<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/general+motors/">General Motors</a> is recalling around 38,000 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/pontiac/g8/">Pontiac G8</a> sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">NHTSA</a>, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. <em>The New York Times </em>indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/holden/">Holden</a>, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.<br />
<br />
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.<br />
<br />
With the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/pontiac/">Pontiac</a> division closed, other GM dealers will reprogram the sensor module of models covered under the recall at no cost to vehicle owners. GM says that no injuries have been reported as a result of this issue. <br />
When <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/general+motors/">General Motors</a> first announced it was sending <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/pontiac/">Pontiac</a> packing, our first thought was a pang for the loss of the most excellent <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gxp/">G8 GXP</a>, followed quickly by concern for <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/holden/">Holden</a>, the automaker's Australian subsidiary. After all, the General's Australian arm had done well by providing America with left-hand-drive versions of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/16/holden-reveals-special-edition-commodore-svz-ute-and-wagon/">Commodore</a> to sail under the Poncho flag. Turns out Holden is now feeling the loss of that deal in a big way. According to a report in <em>The Age</em>, the company just announced a loss of $192 million USD. Thanks to the American thirst for Australian V8s, Holden pulled in $5.3 billion in revenue in 2008, but just $3.6 billion last year.<br />
<br />
The pinch doesn't just fall on GM shoulders, though. Like the rest of the automaking world, Holden saw sales plummet due to a global recession last year. The loss of the Pontiac contract only added fuel to the fire. <br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>Chevrolet Lumina SS (Middle East edition) - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br /> If it's Monday, there must be a big, rear-wheel drive Chevrolet four-door coming soon. Tuesday? We'll retract and deny everything. We know, we know. We also know we just reported that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/report-lutz-says-next-chevy-impala-to-stay-front-drive-gain-hy/">the next Chevy Impala will remain front-wheel drive</a> - but check this out. We've been hearing rumors for some time now, that despite whatever <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/16/one-last-time-henderson-slams-door-on-pontiac-g8-revival/">Fritz Henderson has to say on the matter</a>, a high-performance version of General Motors' Zeta platform that underpins the Pontiac G8 will live on as a Chevy SS model, either badged as a Caprice or (more likely) an Impala. And we're not talking the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-chevrolet-caprice-police-car">police special</a>. As Maximum Bob has said, the G8 is "<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/gm-beginning-to-backpedal-on-lutz-g8-turning-caprice-comments/">Kinda too good to waste.</a>" Needless to say, we totally agree. <br /> <br /> An eagle-eye'd AB reader named Jim just caught the following on a <a href="http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?p=394000">Pontiac G8 forum</a>:<br /> <blockquote>
<div><em>"My dealer had sent off pictures to GM of the cable portion of the front seats belts rubbing against the plastic on the side of the front seats. In an email sent back to the dealer, GM says that they have no plans to solve what has already been built but going forward a correction is planned. The email continues: ...a fix is planned for MY11.5 Chevy Police Program and MY12 Chevy SS. The fix will involve a protective sleeve that covers the buckle and section of the buckle stem that rubs on the plastic trim."</em></div>
</blockquote> <br /> How 'bout them apples? That might normally be a sliver of a sliver of a rumor, but it exactly what what we've heard independently from a reliable source - and it brings a great big smile to our face. Now, repeat after us, LS3 with six-speed manual, LS3 with six-speed manual, LS3 with six-speed manual... <em>Thanks a million, Jim!</em><br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east">2009 Chevy Lumina SS (Middle East)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/2008chevyluminass02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/2008chevyluminass01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/2008chevyluminass03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/2008chevyluminass04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevy-lumina-ss-middle-east/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/12/2008chevyluminass05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?p=394000">G8 Board</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/rumormill-holden-based-rwd-2012-chevy-ss-coming-after-all/">Rumormill: Holden-based, RWD 2012 Chevy SS coming after all?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 15:32:00 EST. <br /> If you're looking to get your hands on a Pontiac before the General Motors division shuts its doors for good, you'd better act fast, because stocks are dangerously depleted.<br /> <br /> According to Pontiac's Twitter page, there are only some 3600 units left of some of the brand's most desirable products left at dealers across the United States. If the G8 sedan is what you fancy, there are only 570 GT trims left, and only 16 examples of the top-tier G8 GXP. We'll have to assume any remaining parts stock is <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/01/pontiac-g8-is-alive-and-well-in-australia-as-a-special-editi/">will remain in Australia</a>.<br /> <br /> The Solstice is similarly low on stock, with only 139 base coupes and 160 GXP coupes left on dealer lots. Pontiac also reports there are only 1500 G5s, 530 G6 GXPs and 350 Vibes left in stock. If that kind of announcement doesn't spur some sort of driving excitement among prospective Pontiac buyers, nothing will.