Ready or not, here comes Transformers 4. The Huffington Post reports that Transformers directory Michael Bay has signed a contract with Paramount Pictures to extend the money-minting movie franchise. Yeah, we know. Most everyone says the movies are terrible, with the exception of some eye-popping (yet very overdone) CGI.

It's hard to blame Paramount or Bay for going back to the well for more Autobot love. After all, the movies gross hundreds of millions of dollars, which makes us think that at least some of you are ponying up at the local movie theater.

As for Shia LaBeouf and the rest of the Transformers cast, word is that they will not be back for movie number four. But you can bet that Bumblebee, Optimus and the remaining cast of bad guys will be back. Bay claims the movie will hit the big screen on June 29, 2014, but there is no script at this point. Many will no doubt debate that there will be no script on June 30, 2014, either.
Michael Bay confirms Transformers 4, replacing entire human cast originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 16 Feb 2012 10:00:00 EST.
Video games are big business. Titles like Call of Duty can reach a billion dollars or more in sales, but racing games typically don't fare quite as well. Maybe that's why the Need For Speed team developed The Run; a cross-country thriller that combines fast cars, beautiful-yet-pixelated women (with real-life swimsuit model voices and Christina Hendricks) and abundant out-of-the-car action.

To show just how serious Electronic Arts is about Need for Speed: The Run, the franchise went to box-office ATM machine Michael Bay to cut the game trailer. Bay may not make the most critically acclaimed movies of all time, but they make serious bank, and he knows how to whip up the pre-release excitement with killer trailers.

Hit the jump to watch the action-packed trailer he cut together for The Run, then stay for a second video that gives a behind the scenes look at how Bay and his team assembled the teaser.
Continue reading Michael Bay takes a whack at Need For Speed: The Run trailer

Michael Bay takes a whack at Need For Speed: The Run trailer originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 05 Nov 2011 18:02:00 EST.
Let's take a stroll into a parallel universe for a spell; one where Michael Bay doesn't soak his Transformers films in vats of teenage testosterone for a fortnight. What would that realm look like? Chances are the mighty Bumblebee wouldn't be a pre-production Chevrolet Camaro. After all, here in real-life, the average teenager is stuck driving something a little more pedestrian, even if he is saddled with saving the world. We're thinking something along the lines of the Chevrolet Cruze. Apparently, China is where this alternate universe manifests itself, because General Motors has just released a Bumblebee Edition Cruze in the People's Republic.

The car comes with a suitably yellow paint scheme with black accent stripes, as well as an Autobot insignia on the fenders, wheel caps and spread around the interior. Speaking of the insides, illuminated Transformers sill plates are standard fare as well. The standard 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the only available powerplant.

For what it's worth, this isn't the world's first Bumblebee Cruze, though it is the first to use the proper yellow and black color scheme. Check out this somewhat less successful example for all the details.
Chevrolet unleashes Bumblebee Cruze in China originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 19:29:00 EST.
The attached video explains it all, so we'll keep this simple. It seems Michael Bay directly cribbed scenes from his 2005 movie, The Island, for 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is gobbling up people's disposable income this weekend.

Extreme credit goes to the YouTube user who recognized Bay's clever use of CGI and called him out on it. This also proves that at least one human being actually saw The Island. Hit the jump to watch the side-by-side video comparison.
Continue reading YouTube uploader catches Michael Bay sampling himself for Transformers 3

YouTube uploader catches Michael Bay sampling himself for Transformers 3 originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 02 Jul 2011 11:14:00 EST.
The next installment in the Transformers franchise is set to hit theaters on Tuesday, June 28. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon will continue the trend of providing a massive stage on which to showcase General Motors vehicles. One of those vehicles in the Michael Bay explosion-fest is a yellow Chevrolet Camaro that goes by the name Bumblebee, and the banana-and-black Autobot is set to spawn a special edition automobile that fans can put in their driveway.

It's called the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro, and you can order one starting in July. If you do so, your Bumblebee decoy will arrive on dealer lots sometime this fall. The Transformers Camaro wears Autobot badges on the fenders, black stripes down the hood, roof and tail, a Bumblebee-specific rear spoiler and blacked-out 20-inch alloys sporting Autobot-logo center caps. Dealers will also be able to offer and install a ground-effects package and a set of 21-inch wheels so that customers can more closely mimic the on-screen Camaro.

