<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/">Porsche</a> is issuing a recall of 20,278 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayenne/">Cayenne</a> SUVs from the 2011- and 2012 model years including the base model as well as the S, Hybrid and Turbo. The vehicles in question, produced from March 8, 2010 up to January of this year, may have been fitted with faulty headlight locking assemblies. In case of assembly failure, the headlights could detach from the fenders - something that might be dramatically inconvenient if you're driving at night on a dark, winding road, say.<br />
<br />
Porsche is sending notices to owners and dealers will fix the issue free of charge. There's an official press notice from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> <a href="/2012/02/24/porsche-recalls-2011-2012-cayenne-suvs-over-headlight-issue/#continued">after the jump</a> with a little more info.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/27/porsche-recalls-2011-2012-cayenne-suvs-over-headlight-issue/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche recalls 2011-2012 Cayenne SUVs over headlight issue</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/27/porsche-recalls-2011-2012-cayenne-suvs-over-headlight-issue/">Porsche recalls 2011-2012 Cayenne SUVs over headlight issue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 27 Feb 2012 10:31:00 EST. <br />
<em><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/motor+trend">Motor Trend</a></em> has announced its pick for Sport/Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the honor has fallen on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/porsche/cayenne">2011 Porsche Cayenne</a>. The fact that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche/">Porsche</a> has received the award is not necessarily a surprise, it's how the award was announced. M/T decided to eschew the standard required wait time for readers to find out via its monthly magazine. The announcement was made at 12:01am via <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/14/motor-trend-getting-ready-to-announce-its-2011-sport-util/">social media juggernaut, Facebook</a> and they've since followed up the Facebook notification with a proper <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/suv/1012_2011_motor_trend_sport_utility_of_the_year_porsche_cayenne/index.html">article on its website</a>.<br />
<br />
According to Angus MacKenzie, Editor-In-Chief, the Porsche Cayenne was top notch across the criteria board. M/T uses six key points to evaluate its contenders; Advancement in Design, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, Value and Performance of Intended Function.<br />
<blockquote>
<div><em>"With strong showings in the engineering and efficiency areas, an attractive exterior, a thoughtful interior design, a full roster of active and passive safety gear and a high value rating on its opening price, the Cayenne was quite obviously the winner. The fact that the Cayenne's driving experience eclipsed that of every other contender, was just a bonus." </em></div>

Lessons were learned, and so for the 2008 running of the Transsyberia, Porsche is offering the teams who bought the trucks last year a conversion package that features a number of upgrades. These include a new sump guard, a beefier tire package, tweaked air suspension, a shorter final drive ratio (same as the new Cayenne GTS), plus updates to the transmission programming, dynamic chassis control and traction management systems. Driving from Moscow to Mongolia is no picnic, and these upgrades should make the already-robust Cayenne S Transsyberia even better-suited to handle the rough-and-tumble 4,400-mile course. You can check out the full specs after the jump, and see <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/15/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-factory-built-rally-goodness/">last year's post</a> on the truck's unveiling for a peek at many of the other modifications that came as part of the standard package.<br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade">2008 Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia Upgrade</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_cay_trannsy_1280_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_cay_trannsy_1280_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_cay_trannsy_1280_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_cay_trannsy_1280_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-upgrade/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/08_cay_trannsy_1280_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/04/porsche-updates-cayenne-s-transsyberia-for-08-rally/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche updates Cayenne S Transsyberia for '08 rally</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/04/porsche-updates-cayenne-s-transsyberia-for-08-rally/">Porsche updates Cayenne S Transsyberia for '08 rally</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 14:56:00 EST. <p>Rod Millen has another trophy for the cabinet. Along with co-driver Richard Kelsey, he took first in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/22/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-drivers-get-their-rides-dirty/">Rally Transsyberia</a> which ran the 7,100 kilometers from Moscow, Russia to Ulan Bataar, Mongolia. As Team North America 2, they were driving one of 26 special <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/15/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-factory-built-rally-goodness/">Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia</a> rally cars, which were factory-prepared with many of the mods privateers fitted to the SUV that won last year's edition.</p>

The Cayenne S Transsyberia benefits from Porsche Traction Management with a transverse lock, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control with a Special Offroad Mode, Porsche Active Suspension Management, and a snorkel. Millen called it the greatest challenge of his motorsports career. Porsche took the top three places, and six of the top ten.</p>

