You are the driver of a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo, and you've been waiting at a traffic light for something like an entire minute. That glowing red orb of light has been the matador's crimson cape to your bull, taunting you, holding you back, making you very, very angry. So crush the gas pedal a few times and let your V10 snort for all to hear - when the light turns green, everyone's going to know you are not to be toyed with.

You get the green flag and drop the hammer... and all of a sudden you - and two motorists in the oncoming lane - wish you could take it all back and do it all over again. Softly this time. Translogic celebrates 100 episodes, goes to Disney World

So, we think the crew at our sister site Translogic have lost their minds. Either that or they're trying to steal our jobs.

While nominally a show and blog about mobility, most weeks Translogic is discovering all manner of geeky automotive technology, while driving alternative-fuel vehicles powered by electricity, the sun, wood, or whatever crap they can find. This week, however, for the 100th show, they straight-up went to the track to drive supercars. At Disney World. Speedway.

Take that, greenies and transportation wonks. Everyone loves to flog roadgoing sex from Lamborghini and Ferrari, even - make that especially - Translogic host Bradley Hasemeyer.

Nissan releases official footage of Juke-R supercar street race in Dubai

When is a Nissan Juke not a Nissan Juke? When it's the 480-horsepower, Godzilla-powered Juke-R, that's when. Then it's a supercar-beater. And to prove the point, Nissan UK took its one-off super-crossover down to Dubai for a little street racing action.

So what did Nissan pit its Juke-R against? No, not other crossovers, but a pack of the leanest, meanest supercars on the market: the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. We first saw video footage shot from the sidelines a couple of weeks ago, but since the publicity stunt proved so popular, Nissan responded by releasing an official, high-quality version, complete with in-car footage and plenty of tire squealing. Watch the story of the flaming Lamborghini that won this year's Targa High Country

Not too long ago, we caught the dramatic finish to the Targa High Country in Australia. The last stage of the event featured one very on fire Lamborghini Gallardo piloted by Jason and John White as the duo sped to the finish line. Why didn't the team stop and put out the fire? For starters, White notes there were more fire extinguishers at the finish line than there were in the car. Additionally, the teammates beat out their closest competitor by just 10 seconds. That may be a lifetime on a track, but in targa, ten seconds can be come and go in an instant.

Now the Whites have released a video of the events that led up to the race's dramatic conclusion. The short clip follows the team through the more dramatic moments of the 2011 Targa High Country, including multiple tight passes, wide open driving and tight, technical stages. Swedish skier specs out his Lamborghini for the slopes

We saw lots of intriguing mod jobs at SEMA this year. But among them we didn't see one Lamborghini with a ski rack. Not one! Leave it to the Swedish, then, to show us the way.

Where others might opt for an SUV or an all-wheel-drive station wagon, professional skier Jon Olsson likes driving from one ski hill to another in a Lamborghini. He had a Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce fitted with a ski rack, and even forded a river in the beast for the Gumball rally. He's apparently dead-set on doing the same (the ski rack part, not necessarily the automotive bi-athalon bit) with the new Aventador, but since there's a bit of a waiting list, he's gone with a Gallardo in the meantime.

Olsson had a custom ski box made, capable of handling the wind at speeds up to 159 miles per hour, turned to DMC (the aftermarket tuner, not the DeLorean producer) for a race-style body kit and had the whole thing - car and box - wrapped in some sort of angular take on winter camouflage. Not exactly our cup of tea, but it sure beats hitting the slopes in a Subaru Outback.

Lamborghini to debut Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder for one last hurrah?

Italian automakers have a knack for stretching a two-model line into a full range. Just take a look at what Abarth has done with just the Punto and the 500. Or what Maserati has with the GranTurismo and Quattroporte. And Lamborghini certainly fits the same with the Gallardo and the Aventador (or the Murciélago before it).

The Gallardo itself has spawned a good dozen variants, distinguished by their roofs, drivetrain configurations, states of tune and other parameters. Soon enough they'll all be replaced by an all-new model, but before they are, word on the street (or chat boards) has it that Lamborghini has one last variant in the works.

That variant is tipped to be the LP550-2 Spyder, a derivative previously mooted but now claimed as confirmed, apparently. So what will make it special? The combination of simplicity and open-air motoring. The powertrain is borrowed from the Balboni edition - meaning slightly less power than the standard model, but lighter in weight and driving just the rear wheels - but with the Spyder's convertible roof.

More intriguing still would be if Lamborghini were to nix the roof altogether and carry the Gallardo out as a fair-weather purist's dream, but at this point, we're just grasping at straws.