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp">In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Pontiac via <a href="http://twitter.com/Pontiac/status/5622333440">Twitter</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/while-supplies-last-pontiac-says-only-16-g8-gxps-left-at-u-s-d/">While Supplies Last: Pontiac says only 16 G8 GXPs left at U.S. dealers (among other things)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 14:00:00 EST. <br />When General Motors' Bob Lutz talks, we listen. The reason, of course, is that he always gives us something good to write. Over the weekend, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/11/lutz-pontiac-g8-to-continue-as-chevy-caprice-in-u-s-z28-likel/">we told you</a> about an interview Lutz had with <em>Automobile Magazine</em> where the Maximum One said that the G8 will live on as a Chevrolet Caprice. Lutz's comments looked like a sure thing to us, as it's hard to misinterpret these words.<br /><blockquote><em>"The last time we looked at [the G8], we decided that we would continue to import it as a Chevrolet. It is kind of too good to waste." </em><br /></blockquote>Just a few days later, Blogger Bob sounded a bit less certain about the future of the G8 as Chevrolet. On the company's Fast Lane Blog, Lutz simply said "we're studying the feasibility of bringing (the G8) in as a Caprice for both law enforcement and the public." That doesn't sound nearly as certain as the <em>Automobile</em> interview. <br /><br />Kicking Tires reportedly received a similar statement from GM brass, saying "As part of its reinvention, General Motors is exploring every opportunity of effectively utilizing its global portfolio of vehicles, facilities and talent. While this exploration includes the possibility of extending imports of Holden vehicles (such as the recent Pontiac G8) to North America, no decision has been made at this time."<br /><br />We're hoping this is corporate speak for 'We're going to do what Bob says, but we just don't want to promise anything just yet.' Turning the G8 into a Chevrolet model looks to us like the cheapest possible way to keep a terrific vehicle available in the States, and with the Bowtie's significantly larger dealer network, maybe GM can finally figure out how to turn a profit with with the awesome Aussie.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market">2009 Chevrolet Caprice (Middle East)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/09_caprice-arabia_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/09_caprice-arabia_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/09_caprice-arabia_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/09_caprice-arabia_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-caprice-miiddle-east-market/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/09_caprice-arabia_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/0807_bob_lutz_pontiac_g8_chevy_caprice/index.html">Automobile Magazine</a>; <a href="http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/07/not-so-fast-gm-not-sold-on-pontiac-g8-as-a-chevy.html">Kicking Tires</a>; <a href="http://www.autoobserver.com/2009/07/gms-lutz-already-making-em-nuts.html">Auto Observer</a>]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/gm-beginning-to-backpedal-on-lutz-g8-turning-caprice-comments/">GM beginning to backpedal on Lutz' G8-turning-Caprice comments?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 13:29:00 EST. <br />General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson held a web chat with journalists earlier today over at the automaker's Fastlane Blog. (Full transcript available <a href="http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives/2009/06/media_webchat_fritz_henderson_to_answer_media_questions.html">here</a>.) Now, despite <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/08/pontiac-g8-could-live-on-sans-pontiac-but-dont-hold-your-br/">persistent rumors to the contrary</a>, it's been reported a few times over that GM has no intention of resurrecting the Aussie-built Pontiac G8 under a different division, even though variants of the G8's Holden Commodore source material are sold in foreign markets under both the Chevrolet and Buick nameplates. This is a lamentable course of action, to say the least, because the G8 is a really good car. In particular, the G8 GT and GXP models are downright excellent. Towards the end of the web proceedings, <em>AutoWeek</em>'s Greg Migliore went to the well one last time on behalf of enthusiasts everywhere, asking Henderson if the G8 has any future under one of the "new" GM's remaining brands. <br /><em><br />14:45 [Comment From Greg Migliore--AutoWeek]<br />Does the Pontiac G8 have any kind of future within General Motors as a re-badged model? What kinds of changes would need to be made to the car for it to be sold under another brand?<br /><br />14:45 Fritz Henderson: I am not a fan of rebadging.</em><br /><br />That's a terse, disappointing, answer - especially considering that of GM's four remaining divisions, GMC is made up almost exclusively of warmed-over Chevrolets. <br />General Motors may have already buried its Pontiac division, but the brand's recent passing isn't stopping a posthumous recall campaign by the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<br /><br />The action, which covers some 35,038 Pontiac G8 sedans from the 2008 and 2009 model years, stems from two potential issues: <br /><br />1) The brake pedal position switch may be incorrectly programmed, which NHTSA says could lead to the brake lamps operating in a constant state of illumination, leaving trailing motorists unable to tell whether the G8 driver ahead of them is stepping on the binders or not. The defective taillamps could therefore contribute to an accident.<br /><br />2) In another programming issue, certain G8s make have tire pressure monitoring systems loaded with incorrect values, which could result in the system failing to identify under-inflated tires, potentially leading to reduced handling abilities and/or tire failure.