, but quickly became a bit of a drag. OK, the original Fast and Furious was pretty darn good, but the other two actually removed brain cells from all who watched them. Did the script go bad, or was it just a lack of Shaq Vin Diesel? Universal Studios is hoping for the latter, as Mr. Clean is back for the fourth installment of the tuner car series.

We've shown you a couple trailers so far, and after the jump are a few teaser minutes of the film that haven't been seen yet. Brian O'Connor's GT-R is fast and Dom Toretto's Chevelle SS is furious enough to magically flip some dude's ride over a bridge. We're pretty sure we won't be quoting Vin and Paul lines from Furious 4 after we see the movie, but some pretty sweet rides and the return of the Diesel should be enough to get us back into the theater.

Universal has just released the second theatrical trailer for what is sure to be an Oscar shoe-in next year: Fast & the Furious 4. Yes, it's the return of Dom Toretto and Brian O'Connor, a.k.a. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, to the roles that made them famous. The new trailer after the jump shows a nice romp through L.A. as O'Connor chases down a token bald and inked Latino man who must have done something really bad. We're then whooshed to the Mexican desert, where the combined forces of Diesel and Walker are required to... drive cars for some sort of larger purpose to which we're not yet privy. Sign us up!

Seriously, though, the first F&F was fun, the second cruel and unusual punishment and the third an interesting way to extend the franchise and make more money. The fourth will be epic, mark our words. We've already ordered tickets on Fandango. Follow the jump to watch the new teaser for yourself so you can agree with us out loud. Could it be? Could the fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious be... as good (we use that word loosely) as the first movie? Perhaps even good enough to make us forget the installments that followed, both of which tried to shoot poison darts through our eyes and into our brains? Too early to make predictions, but for now we can certainly enjoy the trailer, which is high on action and light on dialogue -- just like we like our action films. And unlike some other action trailers, the stunts will get your blood going but don't require you to believe that Jason Statham should be shooting laser beams out of his eyes. Filming on the Fast and Furious 4 film has been wrapped up for a few weeks. Despite that, fans will still have to wait until next summer to get their fill of Dom's return. However, that hasn't stopped the franchise from soaking up attention and generating some initial buzz a year early. The lead 2008 Subaru WRX, driven by one Paul Walker, has been making the rounds at automotive events recently. We first spotted it staked out front of the SpoCom show in Long Beach, CA back in June. Now it has turned up at a Motor Press Guild meeting in Los Angeles, CA. Thanks to reader Chad, we also have photos for proof. Surprising enough, the vehicle is not outrageously modified. It features Enkei NT03 wheels painted to resemble the Volk Time Attack series, Veilside seats, a harness bar, Cobb Tuning ECU flash tune, as well as a Veilside body kit that is subtle in comparison to their usual flair.

The WRX is just a sampling of what the next Fast and Furious film will have to offer, too. The story takes place somewhere between the second and third film of the series. As mentioned, it also features the resurgence of Vin Diesel, so we know some American-made rides will flex their muscle. In fact, the Buick Grand National is one that will get its due on the silver screen in FF4. Even though there is an utter lack of GN photos, be sure and check out the gallery below.

OntarioStreetCar caught sight of a transporter loaded with Detroit Muscle being used in the filming of the fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious saga, innovatively titled, Fast and Furious. This is one truck we'd gladly hijack with a crew of accomplices driving tuned Civics, as it's hauling, at minimum, a pair of Chargers, a Chevelle SS, and the wicked Torino GT you see above. Not included in the attached gallery are studio shots of Vin Diesel with a Grand National and yet another Chevelle, both of which you can see at OntarioStreetCar. The F&F films may be light on plot, but they're long on car porn, and we can say without a hint of embarassment that we are totally going to see this movie. Thanks to Jesse for the tip!

Our cinema-obsessed sister-site got the low down on the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, and since the plot and character development (or lack thereof) will be predictable enough, Universal decided to drop the "Four" from the title, so the new flick will simply be known as "Fast and Furious." But wait, there's less. The plot synopsis involves everyone's least-favorite tight-laced trooper, Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and the smash-happy Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) reigniting their feud, but putting bad blood aside to defeat a "shared enemy." The movie will take place in Los Angeles and Mexico, and despite his better angels, the film's director Justin Lin is considering another installment before retiring the series. Fast and Furious is due to hit theaters June 5, 2009. Mark your calendars in anticipation, or avoidance.

According to Inside Line, movie-goers should expect to see more tire-burning action from Hyundai's new Genesis Coupe than what's already been shown. It seems that the Korean car company has already sent Universal a bright red Genesis Coupe SE powered by the turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This news lends some credence to our opinion that the turbo mill will likely be the tuner's choice, though the big six cylinder is likely to be plenty for most drivers who don't want to modify their car. While we're not waiting on the edge of our seats for the fourth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, we think that it'll be pretty cool to see the Genesis Coupe alongside such performance-car stalwarts as the new Nissan GT-R and Subaru STI.

While not quite an eBay auction, the car is listed for sale at duPontREGISTRY.com. It is one of only 12 R34 GT-Rs that were brought in by the now defunct Motorex. This car is federally legalized, so no need to worry about it getting impounded, but folks in California still lose out as it does not have the necessary CARB requirements for registration.

The cost of ownership comes in at a hefty $140,000. This price encompasses enough goodies to evoke wet dreams from many a JDM fanboi. It comes fitted with parts such as a complete RB26DETT Tomei engine, twin HKS GT2530 ball bearing turbochargers, HKS intercooler, HKS F-CON V Pro engine management and a bunch of other things mostly labeled HKS or Tomei.

Great news everyone! Your favorite dynamic duo since George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell are back to make some more movie magic. That's right, Paul "Super-Fast-and-Super-Fly (for a white-guy)" Walker and his good buddy Vin "So-Furious-It-Hurts" Diesel will be making their first appearance on-screen together since the first installment of the cinematic masterpiece The Fast and the Furious. We're sure you'll agree that the second film was ultimately a let down, if only for the fact that Sir "2-Fast-4-U" Walker reprised his role while Mr. "Not-Quite-So-Furious-Anymore" Diesel did not. Although we were able to catch Diesel's drift in the movie number tré, the absence of the drift-less Walker left this particular moviegoer wanting. Now that we know the two are back together at last, the only question left unanswered is this: how could the fourth film be any Faster or more Furiouser than the first three? "The Fast and the Furious" movie series has not been kind to enthusiasts of American cars, with the exception of the moment in the first movie when Dom fires up his dad's Hemi-powered Charger (we won't even mention the hydraulically-assisted wheelie in the climatic scene, though). Therefore, we're not terribly surprised to hear the "hero" of the new film is a '67 Mustang that eventually sports a Nissan RB26DETT, a twin-turbo straight-six familiar to gearheads as the motivating force behind the fierce Skyline GT-R. A version sporting a 430-cube Ford small-block was used by Rhys Millen for most of the sideways action shots, but when Hot Rod Magazine lined the two different 'stangs up at a dragstrip, the rice-burner ran the quarter mile in 13.32 seconds and 109.83 MPH - over 1.2 seconds quicker and 13 MPH faster than the Blue Oval V8. Ouch.

Followers of the More Cubic Inches religion can take comfort in what was used behind the scenes, though...
