It's Godzillapalooza time boys and girls! More precisely, the day before the 2010 Nissan GT-R had to go back, my buddy Steve asked if I could give him a ride in the Skyline. Well, he'd actually been calling since two weeks before the car showed up, but anyhow, Steve is a filmmaker and he showed up camera in hand. Our plan, quite honestly, was just a quick blast across some empty freeways and nothing more. But then we saw the exit for Angeles Crest Highway and even though it was amateur day (Sundays = dozens of motorcycles riding off sheer cliffs in front of cops) we figured Steve should see Godzilla eat a canyon. Plus, after you get a few miles up you can turn left off Angeles Crest onto Angeles Highway, a much less congested (and some would argue better) road.

What happened next is one of the many reasons I'm never leaving Southern California. Stuck behind a pickup truck is a veritable supercar parade. From front to back: Ferrari F355 Spyder, Ferrari F430 Spyder, <strike>Mothra</strike> BMW M6, Dodge Viper SRT10, Ferrari F430 Spyder. I can't say for certain, but I think Godzilla was smiling. Eventually the truck pulled over and it was on. Well, OK, we got stuck behind the slow Ferrari, but it was still quite fun.

We all stopped for lunch where we asked the drivers if the matching Ferrari shirts add 5 horsepower. Then we hopped back in the cars, but not before I announced that the Nissan would be running mid-pack. The Viper driver yelled, "Try to keep up!" Little did he know I was wearing my high performance flip-flops. Thanks to Steve for filming and cutting the video: follow the jump to watch it.
Continue reading VIDEO: 2010 Nissan GT-R makes supercar friends

VIDEO: 2010 Nissan GT-R makes supercar friends originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 14:28:00 EST.
G-Power M6 Hurricane CS - Click above for a high-res image gallery

The G-Power crew is constantly striving to produce the most insane BMWs on the planet, combining forced induction with thoroughly revised suspensions and aerodynamics to attain completely unreasonable speeds. It's latest creation, the M6 Hurricane CS, takes the standard set by its M5-based Hurricane RS, and straps a duo of superchargers onto the 5.0-liter V10, boosting the coupe's output to 740 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Combined with a remapped ECU and a titanium exhaust, along with carbon fiber seats and a few other tweaks to reduce the curb weight by around 100 pounds, the CS can run to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, to 124 mph in 9.6 seconds, 187 in 26 seconds and on to a claimed top speed of 230 mph - making it the fastest road-going BMW coupe on Earth.

In addition to the twin superchargers and bespoke body-kit, G-Power fitted the CS with carbon ceramic brakes at all four corners, with the front discs measuring in at 380mm and clamped by six-piston calipers. A coil-over suspension with nine adjustable settings joins front and rear anti-roll bars, and for a scant 390,000 euros, it can be yours. All the details can be found in the press release below the fold.

Gallery: G-Power M6 Hurricane CS

Continue reading The world's fastest BMW coupe? 230 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS

The world's fastest BMW coupe? 230 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 18:32:00 EST. Case in point: this burgundy BMW M6 sitting under what appears to be months worth of silt. Judging from the plates, the lonely 500-hp coupe is parked in Dubai where it has seen more than its share of days (and dust clouds), but nary a wet soapy sponge. Appearing in perfect mechanical condition, the filthy deposits on the metallic paint have attracted a handful of witty passersby, many of whom have written their comments in the grime. Our personal favorite? The classic, "I wish my wife was this dirty." Thanks for the tip, Vinay!

Gallery: Dirty Dubai BMW M6

[Source: Madwhips]

Most unloved BMW M6 on Earth originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 12:58:00 EST.
We were highly impressed with G-Power's M5 Hurricane. After all, it's twin-supercharged V10 produced nearly 50% more power than stock and it had a top speed of 211 mph, which G-Power claims to be faster than any other street legal Bimmer. With the BMW M6 packing the same 5.0-liter V10, it was only a matter of time before it received the same treatment. Behold the G-Power M6 Hurricane! While the twin blowers are set for lower boost, only 6 psi compared to the M5's 10 psi, the M6 still produces a healthy 635 bhp @ 7300 rpm and 469 lb-ft torque @ 6300 rpm. This is good for a 4.5 second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of nearly 200 mph. Not one to forget that appearance matters, G-Power also provides a new front and rear fascia, rocker panels, and carbon fiber rear diffuser along with 21-inch wheels that make room for a 15-inch brake system up front. M6 owners can drop off their car at G-Power's German headquarters or can order a fully assembled car starting at a mere 183,000 Euros. Full details can be found in the press release after the jump.

