<br /> The Earl of March is our hero. There, we've said it. The guy took some of his substantial inheritance and decided to do something charitable for the public with it. He had the old Goodwood Motor Circuit cleaned up after decades of neglect and resurrected the great racing that had taken place at the circuit back in the Forties, Fifties, and early Sixties. Literally. The entrants have to have been eligible to race when the circuit was open originally, so only cars made from 1948-1966 make the grade.<br /> <br /> The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Goodwood+Revival/">Goodwood Revival</a>, as the event is now known, revives the glory days of racing, when gentleman racers could drive their Sports Cars and GTs to the track, run them for all they were worth, then pack 'em up and drive them back home. Goodwood also happened to host Formula 1 races and Tourist Trophy runs back in the day, so the entry list is pretty amazing.<br /> <br /> Besides the incredible cars and A-List automotive celebs that show up for the event, the Revival is famous for one other thing: Participants and spectators are encouraged to dress in period clothing. So it's basically the world's biggest costume party held at a racetrack. How cool is that? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/22/2009-goodwood-revival-minis-moss-and-more/">Follow the jump</a> to hear more about the 2009 running of the Revival, and make sure you check out the incredible gallery of photos by contributor Tim Brown. We bet you'll find a few new wallpapers in the batch.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/">2009 Goodwood Revival</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/09goodwoodrevival---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/09goodwoodrevival---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/09goodwoodrevival---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/09goodwoodrevival---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-goodwood-revival/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/09goodwoodrevival---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 Tim Brown / Weblogs, Inc</small>.</strong><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/2009-goodwood-revival-minis-moss-and-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2009 Goodwood Revival: Minis, Moss and More</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/23/2009-goodwood-revival-minis-moss-and-more/">2009 Goodwood Revival: Minis, Moss and More</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 16:29:00 EST. <br />At the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March, Bentley unveiled its fastest most powerful road car in its 90 year history in the form of the Continental Supersports. Besides significantly reducing the weight of the existing Continental GT, the Supersports marked the first step of Bentley's move reduce its carbon dioxide emissions, in this case through the use of ethanol as a fuel for the 6.0-liter twelve-cylinder engine. <br /><br />The Supersports is the first flex-fuel vehicle from the British luxury marque. At this month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bentley asked repeat Le Mans winner Derek Bell to spend the weekend ferrying lucky passengers up the hillclimb course in a prototype at elevated speeds. While we couldn't be there to experience the ride for ourselves, Bentley has just released the next best thing - a gallery of high-res images and a video that you can check out <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/derek-bell-runs-the-bentley-continental-supersports-at-goodwood/">after the jump</a>. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/">Goodwood 2009: Bentley Continental Supersports</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/bentley_css-04-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/bentley_css-08-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/bentley_css-07-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/bentley_css-02-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-2009-bentley-continental-supersports/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/bentley_css-03-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Bentley]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/derek-bell-runs-the-bentley-continental-supersports-at-goodwood/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Derek Bell runs the Bentley Continental Supersports at Goodwood [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/derek-bell-runs-the-bentley-continental-supersports-at-goodwood/">Derek Bell runs the Bentley Continental Supersports at Goodwood [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 15 Jul 2009 14:59:00 EST. <br />Last year, Rod Millen took his Toyota Tacoma Pike's Peak runner to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. <br /><br />Looking, sounding, and handling nothing like a Tacoma, and powered by - according to the caption - a "2-little turbocharged 4-cylinder," Millen flings the thing up the hill, all the while the forced-induction drivetrain is chattering away like a pack of rabid chipmunks. He manages to avoid the hay bales, but then nearly collects what looks like a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtjGZWjh_iQ">Bowler Nemesis</a> at the end for his troubles. <div align="center"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">2010 Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special - Click above for high-res image gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />With its aggressive stance, classic lines and deep-throated growl, it'd take a really breathtaking array of exotic machinery to let a car like the Jaguar XKR go by unnoticed. Unfortunately for Jaguar, that's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-mega-gallery/">exactly what rolls up Lord March's lawn</a> every summer for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The stoic British marque has a long history of participation in the event, and came this year with its 225mph XFR and a host of rare classics. But apparently eager to make its mark, Jaguar turned up with a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/">special-edition XKR</a>, painting it a retina-burning shade of lime green with orange decals, just to make sure it got noticed.