<br />
We all remember the hoopla a few years ago when kajillionaire <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/JamesGlickenhaus/">James Glickenhaus</a> revealed he had been working with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari/">Ferrari</a> on an updated version of the famous P3/4 race car from the sixties. What resulted was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/20/pebble-beach-gooding-auction-vip-preview-and-ferrari-612-p4-5-u/">Ferrari P4/5</a> one-off. Glickenhaus was $4 million lighter, but that seems like money well spent judging by all the attention he received, not to mention the fact he owns a 1-of-1 Ferrari. <br />
<br />
<strike>That whole endeavor was part of the Ferrari Special Projects program</strike> (turns out that the P4/5 preceded the Ferrari Special Projects program, the first vehicle of which was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/11/fioravanti-designed-ferrari-sp1-first-product-of-portfolio-coach/">SP1</a>), which is fancy Italian talk for "We will build anything you want for the right price." Another kajillionaire was apparently waiting in line behind Glickenhaus, and after 14 months of development, his car is ready too. Called the P540 Superfast Aperta, this entirely unique Ferrari was commissioned and partly developed by Edward Walson, whose claim to fame is that his dad invented cable TV. The new money mogul had reportedly always dreamed of designing cars, and approached Ferrari in 2008 to develop a car based on the gold Ferrari in the 1968 short film <em>Toby Dammit</em>. <br />
<br />
If you can't tell, the donor car is a Ferrari 599 and much of the development work went into strengthening the car after the roof was removed. It's pretty, it's road legal and it's the only in existence. Follow the jump for the official word from Ferrari.<br />

Due principally to debt, the family owners of Pininfarina S.p.A. have contracted with Italy's <span id="autonewsGraf1">Banca Leonardo to help them sell 50.7 percent of their stake in the design/contract manufacturing business. Said a source, "</span>It is a commitment [the Pininfarina family] made with the banks. The family has no intention of leaving completely." Sure, but who will buy controlling interest of such a storied company? Have you met our Indian friend Tata?<br />
<br />
That's right, rumors are swirling that Indian giant Tata, new owner of both Jaguar and Land Rover, is reportedly in the hunt to purchase the Pininfarina family's shares. However, the reports are painting the pending deal as a partnership rather than a takeover and Tata already has dealings with Fiat, so they're familiar with the Italian way of doing things. For its part, Pininfarina is working on an electric car (hey, why not?) with French entrepreneur Vincent Bollore. They also have contracts with both Ford and Volvo to build cabriolets of the Focus Coupe-Cabriolet and the C70, respectively. We'll see how this all plays out, especially now that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/06/report-fiat-wins-bid-for-bertone/">Fiat owns Bertone</a>.<br />

<br />The name James Glickenhaus should be familiar to Autoblog readers. He is, of course, the gentlemen who commissioned the marvelous Enzo-derived Ferrari P4/5 several years ago. He's also the kind of wealthy car collector who most, if not all members, of Autoblog would choose to be in that alternate universe where we are <em>all </em>wealthy car collectors. That is to say, Glickenhaus doesn't just squirrel away his incredibly rare cars in a climate-controlled warehouse; he takes 'em out an drives 'em as God (and the Italians) intended. <br /><br />One of Glickenhaus's more recent acquisitions is the 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina. The diminutive gull-wing concept was built by Ferrari and its styling partner Pininfarina in 1967 as a design study and an experiment in aerodynamics. It was never intended for production, but lessons learned from it were eventually applied to other cars. The Dino 206 Competizione lived in the Pininfarina museum for more than three decades until 2007 when, after several years of pestering, the design house finally agreed to sell it to Glickenhaus. It won best in class here at Meadow Brook against some strong competition, including Glickenhaus's own 1967 Ferrari 330 P3/4 Spyder and a wonderful Austin Healey 3000. And yes, Glickenhaus told us he drives this one-of-a-kind machine regularly. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/">Meadowbrook Concours 2009: 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/glickenhaus-dino-1280-2-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours055ferrari_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/concours057ferrari_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Sam Abuelsamid / Max Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/02/meadowbrook-concours-2009-1967-ferrari-dino-206-competizione-by/">Meadow Brook Concours 2009: 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione by Pininfarina</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST. Apparently Glickenhaus is not strictly a Ferrari fan, as he has now become the first of 100 Americans to receive the keys to a U.S.-spec Alfa Romeo <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/29/paris-motor-show-world-premiere-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/">8C Competizione</a> coupe. Glickenhaus even reportedly paid enough extra for his 8C Competizione to get the Alfa Romeo factory to finish his car in the same shade of red used on his one-of-a-kind P4/5. Shortly after Glickenhaus took the keys and went for a first drive, the same dealership handed over two more 8Cs to slightly lesser mortals. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/">2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_8483-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_8485-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_8487-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_8488-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_8489-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.velocetoday.com/archives/1399#more-1399">VeloceToday</a> via <a href="http://www.autofiends.com/index.php/2008/11/first-alfa-romeo-8c-delivered-in-united-states/">AutoFiends</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/13/jim-glickenhaus-gets-first-us-alfa-romeo-8c-competizione/">Jim Glickenhaus gets first Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione in the U.S. </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 13:03:00 EST. <p><br />Much has been written about the one-off Ferrari created by Pininfarina for wealthy car collector James Glickenhaus. Named the P4/5 after the famous Ferrari racing machines from the 1960s, this Enzo-based bespoke supercar is a modern day legend not just because it's gorgeous, rare and powerful, but also because Glickenhaus believes it should be driven. He doesn't just show it at parties attended by the rich and famous, he <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-supercars/286336/">drives it up the hill at Goodwood</a>. Rumor has it the P4/5 already has 6,000 miles on the odo. Glickenhaus is, therefore, our kind of man, so we were very much interested in this new video vignette that popped up on him and his car. <br /><br />It's produced by Brad Farrell, owner and operator of <a href="http://www.kilnjoxmedia.com/">Kilnjox Media</a>, who hopes to make more short documentaries on various car nuts in the Northeast who "get it" like Glickenhaus does. This one's the first and if reaction to it is positive enough, more will come with a possible cable series in the works. Check out the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/15/video-short-documentary-on-glickenhaus-ferrari-p4-5/">after the jump</a> and let us know your reaction in the comments.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/">Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/ferrarip45_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/ferrarip45_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/ferrarip45_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/ferrarip45_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/ferrarip45_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><strong><em><br />All photos Copyright (C)2008 </em></strong><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><em>Drew Phillips</em></strong></a><strong><em> / Weblogs, Inc.</em></strong></p>

Aside from getting to see the P4/5 from a series of angles, Farah gets into some of the details that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/24/glickenhaus-modifies-his-one-of-a-kind-ferrari-p4-5/">Glickenhaus has added</a> after fleshing out the hyper car over the course of its life. The new exhaust tips were one topic of conversation. Based off the 2003 Ferrari F1 car's exhaust setup, they actually provide more downforce as exhaust gases are expelled onto the rear wing. There's plenty of other technical tidbits to be had, so <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/12/video-garage419-spends-time-with-the-ferrari-p4-5/">hit the jump</a> to watch the video.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/12/video-garage419-spends-time-with-the-ferrari-p4-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Garage419 spends time with the Ferrari P4/5</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/12/video-garage419-spends-time-with-the-ferrari-p4-5/">VIDEO: Garage419 spends time with the Ferrari P4/5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 18:28:00 EST. With a whole crew of fellow sports car owners in tow, James took the one-off Pininfarina custom on a little run. The video is short, just 1:30 in length, and you can't hear the car thanks to an overzealous soundtrack editor, but the car is a sight to behold. To be honest, the clip is just a tease for the newish website, eCirkit.com, which promises to show you the rest of the run. Even so, it's worth following the jump to see this little rocket in action. How does it stack up against a superbike? A regular Enzo? A police cruiser?!?! You be the judge. Check out the video after the jump.<br /><br />Thanks for the tip, Kevin! <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.eCirkit.com">eCirkit.com</a> via 0-60]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/14/video-ferrari-p4-5-driving-into-nyc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Ferrari P4/5 driving into NYC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/14/video-ferrari-p4-5-driving-into-nyc/">VIDEO: Ferrari P4/5 driving into NYC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 14 Feb 2007 12:03:00 EST. The video features in-cabin footage of the P4/5 as it heads out presumably to terrorize the streets of Turin, as well as some trailing shots of the car from the rear. It finishes with a delightful scene of the car tearing off from what appears to be a toll booth. The video is great, if for no other reason than to hear the Enzo's V12 wail. <br /><br />You can check out a crappy version here on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvvWftiYXiQ&amp;eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcarscoop%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F">YouTube</a> if you're in a hurry, or download JG's original version <a href="http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135972524&amp;postcount=2387">here</a> on Ferrarichat.com.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135972538#post135972538">Ferrarichat.com</a>]<br /><br /><strong>Related posts:</strong><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/02/autoblog-qanda-james-glickenhaus-owner-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/">Autoblog Q&amp;A: James Glickenhaus, owner of the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina</a><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/29/the-making-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/">The making of the Ferrari P4/5</a><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/19/the-ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina-revealed/">The Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina revealed!