The interior of the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro also gets unique accents. Black leather surfaces are contrasted with yellow stitching, while Autobot logos can be seen on the headrests and center console lid.

Interested in picking one up? You'll have to start with either a 2LT or 2SS Camaro that's already wearing the RS appearance package. Tack on another $3,000, and you can drive like Shia Labeouf every day.
Continue reading 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Edition ready to hit the street

2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Edition ready to hit the street originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 11:29:00 EST.
Transformers fans saw a little treat get tucked amongst the slew of high-dollar ads during last night's Super Bowl. Michael Bay and company unleashed another solid glimpse at the next film in the mighty morphing machine saga with a trailer for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. Judging by the quick clip, we can look forward to more of what made the first two flicks so enjoyable to begin with: intense CG fight scenes, massive destruction and more than a few slow-motion moments.

Shia Labeouf also makes a return appearance.

Labeouf's new co-star, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, also makes a brief appearance during the trailer. We'll reserve judgment on whether or not she's a suitable replacement for Megan Fox until we actually see the movie. Just don't blink during the trailer or you'll miss Huntington-Whitley entirely. You can hit the jump to check out the video for yourself. Also be sure to take a look at a slew of production stills courtesy of AB pal CEOFR. Thanks for the video tip, Ace!

We've already seen plenty of action on the set of the third installment in the Transformers. Unplanned accidents and injured cast members seemed to dominate the news, but now the film is heading into post-production and we can get a glimpse at what type of action to expect on the big screen. The first trailer has been released for Transformers: Dark of the Moon and we can honestly say the teaser does a good job at raising our excitement level for the new film... even though we know it's going to suck as bad as the last two.

The trailer shows the 1969 Moon landing in glorious HD, but also reveals a secret motive behind the mission. We won't spoil it for you, so just jump and try to figure out how this relates to cars... again.

Please excuse us while we take a little trip down TMZ lane. Word on the web is we now know who will be replacing Megan Fox in the next scintillating Transformers flick. Shia Labeouf will be locking lips with none other than Rosie Huntington-Whitley. Who is that, exactly? Good question. Huntington-Whiteley has spent the majority of her days prancing down a runway in her unmentionables as a Victoria Secret model. The best part? The 23 year-old model-turned actress doesn't have a drop of acting experience. The jokes write themselves.

Fox was reportedly kicked out of the story line to give the main character a new love interest, though rumor was that the actress had also spent her off time berating director Michael Bay for any number of perceived character flaws. Our guess is Bay got tired of hearing the insults and told Fox to take a hike. Now back to your regularly scheduled content.

For all the talk of heavyweight star power, in all but the most extreme cases, it is directors that have the most power on the set, not the celebrities. That's apparently how it happens that Michael Bay has removed Megan Fox from Transformers 3, who is said to have insulted Bay at almost every chance she got, calling him Hitler, Napoleon, a "nightmare to work for," and "hopelessly awkward." Actually, that last comment she meant to be a compliment.

The official line is that Fox was cut because "giving Shia a new love interest makes more sense for the story." If you buy that one of the most popular features of the franchise needed to be replaced - or that Sam Witwicky was looking for a hotter, more badass accomplice, well, we've got a few other things we'd like to sell you. We'll wait to find out who Michael Bay's got in mind to replace her, and who knows - casting hopefuls might be busy learning how to wash his Ferrari as we speak...

We're gearing up for the release of Transformers 3, even though it won't be hitting the big screen until July 1, 2011. And while the second installment of the Transformers series didn't exactly thrill us with its storyline, there's no arguing that the awesome graphics made for a pretty decent summer blockbuster.

But now, there's a new reason to get excited. At a Ferrari charity event this week, director Micheal Bay confirmed that the sexy, pulse-quickening 458 Italia will join the cast of Autobots. We can't wait to see Ferrari's new stunner put into action, especially along equally appealing co-star, Megan Fox. Hubba hubba. Thanks for the tip, John!

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen - click above for high-res gallery

We may have found this summer's blockbuster, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen to be heavy on the sizzle and lean on the meat, but that doesn't mean we've written off the series - after all, it's hard to dismiss excellent CG work, the childhood toys of our youth... to say nothing of that siren Megan Fox.