Watch this Lamborghini Gallardo win a race on fire

Behold: the definition of giving 110 percent in competition. Jason and John White recently took to the Targa High Country in Victoria, Australia in their Lamborghini Gallardo. The duo spent the final day of the event battling for the top spot with a menacing Nissan GT-R. The final stage of the day saw the Whites four seconds behind their rival when the green light lit, and the team proceeded to do their best to close the gap.

There was only one problem; half way through the course, the team noticed that a glowing fireball was erupting from the rear of their Italian racer. The crew could either stop halfway through the course, attempt to extinguish the flames with their on-board extinguishers and give up the overall win or push on for victory and hopefully more extinguishers.

The Whites went for the latter option and managed to beat out the GT-R driven by Tony Quin by a full ten seconds. Fire crews quickly put the flames out and managed to prevent the Gallardo from (completely) going up in a puff of smoke. The heroics are just another reason why Targa is the best form of motorsports on the planet. Hit the jump to check out a few videos of the feat for yourself.

Jeremy Clarkson releases trailer for new 'Powered Up' DVD

It seems we may never get enough of Jeremy Clarkson. The Top Gear host always attracts loads of attention no matter what he does, and it doesn't hurt that he always seems to surround himself with some of the most beautiful machines on the planet.

That doesn't change for his new DVD, which is titled 'Powered Up.' Clarkson and his band of highly skilled photogs shot the DVD at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, and the post-jump trailer gives us a good idea of the automotive stars of this show.

Hit the jump to watch four minutes of Sir Clarkson as he takes on the McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Jaguar E-Type Convertible and plenty more. Even Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok got in on the fun, if a high-speed spin-out in a 911 GT3 is your idea of a good time. 'Powered Up' goes on sale on November 7.

Limited-edition hardcore Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale leaks out

The Aventador is the Lamborghini that's currently getting all the attention, but the automaker doesn't want its entry-level Gallardo range to feel left out. Enter the "all-new" Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale. Named after the famed one-make race series created as a collaboration between Blancpain and Lamborghini, this limited-edition Gallardo will drop weight while adding racecar spec goodies.

Still, we can't help but feel like we're looking at a car Lamborghini already released. At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the Italian automaker showed off the LP570-4 Blancpain Edition, which wore dark black paint, a big rear wing and tipped the scales at just 2,954 pounds.

According to the folks at TeamSpeed, the Super Trofeo Stradale seen above wears a beautiful shade of red called Rosso Mars. It also wears a massive rear wing and weighs 2,954 pounds. Both cars run from 0-62 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds thanks to the 570-horsepower V10 engine and all-wheel-drive setup.

Is Lamborghini simply trying to wring out every last coin and dollar that it can from the aging Gallardo? That might be the case, but who can blame them? We expect every one of the 150 examples to be snatched up quickly, and each owner will undoubtedly have a smile on their face when coaxing that 10-cylinder engine into full song. Lamborghini to present ultimate Gallardo at Frankfurt

The Lamborghini Gallardo has been on the market now for the better part of a decade. Along the way, it has led to countless variants: some with roofs, some without, some with all-wheel drive, some with rear, some with as less than 500 horsepower and some with nearly 570. Soon the entire range will be replaced with a new model thought to be called Cabrera, but before it does, word on the strada is that the Raging Bull marque is planning one last hurrah.

And what a hurrah it will be. Reportedly based on the Super Trofeo race car that's fielded in the spec racing series of the same name, a "Super Trofeo Stradale" is tipped to debut at next month's Frankfurt show as the final iteration of the Gallardo.

Little word at this point on just what it will entail, but expect more power and less weight than any variant that has preceded it. For reference, the track-bound Super Trofeo packs a 562-horsepower V10 but with 240 pounds less heft than the standard Gallardo and 88 pounds less than the stripped-out Superleggera. Expect the roadgoing version to hit 60 miles per hour in three seconds flat and run out to a top end of some 210 mph.

We'll have to wait until we get to the Messe to find out more, but that's little over a month away, so stay tuned.

Underground Racing takes your "everyday" Lamborghini Gallardo, and then turns it into a twin-turbocharged exotic beast that burps fire and destroys rubber. Robert Himler is a young man that is fortunate enough to own such an automobile, and his example produces 1,250 horsepower... at the wheels.