</a><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/28/one-off-ferrari-commissioned-by-crazy-collector/">One-off Ferrari commissioned by crazy collector</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/03/vdieo-p4-5-on-public-roads/">VIDEO: P4/5 on public roads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 03 Aug 2006 20:57:00 EST. Fortunately Glickenhaus graciously carved out some of his valuable time to sit with us and field some questions. Here are some of the things you didn't read in the article "Beast of Turin" that appears in the latest issue of <span style="font-style: italic;">Car and Driver</span>. Also check out all of Pininfarina's P4/5 images after the jump. Enjoy!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">AB:</span> Did you approach Pininfarina or did the Italian design house approach you with the idea to build a one-off Ferrari based on the Enzo?<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">JG:</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Pininfarina approached me and asked if I would be interesting in commissioning a one-off car and I responded that I'd be interested in something that looked like a P4 built on an Enzo chassis.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">AB:</span> Could you briefly explain the story surrounding the true identity of your Ferrari 330 P3/4 with chassis no. 0846 and tell us if that played into your desire to build a P4/5 of your own?<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">JG:</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Briefly I bought what I believed to be an original P4 motor and P4 gearbox and other original P4 parts mounted on a replica P4 chassis, and after a massive investigation found that against all odds I had bought the original P3 chassis remains of P 3/4 0846, 0846's original 66 593 type P3 gear box, 0846's Original P4 heads and various other original remains of 0846, and I totally rebuilt those parts into 0846 as she exists today. Ferrari S.p.A. helped me by recasting P4 uprights for me, and my acquisition of 412P 0854, a "No Question Car," enabled me to restore 0846 to her original Spyder configuration using the original spyder tail of P4 0858, which I also acquired. I am currently restoring 412P 0854 to her proper coupe configuration using her original coupe body, which I also acquired. For those interested in reading an in depth investigation of 0846, click </span><a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.glickenhaus.com/jim/project.pdf">here</a><span style="font-style: italic;">. </span><br /> <br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">AB:</span> Since it's based on the Ferrari Enzo, we're assuming that the P4/5 will be street legal in the U.S. and meet safety and emissions regulations. Is this the case?<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">JG:</span> <span style="font-style: italic;">Yes, that is the reason we began with a new fully US legal Ferrari Enzo and all modifications were made within all applicable safety and emission requirements and were crash tested by computer. P 4/5 is street legal world wide.</span><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/02/autoblog-qanda-james-glickenhaus-owner-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Autoblog Q&amp;A: James Glickenhaus, owner of the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/02/autoblog-qanda-james-glickenhaus-owner-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/">Autoblog Q&amp;A: James Glickenhaus, owner of the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 02 Aug 2006 13:37:00 EST. One vehicle that has garnered a veritable ton of media coverage is James Glickenhaus' Pininfarina-designed Ferrari P4/5. Although the design has caused it's share of controversy, the rebodied Enzo's debut in Monterey is guaranteed to be one of, if not the, show stopper of the weekend.<br /><br />We have <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/19/the-ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina-revealed/">already</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/28/one-off-ferrari-commissioned-by-crazy-collector/">covered</a> the P4/5 creation in detail, but Autoblog reader Richard sent us <a href="http://www.supercars.net/cars/3456.html">this link</a> to a picture gallery of the bespoke machine in various states of production.<br /><br />Follow the jump for the spec list and loads more Pininfarina goodness.<br /><br />[Source: Supercars.net]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/29/the-making-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The making of the Ferrari P4/5</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/29/the-making-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/">The making of the Ferrari P4/5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 29 Jul 2006 07:01:00 EST. The Enzo-based one-of-a-kind tribute to the <a href="http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&amp;carnum=1680">classic Ferrari 330 P3/4</a> was not scheduled to be revealed until later this month, but leaks on the web spurred Glickenhouse to action.<br /><br />The official unveiling is still scheduled for later this month, but until then, the owner has allowed Ultimatecarpage to post three photos. No, it isn't as gorgeous as the P3/P4 -- nothing is. What it is, however, is fantastic. Modern-looking for sure, the car's fenders, roofline, and rear clearly harken back to the P3/P4. <br /><br />Built with the full cooperation of Ferrari, Glickenhaus' car is a fitting tribute to the revered original. We look forward to July 29th when the full set of images will be released. In the meantime, visit <a href="http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php">Ultimatecarpage.com</a> to see larger versions of photo above plus two more shots of this very special vehicle.<br /><br />We have one suggestion for Mr. Glickenhaus, direct from the Autoblog "Wishful Thinking" department: next summer, please send this car to Goodwood and have it follow <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_P#Controversy_around_chassis_no._0846">your original P3/4</a> up the hill. What a thrill that'd be!<br /><br />[Source: Ultimatecarpage.com]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/19/the-ferrari-p4-5-by-pininfarina-revealed/">The Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina revealed!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 19 Jul 2006 12:35:00 EST.
