After the retirement of Jim Dunne, a thorn in the side of Detroit's finest for decades, comes word that Hans Lehmann, the man that's enraged his fair share of automakers abroad, is hanging up his Nikon.

Lehmann's ability to capture all the happenings on the Nurburgring solidified his place in spy photographer infamy and in several circles, is credited with causing automakers to deliberately run their camo'd mules on the 'Ring, hoping to catch Lehmann's lens.

While it's sad to see this legend of automotive espionage move onto greener pastures, we're comfortable with the knowledge that in this new media landscape, thousands of camera-toting pistonheads and their professional counterparts will continue to provide us with the images we love to obsess over. The players might be changing, but the game remains the same. Let the good times roll.

UPDATE: Brenda Priddy took the time to inform us that Lehmann Photo Syndication is still in existence, but was bought out when Mr. Lehmann retired. So you'll still see the name on photos, but not because Hans was behind the lens.

[Source: Autoweek]
'Ring spy needed: Hans Lehmann out of the spy photog game originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 17 Apr 2008 15:36:00 EST. This is just too sad for words. You'll have to click through to see the pics for yourself. A new Audi RS8 undergoing some high-performance testing at the 'Ring burned to the ground before firefighters could douse the flames. The driver apparently escaped unharmed, but this beautiful sports car was lost. We suppose this is one of the reasons that manufacturers do extensive testing before releasing products to the public,.

We don't have a lot of details besides the photos by Hans Lehmann, but we know the images can be painful for fans of the R8 and this even more advanced version. The RS8 is the higher performance version of the already quick R8. Rumor has it we'll see a V10 in the engine bay when it finally gets all the bugs worked out and reaches showrooms. Some even say it will be packing as much as 600 hp, although with Lamborghini's Superleggera Gallardo only sporting 530, it would be an interesting corporate conflict if Audi is allowed to go large on the G.

[Source: Winding Road]
Spy Shots: Audi RS8 burns on the Ring originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 09 Apr 2007 13:28:00 EST. We've covered this significant new car dozens of times, but with the Mondeo's launch rapidly approaching, the inevitable spy shots of near production-ready versions are increasing. Hans Lehmann spotted this spotted version of a wagon on its way to Scandinavian cold weather testing, and World Car Fans has the photos. Make sure you click over to see several other shots of this handsome estate, as these are the cleanest views out there right now. There's even a nice chop that removes the dots for your viewing pleasure. Very sharp looking wagon that reminds us of the Mazda6. First deliveries are expected in the Spring.

[Source: WorldCarFans]
Spy Shots: Ford Mondeo Wagon originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 13 Dec 2006 16:59:00 EST. Maybe something along the lines of a neo LM002. Lamborghini spokesmen have said that they are considering entering new segments but pointed out that retro was not an option. With a corporate platform available that has produced everything from a VW to a Porsche, and a rumored Bentley sport-ute dropping soon, it doesn't seem too hard to believe. Ace spy photog Hans Lehmann has just captured what he thinks might be a Lambo SUV mule, disguised as a deep-chinned Cayenne.

By following the links you'll not only see several shots of this muscular Porsche, but also the full-sized version of the pic at right, which looks a bit like a Silly Puttied Gallardo. Although the mind reels at the thought of Porsche developing a Lamborghini, the G and Murci have already had German hands massaging every inch of them, and Porsche has already done a good job with the Audi Q7 and the Volkswagen Touareg.

The Gallardo-derived V-10 from the Audi S6 and S8 is likely to find its way underhood, as well as possibly a smaller 4.5-liter V-8. And it's not too big of a leap to think this might be the first Lambo to offer a diesel option since the old tractor days. While the mule doesn't offer a lot info other than the deep front fascia and the big wheel arches, the concept sketch reminds us of the Murano a bit and makes the thought of a non-military inspired Lamborghini SUV somewhat more palatable.

[Source: Winding Road]
Spy Shots: Lambo 'ute rendering and pics originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 28 Nov 2006 07:02:00 EST.
