We reported earlier today that a rare Ferrari Enzo went off course yesterday while running the 2011 Targa Newfoundland and wound up swimming with the fishes in the Atlantic. We even had a video showing what happened leading up to the Ferrari's off-road and then underwater excursion. We didn't, however, have many pictures, but Autoblog reader Renee had a father on the scene who took these pictures for us of what happened immediately after.

When a car takes a dive like that, you've got to fish it out. That's exactly what was done with the Enzo, first using a Jeep Grand Cherokee to pull it onto shore and then switching to a big crane to lift it up and onto a flat bed truck. Surprisingly, perhaps shockingly so, there's no real visible damage to the Enzo. Maybe it's the bright black-and-yellow paint scheme throwing off our eyes, but we don't see any damaged bodywork in these images. That said, we're sure the Enzo is hurting on the inside, both its mechanicals that generally don't like being dipped in salt water and the interior that prefers Armor All to the Atlantic Ocean.

Check out the pics for yourself to see the sad state of affairs, and we've reposted the video for you after the jump.
Continue reading How to fish a Ferrari Enzo out of the ocean

How to fish a Ferrari Enzo out of the ocean originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 16 Sep 2011 19:15:00 EST. He was the mystery German man Stefan Eriksson first said was driving that Ferrari Enzo last year when it crashed. After Eriksson admitted to being the driver, Eriksson said he must have fabricated Dietrich due to the blackout he suffered after the crash.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officers never doubted the existence of Dietrich, however, and after a 17-month search, they say the mystery German is in custody. Except he's not German, and officials say he was a passenger, not the driver.

L.A. sheriff's office says Trevor Michael Karney is charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest, giving false information to a police officer and, could face federal immigration charges. By the way, the DUI is not connected to the Enzo crash, nor are the resisting arrest or false information charges. The immigration violation could be. Karney disappeared after the Enzo crash and, according to investigators, has been laying low in Ireland until recently sneaking back into the U.S. across the Mexican border.

Sources say Karney was videotaping Eriksson's 162 mph run down PCH before that telephone pole jumped into their lane. Trust us, we have all available manpower scouring YouTube for that video.

[Source: Los Angeles Times]
Enzogate update: Dietrich may exist after all originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 11 Aug 2007 19:23:00 EST. As was the case in the Stefan Erickson crash, Kerimov's Enzo also split in two, keeping the passenger compartment intact. According to Kommersant, the female passenger was not severely injured. (Thanks to commenter Chris for the link.)

Yesterday, Suleiman Kerimov a billionaire Russian State Duma Deputy, crashed his black Ferrari Enzo into a tree in Nice, on the French Riviera. The car subsequently caught fire, severely burning Kerimov. His passenger, an unidentified female companion, was also injured in the crash but the extent of her injuries was not reported. Kerimov is currently hospitalized in Marseilles, where he was airlifted to after medical personnel in Nice stabilized him.

Hospital officials are not commenting on Kerimov's chances for survival. The politician is a member of Russia's Liberal Democratic Party and is said to be worth over 7 billion dollars. This is the latest in a series of Ferrari Enzo wrecks over the last year, the most high-profile of which was Stefan Erickson's crash in Malibu this past February which his car split in half.

[Sources: Bloomberg via The Moscow Times, ITAR-TASS]

Related Items
Superior Court today. The charge he was addressing however, was not grand theft, embezzlement or the firearms possession charges he still faces, but rather the drunk driving charge that was part of the list of offenses he was cited for after his Malibu crash of a Ferrari Enzo. "We want to fight the battle where the battle is. It makes no sense to chase windmills and waste the jury's time and the court's time," said attorney James Parkman.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg will sentence Eriksson for the drunk driving offense at the conclusion of his trial, which begins next week. Bo Stefan Eriksson, in case you've been under a rock, is the man who allegedly split an Enzo in half while taking it for an early morning top speed run down PCH in February. Because of Eriksson's (nine!) criminal convictions in Sweden for forgery, counterfeiting, narcotics and firearms offenses, he cannot legally possess a gun, which is why he also faces a weapons charge for a handgun that police found at his Bel-Air house.

[Source: L.A.
