German tuning company MTM doesn't necessarily do things the conventional way. Remember the Bimoto, the twin-engined Audi TT that could hit 244 mph? Yeah, different. That's why we weren't surprised to see this modified Audi R8 come across our desks. MTM has done some conventional tuning with the car - like supercharging the 4.2-liter V8 - but it's also performed a procedure we've yet to see. The front-wheel drive portion of the Quattro system has been removed, making the car a pure rear-driver. According to MTM, this change provides a "complete new driving experience behind the Audi steering wheel and pure driving pleasure."

To share this experience with their customers, MTM is now offering a GT3-2 conversion for any V8-powered Audi R8. The package includes the aforementioned supercharger system, which is good for 560 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque, carbon fiber aero parts, larger front and rear brakes, adjustable Bilstein suspension, MTM's unique Bimoto forged wheels and more. Hit the jump for more details and check out the high-res images in the gallery below.
As cool as owning an Audi R8 may be, the German supercar is becoming common enough that in tonier markets, you may just pass another one on your daily commute. Chances are you'll even pass one in the same color, which might make the ownership experience slightly less special for the driver. That particular dilemma is what the aftermarket has always thrived on. German tuner MTM has already shown that they are more than capable of adding extra oomph to your ride to help make it stand out from the crowd, but with their latest project, they are also showing how a simple change of color can work wonders in giving your prized ride a whole new aura.

While Porsche purists might question the decision, this particular MTM Audi R8R has been done up in Porsche GT3 (2D8) green, and it's a minty-fresh looker. With a subtle aero kit, new MTM Bimoto rims and a blower that helps it match its corporate cousin the Lamborghini LP560-4, this particular project has more than a little extra snap. The real draw here, however, is the hue, done to show how far personalization can go if you bring your baby to MTM. There's a full press release covering the tuner's new individualization program after the jump and a gallery of high-res pics below for you to enjoy.

Gallery: MTM Audi R8 in Porsche GT3 green

[Source: MTM]
Continue reading MTM adopts Porsche GT3 green for latest force-fed Audi R8R

MTM adopts Porsche GT3 green for latest force-fed Audi R8R originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST.
MTM has been adding horsepower to Audis for more than 20 years, and they have put that experience into developing a new twin-screw supercharger system that pairs up to the 4.2-liter V8 in the Audi R8. The addition of forced induction brings total output to 552 hp, coincidentally matching the output of the R8's cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. In addition to the supercharger kit, MTM also offers a complete line of products for the R8 including brake upgrades, 20" forged wheels, high-flow exhaust system, and a variety of exterior style upgrades. A gallery of high resolution images can be found below and hit the jump for the complete spec sheet.

The Audi R8 is apparently a tempting platform for tuners. We've seen sketches of the Abt Audi R8, we spotted the APR Audi R8 at the 2007 SEMA Show, and we recently took a look at the carbon fiberized PPI Audi R8.

MTM, those crazy Germans who built the twin-engine, 740-hp Audi TT Bimoto, brought their own version of the R8 to the Dubai Motor Show. Although visually subtle, a turbocharger system has been added to the 4.2-liter V8 for a total of 888 bhp and 610 lb-ft torque. 0-60 mph can be achieved in 3.0 seconds flat, and top speed is limited to 223 mph. MTM built the car, fittingly named the R888, as a one-off for a European customer, but they will gladly build more of them for a mere €280,000 each.