<br /><br />According to NHTSA, Pontiac dealers will reprogram the brake position sensor and the remote control door lock receiver to remedy both issues. G8 drivers can expect the recall to begin by June 5, and anxious owners can call GM at 1-800-620-7668 to learn more. <span style="font-style: italic;">Thanks for the tip, Peter!</span><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp">In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong><font size="1">Live photos copyright (C)2008 </font></strong><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><font size="1" color="#660066"><strong>Drew Phillips</strong></font></a><strong><font size="1"> / Weblogs, Inc.</font></strong><br />[Source: <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm?rcl_id=09V172&amp;searchtype=quicksearch&amp;summary=true&amp;refurl=email">NHTSA</a>]<br /><br /><br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/22/burying-the-dead-pontiac-g8-faces-recalls-over-faulty-taillamps/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Burying the Dead: Pontiac G8 faces recall over faulty taillamps, tire-pressure sensors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/22/burying-the-dead-pontiac-g8-faces-recalls-over-faulty-taillamps/">Burying the Dead: Pontiac G8 faces recall over faulty taillamps, tire-pressure sensors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 22 May 2009 17:58:00 EST. <br />There's a Looney Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny is in charge of Yosemite Sam's inheritance, and every time Yosemite Sam loses his temper at something Bugs has done, the rabbit subtracts money. By the time Yosemite gets his act together... he's out of money. Substitute GM for Yosemite Sam and the buying public for Bugs Bunny, throw in a little credit crisis, and all we can say is that it would be a shame if the Pontiac G8 GXP fell victim to this scenario: GM running out of money just when it gets its act together. Because we're here to tell you - and you can quote us on this - the Pontiac G8 GXP is @#$%&amp;*! Awesome.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp">In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/pontiacg8gxp_abg_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><font size="1">All photos copyright (C)2008 </font></strong><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><font size="1" color="#660066"><strong>Drew Phillips</strong></font></a><strong><font size="1"> / Weblogs, Inc.</font></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gxp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Review: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gxp/">Review: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 12:00:00 EST. <p>One of the best parts about SEMA is getting to see the manufacturers build cars they might not otherwise. Take this G8 GXP Street Concept, for example. Sure, the 415-horsepower 6.2L V8 in the standard G8 GXP is plenty good enough, but why not stuff the new LSX454 crate engine from GM Performance Parts underneath the hood? The 7.4L V8 is good for a ZR1-matching 638 horsepower and 600 lb-ft torque, allowing this G8 to unashamedly call itself a true muscle car. Other features include stiffer springs and the brake package from the CTS-V as well as 20-inch black chrome wheels. The exterior has been given an aggressive makeover with a new front fascia with unique upper and lower grilles and a rear fascia that incorporates a diffuser and performance exhaust system. Inside are custom leather seats and a new gauge cluster. More details and plenty of photos are soon to come when we hit the show floor next week. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jonathon!</em></p>

<div align="center"><strong><em><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />It looks like things will be getting a lot <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/08/pontiac-g8-gxp-officially-rated-at-415-hp/">less exciting</a> at Pontiac, as some reports indicate that the erstwhile performance brand will be losing its best performers. Despite the fact that the G8 sedan has seen nothing but <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/motor-trend-reveals-coty-contenders/">positive press</a> from the media, including your humble scribes <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/24/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/">here at Autoblog</a>, the realities of fuel economy and the global economy appear set to kill off the rear-wheel drive performance sedan in the prime of its short life. GM will reportedly not renew the G8 after its Holden-sourced chassis architecture is redesigned following a planned five-year run.<br /><br />The Pontiac <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/solstice/">Solstice</a> in both coupe and convertible forms is also unlikely to see a second generation. Unfortunately, the Solstice, Saturn Sky and their Opel spin-off don't generate enough sales to support <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/02/rumormill-gm-kills-the-kappa-ii-platform/">another go-round</a>, which could leave Pontiac with exactly zero vehicles with overtly sporting pretensions. While the G6 may be a decent car, it and a Cobalt derivative in the form of the G5 and a rebadged Aveo known as the G3 do not a BMW competitor make. What does this mean for the future of Pontiac as a brand? We'll see.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt">Review: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/00_pontiacg8_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/07_pontiacg8_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_pontiacg8_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_pontiacg8_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-pontiac-g8-gt/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_pontiacg8_garage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=134167">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/23/rwd-pontiac-g8-will-be-dead-in-five-years/">RWD Pontiac G8 will be dead in five years</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 09:58:00 EST. We, along with just about every other gearhead, are especially looking forward to the six-speed stick and clutch pedal with which the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 making 402 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque will be paired. Of course, the rest of the car needs to be up to snuff too, so we are happy to take a gander at these spy photos of a pre-production prototype in Australia that indicate the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/958548/">nineteen-inch GXP-specific wheels</a> and big Brembo disc brakes are present and accounted for. A slightly revised front fascia with a lower splitter combine with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/958542/">rear diffuser</a> to further signify that this is the high-zoot version of Pontiac's sport sedan.