<p>The Chrysler Pacifica Advance Design Center, first opened in 1983, is credited with penning the Plymouth Prowler concept (<em>pictured above</em>), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/12/07/more-details-on-dodge-challenger-concept/">Dodge Challenger concept</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/03/detroit-news-automotive-consumer-panel-disses-the-compass/">Jeep Compass</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2005/08/10/dodge-intrepid-and-stratus-most-stolen-2003-cars/">Dodge Intrepid</a> concepts. Unfortunately, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/07/chrysler-closing-west-coast-design-center/">Design Center closed earlier this year</a> as Chrysler streamlined operations. Now, Mercedes-Benz will bring it back to life as they move their design studio from its current 13,000 square foot location in Irvine, to the larger 35,000 square foot former Chrysler location in Carlsbad, California. While both parties have confirmed the pending sale, terms and move-in dates have not been released.</p>

Word is that Chrysler will promote Challenger all summer to create buzz (that won't be hard) and drive traffic into its showrooms. This announcement comes the same weekend that the automaker is revealing a new ad campaign and fresh discounts for customers. <br /><br />The Detroit news reports that the car should be in production by 2008, with a price slightly above that of the current Mustang. Only a V8 will be offered.<br /><br />The Challenger Concept <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/08/detroit-auto-show-dodge-challenger-concept-debut/">made its debut</a> at this year's Detroit show, and is powered by a 6.1L 425-horsepower HEMI V8.<br /><br />Mopar fans, your wish has been granted. Now, let's see if GM holds up its part of the deal and greenlights the Camaro (the pressure to do so will be huge now with the Challenger announcement). As things stand, it looks like the ponycar wars are quickly moving from the show floor to the showroom.<br /><br />Let the stoplight showdowns begin! <br /><br />[Source: Detroit News]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/30/dodge-challenger-approved-for-production/">Dodge Challenger approved for production!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 30 Jun 2006 10:39:00 EST. He and I talk about the event and some interesting autos that showed up to compete in Brock's baby. We also reveal the deal on Jason Vines taking issue with us (i.e. me) questioning his moves as a PR man in a post that went live yesterday. You can check out that post <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/16/dodge-insists-challenger-does-not-yet-have-green-light/">here</a> for some background. Finally, we give our take on a proposal in Texas to up the speed limit to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/16/south-texas-considering-80-mph-speed-limit/">80 mph</a> in some areas, and say our piece&nbsp;on the soon-to-be-departed Hummer H1 that General Motors has announced will be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/13/hummer-h1-retires-from-duty-next-month/">cancelled next month</a>.<br /><br />Get the podcast<br />[<a href="http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/podcasts/auto20060516_0031.mp3">MP3</a>] Listen to the show now.<br />[<a href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=73331469&amp;s=">iTunes</a>] Subscribe to the podcast directly in iTunes.<br />[<a href="http://podcasts.autoblog.com/rss.xml">RSS</a>] Add the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.<br />[<a href="http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=1708">Vote</a>] Vote for us in Podcast Alley!<br /><br />Hosts<br />John Neff and Chris Paukert<br /><br />Producer<br />John Neff<br /><br />Length<br />37:09<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/05/17/autoblog-podcast-31/">Autoblog Podcast #31</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 May 2006 17:02:00 EST.
