<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>1972 Jensen Interceptor III - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
<em>Dude</em>. Talk about a find. In case you have no idea what you're looking at, that's an honest to goodness Jensen Interceptor III. Designed in England, styled by Vignale of Italy and powered by a big block Mopar, the Interceptor is just one of those special cars. Special because there is no good reason for them to have ever existed - yet here one is, just waiting for you to put in a bid.<br />
<br />
Now it's true, when the Interceptors were first introduced in 1966 they were dismal. The Chrysler 383 V8 could sluggishly move the steel-bodied 2+2 around, but then the steel would rust when it left the garage. Besides, the factory was on strike and the early Interceptors were most likely assembled by frenzied executives. Or rats. But all of that changed when the Series III Interceptors (finally) appeared in 1971. Most important, the 383 had been ditched in favor of a 440 - the same engine in the black Charger that Steve McQueen toys with in <em>Bullitt</em> (with maybe a smog control or two and a bit less compression). Also - the seller's claiming this car has a "472" V8, no doubt trying to convince unwary collectors that this Jensen has a 426 Hemi - but you know better.<br />
<br />
This particular low-mileage beauty (ad says 63K miles, odometer says 77k) lives in rust-free Ventura, CA. Moreover it comes with Mopar's bulletproof Torqueflite 3-speed auto and lightweight alloy wheels. Sadly the engine's seized up, but you can pull 440s out of junkyards until the cows come home. The interior can only be described as well worn, but at least all the glass is in good shape. It could be worse. You could be bidding on the Interceptor's infinitely more desirable/complex big brother, the FF. You know, the first production car to feature AWD, ABS and an insanely primitive form of traction control. <em>That </em>would a nightmare. Need a little more convincing? Led Zepplin's John Bonham owned <em>two</em> Interceptor IIIs. The first bid of $1,000 didn't meet the reserve, so its yours for the taking. Happy bidding.<br />

That kind of success has got V Eight looking at a successor for the S, and they might have found it in the Jenson Interceptor SX.<br /><br />The SX would be rebodied over a original donor car, just like the Interceptor S. And while it would still look like a Jenson, as you can see from the official rendering above, the design would be much more modern. The Interceptor SX would get a luxurious interior on the inside and use an LS7 V8 making 620 horsepower for propulsion. To be offered at a price of &pound;145,000, the SX already has deposits from buyers of the Jenson S. As far as we're concerned, if you're going to revive the empire, this is the way to do it.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/">Jensen Interceptor S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/castle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/cottage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/engine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/front_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/jensen-interceptor-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/front2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.innovationcars.com/blog/jensen-interceptor-sx-the-ultimate-interceptor/">Innovation Cars</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/v-eight-developing-modern-jensen-interceptor-sx-supercar/">V Eight developing modern Jensen Interceptor SX supercar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:58:00 EST. <p>If you watched <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/23/video-first-episode-of-top-gear-season-11-is-out/">the first episode of <em>Top Gear</em>'s season 11,</a> you likely smirked at the lackluster Vauxhalls that the British bobbies have to drive in pursuit of "the baddies". But once in a while the constables in the UK gets something special in their motor-pools, like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/31/speeders-are-screwed-caparo-t1-police-edition/">Caparo T1</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/25/uk-sussex-police-get-lotus-exige-cruiser/">Lotus Exige</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/02/whats-all-this-then-lambo-lp640-for-london-met-police/">Lamborghini Murcielago LP640</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/18/ferrari-for-the-fuzz-uk-police-receive-612-scaglietti/">Ferrari 612 Scaglietti</a>. While few officers have actually had the chance to drive any of these epic exotics since they're used purely for demonstration purposes, the latest addition is here to stay: Prodrive has prepared a fleet of Subaru Impreza GB270s especially for the Automatic Number Plate Recognition Team at the Essex Police department.</p>
<p>Not only did Prodrive set up the vehicle for the team, commonly known as "The Intereptors", but the 21 officers that make up their ranks received a day of special instruction on how to get the most out of their new 270hp all-wheel-drive speed machines. As you can see in the press release after the jump, however, "The day was not about driving these cars fast, but understanding how and when to use their capability in a safe way." Way to make something exciting very boring, guv'na. </p>