Thankfully, director Michael Bay informs us via his official website that the next installment is already in the works, and it's been assigned a release date - July 1 of 2011. That's a long time from now, granted, but Bay intimates in his blog post that Megan Fox has already signed on for the TF3 project, and hopefully Shia LaBeouf will make the scene too. Bay is already meeting with Hasbro to discuss new characters, so we'd expect a few new transforming automobiles to show up as well.

Here's hoping that they have enough time to craft a script that lives up to the special effects.

Gallery: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

[Source: MichaelBay.com]
Mark Your Calendars: Michael Bay says Transformers 3 coming... on July 1, 2011 originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 02 Oct 2009 17:29:00 EST. Got a minute? Literally, just a minute, 'cause you're going to want to see this. And then you're going to want to know where you can get one for Halloween.

Crafting a suit to look like a Transformer is one thing, but this video, apparently taken at a Chevrolet dealership in Mexico, shows a guy in a Bumblebee suit that actually transforms into a Camaro! Okay, so it's not a real Camaro. It doesn't drive, it doesn't chase after Megan Fox or save the planet from evil robots from outer space. For that, you need Michael Bay and a whole lotta CGI. But short of that, this is about as freakin' awesome as it gets.
Yesterday, not long after we posted a story about a gay-centered General Motors marketing video for Chevrolet's new Camaro, the video was mysteriously pulled from YouTube. As it turns out, GM itself has copped to the disappearing act, as it reportedly ordered the popular video hosting site to yank the footage.

According to a USA Today article, GM spokesman Dave Barthmuss felt that the video - which featured a pair of so-called 'go go boys in Camaro-branded underwear washing a new 2010 model - was "not appropriate and not in good taste." The footage was filmed as part of a Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen gay day promotion at a Hollywood movie theater.

Despite pulling the video, GM has reportedly launched a more concerted campaign to broaden the scope of its marketing efforts as it applies to the Camaro, with more overt efforts to target gays, bisexuals and the transgendered. It is not immediately clear what (if any) effect pulling the footage will have on the rest of the automaker's p.r. efforts.

[Sources: USA Today; Mlive]
FOLLOWUP: GM orders YouTube to remove "tasteless" gay Camaro promo video? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 14:32:00 EST.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Click above for image gallery

Michael Bay may never win the Best Director Oscar, but he sure does know how to get the most out of his actors during their auditions. U.K. broadcaster Jason Solomons wrote in a recent column that Bay had Ms. Megan Fox wash his (unspecified) Ferrari at his home as part of her audition for her role in the first Transformers movie. And since Bay was doing "official" auditions, he apparently recorded every minute of it.

Solomons reportedly asked Fox if she knew where the footage was, and he says she was unsure where the footage was, adding that she was "concerned" as to where it may be. According to Solomons, Bay all but confirmed the tape's existence, allegedly saying "Er, I don't know where it is either" when asked by the broadcaster. Hmmm.

Since the role of Mikaela Banes required Fox to act as sexy as she already looks, we can see why Bay chose for her to wash a Ferrari as part of the audition, but the fact that the 'audition' took place at his home and the tape has gone missing does seem a bit "casting couch" to us. That said, we can think of few things we'd rather see than Megan Fox, a Ferrari, and a bunch of suds. What we don't understand, though, is why this footage wasn't part of our bonus footage in our special edition Transformers DVD.

Gallery: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

[Source: SFGate]
Michael Bay filmed Megan Fox washing his Ferrari as part of her Transformers audition?! originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 10:57:00 EST.
We didn't much care for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen when we went out and saw it on opening night, but we're still smitten by the concept of robots that transform into all manner of vehicular machinery. In Michael Bay's new flick, motorcycles may have taken a more prominent role than in the past, but we prefer the classic Norton Commando in the short clip after the break to the two-wheeled robotic movie machines.

Composed and rendered by Steve Twist, a student from Bournemouth University gunning for his undergraduate degree in Computer Visualisation and Animation, this eight-month project looks to be time well spent to our eyes. Better still, in our heads, this is exactly what an old Norton motorcycle would sound like if it could talk.

Perhaps Twist can get in touch with Bay to instill at least a modicum of realism for the inevitable Transformers 3? Nah, probably not. Click past the break to watch the video.

