Looks like American Chopper star Paul Teutel, Sr. has decided his 2011 Pontiac Trans Am Hurst Edition is getting boring. His reworked 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS, Smokey and the Bandit-style rebody and paint scheme was put up for auction on eBay Motors this week.

There are changes beneath that bodywork as well. For starters, the LS3 V8 is supplemented by a big centrifugal blower. Inside, a chrome Hurst shifter and gold-and-black interior further cement the theme of mustachioed 1970s badassery.

While we found the $125,000 "Buy It Now" price a bit galling, either someone else didn't and has already snapped up the faux Pontiac, or the seller has pulled the sale for one reason or another. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for a relisting, but that shouldn't stop you from stealing a few looks at Teutel's made-up musclecar in our gallery
eBay Find of the Day: Teutel Senior's Camaro-based 2011 Pontiac Trans Am Hurst Edition originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 18 Sep 2011 19:55:00 EST.
Hurst is thinking bigger for its next automotive offering. Rather than turning wrenches on the Camaro, Challenger or Mustang, Hurst has focused its attention to the 2011 Ram 1500 pickup.

Starting with a 2011 Ram 1500 R/T regular-cab, Hurst adds its signature white-and-black paint scheme, badging, interior upgrades, Hurst colors on the factory 22-inch wheels, and a numbered dash plaque.

Looks are only part of the package. Hurst adds power underhood by fitting a supercharger to the Ram's 5.7-liter Hemi V8, then adding a performance exhaust system. Unfortunately, we don't have any figures yet. We're anxious to hear what the Hurst Hemi Hauler is putting down to the pavement.

Only 50 of these sport trucks will be built annually, and each comes with a letter of authenticity. No word yet on pricing, but expect to pay more than $50,000 and less than $100,000.

Proving that SEMA is more than just loud stereos and long buffet lines, we wanted to share with you our first in-person shots of the Hurst Redline Series Chevrolet Camaro. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of BFGoodrich's Radial T/A tire, Hurst has supplied each example of this limited-edition car with Spec Redline Edition Radial T/As. Under the hood, the Redline Series Camaro utilizes a 3.6-liter V6 engine but Hurst has added forced induction to the powertrain and as a result, power has risen to 360 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharger from STS is remotely mounted towards the rear of the car. The Camaro gains 50-percent more rear-wheel horsepower and torque over the standard V6, yet it still delivers 30 percent better fuel economy than the SS V8.

Sticking to the company's common theme of Hurst-centric styling touches inside and out, the car wears a black and white paint scheme that is offset with red pinstriping, large Hurst emblems on the front fenders, a ducktail spoiler off the rear of the car, badging on the exterior and interior and features the familiar pistol-grip shifter in the cabin.

The Hurst Redline Series Camaro is going to be limited to just 50 examples annually. Pricing is expected to fall in the mid-$50,000 range.

We've seen how Hurst Hemi Challengers are put together, but the last time we tried to drive one we couldn't get above 25 mph because of the prototype wheels. To correct that hideous oversight, Hurst slapped a couple of production wheels on a black and a white version of their Challenger, and we took both out for their yearly physicals. Just like the song went, it was ebony and ivory living in perfect harmony. Like King Kong and the Abominable Snowman. Follow the jump for the story.
If you're like us, you certainly wouldn't mind being able to park a neo-Hurst muscle cars in your garage. Unfortunately, we'd have to sell the farm, most of our loved ones and a kidney or two just to lay claim to one of the company's individually-numbered bruisers. How 'bout some good news, then?

For a fraction of the cost of a gold-and-white beauty, Hurst will be more than happy to convert any new Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang into a genuine Hurst creation. All you need to do is have the vehicle delivered to the Hurst Garage in Irvine, California, pick which parts you want installed and let the shifting gurus take care of the rest.

Hurst will even go so far as to give each vehicle an individually numbered dash plaque and record the car's VIN for posterity. Customers can choose from suspension components, sport-tuned exhaust, wheels, spoilers and the like as well as the typical trick shifters. If you're planning on swapping in a few aftermarket parts on your new pony car, this would seem like a fine way to go about it.

The gang at Hurst Performance Vehicles are unleashing their first ever turbocharged machine in honor of the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. Only 50 of the Redline Series Hurst Camaros are to be produced annually with each powered by a force-fed 3.6-liter V6. Power will flow to 18-inch Hurst T1 wheels with new Radial T/A Spec tires.