In terms of sheer size, Russia is the largest country in the world. That must have something to do with this gargantuan advertisement found in Russia... According to the caption, the surface area measures more than 1.5 acres (billboard haters should stop complaining right about now, as it appears we have it pretty good over here).

More interesting than the sheer massiveness of the super-colossal ad are the full-sized BMWs, lights ablaze, mounted sideways as if zooming across the surface. Those aren't base model Bimmers, either -- sharp eyed readers will recognize them as the Z4 M Coupe, M3, M5, and M6. Now, that is what we call an advertising budget! Thanks for the tip, Hank!

But rumor has it that, in the case of the Chevrolet ZR-1, the domestic horsepower war has a new international benchmark: the BMW M-division V10.

Word is that "German competition is driving the higher horsepower and torque numbers coming to the Corvette." Chevy engineers said that the new LS9 was created to "match up favorably" with the V10 found in the M5 and M6. The supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 has 620HP and 595 lb-ft of torque, with 535 lb-ft available from 2,600 RPM and a 6,200-RPM redline. The high-revving, naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 has 507 HP and 385 lb-ft of torque, and goes all the way up to 8,250-RPM.

It's good to see Chevrolet taking its cues from the best, no matter whether its domestic or international. Especially when it's applied to an engine created with a different philosophy (large-displacement, low-revving grunt) to go in a car with a vastly different purpose than the M5 or M6. BMW's S85 V10 has won at least two International Engine of the Year awards for three years straight, and the LS9 still needs to prove itself. In the mean time, the far more powerful LS9 can gloat that it gets better highway gas mileage: 20 MPG versus. the V10's 17. American ingenuity, +1.

[Source: The Car Connection]

Gallery: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Gallery: Supercharged LS9 V8

Corvette ZR1's LS9 inspired by BMW M V10? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 10 Jan 2008 17:57:00 EST. Finally, Wiesmann was kind enough to provide some detailed shots of the MF5 along with a press release (after the jump), and it turns out that it's as brutishly awesome as we expected.

Made up of an aluminum monocoque and composite body panels, the GT MF5 has been dropped, widened and lengthened compared to its MF4 sibling. As we already knew, power is provided by a BMW-sourced five-liter V10 producing 507 HP. But with the MF's new diet and a seven-speed sequential gearbox, the trip to sixty will take a click under four seconds and on to a top speed of 193 MPH. Nineteen-inch wheels are fitted at all four corners, with 245/40ZR19 tires up front and 275/30ZR19s out back, while customer-fitted carbon fiber seats find their way into the cabin.

Although we were only able to adore the Wiesmann GT MF5 from afar (and through a pane of glass), it's probably better off that way. At a cost of $250k, we'd gladly sell off a few unnecessary organs and move abroad to take delivery when it goes on sale this spring.

Gallery: Wiesmann GT MF5: Pre-preview

Continue reading Frankfurt 2007: The camera shy Wiesmann GT MF 5

Frankfurt 2007: The camera shy Wiesmann GT MF 5 originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 15 Sep 2007 14:24:00 EST. Normally, this involves a bevy of modifications to enhance every performance-related aspect of the vehicle, but with the GP3.10, they've made the bold move of trying to balance fuel efficiency with sporting dynamics.

The GP3.10 houses an M5/M6-sourced V10 that runs on liquefied petroleum gas and produces 552 HP and nearly 400 lb.-ft. of torque. 60 comes up in a cool four-and-a-half seconds, and between high-speed runs you can fill up at one of the 2,700 LPG-packing fuel stations sprinkled across Germany. Of course, the Schnitzer folks couldn't leave the GP looking like a standard 3, so they unfortunately took the interior and exterior to an unhealthy extreme.

You can read up on all the details in the press release after the jump, and peruse through the gallery below.