The interior from row two back was gutted and reconfigured to accept a stretcher, accommodate an emergency doctor, and store all the associated equipment, such as an EKG, defibrillator, etc. Four trucks have been ordered, and Porsche will place them at each of its plants and at the test track in Weissach. All the Cayenne running gear is unchanged, and performance and off-road capability are generally unaffected. Spurred on by the success shown by those two cars, Porsche has built a small production run of at least twenty-six 2007 Cayenne S Transsyberia SUVs, all of which will compete in the 2007 rally. The full range of Porsche's techno-enhancements are in place, including Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDDC), and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The PTM system is further enhanced by a transverse lock from the optional Offroad Technology Package available to regular customers, and the PDCC system is already set up with a Special Offroad Mode, which, when active, lets the Cayenne ford bodies of water up to 30" deep. A roof-mounted snorkel keeps that water from invading the intake manifold. <br /><br />Thanks to Tom L. for the tip!<br /><br />[Source: Porsche]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia">Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayennes_transsyberia003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayennes_transsyberia002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayennes_transsyberia001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/cayennes_transsyberia004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/cay_transsyb_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/15/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-factory-built-rally-goodness/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia: factory-built rally machine</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/15/porsche-cayenne-s-transsyberia-factory-built-rally-goodness/">Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia: factory-built rally machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 15 Apr 2007 17:28:00 EST. Moving up into the range, the new triangular headlamps remain on the Turbo model, but the turn signals go horizontal, ala Cayman and Turbo, the air intakes open wider and a duo of "power streaks" flank the hood on both edges.<br /><br />The rear of the new Cayenne gets a subtly smoothed-over bumper with pass-thrus for the exhaust tips and new taillights, both of which are less than noteworthy.<br /><br />The major changes come in the form of three new engines that will provide the proper amount of motivation for Porsche's big, ugly duckling. The old 3.2-liter V6 has been nixed in favor of the 3.6-liter V6 found in the new Touareg, producing 290 HP in the base model. The Cayenne S gets a 4.8-liter V8, up from 4.5-liters in the outgoing model, to produce 380 HP and 370 ft.-lbs. of torque. At the high end of the range, the new Cayenne Turbo receives a power boost to 500 HP and 516 ft.-lbs. of twist, likely to dispatch the 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, then continuing to a top speed of 171 MPH.<br /><br />(Gallery, press release after the jump)<br /><br />[Source: Porsche]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/04/2008-porsche-cayenne-unveiled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2008 Porsche Cayenne unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/04/2008-porsche-cayenne-unveiled/">2008 Porsche Cayenne unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 04 Dec 2006 06:50:00 EST. The info we already know hasn't changed much. The car will be a 950-bhp, street-legal version of Porsche's future Le Mans racer and use the Carrera GT's carbon fiber frame with a new nose and tail. The GT1's top speed will be 254 mph, 2 mph more than the Veyron.<br /><br />Autocar's drawing is said to be inspired from leaked technical drawings, so this is more than an artist's best guess. The magazine also claims that Porsche has already begun testing 950-bhp engines, despite not knowing whether the GT1's powerplant will be a turbocharged version of the Carrera GT's V10 or a bored-out, twin-turbo version of the Cayenne S's V8. Regardless of which engine is chosen, the GT1 holds the promise of stealing the top podium spot away from the Bugatti Veyron.<br /><br />[Source: Speed TV via <a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2006/07/porsche-more-news-about-gt1-supercar.html">GermanCarBlog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/09/porsche-gt1-development-details/">Porsche GT1 development details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 09 Jul 2006 10:09:00 EST. For North American consumption only, the model features various bits of titanium-toned trim, along with many of the most popular options as standard-fit-all at a decidedly <em>un</em>Porsche-like 10 percent off.<br /><br />Available in two exclusive new colors ('Pure Red and 'Iceland Silver Metallic'), along with black and blue, the new model also receives titanium effect mirrors, front air intakes, door handles, rear roof spoiler, and so on.<br /><br />Starting at $64,900 for Yankees and $89,800 for Great White Northerners, the model hits showrooms in mid-July, complete with 'smart' xenon headlamps, navigation, and moonroof.<br /><br />[Source: Porsche via BusinessWire]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/15/porsche-goes-titanium-for-n-a-only-cayenne-model/">Porsche goes titanium for N.A.-only Cayenne model</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 15 Jun 2006 09:01:00 EST.
