It would appear Nissan may be following the same plan with the development of its GT-R. Rather than sit around and let the car's development go cold, Nissan is continuing to refine its bargain supercar slayer. <br /><br />N&uuml;rburgring watchers have noticed a seemingly base model GT-R lapping the track lately. There's camo on the front and rear fascias - somewhat strange for a car that's been released for public consumption - so the folks at <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/2009/04/25/next-nissan-gt-r-spied-testing-at-nurburgring/">gtrblog</a> took a closer look. <br /><br />While it may look innocuous enough, the latest GT-R o be snapped on its German vacation has aerodynamic pieces that are subtly different, leading gtrblog to come to the conclusion that this is probably thee 2011 version of Nissan's Godzilla. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jim!</em><br /><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/2009/04/25/next-nissan-gt-r-spied-testing-at-nurburgring/">gtrblog.com</a>]<br /><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/spy-shots-2011-nissan-gt-r-spotted-testing-at-nurburgring/">Spy Shots: 2011 Nissan GT-R spotted testing at Nürburgring?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 10:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
Enough is never enough. Not when you're talking supercars and N&uuml;rburgring lap times. As if enough jaws weren't dropped when Nissan posted their fantastic<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/nissan-taking-2010-gt-r-back-to-the-ring/"> initial time of 7:29 around the vaunted Nordschleife</a> (besting Porsche's best), the automaker's engineers went back to the garage looking for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/2009-nissan-gt-r-to-get-5-hp-bump-and-tweaks-in-japan/">a little extra for 2010</a>. They came back with a slightly updated version, with five extra horsepower and revised dual-clutch transmission with updated launch control, plus a bigger fuel tank, new tires and a retuned suspension. So <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/nissan-taking-2010-gt-r-back-to-the-ring/">what effect would these modifications have on the GT-R's 'Ring run?</a> About a second and a half off the record, which now stands for the Japanese supercar at an awe-inspiring 7:27.56.<br /><br />According to Nissan, the time was posted using a 2010 GT-R with the optional V-Spec wheels and tires, driven by former F1 tester Toshio Suzuki. Fantastic as that time is, it's still another second short of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/video-gm-releases-corvette-zr1s-7-26-4-ring-attack/">Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's 7:26.4</a> (to say nothing of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/unofficial-dodge-viper-acr-laps-ring-in-record-7-22-1-w-video/">Dodge Viper ACR's 7:22.1</a>), so Nissan will be back at it. And without the dirt and dust which the Japanese team says was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/20/video-godzilla-as-snow-monster-gt-r-dons-blizzaks-runs-nords/">coating the track to impede its lap time</a>, they figure they just might find enough extra speed to claim the record. Details in the press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-gt-r-sets-7-27-56-ring-lap-time/low/">2010 Nissan GT-R sets 7:27.56 Ring lap time</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-gt-r-sets-7-27-56-ring-lap-time/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/gt-ring1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-gt-r-sets-7-27-56-ring-lap-time/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/gt-ring2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-nissan-gt-r-sets-7-27-56-ring-lap-time/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/gt-ring3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Nissan]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/16/revised-nissan-gt-r-clocks-7-27-56-lap-time-at-the-nurburgring/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revised Nissan GT-R clocks 7:27.56 lap time at the Nürburgring </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/16/revised-nissan-gt-r-clocks-7-27-56-lap-time-at-the-nurburgring/">Revised Nissan GT-R clocks 7:27.56 lap time at the Nürburgring </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 16 Apr 2009 12:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Nissan GT-R SpecV - Click above for high-res gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />At this point, it's clear that a good showing at the N&uuml;rburgring is of the utmost importance to any automaker with supercar ambitions. Contestants ranging from Porsche, Nissan, Chevrolet and Dodge have all visited the famed German racetrack to try and set a new fast lap record, despite the fact that none of these test sessions are officially recorded by anyone other than the automakers themselves. <br /><br />Back in mid-2008 when the GT-R was first establishing its formidable credibility, Nissan's Chief Test Driver, Toshio Suzuki, took Godzilla to a lap time of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">7 minutes, 29 seconds</a>. That mark has since been eclipsed by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/video-gm-releases-corvette-zr1s-7-26-4-ring-attack/">Corvette ZR1</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/unofficial-dodge-viper-acr-laps-ring-in-record-7-22-1-w-video/">Dodge Viper ACR</a>, but Nissan's supercar may have a bit more to offer in its latest guise for 2009. Plus, the even hotter <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/nissan-gt-r-specv-details-live-images-and-video/">SpecV</a> will also hit the market in very short order, featuring larger brakes, less weight and a slight bump in power thanks to a turbocharger overboost function.<br /><br />Will Suzuki-san be able to shave enough time to best the Viper's 7:22 in either the standard-fare GT-R or the high-test SpecV? We'll find out for sure next month when Nissan puts on a full court press at the Green Hell in search of those elusive few seconds it needs for ultimate bragging rights.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/">Nissan GT-R SpecV Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/01_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/02_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/03_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/04_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-gt-r-specv-live/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/05_nissan_gtr_specv_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gtrblog.com/index.php/2009/03/09/gtrblog-interviews-toshio-suzuki-lord-of?blog=4#more1049">GTRBlog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/10/report-nissan-headed-to-ring-in-april-in-search-of-new-gt-r-an/">REPORT: Nissan headed back to 'Ring in search of new GT-R and GT-R SpecV lap times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 17:56:00 EST. Contrary to a previous report that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/20/nissan-drops-launch-control-from-2010-gt-r/ ">Nissan intends to drop Launch Control</a> from the 2010 GT-R, Motor Trend's blog is reporting that no decision has been made yet and we've heard the same thing from Nissan itself. The bigger point that MT goes on to make is that even without Launch Control, the GT-R is still brutally fast. When the magazine got its first crack at the R35, testers did an acceleration run just for giggles with all the electronics aids active except for Launch Control. The result? 