Gallery: AC Schnitzer GP3.10 GAS POWERED

Continue reading Frankurt 2007: AC Schnitzer has gas, runs with it in GP3.10

Frankurt 2007: AC Schnitzer has gas, runs with it in GP3.10 originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 12 Sep 2007 05:56:00 EST. But we were finally compelled to share it with you when we found out what vehicle was used as the recipient - a new BMW M3. Well, that's not quite true, while this car may look for all the world like a new M3, it's actually a run-of-the-mill E92 3-series coupe that's cleverly dressed to the nines to appear like an M3. The tip-off is that there are no M-parts on the inside. Crazy Germans, though they've obviously done an incredible job fooling everyone.

A forum member over at M3Post was able to snag several shots of the 500 HP coupe while on holiday in Germany, where the Bremgo-tuned M3 imposter was sitting outside the Nurburgring doing its best to look menacing and inviting at the same time.

Aside from the engine switch, the German tuning firm swapped in an M5's seven-speed SMG (doh!), along with ditching the stock thrones for Recaro units and a Hartge carbon-fiber steering wheel. And if you're wondering about the rollers, those are 20-inch AC Schnitzers wrapped in 295/25/20 rubber.

More pics here.
The BMW 3-Series has always been impressive, with deft handling combined with some of the world's best powertrains. The newest 3 may have grown in size and weight, but new engines like the 335i's twin-turbo I6
and the upcoming M3's 400hp V8 help mitigate the car's added girth. Both engines deliver a zero-to-60 time of less than five seconds, but there's always room for more power power and speed. Hartge decided to drop an M5's V10 into its smaller sibling only after adding new heads and camshafts to kick up the power equation to 550hp. The end result is a blistering sleeper with a not-so-sleepy $220,000 price tag.

Inside Line got to take a crack at the Hartge speed demon, and as you'd guess, the car is spooky-fast. A 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds doesn't tell the whole story, as the 205mph speedo is actually grounded in reality. Hartge keeps the H50 bolted to the ground with a revised suspension that's lowered a full 1.2 inches and ultra-wide, sticky rubber wrapped around 20' rims. The driver gave this odd-looking Franken-Series a tremendous compliment, saying that the H50 has the "composure of a 6-Series with the speed of a Ferrari F430." That would mean more if the Hartge H50 didn't cost more than a F430 or two M6's, but the H50 buyer is unlikely to care, and there's not one among us who wouldn't like to grab seat time in this pavement missile. Hit the read link below or the image above to read Inside Line's H50 V10 adventure in its entirety.

Thankfully, it's good news.

The first vehicle to come out of the design house was delivered to the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance in Beverly Hills, California, and it's arguably the most desirable model Fisker "produces." The inaugural Latigo, based of the BMW 6-series, could've come with the 360 HP V8 found in the standard six, but the CS is built atop (around?) the M6, producing 648 HP from it's massaged V10 powerplant and able to reach 60 in a tic under four seconds.

Aside from the exterior and engine enhancements, the Latigo CS gets a custom interior, which adds to the exclusivity. That, and the $304,000 price tag.

[Source: Autoweek]
First Fisker finds a home originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 23 Jun 2007 16:09:00 EST. Expect to see a revised front and rear fascia on its 6-Series Coupe and Cab in Frankfurt this fall. That's the latest rumor going around, supported by spy shots like the ones we have for you today. Besides a slightly revised new front bumper, there will also be revised taillights and what appears to be a slightly exaggerated rear decklid spoiler. The changes are minimal and easy to miss unless the old and new ones are lined up side-to-side. A new interior is said to be in the works as well, but nothing is expected to change underhood. Not that they needed changing, mind you, but the engines will apparently remain the same: The 258-hp straight-six in the 630i (not available in the U.S.), the 360-hp 4.8-liter V8 in the 650i, and of course the 500-hp 5.0-liter V10 in the M6.

[Source: World Car Fans]
Spy Photos: BMW 6-Series gets nip-tuck originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 26 Mar 2007 14:31:00 EST. Unfortunately for Infiniti, BMW has been using the letter M to designate its many performance variants since 1978 in Germany and 1987 in Canada. Infiniti, however, only registered the names M45 in 2004 and M35 in 2005. As such, Infiniti has lost the battle over M, at least in Canada.