SSPMustang is a site dedicated to the 1982 - 1993 Special Service Package Mustangs and the enthusiasts who find them and keep them going. You don't have to think that far back to recall when the sight of an tinted-out, unmarked 5.0 LX notch on the side of the highway was something you'd immediately jump on the brakes for. Many states had marked ones, too, and in all cases, they were manned by troopers ready to give pursuit. <br /><br />I clicked on the site's "For Sale" link out of curiosity, and lo and behold, there's a beauty up for grabs. The <a href="http://www.sspmustang.org/82CHP_For_sale.htm">1982 California Highway Patrol SSP 5.0L</a> you see above belongs to SSPMustang.org webmaster Mike Riley, and he's letting it go. As you can see, it's been fully restored, right down to the period-correct radios and reproduction "E" plates, among other things. The listing has an <a href="http://www.sspmustang.org/82CHP_For_sale.htm">extensively detailed</a> rundown on the car, its history, and the work done on it as well as several more large photos. Oakland county plans on saving $220,000 per year in lower fuel and vehicle costs by making the switch. Wayne County, which includes Detroit, began switching to the Impalas in 2005. While the Crown Vic looks almost cool in interceptor guise, the body-on-frame tank on wheels isn't exactly fast with its 239hp V8 engine, so the Impala should at least equal its velocity in high-speed chases. The county fleets will be transformed over a number of years, but the strategy may be short-lived due to the pending arrival of the RWD Impala in 2009 or 2010.<br /><br />Time will tell if the Impalas will hold up as well as the RWD Crown Vics, especially when the FWD cars jump a curb at speed, but for counties struggling to keep funding, hundreds of thousands of dollars per year is hard to pass up.<br /><br />[Source: Freep via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/police-non_truck/michigan-cops-debate-v6-cruisers-288453.php">Jalopnik]</a><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-impala-police-cruiser/low/">Chevy Impala Police Cruiser</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-impala-police-cruiser/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/x07fc_ch001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-impala-police-cruiser/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/x07fc_ch003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-impala-police-cruiser/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/x07fc_ch002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/14/michigan-cops-switching-to-cheaper-more-efficient-v6-impalas/">Michigan cops switching to cheaper, more efficient V6 Impalas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Aug 2007 14:32:00 EST. Well, it's not <em>exactly</em> the Interceptor concept, but spy shots of the 2008 <a href="http://autos.aol.com/ford-crown-victoria-2007:8365-overview">Crown Victoria</a> show that the <em>original</em> Police special will receive the Ford corporate three-bar grille when its refreshed. If the more masculine front clip isn't enough for you to spring for Ford's fleet maestro, then check out the new "special edition" badging complete with a crown adorning the colors of the Italian flag. The only other visible difference on the '08 donut delivery vehicle of choice is a puzzling strip of chrome at the bottom of the lower fascia which looks like a bling goatee. No word yet on powertrain, but the existing 4.6L V8 and a four speed automatic are good bets.<br /><br />It's difficult to understand why Ford would go to the trouble of doing anything other than a full remodel of the Crown Vic. However trivial the costs of the updates, given that the Vic is now available for fleet sales only, we can't see anybody looking at the 2008 Crown Victoria and saying anything other than.... <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/new-york-auto-show-its-donktacular-rides-does-up-a-taxi-skys/">TAXI!</a><br /><br />Click the Read link to see the full view of the Vickie's new three-bar grille. <br /><br />[Source: Popular Mechanics]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/27/spy-shots-ford-crown-victoria-special-edition-yay/">Spy Shots: Ford Crown Victoria Special Edition, Yay!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 13:36:00 EST. The Interceptor was the American Muscle representative of the trio, and like the Lincoln MKR it is also based on the Mustang's platform. In the fall of 2006, rumors began to swirl that Ford would take advantage of the popularity of the Mustang and build a four-door version. Mustang fans around the world howled in protest. <br /><br />There have been many variations of the Mustang over the past four decades, but none have ever had more than two doors for occupant ingress/egress. The idea of a four-door 'Stang was completely anathema. Ford quickly denied they were even considering a Mustang sedan, and once December 2006 rolled around and the print magazines began breaking press embargoes weeks in advance of the auto show, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief. <br /><br />Continue reading our impressions of the Interceptor after the jump.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/">Ford Interceptor concept drive</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_7475_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_7484_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_7478_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_7477_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/07/img_7469_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/">Ford Interceptor Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_13.j_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_14.j_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_07.j_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_08.j_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_09.j_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/26/live-from-dearborn-driving-the-ford-interceptor-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live from Dearborn: Driving the Ford Interceptor Concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/26/live-from-dearborn-driving-the-ford-interceptor-concept/">Live from Dearborn: Driving the Ford Interceptor Concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 13:13:00 EST. Spies from KGP have caught a rear-wheel drive Ford from Australia at Ford's engineering centers in Detroit. In fact, the car appears to be in the