<br /><br />The Goodwood Special upgrades the stock XKR with a lowered suspension, retuned exhaust, 21-inch alloys and satin graphite trim replacing the chrome. But the real treat is under the hood, where Coventry's finest have squeezed out a further twenty ponies from the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 for a total of 530 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque. Considering that the (anything but) ordinary 510 hp version rockets to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, the extra power promises to take the sport coupe into even more rarified territory. Unfortunately for the time being the Goodwood Special remains a one-off, but Jaguar is reportedly keeping its ear to the ground for enough feedback to offer a limited production run. <br />The Goodwood Festival of Speed took place last weekend at the Earl of March's home in West Sussex, England. Like every year, this event attracted throngs of auto fans from around the world, as well as celebrities (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128112/">Jay Leno</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128052/">Peter Fonda</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128109/">Jesse James</a>, etc.), manufacturers and motorsports teams. <br /><br />The Hillclimb that takes place on 1.19 miles of Goodwood Estate's parkland roads served as the main attraction, and we've got plenty of shots of the action. Vehicles like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128035/">Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss</a> (driven by Moss himself, no less), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128034/">Bertone Mantide</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128112/">McLaren F1 GTR</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128065/">Porsche 911 GT1</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128061/">Pagoni Zonda <strike>Cinque</strike> R</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/2128027/">Audi R15 TDI</a> and a whole bunch of F1 cars can be seen attacking the hill. A few NASCAR race cars from various eras even jumped the puddle to attend. We've also got photo coverage of the Forest Rally Stage, as well as shots of the general atmosphere on the Earl of March's lawn over the weekend.<br /><br />Check it all out in the gallery below, complete with descriptions to help you follow along.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/">Goodwood Festival of Speed 2009</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwood09_timbrown009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Ferrari 599XX" title="Ferrari 599XX" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwood09_timbrown019_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwood09_timbrown000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwood09_timbrown001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwood09_timbrown002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Photos: Tim Brown/ <a href="http://www.motion-captured.com/">Motion Captured</a>, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/motion-captured/">Flickr</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/goodwood-festival-of-speed-2009-mega-gallery/">Goodwood Festival of Speed 2009 Mega Gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 19:56:00 EST. <br />We'll have our own images from last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed for you in a jiffy, but until then we thought we'd share with you the fun that Ferrari had on the Earl of March's state. The Italian exotic car maker brought three stallions to the party: the new California, 599 GTB Fiorano with the HGTE package and the limited edition Scuderia Spider 16M. While all three models participated in the legendary Goodwood hillclimb, the Scuderia Spider 16M put on a particularly impressive show, covering the 1.16-mile hillclimb in just 59 seconds. <br /><br />After the jump you'll find in-car video of the Scuderia Spider 16M's hillclimb run, along with equally cool but slightly slower vids of the California and 599 gTB Fiorano. We've also included a gallery of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-at-2009-goodwood-festival-of-speed/2127832/">high-res images</a> showing exactly how much fun Ferrari had at Goodwood this year. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Porsche world record attempt - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />What's the most common Pavlovian response to the name "Porsche?" Thinking of people running on treadmills, right? If you had a different thought, consider that treadmills were front and center at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, where 12 runners set a new world record for the longest distance covered in 48 hours: 539.86 miles. The previous world record of 495.76 miles was set in back in April 2008. <br /><br />This weekend's event was organized by sports scientists at the Porsche Human Performance Centre, a name that prompted us to make sure it wasn't April 1. This is a real thing, though, and their "careful preparation" and special Adidas shoes helped each runner complete their 45-mile shifts - at an average speed of 11.3 mph - over the weekend. We appreciate what Porsche is trying to do here, but we'll take <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/07/01/porsche-randd-says-electric-911-possible-needs-more-development/">an electric 911</a> and just suck down a few Gatorades when it's ready. Thanks. Check out the high-res gallery below and the official press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/">Human Performance Centre World Record