19Jay Leno is far beyond driven in his 1971 Pantera

Perhaps it's fitting that the band Pantera is known for its heavy metal music, because the DeTomaso Pantera is the automotive equivalent of a metal album. It's short, aggressive and makes a mean sound. It doesn't mess around either, with a Ford 351-cubic-inch (5.75-liter) V8 sending mountains of torque to the rear wheels. This week, Jay Leno takes us on a detailed tour of his '71 to show why it rocks.

19eBay Find of the Day: Well-done Detomaso Pantera GT5-S custom

Back when it wasn't so easy for a visionary gent to build his own supercar (but the results were just as mixed as today), Alejandro DeTomaso managed to maintain production of the DeTomaso Pantera for 20 years – and that was his third car. This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera GT5-S 'Prototipo' one-off

17ADRNLN has Pantera bones with Nike skunkworks know-how [UPDATE]

ADRNLN, the car pictured in the rendering above, is based on a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera that had seen better days. But in its transformation to its soon-to-be-revealed second act, Ringbrothers, a custom car shop and parts maker, and Nike's innovation skunkworks team have given the De Tomaso a new lease on life. It's going to be a vibrant life, too, courtesy of a 600-horsepower Chevy LS3 V8 swap - Ford V8s powered stock Pantera models - but we're not going to complain about the car's Bowtie engine

8De Tomaso chairman arrested amidst accusations of misappropriated funds

Gian Mario Rossignolo, the chairman of De Tomaso, has been arrested under suspicion of misusing $9.2 million in public funds, according to Reuters. Rossignolo was taken into custody alongside both the company's head of human resources and a financial intermediary as part of the probe. The executive's lawyers weren't immediately available for comment, though police say De Tomaso may have used a false bank guarantee in order to receive money from the European Union. Those funds may have wound up i

18De Tomaso files for bankruptcy

Another small automaker is heading to bankruptcy court in less than a week with the report that De Tomaso has run out of cash and credit. When Artega filed for bankruptcy last week, we felt a bit of a twinge since the German firm has a cool little sports car that just never really got going. And although we're not happy about De Tomaso name plowing into that financial brick wall again, perhaps this time terminally, if it means the end of the ungainliness that was the Deauville resurrection seen

23De Tomaso to unveil new Pantera at Frankfurt

Let us tell you how this works, De Tomaso: First you give us the supercar, then you dilute the brand with crossovers and city cars and such. Got it? Just ask Porsche or Aston Martin. Oh never mind – we'll just take the sportscar now.

26De Tomaso revival effort shown ahead of Geneva

Behold, the De Tomaso SLC Concept in all of its, um, glory. If you're like us, this probably wasn't the first thing that leapt to mind when you heard that De Tomaso was being resurrected (again) from the ashes of bankruptcy for a triumphant return to the world stage. The company says that the SLC is a luxury sports crossover.

17De Tomaso unveils a new logo for a new future

For those who may not have noticed, Italy is ready to get a new automaker... back. The name's De Tomaso, and if you're up on your car history, you'll recognize it as the father of classics such as the Pantera and Mangusta. But after lying dormant for decades, the company has been rescued by Italian automotive industrialist Gian Mario Rossignolo. Under his direction, De Tomaso is expected to launch a new lineup. It's the dawn of a new era for the brand, and it has launched a new logo for its brig

7Report: De Tomaso planning Mini rival?

Between the Fiat 500 and the Alfa MiTo (to say nothing of the Lancia Ypsilon), Italy's got plenty of Mini rivals on the road. But it could gain another, if emerging reports prove accurate in the long run.

13Going once, going twice.....going...anyone? DeTomaso fails to sell at auction

Italian-Argentine exotic car manufacturer DeTomaso has been in liquidation since 2004, and yesterday, the entire brand was once again on the auction block – in this case, the writing desk of Monica Rossi in Modena – for a starting bid of €1.6 million (nearly $2.3 million USD). While that's a bargain basement deal for an established nameplate with credibility, even with unfavorable dollar/euro exchange rates, no buyers were smitten enough to bite.

5On the block: De Tomaso, all of it

Hey buddy, wanna buy a De Tomaso? Have we got a deal for you. You don't want to settle for just one De Tomaso, so not buy the whole De Tomaso enterprise? On June 28, the De Tomaso name and car operation will go across the auction block giving devotees of the Argentine-Italian marque a shot at attaining their dream. Four years ago De Tomaso pulled the plug after its Mangusta project failed to gain traction and relaunch the company. That was around the same time that company founder Alejandro de T