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp">Spy Shots: Pre-Production Pontiac G8 GXP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/00_preprog8gxp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/01_preprog8gxp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/02_preprog8gxp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/03_preprog8gxp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/04_preprog8gxp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=103639">LS1.com.au</a> via <a href="http://www.g8nation.com/2008/08/pre-production-pontiac-g8-gxp-spy-shots/">G8 Nation</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/04/pre-pro-pontiac-g8-gxp-spotted-in-australia/">Pre-pro Pontiac G8 GXP spotted in Australia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 15:32:00 EST. The resurgent Performance Division will flex its muscles at the Javits Center. Joining the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-p-o-n-t-ianda-c-gpontiac8-sport-truck/698573/">2010 G8 sport truck</a> (and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/07/new-york-08-preview-pontiac-solstice-targa-may-appear/">maybe another newcomer</a> sporting the Arrowhead badge) is the highly-anticipated Pontiac G8 GXP. <br /><br />The new Poncho flagship wears subtle visual tweaks including updated front and rear fascias plus the same 19" HSV wheels that were shown on the G8 concept. More importantly, the GXP packs GM's 6.2L LS3 V8 underhood. In this application (it's also in the Vette, where it makes even more power), the small-block punches out 402 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque rearward via a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox or a HydraMatic 6L80 auto. (Add another 2 pound-feet of twist if you opt for the latter.) A fully-adjustable suspension helps keep the muscle sedan planted to the tarmac, and stopping power comes from the gang at Brembo. Look for an upgraded interior with glitzier trim and well-bolstered leather sport seats. A Pontiac stand littered with V8s? It's sure been a while. Welcome back to the party, guys. Let the wanton tire destruction begin!<br /><br />We'll have plenty of live shots for you from the floor on Wednesday.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pon-hellothere-tiac-g8-gxp">2008 Pontiac G8 GXP</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pon-hellothere-tiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/pontiac-g8-gxp-1280-001a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pon-hellothere-tiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/pontiac-g8-gxp-1280-003a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pon-hellothere-tiac-g8-gxp/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/09_pontiac_g8gxp_reda_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: GM]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/15/new-york-08-preview-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp-packs-402-hp-and-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New York '08 Preview: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP packs 402 HP... and a third pedal!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/15/new-york-08-preview-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp-packs-402-hp-and-a/">New York '08 Preview: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP packs 402 HP... and a third pedal!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 15 Mar 2008 00:00:00 EST. While we patiently await the arrival of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/introducing-the-pontiac-g8/">Pontiac G8 GT</a>, in Australia, multiple high-performance flavors of the VE Commodore its based on are available <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/22/holden-hsv-e-series-lineup-unveiled/">from HSV</a>. In the UK, one of those cars, the HSV Clubsport R8, is offered as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/26/vauxhall-vxr8-to-prowl-uk-roads/">Vauxhall VXR8</a>. <br /><br />With 412 horsepower (417 PS) and 405 lb-ft of torque on tap, one would think that the rebadged HSV would be sufficiently awesome for our former colonial overlords. One would also be incorrect. Carscoop reports the Brits will be offered a <em>supercharger</em> option that elevates power to a staggering 540 horses and adds 30-percent more torque (figure a new rating of 526 lb-ft or so). The non-supercharged VXR8 does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, so you can expect the blown sedan to shave a few more tenths off that number while making expensive tires cry for their mothers. The cost of the kit is &pound;6,995.<br /><br />Please, General: Pontiac G8 GXP Supercharged, okay?<em><br /><br />[Source: Carscoop]<br /><br /></em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8">Vauxhall VXR8</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/vauxhall_vxr8_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/vauxhall_vxr8_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/vauxhall_vxr8_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/vauxhall_vxr8_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vauxhall-vxr8/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/09/vxr8_newhi001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><em /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/04/brits-get-supercharger-option-for-vauxhall-vxr8/">Brits get supercharger option for Vauxhall VXR8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 08:25:00 EST.
