Want fries with that? Place your order at any fast-food hamburger chain and you can expect to get that question. But for a more sizable purchase - say, a Ferrari - deep-fried potatoes aren't going to cut it. That's where Vertu comes along. The premium mobile phone maker owned by Nokia has already established itself among premium sportscar buyers with a number of special editions of their automotive-inspired Ascent range, including their Racetrack Legends series, and with Ferrari enthusiasts specifically with the special Ferrari Challenge edition. That was followed by the Vertu Ascent Ferrari 60, celebrating the company's 60th anniversary, an additional Ferrari 1947 edition, and has now been supplanted by the new Ferrari Ascent Ti.

While the previous versions were based on the aging Ascent, the new Ferrari model starts life as the newly updated Ascent Ti, which features both quad-band GSM and WCDMA radios for use around the world, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, 3MP auto-focus flash camera and four gigs of storage, all encased in a titanium chassis with a sapphire crystal display and stainless-steel keys. The Ferrari edition further upgrades the package with PVD coating and a battery cover styled after a Ferrari's hood, complete with three-dimensional Prancing Horse logo. Each of the three editions - in Nero (black), Rosso (red) and Giallo (yellow) - will only be produced in limited numbers, so don't be surprised to see some dealers charging a considerable premium for the ultimate side-order to serve alongside a tasty Ferrari road car. Thanks for the tip, JW!

This is called the "F1 Phone," coming at you in bright-red injection-molded plastic direct from non-Ferrari manufacturing China. Like the Italian exotic, the F1 Phone offers a lot of performance with its dual-band support, a 2.2-inch touch-sensitive LCD display, music player, video player, memory expansion slot, USB connectivity, flashlight, and a slew of other electronic goodies (including three pre-installed games, though not a single one involving driving). Unlike the Italian exotic, this one sports a price tag of just $190, allowing you to save the other $185,000 for your text messaging bill. In case you were wondering, that bulls-eye smack in the middle of the windshield is the built-in 1.3 megapixel camera - you won't find one of those on any showroom Scuderia!

A gated shifter. On a mobile phone. Not only that, but the box holding the high-priced handset even includes a valve from a Ferrari Formula One car. This is certainly the phone for the Ferrari fan with the problem spending money on the overpriced, outdated electronics.

As far as we can tell, at its very basics, the Vertu Ascenti Ferrari 60 is your everyday mobile phone. Despite being made of titanium, covered in Ferrari leather and held together with screws identical to those used by the Italian carmaker, it's still nothing more than a mobile device for calling your mom. Yes, true, at the price Vertu probably wants for this thing, you're calling your mom from one of your two Enzos, but, still, it's a freakin' phone that can't even download songs at Starbucks.

And why the phone has a shifter is a complete mystery.

We can't immediately determine how many thousands of dollars you'll pay for the privilege of owning one of the 60 Ferrari 60 phones available, but you can bet it will be way more than anything available at your local T-Mobile shop. However, owners of the Ferrari 60 phone will enjoy not only a single F1 valve, but also Vertu's service package that checks out the phone for free every six months including replacing the leather.

[Source: Sybarites]
Ferrari's latest Vertu phone features gated shifter originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 18:33:00 EST. Introducing Motorola's MotoRAZR Maxx V6 Ferrari Challenge. With a V6, wouldn't that make it a Dino? No matter, because it does have 'the iconic prancing horse shield on the front and "Ferrari" in the company's easily recognizable font on the back. The phone turns on with the sound of a Ferrari Formula 1 engine revving.

It's available for pre-order from the Ferrari Store online for a mere $524 -- about the same price as the upcoming iPhone, but oh so much more, um, Italian. And it's about $1,200 cheaper than that Lamborghini phone which doesn't come with a red Ferrari leather case.

Read the Motorola press release with the phone's full specs and more photos after the jump.

[Source:Motorola]
Continue reading Ferrari takes on Lamborghini in mobile phone battle

Ferrari takes on Lamborghini in mobile phone battle originally appeared on Autoblog on Sun, 28 Jan 2007 15:23:00 EST.
