<br /> The American Le Mans Series ran half of its annual flagship race this past weekend at a rain-saturated Road Atlanta track in Georgia. The race marked the first anniversary of the inauguration of the ALMS Green Challenge, and in spite of the truncated race length, organizers announced winners in both the prototype and GT categories and the winners all came from the Volkswagen Group. <br /> <br /> Among the prototypes, the No. 1 Audi R15 TDI led for more than four hours until shortly before the race was red flagged. However, the combination of the diesel's fuel efficiency and performance gave the Audi sufficient points to be declared the Michelin GreenX Challenge winner. Among the GT cars, several problems hurt the performance of the cellulosic E85-fueled Chevrolet Corvettes. Thus, the Flying Lizard team's Porsche 911s had the best combination of carbon footprint and performance. With only one race remaining at Laguna Seca, the Porsches look like strong contenders to win the season-long Green Challenge championship. Galleries below, official press releases after the jump.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/">Audi R15 TDI at Petit Le Mans 2009</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/audi_motorsport-090926-2274_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/audi_motorsport-090926-2252_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/audi_motorsport-090926-2294_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/audi_motorsport-090926-2306_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/audi-r15-tdi-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/audi_motorsport-090926-2304_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/">Flying Lizard Porsche at Petit Le Mans 2009</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/m09_2590_fine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/m09_2597_fine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/m09_2581_fine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/m09_2595_fine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-at-petit-le-mans-2009/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/green.autoblog.com/media/2009/09/m09_2578_fine_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Sources: Audi, Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/audi-and-porsche-win-michelin-greenx-challenge-at-petit-le-mans/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi and Porsche win Michelin GreenX Challenge at Petit Le Mans</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/28/audi-and-porsche-win-michelin-greenx-challenge-at-petit-le-mans/">Audi and Porsche win Michelin GreenX Challenge at Petit Le Mans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 18:58:00 EST. The final lap of the 12 Hours of Sebring has been posted on YouTube (thanks to commenter Devin Sylvester for sending the link). If you read <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/18/12-hours-of-sebring-ends-with-audi-win-nail-biting-gt2-finish/" style="font-weight: bold;">our recap</a> over the weekend, you already have an idea of how it went down. Now you can follow the jump to watch the unbelievably exciting last-lap GT2 showdown between Flying Lizard's Jorg Bergmeister, driving one of the team's new Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs, and Risi Competizione's Jaime Melo in his team's Ferrari 430GT. The video starts as the final lap begins, with Bergmeister trailing Melo byjust half a second after twelve full hours of racing. Both cars were equipped with on-board cameras, so the coverage is simply fantastic. We can watch this all day and never get bored. <br /><br />[Source: YouTube]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/19/video-the-gt2-finish-at-sebring/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: The GT2 finish at Sebring</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/19/video-the-gt2-finish-at-sebring/">VIDEO: The GT2 finish at Sebring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 12:26:00 EST. Before we get to <em>the</em> story of the race -- the jaw-dropping GT2 finish -- we need to fill you in on the rest of the action. Audi, as expected, took the overall win as Marco Werner drove the #2 car across the finish line, giving Audi its 8th consecutive win at the event. Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela were the co drivers on the winning machine. The defending champion #1 Audi, which was essentilly rebuilt following a practice crash Thursday night finished fourth overall with Tom Kristensen, Dindo Capello, Allan MacNish, and Le Mans god Tom Kristensen behind the wheel. <br /><br />In P2, Acura made a smashing debut, taking the first two spots in the class and second and third place overall. The Andretti Green Racing team of bryan Herta, Dario Franchitti, and Tony Kanaan took the class win (2nd overall) in their Acura ARX-01a. They were followed by the Fernandez Racing Acura (3rd overall), with the #7 Penske Porsche taking the final P2 podium spot and fifth place overall.<br /><br />GT1, as expected, was an all-Corvette affair, with the #4 car piloted by Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, and Max Papis edging its sister, the striking white #3 car helmed by Ron Fellows (in whose honor the car wore its new finish), Johnny O'Connell, and Jan Magnussen. 17 seconds separated the two 'Vette C6.Rs.<br /><br />That leaves the epic GT2 finish, which we'll detail for you after the jump. <br /><br />[Sources: ALMS, Motorsport.com]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/18/12-hours-of-sebring-ends-with-audi-win-nail-biting-gt2-finish/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>12 Hours of Sebring ends with Audi win, nail-biting GT2 finish</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/18/12-hours-of-sebring-ends-with-audi-win-nail-biting-gt2-finish/">12 Hours of Sebring ends with Audi win, nail-biting GT2 finish</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 18 Mar 2007 07:19:00 EST. His helmet art adorns the brain buckets of drivers in every form of motorsports, from NASCAR to Motocross. He's also been associated with Hot Wheels and SEMA specials, among other things. Now he can add the ALMS Flying Lizard team to his resume. Along with the pair of American Le Mans GT1 racers, Lee has also designed a line of Lizard Gear that should be available later this year. The team will make its public debut as the ALMS season kicks off at Sebring this weekend. Lee's new graphics for the Porsche GT3 RSRs are pictured here and in a high-res gallery available by clicking below. The team's full press release can also be found after the jump.<br /><br />[Source: Flying Lizard via <a href="http://news.windingroad.com/marketingadvertising/artist-troy-lee-partners-with-flying-lizard-alms-team/#more-7468">Winding Road</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/">Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSRS ALMS racer</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/fl-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/fl-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/fl-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/fl-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/flying-lizard-porsche-911-gt3-rsrs-alms-racer/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/03/fl-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/12/troy-lee-and-flying-lizard-add-some-art-to-alms/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Troy Lee and Flying Lizard add some art to ALMS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/12/troy-lee-and-flying-lizard-add-some-art-to-alms/">Troy Lee and Flying Lizard add some art to ALMS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2007 16:02:00 EST.