Attempt</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/58090-g-por-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/58090-f-por-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/58090-d-por-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/58090-c-por-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/human-performance-centre-world-record-attempt/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/58090-b-por-_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/porsche-enhances-humans-to-set-guinness-world-record-for-48-hour/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche enhances humans to set Guinness World Record for 48-hour distance run</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/06/porsche-enhances-humans-to-set-guinness-world-record-for-48-hour/">Porsche enhances humans to set Guinness World Record for 48-hour distance run</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 14:32:00 EST. <br />The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place this weekend, and every year the Earl of March, who manages the 12,000-acre Goodwood estate that hosts the event, commissions a giant art piece honoring that year's featured marque. Audi is the featured marque this year, which is timely since the Ingolstadt-based automaker is also celebrating its centennial. <br /><br />This year's sculpture that was commissioned for Audi is a big swoosh of tire tracks with a 1937 Auto Union streamliner and new Audi R8 V10 suspended at either end. Standing 135-feet tall and weighing 40 tonnes, as they say in Britain, the piece is made entirely of steel to support itself without braces or cables. <a href="http://www.judah.co.uk/">Gerry Judah</a> is the designer, as he has been for Goodwood's featured art installations since 1997 when he first designed one for Ferrari. This is also the second time he's produced a piece for Audi, the first one being back in 1999. <br /><br />It goes without saying that we all want to stick this in the flower bed in our front yard, but unfortunately you'll only be able to see it if you're in West Sussex this weekend to enjoy the Goodwood Festival of Speed. <br /><br />Check out more pics of this year's Audi sculpture, as well as art pieces from prior years, in the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/">Goodwood Festival of Speed Art Sculptures</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/goodwood-festival-of-speed-art-sculptures/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/goodwoodsculptures004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Audi, Photos courtesy of <a href="http://www.judah.co.uk/">Gerry Judah</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/goodwood-festival-of-speed-featuring-135-foot-monument-to-audi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring 135-foot monument to Audi</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/goodwood-festival-of-speed-featuring-135-foot-monument-to-audi/">Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring 135-foot monument to Audi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:25:00 EST. And once again, we have a full calendar of events to keep our minds on the positive aspects of our industry. Show season is in full swing so you'll find plenty of concours events, cruise nights, and local shows filling July weekends. In America, Meadowbrook is the star of July, but there are also other interesting events like the GoodGuys Heartland Nationals, Hudson-Essex-Terraplane meet in Pontiac, New England Concours d'Elegance in Vermont, the First Annual Great American Car Show in Massachusetts, Micros on the Monument in Racine, International Bricklin Owners Club Annual Grand National Meet, and the Alfa Romeo Owners Club National Meet in Portland, among others.<br /><br />There's lots of racing in July, too. Most Formula 1 teams will make a brief stop at Goodwood before resuming their regular racing schedule at the N&uuml;rburgring, followed by the Hungarian GP at the end of the month. IndyCar hits Watkins Glen, the Streets of Toronto, and the airport course in Edmonton. NASCAR fans can look forward to races in Daytona, Chicago, and at the Brickyard. ALMS teams can take it easy after the marathon that was the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a two-hour stint at Lime Rock Park. <br /><br />There will also be plenty of other random racing action in July, with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/goodwood/">Goodwood Festival of Speed</a>, the Portland Historic Races, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman, and the New England Forest Rally. Green car fans can look forward to the Eco-Rally U.S.A. 2009, and bike fans can take in the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix or AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio.<br /><br />If none of those events appeals to you, check the Google Calendar <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/event-alert-july-calendar-of-automotive-events/">after the jump</a> for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. Please use the comments section to add or modify listings. Oh, and Happy 4th of July!<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/27/event-alert-june-calendar-of-automotive-events/"><br /></a><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/event-alert-july-calendar-of-automotive-events/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Event Alert: July Calendar of Automotive Events</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/event-alert-july-calendar-of-automotive-events/">Event Alert: July Calendar of Automotive Events</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 16:40:00 EST. <br />In a press release announcing the cars it would be taking to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jaguar's own Mike Cross has officially confirmed the coming of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/28/jaguar-to-make-a-roaring-lion-xkr-goodwood-special-mooted/">Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special</a>. We noted before that it would be louder and faster and detailed in satin graphite, but now we find out it will get a lower ride height over 21-inch wheels and - are you ready? - "a unique Lime Green paint scheme and XKR exterior graphic" as shown above. Alrighty, then.