3.9 seconds to 60 mph by just mashing the skinny pedal all the way down. That's enough speed to keep the GT-R running in the same pack with which it's already been lumped, and with the computers doing the work, there's no risk of stalling at launch and getting smoked by a '93 Duster. So what've we learned? Without risking a $20,000 transmission replacement, the GT-R is still a rocket. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.motortrend.com/6356422/technology/so-just-how-slow-is-a-nissan-gt-r-without-launch-control-engaged/index.html">Motor Trend</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/nissan-gt-r-will-do-3-9-second-0-60-em-without-em-launch-cont/">Nissan GT-R will do 3.9-second 0-60 <em>without</em> Launch Control</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 14:28:00 EST. <p>With a 7:29 lap time, Nissan contends its GT-R is the King of the 'Ring. What better place, then, to introduce the new supercar to its European owners than the track infamously known as the Green Hell? </p>
<p>In conjunction with the Silverstone International racing school, Nissan is taking some 1,300 European GT-R customers to the Nurburgring over the course of 19 days to take ownership of their vehicles with some performance driving tutelage. The program at the 'Ring follows a similar one held for 500 British customers at Silverstone, the former host of the British Grand Prix. According to Nissan and Silverstone International, about half of the participants had taken some sort of advanced driving course before, but the overwhelming majority of them said the GT-R Academy was the best they'd experienced. We're still waiting for Nissan NA to offer something similar at Laguna, Road America or Miller Motorsports park. Just sayin'.<br /></p>

<br />As expected, Nissan has responded to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/porsche-accuses-nissan-gt-r-of-cheating-the-ring/">Porsche's claims</a> that the GT-R isn't quite as fast as they say it is. In fact, representatives for the German automaker suggested that Nissan may have used racing slicks to achieve the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">7:29:03</a> lap time of the N&uuml;rburgring. Says Nissan, "The final word from us is that it was done on absolutely standard tires which are available to customers in the showroom. They're not trick tires - absolutely standard tires, normal road tires." <br /><br />Despite the allegations, Nissan is remaining calm about the issue, adding that the fast time was set by its racing driver, Tochio Suzuki, and achieved using the GT-R's optional Dunlop tires. Could it be that Porsche purchased a model with the slightly slower Bridgestones? Maybe, but can having the right tires could account for a 25-second lap time difference? In any case, Nissan's taking the high-road, falling short of suggesting that Porsche's drivers are slow. <em>Thanks for the tip, Ed</em>!<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=25331">The Nissan GT-R Owners Club</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/nissan-defends-gt-r-ring-time/">Nissan defends GT-R 'Ring time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 12:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><strong><em><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />Sour grapes or legitimate complaint? That's the question we're left pondering after reading that Porsche believes Nissan must have cheated to record its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">7:29:03</a> lap time of the famed N&uuml;rburgring race circuit. Porsche claims that it had been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/22/round-1-gt-r-vs-911-turbo-at-the-ring-advantage-gt-r/">suspicious</a> of the Nissan's lap times, so it acquired a U.S.-spec GT-R for testing back-to-back with its own 911 Turbo and GT2. The result? The mighty Godzilla was toppled by the Teutonic German duo, with the GT-R posting times a good 25-seconds slower than Nissan's claim. <br /><br />How can Porsche explain the discrepancy? "This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car. For us, it's not clear how this time is possible. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tires," says August Achleitner, the man in charge of the 911 program. There is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/01/video-nissan-gt-r-7-29-ring-run/">footage of the GT-R</a> lapping the 'Ring at high speed, but it's taken from inside the car where the tires cannot be seen.<br /><br />Considering the fact that Nissan saw fit to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/01/gt-r-drops-ring-time-down-to-7-29/">issue a press release</a> commemorating the car's fast-lap, we doubt this is something that will be taken lightly. There's a big can 'o worms here, and Porsche's in the corner holding the opener.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/">Review: 2009 Nissan GT-R</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-nissan-gtr/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/nissanskylinegtr_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/motoring-news/story/porsche_accuses_nissan_of_cheating_at_nurburgring/">Carsguide</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/porsche-accuses-nissan-gt-r-of-cheating-the-ring/">Porsche accuses Nissan GT-R of cheating the 'Ring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 09:02:00 EST. <p>We've seen dozens of videos of the new Nissan GT-R at the Nurburgring, but this one comes from an inside perspective as an in-car camera shows the driver as well as on-board telemetry. We <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/22/round-1-gt-r-vs-911-turbo-at-the-ring-advantage-gt-r/">reported earlier</a> that the GT-R could finish the course in just 7 minutes and 38 seconds, 2 seconds ahead of a Porsche 911 Turbo, and this video provides the proof.</p>

While the back still remains somewhat obscured, the front leaves about as much to the imagination as a Dita Von Teese spread in <em>Maxim</em>.<br /><br />The talk of late was that Nissan's boffins hoped to beat the GT-R's main rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo, around the North Loop during testing. But according to the folks at KGP, they've set their sights higher and are looking to match the time of the Porsche Carrera GT. That's a loft goal considering that the Turbo does the deed in 7:40, while the Carrera GT (with Walter Roehl behind the wheel) can complete a lap of the 'Ring a full 12 seconds faster. We wish both Nissan and their hired hot-shoes the best of luck.<br /><br />[Source: Straightline]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/25/but-wait-theres-more-nissan-gt-r-at-the-ring-gunning-for-th/">But wait, there's more!
