9ff GT9-R - Click above for high-res image gallery

Bonkers is a relative term, when you think about it. Case in point: the 9ff GT9. With 973 horsepower and a 409 km/h top speed - that's 254 mph, friends - this was already one bonkers supercar. And then 9ff comes along with the GT9-R, an even faster version with - wait for it - 1120 horsepower and a claimed 414 km/h (257 mph) top speed. That's enough to outgun the 412 km/h (256 mph) record set by the SSC Ultimate Aero TT to claim the top-speed crown. That's right: pending outside verification at least, this is the world's fastest car. On the way, it'll hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.4 and 300 (186 mph) in 14.9. Right, bonkers.

Although - like 9ff's tuner cars - the GT9-R is loosely based on a Porsche 911, it only bears what could barely be described as a passing resemblance. Just about the entire thing is built from scratch, with a 4.0-liter boxer six all but completely rebuilt.

Only twenty examples of the range-topping GT9-R will be offered, although the *ahem* lesser versions with 750 or 987 horsepower are also available, each built to order to the customer's specifications. We're just afraid to ask how much many euros that entails, especially when the existing GT9 went for half a million. Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the gallery below.
Why, a thousand-horsepower count and a 250+ mph top speed with no roof, of course! That's what Bugatti has learned with its Veyron Grand Sport, and that's evidently what 9ff is planning as well.

9ff is one of the world's most alluring of Porsche tuning houses. They're responsible for the GT9-R, a supercar based on the 911 but capable of 0-60 times in the 2's and top speeds in excess of 250 mph which makes it a contender for the crown as fastest road-going car on the market. With only 20 examples slated for production and public consumption, it's also one of the most exclusive. But if the latest reports are to be believed, there's something even more exclusive and follicle-stimulating on the way.

The word is apparently sparked by the website which the Porsche uber-tuner set up specifically for the Emirates, a lucrative market for big-buck supercars. According to the brief statement and rendering on the site, 9ff will offer just three examples of the GT9-R without a roof. Of course, they'll probably cost more than most of us will see in our lifetimes, but that shouldn't stop them from selling all three.

Gallery: 9ff GT9

[Source: 9ff UAE via Pistonheads]
Porsche tuner 9ff planning GT9-R convertible originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 16:22:00 EST.
The German uber-tuners at 9ff have come to the conclusion that 253 mph just isn't fast enough, so work is currently underway on a hotter version of its GT9 supercar.

The "standard" GT3-based 9ff GT9 puts out 973 hp and 711 lb-ft of torque, but with a few tweaks to the ECU and a slight increase in boost pressure, the 4.2-liter flat-six will be putting out 1,120 hp and 774 lb-ft of twist. The chopped roof, lengthened body and widened haunches will carry over to the GT9R, but a new front fascia, splitter, wheel well extractors, brake cooling ducts, roof-mounted air scoop and wing will be added to the package. There's no word on what 9ff plans to do with the GT9R, but don't be surprised if it hits the circuit next year.

Gallery: 9ff GT9

[Source: 9ff via Supercars.net]
9ff working on hotter GT9R originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 19:28:00 EST.
After proving in May that its GT9 supercar could run with the world's fastest supercars by topping out at 409 km/h at the Papenburg oval, 9ff is offering a limited production run of twenty cars. Loosely based on a Porsche 911 GT3, each GT9 comes with a heavily modified twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six producing 973 horsepower and 711 lb-ft of torque. Other unique items include a chopped roof line, integrated tubular roll cage, six-speed sequential transmission, an adjustable suspension system, and special Continental Vmax tires good for 410 km/h. The price? The GT9 starts at €498,000. What's interesting is that the press release issued by 9ff declares the GT9 as the world's fastest road car, saying it "breaks the new Vmax world record for road-going vehicles", completely ignoring the SSC's two-way top speed run that averaged 255.83 mph, or 411.72 km/h. Yes, fast enough to beat the Veyron, but not quite enough to take the top spot.

There are only a handful of cars that can strike fear into the Bugatti Veyron. The Koenigsegg CCX comes close with a top speed of 242.42 mph, and the SSC Aero Twin-Turbo is even faster, hitting a two-way average speed of 255.83 mph and officially taking the crown of world's fastest car back in September. These über-fast supercars will now be looking over their shoulders with the new kid on the block, the 9ff GT9. Based on the Porsche 911 GT3, 9ff stretches the chassis about a foot and chops the roofline for improved aerodynamics. A carbon-kevlar subframe houses a twin-turbo 4.2-liter flat-6 pushing out 987 bhp. Our German is a bit rough, but we can translate enough of Autobild's recent story on the 9ff GT9 to know they achieved ridiculous speeds in the super Porsche at the Papenburg high speed oval in Germany. 409 km/h to be exact, which roughly translates to 253 mph. We're not sure if there is more speed left in the GT9 to top the Bugatti or the SSC, but it's impressive nonetheless.

Going fast can't be rushed. It sounds downright oxymoronic, but it might as well be the golden rule when it comes to breaking top speed records.

9ff is one of those outfits that bridges the gap between aftermarket tuning house and specialty manufacturer. Their latest project, dubbed GT9, has been a long time coming, and we've been eagerly awaiting the very special car's attempt at unseating the likes of the SSC Aero, Koenigsegg CCX and Bugatti Veyron from their respective places at the top of the speed-trial time sheets. 9ff has yet to take the GT9 to Nardo for its official run, but have in the meantime given us an appetizer to keep our mouths watering.

As you may recall, the GT9 starts with a Porsche 911 GT3, and goes to work on it like a Tarantino character with a razor blade and "Stuck in the Middle" playing on the radio. A new rear subframe is fitted from carbon-Kevlar, mounting the 987hp 4.2-liter twin-turbo flat-six in the middle instead of the rear, and stretching the custom body by 300 mm (about a foot) while chopping the sleek roofline by 120 mm.

The near-record-ready GT9 was on display at the Essen motor show when it was apparently revealed that the asking price has jumped from an anticipated €400k to nearly €600k. But with the Porsche Carrera GT long since out of production, 9ff shouldn't have any trouble selling the limited run of 20...so long as it meets its ambitious performance goals.