[Source: Motorcycle News]
Continue reading VIDEO: Norton Commando Transformer is more than meets the eye

VIDEO: Norton Commando Transformer is more than meets the eye originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 14:58:00 EST.
We played with Transformers as kids and have a considerable appetite for anything automotive, making the second installment of the Transformers film franchise a must watch in an otherwise uninspiring summer blockbuster season. While we didn't dare hope for a compelling story line, we were pretty sure Director Michael Bay wouldn't let us down with regards to special effects. We hit the theater to see if Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen lived up to the considerable hype, and basically got exactly what we expected. Hit the jump to check out our brief review.

Gallery: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Continue reading Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Better action, worse storyline

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Better action, worse storyline originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 12:57:00 EST.
The idea behind building a stunning performance car like the new Chevy Camaro is as much about selling the car itself as it is about casting a bright light on the rest of the automaker's range. The muscle car in the window may bring you into the dealership, but you're more likely to walk out with something more practical. Say, a Cruze, for example.

That's what happened with one customer in China, where the price of an imported Camaro is, according to one report at least, the equivalent of a whopping $200,000. Having apparently geeked out like the rest of us at Michael Bay's blockbuster hit Transformers, the customer looks to have fallen in love with Bumblebee like that little punk Shia LeBeouf with Megan Fox (who really should be with a certain blogger whose name starts with an "N" and ends with an "oah"), but...where were we? Oh yeah, the Chinese fan gave his Chevy Cruze the full Bumblebee treatment, which looks to have involved a bit more than just plastering on some racing stripes. Check it out in the gallery below.

Gallery: Chevrolet Cruze with Bumblebee treatment

[Source: China Car Times I Images: Club.Sohu.com]
Chinese-market Chevrolet Cruze transformed into Camaro-aping baby Bumblebee originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 11:29:00 EST.
For those who can't get enough of Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, and gigantic interstellar shape-shifting robots, Hollywood director Michael Bay is here to help. He's released a trio of new television spots for the upcoming summer blockbuster, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Our tester looked a bit too much the like the real deal, with a white-on-black paint job, working light bar and even a set of bumper bars. Thus, we can sympathize with Jessie Vigil, a Las Vegas resident and disabled Iraq war veteran who transformed his 2007 Mustang into Barricade, the evil Decepticon from the Transformers movie. What would possess a man to turn his Mustang into a movie prop? Well, his 7-year-old son really liked the movie, so now he's got a full-scale Transformers toy.

Vigil created his cop car the right way by first contacting the local authorities and asking if his project were legal. While the Chief Deputy District Attorney discouraged him from doing it, there was nothing on the books that expressly forbade it. The only thing the law prohibits is impersonating an officer, and it was decided Vigil didn't fit that description for two reasons. One, the car is a Mustang and apparently Las Vegas police have no Mustangs in their fleet. Two, the police themselves sell their old cruisers without repainting them, so there's already lots of vehicles running around with white-on-black paint jobs. There are other signs this Decepticon is a dud as well, like the many movie-related vinyl graphics and the totally fake light bar.

While most locals know the car by now, authorities are still concerned that drivers on the interstate might get confused and ask Vigil for help. If we learned anything from Michael Bay's opus last summer, it's don't ask a Mustang cop car for help. They're the evil ones. Thanks for the tip, SwissFreek!

[Source: Fox News, Photo: AP/Las Vegas Optic]
Man's Decepticon Mustang is above the law originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 10:33:00 EST. We went a little bit overboard in the six months (maybe a year) leading up the Transformers movie. It's hard for us not to love a movie that includes a Mustang vs. Camaro battle scene and a seriously bad-ass Optimus Prime. If you were with (the few of -Ed.) us panging in anticipation of the first Transformers movie, you'll appreciate the fact that Michael Bay already has a countdown to the second installment of what will likely be a long-running movie franchise.

According to Mr. Bay's countdown to Transformers 2, the date to remember is June 26, 2009. That's about 470 days from now, which will give us plenty of time to start <strike>stalking</strike> begging Bay to throw in a Camaro vs. Mustang vs. Challenger battle to the death. It does scare us that the movie arrives closer to the (supposed) launch of the Chevy Volt. We're really excited about the car, but if one of the Autobots has to plug in the middle of a fight scene, we'll be pissed.

[Source: Michael Bay via Winding Road]
Transformers 2 is so on for June 2009, Michael Bay countdown clock confirms originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 12 Mar 2008 09:56:00 EST.