<br /><br />That hard-to-miss car will join a few more trailers of Jaguar goodies, including the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/12/detroit-2009-faster-pussycat-jaguar-xfr-pounces-on-bonneville/">225 mph Bonneville XFR</a>, a 1957 Long Nose D-Type, a Le Mans winning C-Type, and the one-of-a-kind Jaguar XJ13. Goodwood is just around the corner (July 3-5), and you can read all about Jaguar's plans in the press release after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Jaguar]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jaguar officially announces XKR Goodwood Special... in lime green</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/jaguar-officially-announces-xkr-goodwood-special-in-lime-gree/">Jaguar officially announces XKR Goodwood Special... in lime green</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 18:58:00 EST. Called, fittingly, the XKR Goodwood Special, it will get more power than the standard XKR's (shown above) 500 horses, and more audible snarl than the current exhaust emits. <br /><br />Because Jag is said to be reconsidering the car's brightwork treatment, the Goodwood Special will wear a satin graphite detailing package that could foreshadow a future running change (we know we could do without the metal surrounds on the car's front skirt nostrils). The car is still being finished so there's a good chance it won't be seen until just before the event, but we always look forward to a cat that scratches harder and roars louder.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=20178">Pistonheads</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/28/jaguar-to-make-a-roaring-lion-xkr-goodwood-special-mooted/">Jaguar to make a roaring lion? <br />When Infiniti decides to tackle a new market, it sure knows how to make an entrance. At the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March, the gas-electric hybrid <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-consider-the-show-stopped-infiniti-rolls-out-its-e/">Essence</a> made jaws drop with its commanding size, beautiful lines, and green-inspired 592-hp soul. Unfortunately for every man, woman and child on the face of the earth, the Essence <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/report-infiniti-wont-produce-show-car-but-its-essence-will-li/">won't make its way</a> to production -- ever -- but it's actually going to be driven in the UK... briefly.<br /><br />Infiniti's voluptuous concept will make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it'll make the run the hill climb and be joined at the FoS-TECH pavilion by the world's first right-hand-drive G37 convertible . While we're more than a little disappointed that the Essence will never hit production, if the concept's handsome design makes its way into other Infinitis, it'd be a good start. Press release below the fold.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/">Infiniti Essence Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/essence-1280s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Infiniti]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/27/infiniti-essence-concept-to-run-the-goodwood-hillclimb/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Infiniti Essence concept to run the Goodwood Hillclimb</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/27/infiniti-essence-concept-to-run-the-goodwood-hillclimb/">Infiniti Essence concept to run the Goodwood Hillclimb</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 27 Jun 2009 17:09:00 EST. At the latter facility they'll show you how to be the best racing driver. The former facility is to train you to become the fittest racing driver, with a team of instructors to assess and create driver-specific training regimes.<br /><br />Porsche wants to show just how good its instructors are by setting twelve of them on a treadmill during this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed and seeing how far they can run. The distance record for relay runners on treadmills over 48 hours is 495.76 miles -- that averages each person running more than 20 miles each day. If you tire of the on-track festivities and want to work off some pastries, there will be a second treadmill where you can pace yourself against them.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=151327">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/porsche-to-break-guiness-world-record-using-treadmills/">Porsche to break Guinness World Record using treadmills</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 08:01:00 EST. <br />Without catching anyone off guard, an exterior stylist for Rolls-Royce disclosed that the company is planning both coupe and convertible variants of its upcoming all-new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/04/hands-on-rolls-royce-ghost-is-100-roller-so-far/">Ghost</a> sedan. Andreas Thurner, responsible for penning the new four-door, told <em>Autocar</em> that, "...the Ghost was designed in a way to make other body styles... we have to build up a family for the Ghost just as we did for the Phantom." The coupe and cabriolet models have yet to receive any official go-ahead for production, but history is on their side.<br /><br />Rolls-Royce has confirmed that the new model will receive an "intelligent" four-corner air suspension that will read multiple sensor inputs and make individual load calculations every 2.5 milliseconds. It is reportedly so sensitive that it can detect where passengers are seated and when they move about within the cabin. In addition, the air suspension will raise or lower the vehicle by 25mm (a.k.a. "the lift and kneel" function) to compensate for squat and dive, improve ground clearance, and ease entry for the soon-to-be coddled passengers. Hand-build at the company's Goodwood plant in the U.K., production is set to start later this year.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/">Hands-On: Rolls-Royce Ghost</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/200extouch001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/200extouch002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/200extouch004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/200extouch003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hands-on-rolls-royce-silver-ghost/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/200extouch000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/Rollys-Royce-Ghost/240800/">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/no-surprise-rolls-royce-reportedly-planning-coupe-and-cabrio-ve/">No Surprise: Rolls-Royce reportedly planning coupe and cabrio versions of Ghost</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 13:58:00 EST. The love of motorsports starts at a young age for many racing fans, and countless enthusiasts owe their obsession to Hanna-Barbera's classic <em>Wacky Races</em> cartoons. The 60's-era animated series featured all manner of characters competing wheel to cartoon wheel in the most hilarious automotive concoctions ever rendered on celluloid. But what has remained for decades as the objects of childhood fantasy actually exist in real life and have taken to the streets of Chichester in West Sussex, England, ahead of their annual, real-life racing at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, held this year on July 3-5. Eleven vehicles in all have been painstakingly crafted for the event by the people at Goodwood - check 'em out in the gallery below along with some extra shots of them being run at last year's event. We've also got a video for you of their run last year <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/hanna-barberas-wacky-racers-take-to-the-street-ahead-of-goodwoo/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/">Wacky Races in West Sussex</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/wacky-races-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/wacky-races-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/wackyraces-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/wackyraces-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/wacky-races-in-west-sussex/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/wackyraces-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/06/wacky-race-cartoon-cars-come-to-life-in.html">CarScoop</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/hanna-barberas-wacky-racers-take-to-the-street-ahead-of-goodwoo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Racers take to the street ahead of Goodwood Festival of Speed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/hanna-barberas-wacky-racers-take-to-the-street-ahead-of-goodwoo/">Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Racers take to the street ahead of Goodwood Festival of Speed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 20:29:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Rolls-Royce 200EX Geneva debut - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Historically, Rolls-Royce has somewhat smugly declined to quote horsepower numbers, utilizing amusingly evasive language like "entirely sufficient" to describe its engines' power outputs. Perhaps a sign of the times, Rolls is now being a bit more forthcoming about details for its upcoming "baby" RR4 model, including approximate horsepower numbers.<br /><br />The company has disclosed that the RR4 will be powered by a new, 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine that gives "upwards of 500bhp." Further, it will route that prodigious output through a ZF transmission with no less than eight forward ratios. Despite its ability to generate big power figures, Rolls says that one important drivetrain figure will be smaller than any other Rolls on the market: C02 output.<br /><br />The news came from CEO Tom Purves himself at a New York press event for the 200EX, where the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/03/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-proves-that-downsizing-is-relativ/">Geneva concept car</a> is making its first stop on a world tour designed to get prospective clients in the car and booking orders for the production RR4 version. <br /><br />The BMW-owned British automaker has long been famous for its peerless interiors and isolated ride, but Purves promises that the RR4 will bring with it a new emphasis on driving entertainment: "... we have consciously engineered this car to be more involving and dynamic for those owners around the world that will wish to drive it themselves."<br /><br />While we don't expect Porsche Cayman-baiting dynamics, we look forward to seeing what the company views as more involved driving dynamics when the car starts rolling out the front doors of its Goodwood production facility. Official press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/">Geneva 2009: Rolls-Royce 200EX concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-rolls-royce-200ex-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-rolls-royce-200ex-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-rolls-royce-200ex-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04-rolls-royce-200ex-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-rolls-royce-200ex-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/05-rolls-royce-200ex-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Rolls-Royce]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/confirmed-rolls-royce-rr4-getting-500-hp-turbo-v12-8-speed-gea/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CONFIRMED: Rolls-Royce RR4 getting 500+HP turbo V12, 8-speed gearbox</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/confirmed-rolls-royce-rr4-getting-500-hp-turbo-v12-8-speed-gea/">CONFIRMED: Rolls-Royce RR4 getting 500+HP turbo V12, 8-speed gearbox</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 13:30:00 EST. Auto Shows</a></p><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/britishmotorshow.jpg" /><br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/british+international+motor+show/">British International Motor Show</a> appears to be in trouble. The biennial show, which has seen its fair share of big debuts and publicity in its past two outings, might skip 2010 and instead next appear on the calendar in 2011. The show's profitability, a lack of manufacturer participation, and a possible conflict with the 2012 London Olympics are to blame. The organization that runs the show is known as The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), and they've admitted that skipping a year and shifting the normally biennial show to 2011 is a possibility. The SMMT's committee will meet in March to discuss the matter and come up with some strategies to attract more of the major automakers.<br /><br />Last year's no-shows included Audi, BMW, Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen. Audi, for one, found it more effective to market themselves at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/14/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/">Goodwood Festival of Speed</a> instead. We have to admit that we were grateful for that decision, as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/917424/">Auto Union Type D</a>, Le Mans-winning R10, and Sport Quattro S1 among others were amazing. Things might be getting even worse for 2010. <em>Autocar</em> is reporting that several manufacturers have already pulled out of the 2010 show, and that several others are considering similar action. While we hate to see any show cancelled, even the largest auto shows are hurting in this economy. Perhaps taking an extra year to regroup isn't such a bad idea.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/237317/">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/28/british-motor-show-in-trouble-could-get-moved/">British Motor Show in trouble, could get moved</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 16:30:00 EST. </small> <br />The Earl of March has announced that the theme of the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS) will be "True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance." Think monumental drive and determination from motor racing legends like Jackie Stewart, who won the 1968 German Grand Prix with a broken wrist. That sort of thing. The Festival will take place July 3-5 and hopefully we'll be there to cover it for all of you. The 1.16-mile hillclimb is always a delight, with some of the most famous drivers in motorsports history driving the cars (and bikes) that made them household names. <br /><br />The 2009 FoS will also celebrate 100 years of Bugatti, Audi and Morgan, 60 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Motorcycle World Championship, 50 years of Mini and the Daytona Speedway, and the 40th anniversary of Jackie Stewart and Matra's dominant pairing. Like last year, festival attendees will also get to see another edition of the Cartier 'Style et Luxe' mini concours d'elegance, the BP Ultimate FoS-TECH technology pavilion, the Forest Rally Stage and the Junior Festival of Speed. We can't wait.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/">'08 Goodwood Festival of Speed: The highlights</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/08goodwoodfos-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Alfa Romeo 8Cs" title="Alfa Romeo 8Cs" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/08goodwoodfos-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Morgan Lifecar" title="Morgan Lifecar" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/08goodwoodfos-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Parajet Skycar" title="Parajet Skycar" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/08goodwoodfos-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Toyota iSwing" title="Toyota iSwing" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/08-goodwood-festival-of-speed-the-highlights/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/08goodwoodfos-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Vintage Dragster Display on Cricket Pitch" title="Vintage Dragster Display on Cricket Pitch" /></a></div><br /><strong><em><small>All photos copyright (C)2008 <a href="http://www.frank4cars.fotki.com/">Frank Filipponio</a>/Weblogs, Inc.</small></em><small><br /></small></strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/2009-goodwood-festival-of-speed-theme-true-grit-epic-feats-o/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed theme: 'True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/2009-goodwood-festival-of-speed-theme-true-grit-epic-feats-o/">2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed theme: 'True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 16:59:00 EST. The crop circles were found in the grass at the West Sussex circuit during final preparations for the Revival, which runs today through Sunday. The Goodwood Revival features vehicles from the 50s and 60s in a retro race, along with period dress and a variety of festivities.<br /><br />Several aircraft from many different decades have flown safely above the Goodwood course in past years, but in 2003 there was a <a href="http://www.ufoevidence.org/photographs/section/europe/Photo131.htm">reported UFO siting</a> at the race and the photographs of the sighting were the talk of the Internets after the alleged incident. We're pretty skeptical about the crop circles, so we're guessing the marketing types over at Goodwood wanted to get one more media push in advance of the 10th anniversary of a very cool weekend event. We would like to see the event in person, but short of little green men beaming us over there, we'll have to sit this one out.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080919.009/crop-circles-appear-at-goodwood-ahead-of-revival-meeting-uk">World Car Fans</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/19/crop-circles-appear-at-goodwood-before-race/">Crop circles appear at Goodwood before race</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 19 Sep 2008 17:31:00 EST.