That sounds awesome. It also sounds terrifying, and Himler's mom would agree. She recently rode shotgun with Robert while the driver had a dash-mounted camera rolling to catch her reactions to the ride. The fun starts at just over a minute in, but the video is fairly boring after that. Cosa Designs reaches back to give the Lamborghini Gallardo a Reventón redo

Did you miss your opportunity to get your hands on a Lamborghini Reventón before Sant'Agata's small batch was all spoken for? Well, some might not call spending a cool million on what tangibly amounted to a (spectacularly) rebodied Murciélago an "opportunity," but if you were enamored of the limited-edition Lambo's styling but were hoping for a smaller form and maybe a smaller price tag, this could be it.

Based on the first-gen Gallardo, a German tuning house by the name of Cosa Design has come out with the edgy body kit you see here. Far more than the usual bolt-on front splitter, side skirts, rear wing and apron, Cosa's take on the Gallardo is a rather comprehensive rebody.

The modifications are apparently applied to the original 2003-spec Gallardo coupe, and not current LP560-4. (If you're wincing at the outdated machinery, just keep in mind that the Reventón was based on the even-older Murciélago.) Cosa then boosts the output from 500 horsepower stock up to 540. Part of that comes from the new variable exhaust system, good for an extra twenty horses or so. Those extra ponies join a set of 20-inch alloys, adjustable coilover suspension and upgraded brakes on the spec list.

The result looks like it's about to transform into a robot from outer space, yet would look right at home next to a Reventón. And while we haven't seen the pricing sheet, you can bet it'll cost you less than seven figures when all's said and done.

Lamborghini Gallardo laps track in race against... a stunt plane?

We've seen some pretty strange races in our days. From pitting cars against Japanese bullet trains and the London public transportation system to skydiving maniacs and jet fighters, nearly every hair-brained race you can think of has been put to the test for the public's enjoyment. Now we can add one more to that list.

EVO Magazine recently took the time to pit the Lamborghini Gallardo GP570-4 Performante against an Extra EA-300LP stunt plane in a race around the Bedford Autodrome. Did we mention that the guy in the sky is none other than former Red Arrow pilot Myles Garland?

While the prop plane is only good for 296 horsepower, it can also comfortably pull plus or minus 10 g while turning the pilot into a floppy rag doll. The Lamborghini, meanwhile, comes to the fight bearing 562 ponies and the miracle of all-wheel drive. Who comes out on top in such a ludicrous shoot out? Lamborghini ditching manual transmissions

Lamborghini is apparently chomping at the bit to say arrivederci to the manual transmission. Motor Trend had a chance to speak with Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's R&D director, and it appears that a manual gearbox doesn't fit into the automaker's plans for the future. The immediate future.

Per Reggiani, only one to two percent of the vehicles produced at the Sant'Agata factory come equipped with a row-your-own setup - a shockingly low percentage. Lamborghini's customers want fast cars, and the best way to ensure it delivers is by removing the human element from the gearchange equation.

A Gallardo replacement is expected next year, and Reggiani tells Motor Trend that it will be available only with an automated gearbox of some sort (the new Aventador makes use of an automated single-clutch seven-speed unit).

Has the manual transmission run its course, or is there still life left for those who hunt for the perfect heel-toe downshift? If the rumormill is correct, Porsche seems to think there is, but other automakers have been mum on development plans for three-pedal setups. What do you think? Richard Hamann, founder of Hamann Motorsport, died this weekend after a long struggle with cancer. He was 53.

Hamann led a nearly 20-year racing career before forsaking his Nomex and starting the tuning company that got its hands on just about every European sports car you can name from 1986 on. Most recently, his company has made its name with cars like the Hamann Victory II, a hotter Lamborghini Gallardo.

Before he was making sports cars sportier, Hamann enjoyed a long and successful racing career. In his time on track, he took part in more than 700 races, finishing on the podium a startling 300 of those times. He had a combined 103 victories in DTM, Group C, Formula 3 and the Special Touring Car Trophy, which he won three times at the wheel of a BMW M1.

Despite the loss of its leader, Hamann's company will carry on.

Peeved Lamborghini owner destroys car with sledgehammer, others help

Stop! Hammertime? Well, if you're the owner of this particular Lamborghini Gallardo, you're not saying stop, but "go, go, go!" According to reports, the happless Gallardo was purchased about six months ago by a resident of Qingdao, China. In his short period of ownership, the man has apparently had a few issues with the car.

In one instance, the Lamborghini wouldn't start, so the owner had it towed to the local dealer. Upon arrival at the service bay, the owner found that the car had been damaged in transit. No one would claim responsibility and the original non-starting issue still wasn't fixed.