Hurst installs what it calls a "remoted-mounted" turbocharger on its modified exhaust, which actually doesn't sound like a very good idea if you're concerned about lag. Output should be about 360 horsepower and 320 pound-feet at the rear wheels - a 50-percent bump from stock. Inside, the turbocharged Camaro gets a pistol grip shift lever, custom leather upholstery and floor mats and an optional gauge package.

The Redline Series Camaro will sticker in the mid-$50,000 range depending on the options selected.

2010 Hurst Ford Mustang Pace Car - Click above for high-res image gallery

Ford and Hurst have a long and illustrious history of working together to create special edition Mustangs, and the latest fruits of their labor can be seen in our high-res image gallery below. The 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car will make its first official appearance during the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race that will be held at Virginia International Raceway on April 25, 2010.

There will only be one 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car, and it will make appearances at the Hot Rod Power Tour, a slew of Larry H. Miller dealerships and finally at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas before being auctioned off next January. Proceeds from the car's sale will benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. A hot Mustang convertible for a worthy cause... what's not to like?

Though you won't be able to march into your local Ford dealership and drive off in a new Hurst 'Stang, you will be able to get "promotional items" inspired by the car... including 'skins' for pinewood derby racers. Sadly, the miniature version won't be sporting the full-size car's polished 20-inch wheels, Hurst shifter or 550-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. What they will have in common, though, is the iconic black and gold Hurst color scheme. See below for images and click past the break for the press release.

Last year Hurst brought out their spectacular 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper to Barrett-Jackson, selling it for $275,000 to benefit their favorite charity, Victory Junction. They are back again for 2010, this time with the Mustang Convertible Pace Car that was actually used in the Mustang Challenge race series. The car was donated by Woodhouse Auto Family, Hurst Performance Vehicles and other suppliers to help children attend Victory Junction's newest Camp for Kids in Kansas City.

The car features plenty of performance upgrades including a Roush supercharger, Eibach suspension, Magnaflow exhaust, 20-inch Hurst wheels and a custom white interior. Being an official pace car, it's also got the cool light bar and headlights that can alternately flash. All of that combined with the motivation of charity brought a final bid of $120,000. You can read the vehicle's full description after the jump.
2010 Hurst Performance Series Camaro - Click above for a high-res image gallery

We can't believe it's been just a year since Hurst unveiled its stunning white and gold Hemi Challenger. Since that time we've seen a few variations, including different color combinations and the Competition/Plus model, and we even got to see how the cars were built. Up to this point, all of Hurst's production models have been Challengers, but when the company showed off a one-off Camaro and Mustang convertible, we figured production versions wouldn't be far away. We were right.

Yesterday afternoon, Hurst pulled the covers off the new Performance Series Mustang and Camaro, each with a slightly different take on Hurst's classic color combinations. Both cars get the kind of performance upgrades you would expect from Hurst including a supercharger, Magnaflow exhaust system, Eibach suspension components, Hurst Competition/Plus shifters and 20-inch wheels and tires. Each car also gets Katzkin leather inserts, embroidered floor mats, and a dash plaque. Just 50 examples of each will be built, and judging by how fast the Challengers sold, you will need to put your order in quickly if you want one. Follow the jump for full details on both cars, and be sure to check out both of the high-res galleries below.

We've seen a rendering of the 2010 Hurst Mustang pace car, but this is the first time we're seeing the car in the <strike>flesh</strike> pixels. And... not bad at all. Sure, perhaps the wheels are a bit much, but we love the stripes. The basket handle doesn't even look too bad and at least it's functional - it serves as a home for the low-profile light bar.

Lest we forget, the Mustang Challenge pace car features a Roush supercharger that boosts horsepower from 315 all the way up to 435, and there are also some suspension tweaks to go along with the extra grunt. Suddenly, racing under caution looks a bit more entertaining. Best of all -- to future owners -- only fifty copies will be made. Full press release after the jump.

The SEMA Show is coming up fast, and already we're hearing about all the new tuner vehicles we'll get to see on the show floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center come November. One of those cars will be a one-off 2010 Hurst Camaro to be auctioned off on eBay Motors starting two weeks before the show. The original car was generously donated by GM, and proceeds from the auction will go to benefit SEMA's Memorial Scholarship Fund that supports students who want to pursue careers in the aftermarket industry.

