18Vintage Renault R8 Gordini footage shows how fun rear-engined cars can be

Admit it – you occasionally spend hours on YouTube, watching footage from vintage rallies and pining for days gone by, don't you? That's okay, we're guilty of occasionally overindulging in classic motorsports footage ourselves. Case in point: this swinging little number featuring the Renault 8 Gordini, circa 1964.

4Renault's Gordini to focus on track-oriented models

Following Renault's tie-up with Caterham to produce Alpine sports cars, Renault's sub-branding bifurcation is taking more sensible shape. When the French brand announced the revival of the Gordini brand in 2010, the plan was that Gordini cars would "slot in above the current Renaultsport offerings." 9Renault teams up with Gibson for special edition guitar and Wind Roadster

Imagine the car that most accurately approximates the spirit of rock music. A Dodge Challenger with a Hemi under the hood? A Ford F-150? Maybe an old Lincoln? How about a Renault Wind? Well, maybe not, but the French automaker is, at least, the one that has teamed up with Gibson for a pair of unique creations.

7Renault stripes up the base Clio with Gordini edition

Renault's handling of its Gordini revival has been disappointing. Now the base Clio is getting an all-show, no-go Gordini package as well.

The Wind Gordini, though technically a performance version of Renault's subcompact roadster, is expected to be powered by the automaker's fuel-efficient 1.6-liter gasoline engine that cranks out 131 horsepower.

7REPORT: Renault to relaunch Gordini performance brand in 2010

While it may seem like an inopportune time to exhume a performance marque, that's just what Renault is up to, says Car. According to the U.K. glossy, Renault will relaunch the Gordini brand in Europe next year with a new Twingo variant. You may recall that it was recently revealed that the French automaker's plans to bring back its storied Alpine product line has been axed, but the decades-dormant Gordini is apparently a different matter altogether.