process of being unboxed after its long trip from Oz. What does it mean that this car, presumably a rear-wheel drive Falcon prototype, has landed on our shores? Well, let's start speculating. <br /><br />Clearly Ford is the last of the domestic automakers to take advantage of rear-wheel drive's resurgence. Nevertheless, Ford may be planning (we hope) to augment the wildly popular Mustang with a rear-wheel drive sedan. Such a strategy could follow the same path that General Motors has blazed by having Holden, its Australian brand, develop the rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform for export to various international markets including the U.S. We'll see GM's Zeta platform underpin the new Camaro and Pontiac G8 for sure, and possibly other big RWD sedans like the next-gen Impala. Likewise, Ford could be developing Australia's Falcon with international export in mind, meaning left-hand-drive will be a consideration from the get-go, as well as U.S. safety and emissions standards. That RWD platform could then be the basis for the next-gen Mustang, due a year or two after the decade's end, and a large sedan, either a replacement for the Crown Vic (unlikely) or an all-new sedan, possibly inspired by the hot <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-ford-interceptor-official-unveiling/">Interceptor Concept</a> from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. <br /><br />By the way, that entire last paragraph was wishful thinking, as we have no actual evidence Ford is currently developing the next-gen Falcon in this way. Prototypes from other markets show up on U.S. roads all the time, and it really doesn't mean anything in and of itself until an official word comes from Ford. Still, speculating about a production version of the Interceptor is more fun than being told it will never be built at all, so speculate we will.<br /><br />[Source: LLN] <br /><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/31/spies-spot-rwd-ford-in-detroit/">Spies spot RWD Ford in Detroit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 31 May 2007 14:24:00 EST. At this year's Detroit Auto Show, one of the unquestioned stars on the floor was the stunning 400-horsepower Lincoln MKR. We sat down with Peter in Detroit to talk about the 4-door coupe and how it's going to influence Lincoln's designs over the long term. We also touched on the latest iterations of the Ford Five hundred and Focus and how he'll continue the progression toward a unified corporate look for the oval. Peter's very charming, and he's passionate about restoring the grandeur to the Lincoln brand. Based on the MKR, we'd say he's definitely got a handle on things. Read on and decide for yourselves. It starts below and continues after the jump. <br /><br /><strong>Peter Horbury - Ford Executive Director of Design, North America<br />North American International Auto Show<br />January 8, 2007<br /></strong><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Autoblog:</span> Peter, thanks for sitting with us today. The MKR is obviously one of the big stars of the show this year, and there are several elements there that have generated a lot of conversation in the enthusiast community. Talk to us a little bit about what your approach was when you took on the MKR project. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Peter Horbury:</span> Okay. Well, the MKR's here really to establish Lincoln's new DNA which we're actively pursuing in the studio now on production projects. So really, we could choose I suppose what type of car on which to demonstrate this, and of course 4-door coupes seem to be just the right, perfect car for Lincoln eventually. So this is what we've done; produced a car which carries Lincoln's new DNA but also a lot of the cues that Lincoln had from its past. And all of the design details or design cues that we're using will appear -- they're about to appear - on the new Lincolns very soon, and for the next few years. So here we are with all of them on one car.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/12/detroit-auto-show-a-conversation-with-peter-horbury/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Auto Show: A conversation with Peter Horbury</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/12/detroit-auto-show-a-conversation-with-peter-horbury/">Detroit Auto Show: A conversation with Peter Horbury</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 12 Jan 2007 18:01:00 EST. Much was made of squircles and Super Chief design influences, but Mays also nodded toward the heart and soul of the concept - an E85-compatible Cammer 5.0L V8 and 6-speed manual gearbox, with a good ol'-fashioned short-throw shifter. <br /><br />FoMoCo then announced that it had finally woken up, realized what it means to be a truly American car company, and stated that it was making a Bold Move by immediately authorizing the Interceptor for production... oh, wait, that was the dream we had while nodding during the Focus intro. Rather, no plans for the Interceptor's future were mentioned, and the Interceptor was quietly chased off the stage by the next vehicle in Ford's procession. <br /><br />Yeah, the styling is a bit derivitive, and the interior is dark and weird, and the door handles don't work well at all, but we don't think any of that would matter much if Ford would bring to its showrooms a RWD sedan with an honest 400 hp and a row-your-own trans. <br /><br />Click <strong><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/">here</a></strong> to see the 17 new live shots of the Ford Interceptor we added to our gallery.