The silly thing is that Infiniti could have avoided being sued by BMW if it had steered clear of using the letter M alone in advertisements. It also produced a model of the G35 coupe it called the M6, which obviously steps on the toes of BMW's own high-end M6 coupe. Had Infiniti gone on just using the M45 and M35 monikers alone, it would likely not be liable for damages in a Canadian court right now. The amount of damages that Infiniti must pay BMW has yet to be determined, but in the meantime it has to "deliver to the plaintiffs [BMW] or to destroy under oath, all literature, invoices, packaging, signs, advertisements, promotional or marketing material, printed or otherwise recorded, in the possession, custody or control of the defendant."

Thanks for the tip, Tom!

[Source: CBC.ca]
BMW beats Infiniti in battle over M originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 20 Mar 2007 15:02:00 EST. The force-fed oil-burner is the same one BMW uses in the 5-series sedan and the very same 535d that AB Green's Mike Magda got to drive (if briefly) during the LA Auto Show last year. That 535d sibling hustles to 60 mph from a standing start in just 6.5 seconds, thanks in large part to its 413 lb-ft of torque. That's even more torque than is found in the range-topping M6 (a measly 383). Although horsepower is considerably lower at 272 vs. the 500 found in the M6, we expect the fuel mileage benefits to appeal to many with gas prices holding high. The 535d gets a combined 35.3 mpg on the British standard rating. The M6 manages just 12/18 on the EPA cycle. CAR anticipates that we'll hear more about the car later in the year. And as a sidenote, we know tuners like Hamman have already worked that mill up to 350 hp/487 lb-ft of torque, so this could get very interesting.

[Source: CAR Magazine]
BMW 6-series to get twin-turbo diesel originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 20 Feb 2007 08:27:00 EST.
The BMW M6 is one of the most powerful cars on the road, but for those looking for a bit more pizzazz, Hamann have come out with a full range of mods and accessories.

Exterior enhancements include a new front spoiler, side sills, rear spoiler, roof spoiler, rear apron end panel with integrated diffuser, rear muffler and a suspension lowering kit, plus a choice of 20 or 21-inch rims in two bling-tastic designs, coated with Hankook tires. Under the engine bay, Hamann can massage an extra 60 horsepower on top of the staggering 500 generated by the M's V10. Buyers can also opt for a variety of carbon-kevlar trim pieces in the cabin, plus a custom steering wheel. What's guaranteed to attract the most attention though, are the upward-swinging doors (of questionable taste, but irrefutable drama). The look-at-me orange paintjob is optional.

Hamann also offers custom bits for the entire BMW range as well as for Mini, Porsche, Mercedes, Range Rover, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and Ferrari.

More pics and press release after the jump.

Well, the mystery has been solved and those of you who want to own one of the fastest production drop tops in the world can get it at the bargain price of $105,095, including shipping. As a comparison, the carbon fiber, fixed roof model will only set you back $96,795, with shipping and the highfalutin Neiman Marcus Individual M6 will liberate $139,000 from your corporate expense account. However, it deserves note that included in the price of the M6, new owners will also get to partake in a one-day M driver training course at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The cabrio will still come equipped with the highly touted 5-liter V10, seven-speed SMG and all the geek-til-ya-freak gizmos that come standard on the M6. As a matter of fact, the only difference between the 'normal' M6 and its beheaded stepchild, aside from the obvious, is a slight performance penalty due to the added weight of the convertible's mechanisms, which makes the cabrio lap the Nurburgring a few ticks below the coupe's time.

[Source: Inside Line]
BMW M6 cabrio details and pricing originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 11 Oct 2006 11:10:00 EST. Only 50 examples of this rare beauty will be sold, but for the pittance of $139,000.00, one gets a 2007 BMW M6 convertible bathed in Ruby Black paint and upholstered in a special Gold Brown shade of BMW Individual merino leather.

We're glad to hear that in addition to the car, this Christmas present also includes a four-night trip to Munich where the proud owner and a guest will steep themselves in BMW culture and meet the designers who designed, or really picked out the color combo, of their unique M6 'verts. One question for Neiman Marcus, though: do you guys gift wrap?

[Source: Neiman Marcus and BMW]

Related Posts:
