Word from Auto Express is that General Motors has given Vauxhall the go-ahead on a new coupe project based on the Epsilon II platform. That may mean that a similar model is headed to the land of the free under the Tri-Shield badge. After all, wherever Vauxhall goes these days, Buick is sure to follow. In the old country, the upcoming coupe is rumored to pack a 2.8-liter turbo V6 under its pretty little bonnet, though there's no telling what a Buick version would rely on for power. Auto Express reports that Vauxhall plans to offer varying levels of boost depending on trim.

All topped out, the two-door would offer a little over 320 horses at all four wheels, and engineers are said to be working on improving the vehicle's handling dynamics by shortening the chassis. Design wise, the newcomer will borrow heavily from the GTC concept, though we would expect to see the corporate waterfall grille on any American iteration. Across the pond, the coupe will reportedly carry the Calibra moniker. Here in the States, we'd be satisfied with a big GNX badge on the rear deck should this sucker come to life.
Buick Regal Coupe in the works? originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 13 May 2011 10:31:00 EST.
Vauxhall has beaten the speculating voices of the Internet to the Paris Motor Show punch by pulling the covers off of its GTC Concept well ahead of the main event. According to the company, what you see above is likely to have more than a little influence on the next Astra Sport Hatch. In classic concept style, the GTC rolls on epic 21-inch wheels that aren't likely to find their way to the production version of the car any time soon. That's not to say that this creation is pure fantasy, though.

For one thing, there's a direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine snugged under the hood, complete with a functioning start/stop system and a six-speed manual gearbox. That choice of powerplant seems a little too realistic to just be a show-circuit folly, so our guess is that the Astra Sport Hatch will likely boast similar hardware when it hits the road to take on cars like the Volkswagen Scirocco. Hit the jump for the full press release and check out the gallery for a closer look. Vauxhall will show off the GTC Concept in Paris starting on September 30, and we'll be on-hand to give you live shots and impressions of its reveal.
The Calibra was popular in Europe through most of the decade and formed the basis for Opel's DTM efforts in the early to mid '90s before fading into the sunset. In the last few years, Opel and Vauxhaul have offered the now discontinued RWD Holden Monaro coupe and now they are looking for a replacement, which may end up being a new Calibra.

Last March at the Geneva Motor Show, Opel showed off the GTC concept coupe that revealed the design direction for the next generation Vectra. The GTC proved to be so popular that Opel is now looking at adding a production version of the coupe to European dealerships. A range of four- and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines will provide efficiency and decent performance for the new Calibra, which may be on sale by the end of the decade.

[Source: AutoExpress]
The Opel Calibra could be reborn from the GTC concept originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 19:02:00 EST.