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/125752/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/ford-interceptor-live---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/125745/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/ford-interceptor-live---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/125740/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/ford-interceptor-live---08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/125744/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/ford-interceptor-live---15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/125750/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/ford-interceptor-live---09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><strong>For our comprehensive listing of everything from Detroit, click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-debuts-and-galleries/">here</a>.</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-ford-interceptor-official-unveiling/">Detroit Auto Show: Ford Interceptor official unveiling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 07 Jan 2007 15:03:00 EST. If you liked those images, you'll be especially interested in the additional eight images of the concept that Ford released today, including plenty of interior shots and a view of the 4.6-liter Cammer V8 all dressed up in concept trim.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124423/"><img width="200" vspace="4" hspace="4" height="119" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_08.j_250.jpg" /></a>This is our first view of the Interceptor Concept's interior, and it sports a decidedly retro feel with its simple and straightforward shapes and materials. The most frequently occuring shape inside is called a squircle, basically a square with rounded corners. The steering wheel, speedometer, tach, shifter gate, vents... all squircles. <br /><br />The dominant surface material inside the Interceptor is black leather, so much so that driving it must feel like going for a ride in Fonzy's jacket pocket. The vast expanse of leather is broken up here and there by silver metal trim and the slightest hint of a caramel-colored stitching. The four bucket seats are all thin, flat curves with no side bolsters of which to speak. Thank goodness each one is equipped with a four-point belt, because driver and passengers will need them if any directional changes are called for. The front headrests retract into the ceiling when the car is parked and fall back down into place when it's time to roll, while a nice, thick center console bisects the interior and houses the short and stubby shifter. <br /><br />The interior reflects the same theme exhibited by the Interceptor's sheetmetal, which is simplicity. Some have harshed on the car for being derivitive and not overly complicated in its surface features, but that's what we happen to like about it. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124426/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_14.j_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124424/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_07.j_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124421/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_10.j_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124419/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_11.j_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/124420/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/fordinterceptorconcept_12.j_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/06/detroit-auto-show-ford-releases-more-intercepter-concept-images/">Detroit Auto Show: Ford releases more Interceptor Concept images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 06 Jan 2007 17:51:00 EST. Check out the official rules <a href="http://hybrids.autoblog.com/2006/12/13/do-not-publish-autoblog-podcast-relaunch-sweepstakes-1-ipod-s/">here</a> and <strong>subscribe</strong> to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes by clicking <strong><a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=">here</a></strong>.<br /><br />For episode #53, we continue our discussion of concept and production cars that have been unofficially debuted ahead of the Detroit Auto Show that begins this weekend. The Chrysler Group had three vehicles prematurely revealed, including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/28/chrysler-nassau-concept-ready-to-go-for-detroit/">Chrysler Nassau Concept</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/28/jeep-trailhawk-concept-arrives-ahead-of-detroit-show/">Jeep Trailhawk Concept</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/28/2008-dodge-viper-srt-10-breaks-cover-ahead-of-schedule/">2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10</a>, now with 600 ponies of ridiculous power. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/30/officially-official-2008-rolls-royce-phantom-drophead-coupe/">Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Convertible</a> also was revealed last week, but the biggest attention getter had to be the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/31/fords-big-gun-for-detroit-the-mustang-based-interceptor-concep/">Ford Interceptor Concept</a>, a rear-wheel drive Mustang-based sedan which gets a thorough once over on the podcast. Finally, news came in the past few days that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/02/next-ford-explorer-to-be-a-cuv/">next-generation Ford Explorer</a> would leave its truck roots and be born again as a large CUV. Along with our discussion of the news, we also read some feedback from listeners on how the new show is going. Enjoy!<br /><br /><a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s="><strong>SUBSCRIBE</strong></a> to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes<br /><a href="http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/podcasts/auto20070102_0053.mp3"><strong>LISTEN</strong></a> to the show now<br /><a href="http://podcasts.autoblog.com/rss.xml"><strong>ADD</strong></a> the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/03/autoblog-podcast-53-win-in-80gb-ipod-video-for-listening/">Autoblog Podcast #53: Win an 80GB iPod Video for listening!