This unique Camaro features a paint scheme opposite to the Silver and Black Series 4 Challenger with red and silver stripes painted over Brilliant Black. The car also comes with a Hurst AIR-SPEED decklid spoiler, 20-inch polished forged wheels wrapped with BFGoodrich tires, Eibach suspension components, Magnaflow exhaust system and exterior Hurst badges. Of course, no Hurst-built car would come without a new shifter, and the Camaro gets a Competition/Plus unit with a red anodized HARD-DRIVE billet handle. Final touches include embroidered floor mats, a personalized dash plaque and signatures from the Hurst executive team under the trunk lid.
There's no official word on whether Hurst will build a production version of the Camaro to join the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Viper and Pontiac G8 models that are currently available, but we wouldn't bet against it. Full details on the Hurst Camaro and the auction can be found in the press release after the jump.

It's been a busy year for Hurst Performance Vehicles. They launched their limited-edition Dodge Challenger at SEMA last November, followed by the 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper, and most recently, they announced the addition of the Pontiac G8 to their lineup. Come mid-September, though, you can add one more to that list. Hurst and BFGoodrich tires have teamed up to create a one-off 2010 Mustang GT Convertible that will serve as the pace car for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park on September 19. Afterward, the car will attend various events including SEMA, and will eventually be auctioned off for charity at the start of 2010.

Following the same themes as other Hurst vehicles, the Mustang has a spec sheet that reads nearly identical to the Challenger. The exterior gets a white and gold paint scheme accented by Hurst 20-inch forged wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich KDW tires. A supercharger lies underneath the hood (although it's a Roush roots-type rather than a Vortech centrifugal blower), that pushes the 4.6-liter V8 to 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torque. Eibach suspension components, a Magnaflow exhaust system, Hurst Competition/Plus short throw shifter, and Katzkin leather interior round out the list of modifications. Read more about the Hurst Ford Mustang Pace Car in the press release after the jump.

[Source: Hurst Performance Vehicles]
Continue reading 2010 Hurst Mustang to serve pace duties for Ford Racing Mustang Challenge

2010 Hurst Mustang to serve pace duties for Ford Racing Mustang Challenge originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 14:28:00 EST.
We happen to love the gold theme on the Hurst Challenger, whether paired with black or white paint, but we could see why not everyone would want something so...gold. Apparently Hurst felt the same way, and has announced that customers can now choose a silver and black paint scheme with red trim, coinciding with the company's traditional colors.

The cars, all of which come with a unique production number and certificate of authenticity from Hurst, feature a red anodized pistol grip shifter, 20-inch forged wheels with graphite gray painted spoke inserts, red perforated leather inserts and stitching, and Hurst logos on the dash, grille, wheel caps, floor mats, and on the front fenders. The Performance Series cars also come standard with Eibach suspension upgrades, a Magnaflow exhaust system, BFGoodrich KDW tires, and an optional Vortech supercharger.
When we last visited the Hurst facility in Irvine, CA, we noticed something unusual. While nearly all of the Challengers were painted in either white or black, a lone Challenger painted in B5 Blue sat tucked away in a corner. When we inquired about the car, we were told that we would find out soon enough. Well, we know now, as Hurst has just unveiled a Competition/Plus package for the Dodge Challenger at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, CA.

The Competition/Plus project was started in an effort to provide a more affordable package, as well as appeal to customers who might not necessarily want the classic gold paint schemes. Named after the legendary shifter that helped make Hurst famous, the package includes only the essentials: an Eibach suspension system, Magnaflow exhaust system, Hurst 20-inch alloy wheels, color-matched leather inserts and stitching for the interior, matte black exterior accents, and, of course, a Competition/Plus short throw shifter with the classic white ball. We're told the package is available on any color of Challenger, whether it's the B5 Blue pictured here, Hemi Orange, TorRed or any other.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but full details on the car should be released soon. Until then, take a look at our exclusive gallery of photographs that were given the chance to snap a couple of days before the car's release.

Gallery: Hurst Competition/Plus Challenger

Photos copyright (C)2009 Drew Phillips / Weblogs, Inc.
Exclusive: Hurst announces Competition/Plus Dodge Challenger originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 09:58:00 EST.
The Pontiac brand may be on its way out the door, but that doesn't mean it can't have one last fling with a renowned tuner. Hurst Performance Vehicles, the legendary shifter company that most recently has made waves with its Hemi Challenger, announced its new H.O. program for the Pontiac G6 and G8. Few details have been released regarding the performance upgrades of the cars, but each will feature Hurst's signature black/gold or white/gold paint scheme, forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension upgrades, and a newly trimmed interior.