The Gallardo owner attempted to escalate the issue within the Lamborghini family, ultimately trying to reach out to Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann. No response or solution has been offered so the owner has become decidedly frustrated. So frustrated, in fact, that he decided destroying his Lamborghini in public would be the best way to garner attention.

According to the report, the owner is trying to make a point that China is home to a growing number of individuals capable of purchasing luxury items. Companies realizes this and are making increased efforts to offer their products to the Chinese people. However, the Lamborghini owner believes that the Chinese people do not get the same level of service found in other markets. By smashing his Gallardo, he's certainly captured our attention.

By the way, a new Lamborghini Gallardo, which typically sells for $230,000 on up, retails for between $529,000 and $757,000 USD in China. Ouch. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Markets in the Far East are increasingly vital for high-end automakers like Lamborghini. The Italian purveyor of exotic supercars has been in the Singapore market, specifically, for ten years. Now, to celebrate the milestone, Lamborghini has produced a very limited run of special-edition Gallardos exclusive to Singapore.

The Singapore-themed Gallardo was created in partnership between the factory and its Singapore importer. Available in white or black, the Singapore Limited Edition wears a set of red side stripes accented by a badge featuring the Merlion - the lion-headed fish mascot created by the Singapore Tourism Board in the 1964.

Only ten examples of the car were produced, and all have apparently been spoken for. Delivery of the entire run recently took place at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Singapore. S$20,000 (about $15k in equivalent American funds) of the proceeds from each Singapore Limited Edition Gallardo sold went to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to benefit underprivileged students. Lamborghini to position rear-drive LP 550-2 as "entry-level" Gallardo?

Following in the footsteps of its parent's at Audi, Lamborghini has made all-wheel drive something of a battle cry. What was introduced as an option on the Diablo VT has now proliferated across every model Lamborghini has made since its introduction. Well... until the Balboni edition came along.

To honor the career of the company's long-serving test driver Valentino Balboni, Lamborghini rolled out a purist's version of the Gallardo that did away with the all-wheel drive system in favor of rear-drive only, dropped 10 horsepower and was available with a classic gated manual in the place of the e-gear sequential gearbox.

The Balboni edition - carrying the LP 550-2 designation to mark its metric horsepower output and traction configuration - was set to be the only rear-drive Gallardo available, until Lamborghini announced the Bicolore edition just the other day. Although sold overseas with all-wheel drive, the American version was announced as the first rear-drive LP 550-2 to follow the Balboni.

According to reports coming in from Italy, Lamborghini is now preparing to offer the LP 550-2 as a sort of "entry-level" Gallardo, undercutting the price of other versions while offering the more direct drivetrain set-up. Apparently Lamborghini already sold a number of these LP 550-2s to Asian customers who missed out on the Balboni's limited production run, and will now offer the bare-bones Gallardo as a regular member of the family.

Which is the ultimate iteration of the Lamborghini Gallardo? Is it the purist's choice, the Balboni edition? The LP570-4 Superleggera? Or the latest open-top Spyder Performante? The answer could very well be track-bound, and you're looking at it right now.

The latest race-spec Gallardo developed by Lamborghini's motorsport partners at Reiter Engineering, the LP600+ is designed to GT3 regulations. Its 5.2-liter V10 has been tuned up to 600 metric horsepower (592hp by our count), joined with a retuned gearbox, competition aerodynamics package, rolling stock, suspension and more. With a curb weight trimmed to just 2,624 pounds and a 40mm ground clearance, the Reiter LP600+ promises to give the competition a run for their money with a relatively modest price tag (for a race-ready supercar, anyway) of €288,500 ($386k).

Lamborghini to celebrate Italy with Tricolore edition Gallardo?

Two weeks ago reports began to surface that Lamborghini could be preparing to launch a new two-tone Bicolore edition of the Gallardo at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. But since the pace of the automotive industry is unrelenting, this week's reports indicate that a Tricolore edition could be in the works, too.

So... a two-tone special followed by a three-tone one? We must have lost something in the translation here. And we almost did. Word has it that the second special-edition Gallardo will not be a three-tone model, but a Tricolore in the sense of the Italian flag. The country, you see, is preparing to celebrate 150 years of unification, a national milestone which Lamborghini very well might celebrate with a commemorative patriotic edition featuring the red, white and green.

Then again, it could just be a three-tone paint job. We'll have to wait and see, with sources tipping the Tricolore edition's launch to take place in Geneva in March.