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Jan 2007 15:30:00 EST. The Interceptor, in Ford's defense, is not so much a four-door Mustang as it is a sedan that's based on the Mustang's chassis. In fact, Ford made an obvious effort to make the Interceptor <em>not</em> look like a four-door Mustang, instead grafting on the front end of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/08/detroit-auto-show-ford-super-chief-concept-truck-rolls-out/">Super Chief</a> truck concept that debuted in Detroit last year. The Interceptor also has a mighty engine to back up its beefy looks, a 5.0-liter version of Ford's 4.6-liter Cammer engine that produces 400 horsepower on E85 ethanol. <br /><br />The Interceptor, ladies and gentlemen, is Ford's stunner concept for the 2007 North American International Auto Show. Think about it, the Interceptor combines qualities of the two things that Ford does best, the Mustang and trucks, in one tidy, mass-marketable, rear-wheel drive package. It's slab-sided hotness reminds us of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/13/what-if-ford-had-made-all-the-right-moves/">427 Concept</a> from 2003, but with some extra chunkiness tossed in for good measure. Seriously, though, this car should be built, if not for the fact it's a slick way to profit from the Mustang connection, but also because Ford is going to need a large, rear-wheel drive car that's competitive in the very near future. Sorry Vickie, you just can't hold a candle to the Chrysler 300 or GM's upcoming Zeta-based sedans. The Interceptor looks like it can.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/119639/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/interceptor_r3_page_1_image_0001_450_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/119670/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/interceptorcon_04_200_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/119672/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/interceptorcon_05_200_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/119671/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/interceptorcon_03_200_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-interceptor-concept/119669/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/interceptorcon_02_200_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Check out Ford's official press release on the Interceptor after the jump, and click on the pic above to see a high-resolution version for you desktop.<br /><br />[Source: Ford]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/31/fords-big-gun-for-detroit-the-mustang-based-interceptor-concep/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ford's big gun for Detroit: the Mustang-based Interceptor Concept</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/31/fords-big-gun-for-detroit-the-mustang-based-interceptor-concep/">Ford's big gun for Detroit: the Mustang-based Interceptor Concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 31 Dec 2006 00:00:00 EST. <p>Ford's SOHC 4.6L V8 isn't exactly known for its potential to make big power, and saddling it with over two tons of mass means that Crown Vics aren't exactly feared on the streets unless they're being driven by a police officer. Sal Mennella from <a href="http://www.powersurgeperformance.net/">Power Surge Performance</a> (a shop specializing in Ford PCM tuning) developed a solution for this problem, however, in the form of a supercharged 5.4L that he snagged from Ford's defunct Lightning sport truck. As delivered from the factory, this engine was usually good for about 330 rear-wheel horsepower - a substantial improvement over the sub-200 RWHP provided by the stock motor. </p>
<p>As if that wasn't enough, the stock Eaton blower was replaced with the substantially more efficient <a href="http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/product.asp?ProdID=1170">Whipple supercharger</a> to provide more boost. The stock heads and throttle body remain, though, as do the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. This combination produces nearly <a href="http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&amp;Board=performance&amp;Number=1276573&amp;page=0&amp;view=collapsed&amp;sb=5&amp;o=365&amp;fpart=1&amp;vc=1">540 horsepower</a> at the rear wheels, as well as a dead-flat torque curve that maintains more than 500 lb-ft over the entire duration of the dyno pull. </p>
<p>This has us convinced that Ford should offer a GT500 version of the CV - just so long as it promises not to offer them to law enforcement agencies. </p>

Wednesday's pick, a 1974 Jensen Interceptor, is a rare find of which most of us have probably never heard. Jensen was a small automaker that sprang up in Britain before WWII. Making a name as a body builder for such marques as Volvo and Austin-Healey, Jensen surprised everyone when in 1966 it unveiled its own car, the Interceptor, a grand sports tourer that brought together an Italian body designed by Touring in Milan, a tire shredding Mopar V8 and Chrysler three-speed tranny, and British engineering developed in-house by Jensen. The Interceptor is a 2+2 that carries on its back a singular trademark cue, the fishbowl rear glass that increases the car's luggage capacity and makes a great conversation piece at car shows. Despite mild success with the car during ten years of production, Jensen declared bankruptcy just two years after this particular Interceptor was sold new in 1974.<br /><br />The mileage of the Interceptor in these pictures is unknown, but it's in damn fine shape for a 36-year-old automobile, especially one made in Britain. Follow the jump for more pics and a view of the Interceptor's fisheye rear glass.<br /><br style="font-style: italic;" /><span style="font-style: italic;">If you'd like to see your own ride featured here, simply upload photos of your ride into our </span><a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/autoblog/" style="font-style: italic;">Flickr group</a><span style="font-style: italic;">.
