18Rutter breaks electric ton for MotoCzysz at 2012 TT Zero

The electric ton, she is broken. The magical 100 mile per hour lap speed was shattered during the SES TT Zero when Michael Rutter officially completed a circuit of the Isle of Man's 37.73-mile Snaefell mountain course at an average 104.056 mph aboard the 2012 edition of the Team Segway MotoCzysz E1pc. Besides securing a place in history, Rutter and MotoCzysz also collected a check for £10,000 ($15,490 U.S. at today's rates).

We are astonished. No, not because Team Segway MotoCzysz has just revealed its 2012 version of the E1pc and it looks pretty amazing. We expected that. Rather, we are somewhat stunned that the cultural impact of certain aspects of Kim and Khloe Kardashian's um, prominent physical attributes has just expanded into the geeky green world of electric motorcycle racing. 21MotoGP to return to 1000cc format, MotoCzysz back in the mix?

After a few years experimenting with 800cc engines in MotoGP, the Grand Prix Commission has just announced a switch back to 1000cc powerplants with the added caveat that they must have bore centers of 81 millimeters. These new regulations are set to go into effect for the 2012 racing season, and at least one small player is happy about the change. On the official MotoCzyst blog, Michael Czysz wrote:

The more we see and hear about the entrants for the upcoming TTXGP race at the Isle of Man, the more excited we are at the prospect of zero emissions electric motorcycles. One of the machines attracting the most attention is the MotoCzysz E1pc, which could potentially become the basis of a new range of electric motorcycles based on a single platform.

Assuming testing goes off without too much drama, MotoCzysz plans to enter an electric motorcycle in the upcoming TTXGP zero-emissions time trial at the Isle of Man. Motorcycle Daily got the chance to talk to Michal Czysz about the new development, and a few interesting tidbits were gleaned.
