We're in the middle of yet another slow striptease of prototypes from BMW, this time starring the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe. We've seen patent filings and two sets of spy shots, not to mention the original 'concept' that - unsurprisingly - looks very, very similar to the almost-ready development cars caught out on the road.

For round three, we're getting our first glimpse at the four-door 6 Series' M Sport package, complete with the usual performance-ish upgrades like larger wheels, a more aggressive front fascia and revised exhaust. Truth be told, we like the M Sport additions to the awkward 6 Series nose, and we're sure the finished product will be quite a looker (especially in black). Scroll through our attached image gallery to see the sporty Sixer for yourself.
2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe snapped wearing M package originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 14:59:00 EST.
BMW has released information on a pair of new special-edition 3 Series models available in Europe. The 2012 3 Series Exclusive Edition will offer buyers new 18-inch, lightweight V-Spoke wheels as well as a unique Mineral Grey exterior paint. Inside, the cabin is wrapped in Dakota leather in either Pearl Grey with contrast stitching or black. Bamboo grain anthracite wood trim adds a bit of specialness as well.

Of greater interest to enthusiasts is news that BMW will also offer customers a new 2012 3 Series M Sport Edition with a slightly sharper performance edge. BMW turned its M engineers lose on the vehicle's suspension and a host of exterior and interior tweaks help set both the coupe and convertible models apart from the rest of their pack.

The M Sport Edition features a set of 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels of its very own, and shadow line window finishers join a body-color rear diffuser. Indoors, an M Sport steering wheel and stainless pedals are standard equipment, as are Dakota leather seats with blue contrast stitching. Let's hope these two specials make it to North America. Hit the jump for the full press blast and check 'em out in the gallery.
Continue reading New BMW 3 Series Exclusive Edition and M Sport models shown

New BMW 3 Series Exclusive Edition and M Sport models shown originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 01 Jul 2011 16:59:00 EST.
BMW is expanding its 6 Series line. The automaker has just announced information on the 2012 640d Coupe and 640d Convertible. The two-door oil-burners aren't expected to make it Stateside, and that's a pity, as they make use of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six with 313 horsepower and a hefty 464 pound-feet of torque. All that twist helps the coupe hit 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds while returning 51.4 mpg on the Imperial scale. BMW is also offering the 6 Series with xDrive for the first time as well, but only on 650i models. Thankfully, buyers can expect to see the all-wheel-drive coupe in North American dealers later this year.

If chugging along with a diesel under your hood isn't quite your speed, you'll be happy to know that BMW is also offering a 6 Series M Sport for 2012. The package includes special aerodynamic additions as well as LED fog lamps and 19-inch, double-spoke aluminum alloy wheels. Inside, sport seats are trimmed in Alcantara and leather as well as an M Sport steering wheel. We think the more aggressive M Sport look helps mitigate the 6 Series' somewhat unfortunate nose... what say you?
You may think that adding an M Sport pack to the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig, but let's be honest: BMW has to do something to broaden the 5GT's appeal and try to boost sales. BMW had projected that it would sell between 4,000 and 8,000 of its Gran Turismo range annually in the United States. Yet in 2010, the company only managed to move 2,848. Ouch.

Our spy photographers caught this prototype of a 5 Series GT out in Germany, dressed up in what appears to be traditional M Sport kit. Notice the revised front fascia, larger M-style wheels, revised side skirts and ever-so-slightly touched-up rear bumper. Like all other M Sport models, don't expect a boost in power output, and that's just fine - one thing we've always enjoyed about the 550i model is its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8.

Look for the 5 Series Gran Turismo M Sport to debut at this fall's Frankfurt Motor Show.
BMW to dress up 5 Series Gran Turismo with M Sport package? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 22 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST.
The styling of the 2012 BMW 1 Series is indeed polarizing, and most of the design dissections here at Autoblog Towers are mostly concerned with the car's front fascia, with upward-angled headlamps that blend into a larger dual-kidney grille. Much like the rest of its lineup, BMW will offer an M Sport styling option for the 1 Series, previewed by the image you see here, which we tend to think improves the 1er's schnoz quite a bit.

In addition to the revised front bumper with larger air intakes, BMWBlog.com reports that the 1 Series M Sport will get a new rear bumper, side skirts and M-specific wheels to round off the exterior changes. Inside, the usual M Sport things like a new steering wheel, shifter and pedals will be fitted, along with sport seats. Look for the M Sport package to officially debut sometime in the fall.
2012 BMW 1 Series M Sport is better by a nose originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 15:59:00 EST.
We got an early peek at the new M-Sport aero program for the BMW 5 Series not too long ago via a handful of leaked brochure images. But shady pictures of renderings aren't quite the same as seeing the car in the flesh. Fortunately for everyone on the interwebs, the good folk over at the 5Post forum have managed to get their paws on what looks to be a trove of legitimate photos of the body kit on a 2011 5 Series. The shots show the new front bumper, complete with its aggressive new lower air inlets borrowed from the M-Sport program on the 3 Series, side skirts and a glossy rear valance.

