Two days last week, Autoblog got to spend time with the Hugger Orange hued Camaro Convertible Concept that GM brought out to California, along with a few of its designers. In case you didn't realize it already, the car is stunning. GM Designer Tom Peters, though, was looking for a special, brutal kind of stunning: the brief for the Camaro Concept was "The meanest, scrappiest streetfighting dog, the meanest looking thing on the road." When he was describing that to Autoblog last weekend, at dinner, he actually growled.

Follow the jump for the full story, and check out our new gallery of 52 high-res images, a few of which you're not going to find anywhere else.

Detroit Auto Show: Live pics of the Camaro Convertible

Earlier this evening at the GM Style event held in a big tent next to their Renaissance Center headquarters, the automaker publicly unveiled the new Camaro Convertible concept. It's basically a metallic orange open top version of the coupe they showed last year. We posted a mega-gallery of official shots a few days ago, and more details will be coming tomorrow from the show. Until then you can enjoy the new gallery of live shots.

Camaro Convertible preview... exactly what you'd expect

Camaro Convertible ConceptEarly next month, when GM opens up their stand at the Detroit Auto Show, expect to see a concept version of the new Camaro Convertible front and center. While the Camaro's debut at last year's show was a surprise, there are leaks aplenty surrounding the 'vert.

So, while it wont exactly be a shocker when it appears, it'll still have our tongues wagging. The Car Connection, who has the story, mentions that when the Coupe finally bows, we can expect to see 6- and 8-cylinder (obviously) versions. We've heard juicy rumors from inside sources about a potential horsepower figure beginning with "5" for the top-of-the-line Z28/SS/whatever-they'll-name-it. This would make complete sense since the Shelby GT500 dishes out as much, and the Camaro will need to be able to run with (or past) the pony to keep the base happy.

In the meantime, we're counting down the days to January 7, when we'll (hopefully) get to see the purported convertible in person.
