Auction Action: GT500KR KITTs already on the block

The Barrett-Jackson auctions have seen no shortage celebrity cars cross the block, but is the sale of a pair of KITTs at the upcoming Palm Beach event a sign that the series has already succumbed to its crushing craptasticality? Given the movie's ratings, that's unlikely. It seems, rather, that we're going to be stuck with NBC's awful retread of a not-very-good original, and these auctions appear to have been in the works for a while. The proceeds from the sale of auction lots 665 and 665.1 -- a "normal" and an Attack Mode KITT -- will benefit Ford's Salute to Education charity. While we can all hope that the new Knight Rider either gets better – at least to be as bad as the original would be laudable – or is put down mercifully, Ford's scholarship program will be the big winner when someone ponies up for these ponycars.

Field of Dreams: Exotics to gather in Florida for Supercar Weekend

If you live in South Florida, or can manage to get there, you may want to mark off the last weekend in January on your calendar. West Palm Beach is hosting what's being billed as the largest supercar show in the world, taking place along the waterfront from January 24-27, 2008.

The fouth annual Supercar Weekend invites collectors to showcase their own modern sportscars and classics along with a very Floridian array of mega-yachts docked along Flagler Drive in West Palm.

In previous years, the show included Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and Aston Martins by the dozen. Organizers expect this year's to be highlighted by a Bugatti Veyron, Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, a 1971 Lamborghini Miura and a 1967 Ford GT40 J6 racer, along with such personalities as well-known collector Jim Glickenhaus (father of the Pininfarina P4/5) and designer Henrik Fisker. Given the exotic wheels you can see running down South Florida's boulevards and highways on any ordinary day, the Palm Beach Supercar Weekend ought to be a real Woodstock for gearheads.

1st Foose Coupe for sale set for Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach

If you're interested in being the first person to lay hands on the new Foose Coupe, you'll want to make sure you're ready when Barrett-Jackson's Palm Beach shindig goes down later this month. The rights to the first car being sold to the public will be auctioned off to one of BJ's seemingly endless supply of deep-pockets bidders, and once the paperwork's all straightened out, the winner will be given the opportunity to meet with Chip Foose himself to select the car's color, interior, and the like.

The Foose Coupe, first shown at SEMA '06 as the "Hemisfear," is a carbon-fiber-bodied hot rod powered by a mid-mounted 392 HEMI crate motor dishing out 550 horsepower. Only 50 will be built, and it looks to be quite the badass machine, blending classic lines and modern tech to create a very desirable new toy for hedge fund managers everywhere.

Dr. Phil to divorce self from supercar addiction at Barrett-Jackson clinic

Being America's most popular shrink apparently doesn't mean you're immune to youthful indiscretions. Just ask Dr. Phil McGraw, who has partnered with auction-house Barrett-Jackson to clear his conscience-- and his garage, of two supercars.

The outspoken doc’s 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider and 2001 Gemballa Porsche 911 Turbo strike us as remarkably indulgent whips for a someone who comes off as pretty buttoned-up, but then again, perhaps that’s why he’s selling them. Regardless of rationale, the pair are set to go under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson's fourth-annual Collector Car event beginning March 30 in Palm Beach, Florida.