To help with the development of the car, Hurst also brought on performance icon "Doc" Watson, who developed such vehicles as the Hurst Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Pontiac SSJ. Only 52 Hurst H.O. Pontiacs will be built along with ten G6 convertibles used as parade and special event vehicles. More details regarding the performance upgrades will be announced on August 1st, but until then all the available information can be found in the press release after the jump.
Continue reading Hurst announces Pontiac H.O.
At SEMA last year, the legendary shifter company Hurst made huge waves with its Hemi Challenger. We've been following Hurst's progress of the cars ever since, and even got the chance to get behind the wheel of the prototype car for a brief stint. We recently made the trip down to Hurst Performance Vehicles' headquarters in Irvine, CA to see just how stock Challengers are transformed into one of their limited edition muscle cars.

You might think that Hurst would be hard pressed to find customers in today's economy, but we were surprised to see their building overflowing with Challengers. There were completely stock cars that had just been delivered, cars getting superchargers and suspension upgrades, and plenty of complete cars waiting to be delivered to their lucky new owners.

Hurst was kind enough to give us a full tour of the facility, and showed us exactly what goes into making one of their Challengers, whether it's a base Series 2 model or a full blown Series 5 with all the bells and whistles. Follow us on our tour in the gallery below, which includes high-res photographs and detailed descriptions that follow a Hurst Challenger from start to finish.

Gallery: How It's Made: Hurst Hemi Dodge Challenger

Photos copyright (C)2009 Drew Phillips / Weblogs, Inc.
How It's Made: Hurst Hemi Dodge Challenger originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 19:57:00 EST.
Autoblog was the first media outlet that was granted access to the matte gold-colored Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper. Unfortunately, our pockets aren't nearly deep enough to actually purchase one for ourselves. We did, however, manage to witness the sale of the very first model down the assembly line to one very lucky bidder here in Scottsdale, AZ, at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction. Included in the deal were an adjustable Motion Sport Suspension with Eibach springs, a custom Corsa exhaust system and a fresh set of Hurst black chrome wheels sized 19-inches up front and 20-inches in the rear. Oh, and a custom dash-mounted plaque with the buyer's name engraved on it for all to see. How cool is that? Wondering what sum of money it took to secure rights to the first Hurst Anniversary Viper of 50? Exactly $275,000 after auction fees. In what has been a very charitable night, Woodhouse Dodge vowed to donate the profits from the sale to Victory Junction who runs a camping facility for chronically ill children.

Gallery: Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper

Photos copyright (C)2009 Drew Phillips / Weblogs, Inc.
Continue reading Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst Viper good as gold, sells for $275,000

Barrett-Jackson 2009: Hurst Viper good as gold, sells for $275,000 originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 23:42:00 EST.
Ron Flint, president of Hurst Performance, is quick to let you know that founder George Hurst's original intent was to make hot rods for gentlemen. It is ironic, then, that for the revived company's 50th anniversary, it has thrown its energies into a car that isn't a hot rod, and certainly isn't for gentlemen: a Dodge Viper. Leaving the heart of the beast well enough alone, Hurst merely tinkered with some oily bits, stuffed the thing with leather, and then slathered it in a hue something like a monochrome sunset. Autoblog was invited to be the first to drive the Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper, and you know what we discovered? There's (matte) gold in them thar hills.
Click above for high-res image gallery of the 50th Anniversary Hurst/Viper

Legendary maker of all things used to shift, Hurst has taken some time out today to unveil the car that will mark its 50th year of building specialty performance vehicles under the banner of Hurst Performance. That car is the appropriately named the 50th Anniversary Hurst/Viper. Since adding more power to the Viper's 600-hp 8.4L V10 engine is akin to putting Yao Ming in heels, Hurst instead focused mostly on the aesthetics. The Hurst/Viper, of which only 50 will be made, comes only in two color combos that commemorate the official colors of the company: Black with Gold stripes or White with Gold Stripes. Of course, it wouldn't be a Hurst car without a Hurst shifter, so these special Vipers will be fitted with the company's new HARD-DRIVE gold anodized pistol grip shifter. Also from the company catalogue are Hurst 19- and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The interior is shrink wrapped in Katzkin charcoal leather that's embroidered with the Hurst logo and touched off with gold stitching and perforated leather inserts.

It's hard to modify a car of the Viper's caliber and not play with the performance a little, so Hurst did add a Corsa exhaust and Moton Club Sport adjustable coil-over suspension to make it that much more special than stock. The first of 50 examples will be auctioned off next week at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in Arizona with all proceeds being donated to Victory Junction, which runs a camping facility for chronically ill children.

Gallery: 50th Anniversary Hurst/Viper

[Source: Hurst Performance Vehicles]
Continue reading 50th Anniversary Hurst/Viper unveiled, to be auctioned for charity

50th Anniversary Hurst/Viper unveiled, to be auctioned for charity originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 14:31:00 EST.