The kit also throws in a tiny lip spoiler for the rear trunk lid and a more aggressive suspension setup for a slightly more sporty feel. The photos also confirm that the smaller, three-spoke M steering wheel will show up as well as a set of unique seats. Fancy. From what we can tell, buyers opting for the sport package will also be able to choose between two new wheel programs that include 18-inch and 19-inch options.

Through the wonder of the internet, we've been given an early glimpse at a set of M goodies for next-year's BMW 5 Series. Bimmer Today managed to get their hands on a few scanned brochure images of a long roof wearing a few fancy bits of kit, including a reworked front fascia, aggressive side skirts and tweaked rear diffuser. The scans even show a couple of extra wheel options that should be available on 2011 models. BMW has managed to up the sex appeal by slathering the parts all over a long roof 5, but we feel pretty safe in guessing that the same parts will be available on sedan models as well.

Inside, buyers opting for the M Sport package can expect a few minor changes, including a new three-spoke steering wheel, seats trimmed out in a new design and an M-branded shift knob. The photos don't say too much about what kind of performance upgrades will come along with the bolt-ons, but we would be surprised if BMW decided to stray from its tried and true formula of offering a more aggressive suspension along with the new track suit.

For those BMW fans who appreciate the more aggressive looks of the automaker's M division models but either don't have the budget or don't need their full performance capabilities, Bimmer also offers M-Sport packages that take you part way there. With the new 5 Series now making its way to dealers and customers in Europe and North America, the corresponding M-Sport pack can't be far behind.

As with previous iterations, this prototype suggests that the new model will receive a deeper front air-dam with larger intakes, side sill extensions and a re-contoured back bumper to accommodate the larger the tailpipes. We don't have any interior shots but M-Sport packages typically including some trim upgrades like aluminum or carbon-fiber, along with more aggressive sport seats and potentially a different steering wheel.

Mechanical changes with M-Sport packages are typically limited to wheels and tires, brakes and perhaps some suspension bits. Both the M-Sport and M5 are expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Bimmerfile has snagged shots of the M Sport package available on the 2011 BMW 3 Series coupe and convertible, and similar to the recent refresh, the changes are subtle, but even more effective. The lines on the front bumper follow the same form as on the current M Sport package, but are notably sharper, and the lower opening appears slightly larger. Out back, the current vehicle's single exhaust pipe at each corner gets switched to a dual pipe on the left side, and a new wheel design is fitted at each corner. Inside will be the usual M-badged steering wheel and shifter, along with an anthracite headliner. All the details are due to be revealed soon, likely at the Geneva Motor Show.
The team over at Bimmerfile is reporting that the exterior of both models will receive revised "sporty" front fascias, complete with LED lights and minor tweaks to the interior. Turbocharged 335i models optioned with either the M Sport Package or the standard Sport Package will be fitted with 19-inch alloys (a bump up from the current 18-inch offerings). Anthracite Bamboo trim will reportedly be a new interior option that will be joined by a new exterior color, and paddle shifters will be standard fare for vehicles without manual transmissions.

Keeping enthusiasts smiling, BMW will reportedly offer an "is" version of the refreshed two-door models. Exclusive to the U.S. market, the special variants are expected to be configured with either DCT or a Sport Automatic transmission. In addition, unique styling and special aerodynamic bits will differentiate them from the standard models. As expected, the interiors will be fitted with M Sport equipment as well. Best of all, the twin-turbocharged N54 under the hood will likely receive its own set of horsepower-boosting enhancements, much like those found on the recently announced Z4 sDrive35is.

[Source: BimmerFile]
2011 BMW 3 Series leaks out ahead of Detroit - special U.S. market performance model mooted originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 06 Jan 2010 08:01:00 EST.
When BMW launched the new Z4 early this year, they made it clear that, unlike the last Z4 and the Z3 before it, there were no plans to create an M version this time around. Of course, forgoing the M nomenclature doesn't mean that BMW won't create a faster Z4 than what's currently in showrooms.

In fact, the first of those faster roadsters will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. The Z4 sDrive35is is based on the existing 35i, with its delicious twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six. Compared to the existing turbo Z4, the new model gets a higher-flow intake and the turbos are allowed to spin up to higher boost pressures, resulting in an 11 percent bump in both power and torque output. The '35is now makes 335 hp and 332 pound-feet. In fact, for brief bursts, the 35is can crank up the boost even higher resulting in short periods of up to 369 pound-feet of torque.

BMW claims the Z4 sDrive35is will get to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. Other features of the 35is include revised electric electric power steering programming, a standard dual-clutch gearbox, and brake energy regeneration. Visually, the 35is wears some M Sport aero and suspension bits and sees its ride height dropped 0.4 inches lower than the standard 35i. They may not be calling this a full M Roadster, but in most respects, that's exactly what this new model is.

