While last week's announcement that Koenigsegg Automotive AB had pulled its offer for the homeless brand was a painful kick to the gut, it seems there are still a few companies interested in taking the automaker under its wings. With that in mind, and interested in keeping the momentum, Saab CEO Jan Ake Jonsson and government officials from Sweden are meeting in Detroit today ahead of a Tuesday GM board meeting to determine Saab's fate.

As we've reported, other bidders have expressed interest in Saab and the list appears to have grown. These companies include Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp., U.S. investment company Merbanco Inc., and the U.S. private equity firm Renco Group Inc. You may recall that it was Beijing Auto who had partnered with Koenigsegg in the latest deal that fell off the table. Said Beijing Auto's general manager Wang Dazong, "stay tuned a little bit." Yes, we all are. Patiently.
Carbon-fiber saloons from the Swedish automaker have been undergoing testing for the past two years, with the new model set to be debut in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. Sales of the car are planned for 2011 with a sizable allocation destined for the U.S. The other big market for the brand is the Middle East, where much of the development money is said to have been sourced. Powered by a 700-horsepower V8 not shared with Koenigsegg's other exotics, the new super saloon is expected to surpass 200 miles per hour. Pricing would almost surely be higher than its closest rivals, the upcoming Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide, but lower than the marque's other carbon creations.

Gallery: Autoblog Drives the Koenigsegg CCX

[Source: CAR Middle East via Jalopnik]
Koenigsegg developing 700bhp four-door originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 12:57:00 EST. The folks at Shelby SuperCars (SSC) are about to take one more crack at the record books. They have just released a statement saying that they hope to hold the official title of "World's Fastest Production Car" by the end of the month. SSC has done all the paperwork to make sure that when it does in fact take to the track, the Guinness Book of World Records people will be satisfied with the results. That meant getting a suitable venue (in Washington) and using suitable methodology to perform and record the runs. The 1,183-horsepower SSC Ultimate Aero TT already topped 241 mph during shakedown evaluations, almost beating the official record of 242 held by the Koenigsegg CCR, but is ultimately shooting for the Bugatti Veyron's 253 mph unofficial top speed.

Full press release after the jump. We'll keep you posted on the results after the record attempt is made.

[Source: SSC]
Continue reading Once more with feeling: SSC Ultimate Aero TT ready for another record speed run

Once more with feeling: SSC Ultimate Aero TT ready for another record speed run originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 02 Aug 2007 14:59:00 EST. We just got word from a trackside observer that the record was NOT broken. After getting snowed out on day 1, the cast and crew reconvened on Highway 93 in Nevada and had another go at the record books today. Test pilot (and veteran Silver State Challenge 200 mph club member) Rick Doria reported wheelspin at 190 shifting into 6th on one pass that yielded about 221 mph, but felt confident enough to try again. A couple more passes and the 1,183-hp Ultimate Aero TT posted a top speed around 230 mph at 50% throttle in 6th. At that point the car had traveled the 2 miles deemed appropriate for the test runs. The driver reported that he was sure the car could easily break the 253 mph Veyron speed, let alone the "official" 242 of the Koenigsegg CCR. The group will head back to the shop for now and try a second set of runs in a couple of weeks if all goes as planned. We'll post updates as more information becomes available.
SSC confident Ultimate Aero TT will be will be world's fastest soon originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 22:47:00 EST.