Enthusiasts who had hoped for an M-worthy performance upgrade may be disappointed by the largely cosmetic M Sport Package recently announced for the flagship 7 Series. But while purists have balked at the idea of a full-on X6 M (pictured above), buyers looking for a little extra oomph from their sports-activity-whatsit were undoubtedly satisfied. So it may come as a little surprise that BMW is reportedly preparing to launch an M Sport package for the X6 that also includes some power upgrades.

According to reports, the oil-burning X6 xDrive35d with the M Sport package will get a boost of 20 horsepower to 306 courtesy of the recently launched 740d's powerplant, while the twin-turbo xDrive50i will increase output by 42 horsepower over stock. Of course, there will also be a special body kit and bigger 20-inch wheels along with the requisite badging of the X6 M Sport package, all of which gives those who want a little extra sport in their ute but aren't interested in the full-on X6 M a solid choice in between. Expect the package to hit the market later this year.

[Source: Motor Authority]
Style and Substance: BMW X6 with M Sport Package to get power upgrades? originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 13:30:00 EST.
2010 BMW 7 Series M Sport - Click above for high-res image gallery

BMW introduced its first all-wheel drive 3 Series in the mid-80's, with an all-wheel drive variant of the 5 Series arriving on the scene several years later. Today, BMW has announced that its range-topping full-size 2010 7 Series sedan will finally get the automaker's all-wheel drive "xDrive" treatment. Designed with a rear torque bias to maintain rear-wheel drive handling characteristics, the all-season traction will be available on the turbocharged eight-cylinder models initially, as BMW has not announced any plans to adapt it to the V12-powered 760Li flagship. The standard model will be called the "750i xDrive" while the long-wheelbase model carries "750Li xDrive" nomenclature.

The Bimmer boys also announced the availability of the "M Sport Package" for all 7 Series models. The package includes lift-reducing aerodynamic cladding, shadowline trim, Active Roll Stabilization (RWD only), anthracite headliner, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber. If that isn't enough, BMW is also offering special Carbon Black Metallic exterior paint and 20-inch wheels for the new 2010 7 Series M Sport models.
BMW 7 Series M Sport - Click above for high-res image gallery

We're not sure where they came from, but official-looking images of the upcoming BMW 7 Series M Sport just popped up on the interwebs today. The car you see here is identical to the one we saw in spy photos just a few weeks ago. Since the M6 will reportedly remain the brand's top dog in terms of big performance cars, the 7 Series M Sport will be to the standard 7 Series what all M Sport models are. That is, it gets more aggressive fascias front and rear, unique wheels, an M steering wheel, M shifter and M footrest. Rumor also has it that the 7 Series M Sport will be powered by the brand's newly updated 3.0-liter, twin-turbo diesel engine producing 306 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. No, it's still not an M7, but if you want a lightning quick 7 Series, you can go buy an Alpina B7 Biturbo for now.

Gallery: BMW 7 Series M Sport

[Source: Bimmerpost, BMWBlog]
BMW 7 Series M Sport images arrive on web originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 16:57:00 EST. While the "ZMP" package varies from model to model, it generally includes sport-tuned suspension, upgraded wheels, sport steering wheel, sport gearshift lever, anthracite headliner, aggressive sport bodywork, and several strategically-placed "M" badges. A new bodykit gives the X5 a more aggressive appearance, with updated fascias, flared fenders, black low-profile roof rails, and a choice of different 19" and 20" wheels. Inside, electrically-adjustable sport seats and an M steering wheel can be augmented with any number of customization options from BMW Individual, and the X5's already-sporting character is further enhanced by a retuned suspension that reinforces the "sport" in Sport Activity Vehicle (hey, that's what they want to call it, so who are we to argue?). A variety of available paint finishes complete the deal.

German pricing for the M Sport upgrades is €6,350 for the X5 3.0si and 3.0sd, and €4,840 for the more-powerful X5 4.8i. There's no word yet on if or when the package will be available stateside.

[Source: BMW]

Gallery: BMW X5 M Sport

BMW releases new M Sport package for X5 originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 31 May 2007 14:55:00 EST. According to the UK division, M Sport models have accounted for the overwhelming majority of 6-cylinder 3-series coupe and convertible sales in the past, and based on how the new one looks, that shouldn't change. On the 3, the M Sport kit includes an areo package, sport suspension featuring a 15mm drop, standard 18" or optional 19" wheels and an M Sport-exclusive finish to the window surrounds. Inside, you'll find blue sport seats, M-badging on the doorsills, a short-throw shifter and an M steering wheel, among other things. It's available in four colors.

The European hot-hatch segment will be graced with the BMW 130i M Sport Limited edition. Based on the 265-horsepower 130i M Sport, the Limited Edition will be available exclusively with a Carbon Black metallic finish. The interior, with its Lemon leather, should provide quite a bold contrast to the paint scheme. 18" WTCC-style wheels are standard issue.
